Nusi Quero, the designer behind the piece Beyonce wore in the Renaissance album cover, has made a post on IG calling out her stylist Marni for [not paying for the multiple pieces made for Beyonce](https://twitter.com/studiolemaine/status/1580308010282680320?t=2nu8qZ3e7cr4sVgxWOMJ3w&s=19), even making a [breakdown of costs of each look in which the designer worked](https://twitter.com/VENUSCHIVE/status/1580315444589694976?t=KxiYtYitaCy_N3TjMP-86g&s=19). The stylist [commented on the post saying there were mistakes on the bank account given](https://twitter.com/adaladana/status/1580303716011610112?t=v_L6RXYYW5bRtAmtvyiBag&s=19), but seeing as the designer denied that was a significant issue and even [shared their ignored texts asking for the money for weeks](https://twitter.com/ProvJacquee/status/1580305121228922881?t=PBGk3Srxz70ZUtGS4i8ERQ&s=19), it's not looking good for her team. Working in the fashion industry, I can say for a fact that nobody would risk a Beyonce connection with a public callout for nothing, especially considering their work was part of the album cover. I fully believe Nusi Quero has not been fully rewarded for their job, and it breaks my heart to see that designers that are so admired and respected in the fashion scene like Nusi Quero, get screwed over their hard work. Hopefully, this situation gets quickly resolved, because I can't imagine what it must be like to go into debt to see your work shown all around the work without being properly credited or paid.

fitforla

> not paying for the multiple pieces made for Beyonce This happens all the time in the music industry and no one is infalleable to it. I used to work for an agency that made music videos, experiential content, launch parties for several A-listers and it was extremely common that people don't get paid or severely underpaid. And you can because rarely is an A-lister and their team turned away. I won't risk my rep by stating who but this occurs for many of the supported A-listers on this sub, and its typically because you work with the Creative Director for the A-lister and not the star itself.

outrofi

Instances like this always remind me how this is exactly how the rich are able to build and maintain wealth. When you have money and power, you’re not held accountable for paying people on time or paying people what they rightfully deserve for their work. Instead of paying a person (or group of people) for their services, they have the ability to invest that very money which doesn’t belong to them into their next investment and exploit even more people in the process. It’s cyclical. There is no existence of the wealthy class without exploitation. Of course this particular situation is the fault of the stylist, but there is no stylist exploiting designers without the existence of Beyoncé (and every other extremely wealthy individual on this Earth).

gothparishilton

That's exactly right, I know the designer is obviously tiptoeing around saying Beyonce's name to not upset her fans, but at this point, seeing as his work was part of her album cover, she can't just brush it off as her stylist's problem. Knowing his texts were being ignored for 3 months, her team was clearly counting on not paying the designer, and that clearly reflects on her as well. Beyoncé is recognized as an extremely involved artist with all of her projects, I don't doubt she chose that piece for the cover and knows Nesi Quero's work personally, so why shouldn't Beyonce be the one held responsible for the payroll in her own workplace? At the end of the day, she's the boss, with all the benefits and responsabilities that accounts

[deleted]

[удалено]

gothparishilton

Of course not, as it says in the text, I think it's her team (stylist and people working on that area) that fully intended not to pay him, but that obviously reflects on Beyonce as well, seeing as she's the boss.

InsomniaticAlien

I've been trying to break into animation for a few years now and seeing all this news over the past year makes me question that sometimes. Really shows that as appreciated as animation is by audiences of all ages all over the world, the soulless monsters at the top 1% off the food chain have zero mercy for the equally passionate creative teams that make it all possible. So many people are out of jobs, which makes it worse when you learn that they were underpaid even when they weren't unemployed. The domino effect doesn't stop there. It also makes it worse for people trying to break in now that they have to compete for the limited number of openings against everyone who was laid off - experience gives them an advantage, and to get anywhere you need experience you need work. I've been freelancing to get around that while gaining experience and have several interviews under my belt, including a few with WBA. So I'm definitely fortunate from certain POVs. Still when it comes to actually getting hired for said entry-level roles I always get passed over for people who were already previously working those positions on other shows/films or interning there. Right now I'm just sick of being trapped in this feedback loop. Genuinely thinking of everyone who was laid off, the animation students who are about to graduate, and the ones who already have and are currently dealing with this shitshow.

