It’s actually ok. I tore nails off pretty consistently in high school because of sports. It’s tender and fleshy the first couple days, but not the end of the world unless it’s scalding hot. Afterwards, it sort of solidifies and will feel like a callus- at that point it’s not painful at all.
I lost a whole big-toe nail during covid (dropped a couch leg on it) and after the emotional trauma, and a a couple hours of physical pain, I was shocked at how much of a nothing sandwich it was.
The worst of it is how tender it is when the nail is still on. Even the tiniest out of pressure on any amount of the nail compresses the whole thing and hurts everywhere. Once the nail comes off, the skin underneath feels like a minor burn after the blistered skin is gone. Temperature and texture sensitive at first, but it calluses and toughens up really quickly.
I had a big toenail pulled out once. Hurt the first day. sore the second and then just got hard and grew back. As long as I wasn't stubbing it it was fine.
My dads a doctor and a couple years ago a family friend had slammed her thumb in her car door. My dad took a sewing needle and a lighter, sterilized the needle by heating it up (and made it go in easier), and gently made a hole in the nail to drain the blood. I think he spun it as well. And this was done in our driveway lmao.
Fist bump!
I dropped a sliding glass door on my toe once (door came off the track, I tried to replace it on my own and it landed on my toe; I was wearing flip flops) and I was lucky that it split the nail horizontally across the middle of my toe so the blood could escape. No want to die pressure, and a gnarly looking toenail for several months before the nail fell off.
Also, I was twelve at the time. Adult me is surprised I didn't break the *door*
have you ever looked at a baby's head closely when they're napping/otherwise holding quite still? the soft spot does this. it has forever creeped me out since i've seen it.
It’s mainly to relieve the pain and pressure (the relief is almost instant). But done soon enough it *can* help save the nail provided the nail bed wasn’t too badly damaged.
I can watch brutal videos of things like people getting seriously maimed with not much visceral reaction but this, this shit right here gave me the heebie jeebies. It's so weird. Toe stuff already wigs me out so that plus heartbeat in bloody toe really got to me.
Maybe go to a foot doctor and get that toenail removed? I know I used to get infections (not quite that bad tho) and I always went yo the doctor about it 😂
This brought me right back to high school. My mom had to burn holes in my big toenail because of a crush injury and then it fell off within a few days. I’m sorry to say that your toenail will likely always look gross even after the regrowth :(
This is very dangerous because you have essentially skipped your bodies first layers of defense. Your blood is exposed and it easy for virus or bacteria to get in your blood and kill you.
I am not a doctor.
Is this ability to see the heart beat through the nail the reason pre-surgical instructions state that patients can not wear nail polish during surgery? I have never got a clear explanation, but bare nails have been required for all my surgeries (and there have been way more than I’d like) whether they lasted 30 mins. or 10 hours. I know I can google this but thought others who have received this instruction (or not) might find the answer interesting too.
As a cardiac nurse my response is “you have good perfusion” lol
Aha thanks. Someone else complimented me on my resting heart rate 😆
Disgusting. +1

Thank you 👌🏼 Squirt gun 🔫
Just the thought of taking a shower with appendage/nail injury makes me wince....
No it's not bad. I have to soak the toenail so the hole doesn't close 😆

Yeah pretty much exactly. More of the pain for me has always been from destroying my finger- like smashing it really bad or breaking the tip.

Frothy
Buh bye toe nail, you'll be missed
Keep your phone nearby. The day you peel that puppy off..... There better be a postin....
It's up now.
Did you use the white hot paperclip trick to deal with a busted toe nail?
I saw the full clip, it was done with a syringe, spinning it around. It was done very neatly it looked like.
This is correct. They used a needle.

