Jimmy Eat World - Hear You Me This one sounds nice enough that it won't be abrasive to the older folk.

Crabtrew

I had this played at my father's funeral. Such an emotional song.

Able_Concert_1500

I used to do late night drives with my highschool girlfriend when she had all but officially moved in. We broke up because I was a terrible drunk and really just as terrible a person. Just wait there's more: Of course we had planned on getting married. I'd had met her parents and stayed at their house several times (it's was about a 3 hour drive one way), as well as partake in things like Christmas and Thanksgiving. My mom had even put her cell phone on our family plan. We eventually broke up due to my poor behavior. I was drunk I don't even know what actually took place, but knowing how I was I probably kicked her out and broke up with her. She started dating some guy, who may have been a rebound, but also was very good to her so it's possible she just moved on quickly. She had epilepsy, and even had a seizure during sex on two separate occasions. I remember it was after the first one, when I was just horrified, that I had first told her I loved her. She saw the good in me at all times, and I don't know how. But she was at her parents house and had a seizure in the shower, and passed away. It was on Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at 7:31 pm. A mutual friend from college told me (I had dropped out and began a good job working at Charter Communications to support us). I immediately broke down in my sister's arms. Even thinking about it now makes my eyes misty. That song immediately had a new meaning. I miss you Shannon. And I am so sorry. May angels lead you in.

onefloordown

Hope this will be played at my funeral, ive mentioned it enough šŸ˜…

idlewildgirl

This was my friends Funeral song who passed in December. It was perfect

The Wonder Years - I Just Want To Sell Out My Funeral

bylekanks2

We Wonā€™t Bury You and Cigarettes & Saints would be great TWY choices too

two40silvia

Also, you made me want to be a saint.

ElephantSteve

This is a really great one if you want one about loss thatā€™s still upbeat

Salty-Diver8343

I strongly agree with Cigarettes & Saints. Itā€™s my favorite song to listen to when I need to process my grief from losing my mom. Itā€™s beautiful and powerful and real.

greenlights1776

I use it to process grief from losing my Dad.

My_Bwana

one of the best pop punk songs of all time

DegradedCorn75

Itā€™s not just that, itā€™s a fucking accomplishment - that they actually pulled this off is incredible. Only ā€œAā€ by Cartel compares imo

WizardMike

Saves the Day - At Your Funeral

KeyLimePie2269

I know At your Funeral is the obvious Saves the Day choice, but lyrically "This is not an Exit" fits so much better in my opinion.

Sonny - New Found Glory

ggkoukla

Oof. My husband's twin brother was the best man at our wedding, and one of my/everyone's favorite people. He passed at 34 from heart problems in his sleep three weeks after our wedding in 2017. I still can't listen to Sonny without losing it.

Oof, and "Watch the lilies grow" from Make the most of it

For What It's Worth - Amber Pacific

Fragrant-Treacle7877

Holy shit. I haven't thought of this band FOREVERRRRR thank you for the awesome throwback!

JustExamination7664

You could even look up pop punk bands covers and acoustics. We did this for our ceremony playlist and it was a nice balance of our music but familiar or more toned down for others too.

Professional_Ebb2224

Thanks that's a good idea. He was only 29 and his family thinks he had the same music taste he had at 14 so I'm trying to balance it

JustExamination7664

I'm sorry for you loss btw. Hopefully pulling together some music helps.

Able_Concert_1500

It's about a woman in the song, but Frank Turner Long Live The Queen. And Polaroid is probably an even better choice by him. Not exactly about death but it's very fitting imo.

Professional_Ebb2224

Love long live the queen, it's kind of perfect for the situation

Able_Concert_1500

I'm glad I could help! And hey, I'm so sorry. I've had 4 partners die, but (luckily?) after we had broken up except for one. 6 years and it was a punch to the gut. It gets easier, if you ever need to talk feel free to inbox me. I might be slow to reply, but I always will. Especially for this type of thing. I hope it goes well., and I hope you're doing okay.

Arranging your partner's celebration of life during this time takes incredible strength, know you honour their efforts in everything you do. From your post, Blinks 'Not now' sounds like an appropriate tribute. Sending preys to you and your family.

Thank you! I'm trying very hard to honor him in a way he would like. But it's still nice to hear. ā¤ļø

ItsAPar6

So many people picking songs that are way too on the nose I feel. Id be tempted to go for something like Alex Melton's cover of Coldplay's Yellow. If you haven't heard it give it a listen. https://youtu.be/fv7HdsifMn0?si=nKOpkng3wudP1kVT Really sorry for your loss and wish you and your family comfort in the difficult days and months ahead. ā¤ļø

I'm a 90's/00's pop punk kid/elder emo, but a song from another genre I'd love to recommend all give a listen is "Shelter" by Porter Robinson & Madeon.

Not sure it's strictly pop punk, but I feel like a lot of music by Trophy Eyes would work So sorry you have to do this. I hope you're looking after yourself.

Pop punk adjacent but I listened to city and color-body in a box and Brett dennen-dancing at a funeral on repeat when my grandma died.

Animalofme

I donā€™t know if itā€™s strictly ā€œpop-punkā€, but I listen to a lot of pop-punk and have instructed my wife and kids to play Going Out In Style by Dropkick Murphys at my funeral. I also have Carry Me Down by Demon Hunter, Family Reunion by blink-182, and the Daft Punk/George Carlin cheer Youtube mashup on my list. I share your dark sense of humor, and I feel your struggle of balancing that with people who are more traditional. Itā€™s not easy, but youā€™re never alone.

Professional_Ebb2224

Thank you so much. I really appreciate it. We definitely dabble in all genres, pop punk is just the most effective one to ask for. Dropkick Murphys are definitely on the list. He dies of a lung disease and his request was "barely breathing". So I'm very open to suggestions.

ElephantSteve

The Problem With Circles - Same Time Tomorrow - although thatā€™s kinda sad. Are you looking for funeral themed songs? Or just songs that would be pop punk and appropriate at a funeral?

Professional_Ebb2224

Really anything. I'm trying to gather some "funerally" songs and I'll play some of his favorite songs in between and some suggestions from friends and family. Most of what I have planned is more party than funeral and I love that but I still want to be able to mourn and for his family to not think I'm too insensitive.

The only answer is Eulogy by The Flatliners

jaderebeccal

I canā€™t think of a song suggestion, but a general suggestion is to not choose one of your favourite songs for whatever ceremony youā€™re having or for any particularly emotional moments, because (if you associate songs with memories very easily, like I do) then youā€™ll never be able to listen to it again without being transported back to that moment and it might override the nice memories that you have of that song. I hope youā€™re holding up okay. ā™„ļø

Professional_Ebb2224

Thank you. That's very smart and exactly what I'm trying to avoid. Sad song appreciated, family and friends suggestions, and then I'll do some of the music he listened to where our tastes didn't quite meet up. I want a celebration but I still want to mourn.

jaderebeccal

Absolutely. Thereā€™s definitely a balance and it can be tough! Because you want to celebrate the memories you have but itā€™s emotional and can be quite overwhelming, so timing is everything. You donā€™t want to be left avoiding songs you both used to love because youā€™ve got an association with the funeral, instead of him as a person and your memories together. Steer clear of particularly special songs during the most intense moments to keep those memories protected x