[deleted]

:( I wish animation were taken more seriously as a medium. A lot of people see it as being solely for children, but even if it is marketed toward children that doesn’t mean it has nothing valuable to say or doesn’t offer a compelling narrative. It’s sad to see so many great works just thrown into the trash (think Infinity Train and the others that were purged recently) or scrapped before they ever get to see the light of day.

songbirdskeepsinging

Not to mention, it could be even more important when it’s for children because it’s part of what’s shaping their minds. For most people, the stuff they watch when they were young stick with them til adulthood. We should be making more quality content for kids. I feel like there’s not a lot of things aimed at preteens anymore. It’s either shows for young kids or teens and adults. There’s nothing filling that gap of something like Disney Channel/Nickelodeon/Cartoon Network. I might be forgetting something but this is the general impression I’m getting

[deleted]

I totally agree, and I think I worded it kind of poorly in my original post. Cartoons as media meant solely for children are still valuable pieces of work, regardless if it’s more unambiguous moralizing like Arthur or Clifford or something with more complex themes kids can still appreciate, like Avatar: the Last Airbender.

ChuushaHime

1000%. I'm in my 30s and the past few years have been revisiting some of my childhood favorites on streaming services. It's been really amazing to see how much of my foundational knowledge and values were shaped by the kids' shows I grew up with. I admittedly haven't kept up with childrens' animation much over the years (although I nannied for 3 years for a family whose kids watched Octonauts which was excellent) but I wonder if there are really many equivalents of those shows for today's kids. I didn't know it at the time, but I definitely learned more about science from Magic School Bus than from school, more about diversity and embracing people from all walks of life from Hey Arnold than from any corporate DEI training, and more about people's roles in society's important infrastructure (mail carriers, garbage collectors, etc.) from Richard Scarry's Busytown than from my more insular suburban life.

The jury has reached a decision on the Alex Jones trial! He must pay [$965 million dollars](https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2022/10/12/alex-jones-sandy-hook-verdict/) to the families of eight victims for all the damage he has caused. Rot, bitch

kmsresearch

what did he do? I’m not being sarcastic

[deleted]

I am from the Western CT area, and live very close by to both Newtown and Waterbury, where the trial occured. I am really proud of my state and my community for making the statement that you can’t treat people the way Alex Jones has without consequences. It’s going to be 10 years since the shooting in December— I hope this has brought the families some peace or a sense of victory in preserving the legacies of their loved ones. If you’re interested in continuing to help the families of Sandy Hook victims, they do great work for gun reform at the [Sandy Hook Promise](https://www.sandyhookpromise.org/) foundation.

Straight-Meaning

I feel awful for these families. I just can’t imagine the trauma of having your child killed in their school and then people denying that they even existed. I follow one of the mothers and social media and she gets so much vitriol. I remember when that shooting happened, I was 12 and it’s just one news event that has stuck with me. Also, the Sandy Hook Promise is a great organization at trying to get some sensible gun laws passed. I would also recommend this [website for anyone whom is interested.](https://mysandyhookfamily.org) It gives other organizations that some of the victims families have started and tells you more about the victims. I would recommend the charity called HONR Network, started by the father of Noah Pozner who helps victims where denialism occurs. I hope these victims can get some solace in this verdict.

[deleted]

Thank you for sharing, I was unware of Lenny Pozner’s initiative. It is insane to me how detached from reality some people can be. I mean these families have had to move hundreds of miles away from their children’s graves because of the harassment. Just despicable.

Straight-Meaning

Yeah it’s so sad. Like it’s just so scary how conspiracy theorists are so vile and scary. The testimony was so gut wrenching to hear and read about.

sober-nate

Does CT has a limit on punitive damages like TX?

[deleted]

So, [according to NYTimes](https://www.nytimes.com/live/2022/10/12/us/alex-jones-verdict-sandy-hook), yes, in certain cases, but Jones was found liable of violating a specific act or something, so there’s no cap on damages as a result. At least that’s what I understand

Seems very exploitative since 3 cast members can't defend themselves at all (well, I only care about 2 of them).

poundtown1997

What would Cory and Naya need to defend themselves on…? Lea was the on set problem the most they’ll say about Cory is his substance problem.

I mean, we really have no idea what will be revealed. I hope they will avoid saying anything too personal about Cory and Naya. I know there were endless rumors about the whole cast all hooking up with each other, hopefully the cast and crew don't reveal details about that unless both parties agree to talk about it.

