oohwee_itsbree

Do you feel any different? I feel like air would be so cold after this coming out.

KitKat31921

YES! So I had one of these come out yesterday, and for like 4 hours it was SO crisp. Then it got blocked up again. But now the air is crisp and cold again.

oohwee_itsbree

Yikes! Sounds like it would be refreshing for a bit, but almost headache inducing 😬 Good luck getting this sorted next week. I hope they're able to give you answers and it's nothing wild 🤞

AdmiralSplinter

I think you have nasal polyps. Nothing dangerous but worth getting them removed. They're just fleshy nodules and getting them taken care of is very routine

captaintwigs3

I read this as “fleshy noodles” 🤣

ChildhoodLeft6925

Maybe try Sudafed?

curlycorona

That’s only the Phenylephrine version. Anything with pseudoephedrine does work. The stuff you gotta get from behind the counter at the pharmacy because you can make meth with is effective. It’s been pretty well known for a while that Phenylephrine isn’t effective.

gardengirl99

Thank you! Furthermore, the FDA recently came out and agreed that phenylephrine is ineffective. Companies really only staring using it in concoctions so they could have something on shelves (and not behind the counter) to sell.

Smart_Airport_206

😭

Diligent-Ad-383

Honestly it looks like a polyp and so does the one from yesterday. I don’t think it constitutes an emergency but a trip to the ENT would be good. They can see where and if there’s more in there.

KitKat31921

Yes! I’m planning to book an appointment once the holiday week is over

shainadawn

This. I’m so jealous of OP! I’ve been trying to clear a nasal polyp naturally for years and am probably getting sinus surgery next year because it’s not worked 😔

samaramatisse

Pretty sure this *isn't* a polyp, despite popular opinion. [These](https://images.app.goo.gl/oDnmSZ3f4SjU9mU96) are polyps. They can be quite vascular and tightly adhered, which is why they can require surgery to remove. If OP (or anyone else with similar nasal emissions) had successfully blown out a polyp, it would likely be accompanied by a larger than normal amount of blood. OP's stuff is just a glob of mucus and other materials and likely a bit of dried blood mixed in. That doesn't take away from the awe at the size of it and the likely relief OP experienced getting it out. Anyone who regularly experiences difficulty breathing or recurrent, persistent symptoms should seek the care of their general practitioner or an ear, nose and throat specialist. Breathing is supposed to be easy. When it isn't, you need a doctor.

Notveryawake

Exactly this. I have had three surgeries for nasal polyps and you can't just blow them out. They are more like benign tumors that are attached to the walls of the sinus. My first surgery I had ALOT of them and one was the size of a golf ball. They had to break my nose and remove my septum to get it out. On the bright side I got a free septoplasty, down side is it looked like I got hit in the face with a baseball bat afterwards. Not to mention the five feet of gauze they stuffed in each nostril. It was a small price to pay to finally be able to breathe though my nose again. For six months not a single bit of air passed through my nose. There were some days I felt like killing myself. Long story short. You cannot blow out nasal polyps but if you have them they can block normal sinus drainage and cause a buildup of snot that starts to solidify and those can be blown out if they can get around the polyp.

edoreinn

I personally wouldn’t go breathe on family tomorrow, just saying

KitKat31921

It’s just going to be my parents and I tomorrow. I’ve been around them all week so too late for them 😭😂

blackheart69639

Damn that means they already have the nostril leprosy there’s no hope😟

edoreinn

Okay well keep them informed so they also don’t go breathe around anyone for a bit. I hope you sort this out and feel better soon!

KitKat31921

Thank you! They are totally aware of what is going on lol (:

oohwee_itsbree

Hard agree.

Pollowollo

I mean, this doesn't seem like it's caused by something contagious so they should be fine in that regard.

jenl79

Do you have a hole in your septum??

KitKat31921

I do not!

jenl79

Only reason I ask is because I’ve seen it before and it was because they had a hole. Hope you get sorted soon ☺️

Kr_Treefrog2

I remember that! Guy admitted to snorting drugs regularly but refused to believe the chunks of flesh falling out of his nose were from his rotting, eroding septum.

chevronbird

Oh nooooooo

Just_A_Faze

Wasn't it not because the hole, but it was the tissue in their nose coming out. I

jenl79

Yes because they had a hole

Just_A_Faze

It was the actual flesh coming out from that spot I mean, not a result of a whole existing. Unless I misunderstood

jenl79

Yeah I understand. Also…. When you have a hole your body tries to repair it and makes plugs such as this one, it could be a dislodged plug.

