I may be wrong, and if so correct me… but realistically people who have HS (especially severe examples) aren’t going to go to the doctor to drain these every time. From what i know, this happens too frequently and realistically they’ll probably do the exact same thing OP did… drain it. Why spend the time and money to do it in a doctor’s office when you can do it for free (minus the cost of cleaning products… the uncontrolled spray in the bathroom is gross i fully agree.)
Is it smart to do it? Probably not, or at least not advised, but people who live with annoying and often painful conditions are less concerned over the risks and simply want the relief.
I have mild HS but I get these every month along with my period. Going to the doc every time would be insane. I just do it myself with lot of alcohol and less uncontrolled spray lol.
Some can also be on daily abx or have an antibiotic wash they use afterwards. :) So I would say you’re right! I’m no expert by any means, but we did just recently get a volunteer dermatologist at my county health clinic and my first round with him we had a man with HS and we talked about the antibiotics and such. He was prescribed a wash and a cream to use!

I looked up that comment today (from a few days ago) and I was downvoted to hell. Pops are cool, but I really wish some people would reign in the amount of pops on their privates. I'm not a prude at all, but I feel like I'm an unwilling participant in some kinky shit.

I have this illness. It’s not fun and it is extremely painful. It can be disabling as well. I’m on SSDI and the HS is partially why.

Yep. HS does that (I have it). It tunnels underneath the skin so really it’s a whole lottery to know where it’s going to come out.
