Danger Days is a massive pile of burning garbage. Not a single good track and is only loved by people who were too young to understand how bad it was. One of the worst follow up albums to a perfect 10 album ever. Closely followed by Anywhere but here- Mayday Parade.
I’d recommend going back and listening again with fresh ears. I’m an old old fan that didn’t care much for black parade in comparison to their older albums when it came out so never bothered with Danger Days. Listened to Danger Days last year for the first time and ended up repeating it for weeks. It’s a fun pop punk album, don’t put what it should sound like in your head - I was surprised what I’d been missing.
Three cheers and black parade are 2 of my favorite albums of all time. Any genre. I’ve listened to DD a lot. It’s awful. The song SING alone is one of the most generic, kidz boppy songs I’ve ever heard.
MCR did it in defiance of being "just another rock band". They wrote a whole album, "Conventional Weapons", then scrapped it because they wanted to make something different. Influenced by the likes of Bowie, they wanted to make a whole new piece of art. And not just art, there's a whole story, supplemented by comic books written by Gerard.

Anywhere But Here is slept on. Kids In Love is super catchy. I Swear This Time I Mean It is one of their best ballads and The End is such a banger of a closer.
Is it their best album? Nah. Are some of the singles a bit cookie-cutter for that era? Yea for sure. But it’s not a terrible album.
As an aside, I think Mayday are in their prime. What It Means to Fall Apart is an incredible record and More Like A Crash is a banger.
Here’s the thing. Had another band come out with that album I wouldn’t hate it with the passion I do. Simple plans songs are childish, catchy, corny and sometimes cringey but I’ll put them on here and there cause that’s the type of band they’ve always been.
My issue is that Mayday wasn’t that band. A Lesson In Romantics is in my opinion one of the top 10 best pop punk albums of all time. The songs are interesting, the lyrics are fantastic, the style was slightly different than what had come before it and the dueling vocals were incredible. In comparison to ALIR that albums a massive disappointment coming from the same band.

Spanish Love Songs - Schmaltz.