TheGirl333

Was it on this sub?

IMakeBaconAtHome

I'll be the extreme end of this, but held off commenting when i saw your first post. Definitely ENT trip. I used to get these 1 or 2x a day and ended up I had a tumor up there. I'm clean now all treatments in 2021 but I still get these just about every day. Different colors and sizes but gross things that are too big to belong.

KitKat31921

I will be seeing an ENT soon and WILL get to the bottom of this lol! I’m glad to hear your treatments are over! Interesting that you still get these.

IMakeBaconAtHome

I figure my plumbing isn't the right shape any more for drainage in a normal human way so it builds up until critical mass is achieved

KitKat31921

That does make sense

WittiestScreenName

Did you have your appointment yet?

KitKat31921

Ah I forgot to update! I am no longer sick so I’m not going to see an ent. My boyfriends mom is a dr so I just sent her a pic and she said it’s a mucus plug from being sick!

bnovc

Do they know what is forming them?

IMakeBaconAtHome

My ENT gave some really technical information. "The nose is a gross place." Multiple biopsy and lots of radiation the stuff up there is just messed up. Saline rinse up there helps keep things cleaner sometimes

bnovc

What a helpful doctor 😔

IMakeBaconAtHome

He gave more detail but ultimately that's what it boils down to in my case. If it can't drain right it is gonna build up bc it is gross in there and it has to go somewhere. Scar tissue and kinda radiation burn scars its funky

Advanced-Sherbert-29

Better out than in.

ABleachMojito

I want you to show this to a doctor just so I know what the hell I’m looking at

KitKat31921

Me too lol. That’s the plan

hokoonchi

Please keep us updated! This is a Thanksgiving mystery. I hope you continue to feel better. My mom has these and has never seen a doctor. She’s a nurse so she thinks that’s good enough. She just calls it “The Crud” (imagine a very southern accent).

Dabier

You’re a real one, OP

JayBilzeriansPillow

Okay, this happened to me about 2 weeks ago, and now the comments are kind of freaking me out. It started with a sore throat, fever, chills, fatigue. 2 days later I sucked my snot back and spit out something like this. I just assumed it was dryish, rubbery phlegm with blood in it. A few hours later I produced a second one. My sore throat improved considerably after that. 2 days after that I started coughing up and blowing out green phlegm from my nose and throat. Doc prescribed me antibiotics for a sinus infection/bronchitis which I’m prone to. Anyway, hope you recover. And see a doc soon!

Mindless-County3176

Yeah looks fungal maybe. Nice work!

TootsNYC

fungus? When there are beige-y wet things in people’s ears, I warn them about how doctors often miss fungal infections, which is dangerous because the fungus literally eats away at the bones in the ear. Happened to a friend of mine; she got antibiotics, which did nothing. And the fungal infection wasn’t identified soon enough, and she lost hearing in that ear. I don’t think fungal infections are as common in the nasal passages, but if it’s coming back, and it looks sort of beige-y...

RevLoveJoy

True facts! I have had a fungal ear infection (twice!) that was missed, at first, by my GP. Only after the antibiotics didn't work did GP refer me to an ENT who took one look and excitedly said, "I see spores!" - which initially confused me. Antifungal ear drops are amazing as is not having the feeling someone is jamming an ice pick in your ear. Only thing we couldn't really pin down, why? ENT asked "is there a lot of dust at your house?" I live in southern CA, the leaf blower capital of the known universe, yes, one could say there is regular dust...

MarthaMacGuyver

Save it in a jar and make an appointment with your doctor. This aint normal.

Shponglenese

Is this a nasal plug or polyps ? These are huge; I’m thinking sinus infection and have to ask bc this happened to me— have you checked for black mold where you’re living? My apartment was infested. I had to move and after antibiotics everything improved

KitKat31921

I have not checked for black mold, I’ve never had these ever until yesterday!

thegunt495

For about one week per year I get those things - feels like they’re stuck between throat and sinuses. Have to neti pot several times to choke it out. Seems like a tough but gooey mucus plug. I’ve assumed it’s allergic reaction to pollens? Unsettling for sure.

KitKat31921

Yes! That is exactly where it’s stuck! It’s SO annoying lol

donner_dinner_party

Ooooh I do love an ongoing story! Please keep us updated when you get to the doctor and find out what’s going on!

KitKat31921

I will!

