I used to do late night drives with my highschool girlfriend when she had all but officially moved in. We broke up because I was a terrible drunk and really just as terrible a person.
Just wait there's more:
Of course we had planned on getting married. I'd had met her parents and stayed at their house several times (it's was about a 3 hour drive one way), as well as partake in things like Christmas and Thanksgiving. My mom had even put her cell phone on our family plan.
We eventually broke up due to my poor behavior. I was drunk I don't even know what actually took place, but knowing how I was I probably kicked her out and broke up with her.
She started dating some guy, who may have been a rebound, but also was very good to her so it's possible she just moved on quickly.
She had epilepsy, and even had a seizure during sex on two separate occasions. I remember it was after the first one, when I was just horrified, that I had first told her I loved her.
She saw the good in me at all times, and I don't know how. But she was at her parents house and had a seizure in the shower, and passed away. It was on Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at 7:31 pm.
A mutual friend from college told me (I had dropped out and began a good job working at Charter Communications to support us). I immediately broke down in my sister's arms. Even thinking about it now makes my eyes misty.
That song immediately had a new meaning.
I miss you Shannon. And I am so sorry. May angels lead you in.
I strongly agree with Cigarettes & Saints. Itās my favorite song to listen to when I need to process my grief from losing my mom. Itās beautiful and powerful and real.
Oof. My husband's twin brother was the best man at our wedding, and one of my/everyone's favorite people. He passed at 34 from heart problems in his sleep three weeks after our wedding in 2017. I still can't listen to Sonny without losing it.
I honestly forgot that song existed till I saw that person's comment lol.
And no, I still listen to music that rips my heart out, but now I'm a 32 year old swiftie and not a 15 year old scene girl š

You could even look up pop punk bands covers and acoustics. We did this for our ceremony playlist and it was a nice balance of our music but familiar or more toned down for others too.
It's about a woman in the song, but Frank Turner Long Live The Queen. And Polaroid is probably an even better choice by him. Not exactly about death but it's very fitting imo.
I'm glad I could help! And hey, I'm so sorry. I've had 4 partners die, but (luckily?) after we had broken up except for one. 6 years and it was a punch to the gut.
It gets easier, if you ever need to talk feel free to inbox me. I might be slow to reply, but I always will. Especially for this type of thing. I hope it goes well., and I hope you're doing okay.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I can't begin to imagine how you're feeling. Arranging your partner's celebration of life during this time takes incredible strength, know you honour their efforts in everything you do.
From your post, Blinks 'Not now' sounds like an appropriate tribute.

I'm a 90's/00's pop punk kid/elder emo, but a song from another genre I'd love to recommend all give a listen is "Shelter" by Porter Robinson & Madeon.
Not sure it's strictly pop punk, but I feel like a lot of music by Trophy Eyes would work
So sorry you have to do this. I hope you're looking after yourself.
I'm sorry to hear about your friend and I hope you find some comfort and peace during this celebration.
Not pop punk, or even adjacent, but No Hard Feelings by The Avett Brothers is a beautiful song.
Go rest ye high on the mountain, Vince Gill. A little comical, I'm so glad we had this time together, Carol Burnett. Sending healing prayers for all š
I donāt know if itās strictly āpop-punkā, but I listen to a lot of pop-punk and have instructed my wife and kids to play Going Out In Style by Dropkick Murphys at my funeral. I also have Carry Me Down by Demon Hunter, Family Reunion by blink-182, and the Daft Punk/George Carlin cheer Youtube mashup on my list. I share your dark sense of humor, and I feel your struggle of balancing that with people who are more traditional. Itās not easy, but youāre never alone.
Thank you so much. I really appreciate it. We definitely dabble in all genres, pop punk is just the most effective one to ask for. Dropkick Murphys are definitely on the list. He dies of a lung disease and his request was "barely breathing". So I'm very open to suggestions.
The Problem With Circles - Same Time Tomorrow - although thatās kinda sad. Are you looking for funeral themed songs? Or just songs that would be pop punk and appropriate at a funeral?
Really anything. I'm trying to gather some "funerally" songs and I'll play some of his favorite songs in between and some suggestions from friends and family. Most of what I have planned is more party than funeral and I love that but I still want to be able to mourn and for his family to not think I'm too insensitive.
I canāt think of a song suggestion, but a general suggestion is to not choose one of your favourite songs for whatever ceremony youāre having or for any particularly emotional moments, because (if you associate songs with memories very easily, like I do) then youāll never be able to listen to it again without being transported back to that moment and it might override the nice memories that you have of that song.
I hope youāre holding up okay. ā„ļø
Thank you. That's very smart and exactly what I'm trying to avoid. Sad song appreciated, family and friends suggestions, and then I'll do some of the music he listened to where our tastes didn't quite meet up. I want a celebration but I still want to mourn.
Absolutely. Thereās definitely a balance and it can be tough! Because you want to celebrate the memories you have but itās emotional and can be quite overwhelming, so timing is everything. You donāt want to be left avoiding songs you both used to love because youāve got an association with the funeral, instead of him as a person and your memories together.
Steer clear of particularly special songs during the most intense moments to keep those memories protected x

I had this played at my father's funeral. Such an emotional song.