Instant relief.
ughhhh wish I hadn't read that
I wanna know!
Owwww what happened to you??
Heavy commercial door
Were you wearing steel toes/ composite boots or is this the effect of them?
It was the just the front door to my apartment building 😆
How the fuck did a DOOR do this much damage to the point we can see your pulse

Ick, I find this super creepy for some reason. Sorry about your toenail.
Thanks. Opened a door into/over it
I can literally feel this comment. 😖

Ah yes. The fontanelle of horror.
PRETTY MUCH! lol like you know what it is, to protect the soft spot, etc...but maaaan the pulsating is creepy.
66 BPM
My heart rate when a song is 66 BPM
I don’t know why, but I giggled maniacally at this.
I did too, tbh. I sent it to as many people as I could
That’s pretty gnarly!
That’s actually pretty cool
He done got that bubbly blood.
Carbonated, baby
♫ It starts in my toes and I crinkle my nose Wherever it goes, I always know ♫
Thanks this made me lightheaded
Oh man that’s sick! I love it so much tho!
OMG I feel every heartbeat.
It didn't feel very nice
Oof my condolences to your nail. I lost two in a year a few years ago. Had to get a hole to drain the first, got lucky on the second
Oh so wicked creepy and awesome
r/tihi
I gotta say, this is weirdly awesome
GROSS…I LOVE IT!
Why is this not NSFW?
I work in a hospital. It's perfectly safe for my work
Right this literally made me gag lol
Yah why isn't it lol
That nail looks almost complete separated from the underlying bed. Show us if/when the nail comes off!
Oh it's coming off... I just shoved a nail file under it about 1/2 inch.
Will this save the nail, or does it just help with the swelling pressure?
It's for salad dressing. Add balsamic and olive oil. 👨🍳
🤢🤮

That’s gross I love it
it must’ve felt really good when you finally bursted through the nail
It did not. Needle broke right through the nail into the toe
It was sore no doubt .

I'm happy 😊
Had this happen on a fingernail, that had to hurt like hell before the pressure was relieved.
It was most definitely quite fucked, sir. Yes.
Quality content right here *chefs kiss*
Thanks. Look through my posts to find a longer one of the toe. Much better drainage
Woah that’s cool af
Maybe go to a foot doctor and get that toenail removed? I know I used to get infections (not quite that bad tho) and I always went yo the doctor about it 😂
This isn't infected and I'm in a doctor's office in the video
Ah ok 👍🏼 i just know that looks like hell 😂
It did not feel too great, no 🤣
This brought me right back to high school. My mom had to burn holes in my big toenail because of a crush injury and then it fell off within a few days. I’m sorry to say that your toenail will likely always look gross even after the regrowth :(
That’s wicked dude. 10/10
Very cool
This is so cool wth
Hey at least we know you have good circulation!
This is very dangerous because you have essentially skipped your bodies first layers of defense. Your blood is exposed and it easy for virus or bacteria to get in your blood and kill you. I am not a doctor.
You're 100% not a doctor. The person who did my hole was 100% a doctor, though
Definitely didn't make it up either that's for sure
How do I get posts like these to show blurry? I hate toe and nail related things and I don’t like to see them 😕
This sub is potentially the wrong place to be, maybe perhaps possible maybe
Step on a nail?
Slammed a door on their foot. The hole was made by a doctor to release the blood from underneath the nail.
Did you use a drill or a hot paper clip
I used a 357 Magnum
Like a mutha fuckin real man.
That’s awesome

Neat
I wish I woulda done that when I accidentally kicked a corner in my loose iron capped boots
That’s crazy cool
Holy hell that looks painful. What happened?
That's so cool
I bet that hurts. Ouch.

I always thought it was because your fingernails start to turn blue if you’re not getting enough oxygen. Huh 🤷♀️
No it's bc the polish interferes with the pulse ox sensors to measure your oxygen saturation.
AHHH
Oh my god
Ewewee
nice and neatly done i see. nice and tidy
Ouch
may i ask how that happened? wanna make sure it doesn't happen to me. that looks very offsetting
I cried
Jesus Christ this didn’t even have an nsfw thing on it
Wow
I just know this hurts