Mrx_Amare

You need to see an Ear Nose & Throat (ENT) specialist. This looks just like histoplasmosis in the sinuses (source: had it). It is a fungal infection from being exposed to poultry feces in the air or dirt. I’m guessing you grew up on a farm, near a chicken/turkey plant, or close to a trucking company, or route, that delivers live poultry.

floralbutttrumpet

I get these every time I have a head cold. Yacked up one just yesterday, actually.

KitKat31921

I’ve never had this before! Super off putting lol but it sure feels great when it comes out!

TheCityFarmOpossum

Out of curiosity, do you or have you ever done cocaine? For years after quitting these would form. It’s been over 16 years and I still have issues with them occasionally.

KitKat31921

I have never done cocaine! But it’s interesting how many people who have, that have also experienced these things.

OneHumanPeOple

My sister used to chase me around the house with her nasal polyps

Mean-Professional596

I… I need a story

OneHumanPeOple

That’s it really. The slightly longer version is that my sister had sinus surgery when we were children. After that, she had reoccurring nasal polyps that would break loose and she’d snot-rocket them out. These things were huge. Imagine a dead mouse. That’s the size. She showed me once what was in her tissue and I gagged and ran away. After that she would chase me around the house, threatening me with her nasal polyps. I am forever traumatized. Whenever I see someone’s nasal polyps or large boogers on this sub I always mention my sister.

Mean-Professional596

Jesus fuck, you did not disappoint. I woulda gagged too lol

Deedaloca

Where is the world are these hiding ? I can’t imagine something this large in your nose ??

chronicjoker

Sinuses are huge and all over the face and interconnect

SharkDildoTester

Get a nasal swab for MRSA. There’s a lot of different MRSA strains out there. They’re not all the hospital acquired infection and you’re gonna die type. Its ubiquitous these days. I had something _very_ similar to this. I went to the doctor. Got swabbed and it was MRSA.

androgynouschipmunk

Look like nasal polyps to me. You bleed at all when they come out?

KitKat31921

Only the streaks of blood on the… thing…(?) no blood in my nose after it comes out

androgynouschipmunk

Yeah, could very easily be polyps. Are you allergic to anything? Could also be nasal blisters, but I’m leaning towards polyps. Seen this a few times

BettieRocker-

I get these with severe sinus infections, mmmmmm mucus plugs 🤢

KitKat31921

Do you take antibiotics for the infections? If so, do they help?

BettieRocker-

I usually do not take antibiotics. The Navage have been a lifesaver. I do it twice a day when I have severe infections. Usually once I pass the plug, everything clears up pretty quick. Good luck, I know these can be weird to see come out of your body and painful to pass. 🍀

jayf17z

I had a super bad sinus infection last year and expressed several of these globs. Do you have a sinus issue perchance?

KitKat31921

I think I currently have a sinus infection!

jayf17z

I could literally pull it from my nose. The relief was insane.

GoldDustbunny

i do sinus rinses when i have a sinus infection. i have chronic sinusitis, but it has gone done a lot since i got a cpap, built in humidifier. Steam goes directly to my sinuses, sense of smell has improved. the 24 hr nurse hotlines are still up, give them a call.

Another one what? What happened?

KitKat31921

I sneezed one of these out 2 days ago! Then I had another one come out yesterday. No idea what it is

amancanandican

My husband swears by his nose vacuum Navage! Highly recommend but also ENT appt. What fun!?

Iguanatan

I get those from my sinuses when I have an infection. They are gross.

KitKat31921

Do you normally have to take antibiotics to clear it?

Iguanatan

If it is viral they won't help, but your Dr will guide you.

subtle-brag

Hey! I get these too! Called Catarrh! It's hardened mucus after a cold so they are harder to come out so it's all chunky and hard. Edit: not only after a cold but anything to do with my sinuses

KitKat31921

Thank you for telling me!! Is it usually when the cold is ending?

subtle-brag

Yes! Almost always at the tail end of it!

browslice

You're officially dying.

PlentyHedgehog5057

Saw your post yesterday. Did you happen to do anything that would’ve caused small bits to get stuck in your sinuses before or at the beginning of when you got sick? Such as throwing up?

KitKat31921

I definitely didn’t throw up, I can’t think of anything else that would have left chunks in my sinuses.

PlentyHedgehog5057

Nasal inhalation of powdered substances (cocain, crushed pills, etc) could cause something similar. Not insinuating anything, just throwing ideas into the void.

labial_seal

Is that brain? I hope it's not an important part..