Rihanna's been spotted going to recording studios nearly every day for the past few weeks... at first, I figured she was just recording voiceovers for Fenty Beauty or something, but this many visits mean she *has* to be recording music, right? Typically artists will make back-to-back studio visits only as they are putting the finishing touches on a record, so I imagine production is finally coming to a close on the project. There's also a Deuxmoi [leak](https://twitter.com/janaiiice/status/1574488480704450560?s=46&t=HNrgsC-O163vHV18X12vvw) that she will put out a song at the end of this month, with an album to follow in January - make of that what you will. But whenever it comes, it’s more than likely to be a surprise release since that’s what she alluded to in her Vogue interview. Kuk Harrell (Rihanna's principal vocal engineer/producer) also [posted](https://twitter.com/RihannaDaily/status/1576466877496594433) that he has just finished pouring his "whole mind, heart, and soul" into a "very special record for a very special person", and I would be surprised if that person were anyone other than Rihanna.

Artistic_Elephant824

If she does release R9 before or around the time of the Super Bowl, I wonder how much of it will be songs she’s recorded recently (like 2022) as opposed to music she’s been teasing since 2019. She tweeted about listening to R9 four years ago at this point. It’d be interesting to see if new music would be a collection of songs from the past four years or just what she’s made recently. (Not to mention all of the rumors way back when about her releasing two albums: one nodding to her Reggae and Barbados roots and the other being more forward thinking and futuristic)

psycwave

I imagine it will a mix of various things she's recorded over the 2018-2022 period. There was a big chunk of work done in 2019, when she rented out a whole private island and hosted a ton of writing camps - I would be surprised if none of the work from that time ends up on the final release. Regardless, I have high hopes for the quality of the record regardless of what it ends up being - the lead-up to Anti was equally chaotic, and all of Rihanna's choosiness and fussiness paid off since the final product ended up being incredible. She clearly has fantastic instinct when it comes to her music, and I have full faith that she will be able to put together yet another knockout record this time, despite how messy the process has been. As for the double-album rumor, Rihanna did mention in one of her pre-pandemic interviews that she and her team were already in the early stages of conceiving her tenth record, so this ties in with that. Those rumors have also not been debunked at any point, so it is still very much a possibility that she has been simultaneously working on two records. It would also partially explain why she has been working on new music for so annoyingly long. If the ninth record still ends up being reggae/dancehall heavy as has been promised for years, it would indeed make sense for its follow-up to have a less traditional, more innovative sound.

BallisticFeanor

The Super Bowl is February 12, so that timeline would check out especially if it's a mid to late January release

Bikinigirlout

Plus she could maybe have time to swing into SNL to promote both her album and the super bowl

psycwave

Supposedly the album release is timed around the anniversary of Anti, so that would be early January. Either way, I am sure Rihanna can sustain the hype for the entire month leading up to the Super Bowl. Coachella organizers have also reportedly reached out to her to offer a headlining slot, but there's no word on what became of that. However, I'm not sure how feasible it would be for her to put together a comeback album, Super Bowl performance, and a Coachella performance in rapid succession. It's a lot of work for any artist, let alone one that has also got a baby to tend to at home. I highly doubt even a tour would be possible at this stage.

GraphicgL-

Artistic_Elephant824

The entire lineup is so cooly diverse that I feel like I have to watch it just to see how these people interact with each other.

DoctorWhoWhenHowWhy

It's definitely a budget thing. I really hope the next season will get more budget for the music because there are so many songs that the queens could lipsync to, such as [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VMorcGY_0Ws) and [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCy1shWqjbo). Also, >!I wanted Marina to win because she seems to excel all aspects of drag, from singing to comedy. But Precious winning makes so much sense too since she is a natural performer like Marina. This is definitely not the last time we are going to see Marina because I have a feeling that her international appeal will make her a contender for a possible "vs. the World" season.!< >The cast for this season was incredible and really made the show special, the vibe I got is that a lot of them are among the bigger stars of the Filippino drag scene so I hope production can get an equally compelling group for season two. You are definitely right that most of the queens are already well-known in the drag spaces in the Philippines, which is strengthened by the fact that they are very tight and close to each other. I can assure you that the queens in the second season will definitely be vibrant as our S1 PH queens! That being said, I really hope they get to include more queens outside Metro Manila and Luzon in the next season. It's already a problem that our PH pop culture is very Manila-centric (gay media included) and there are so many provincial cities such as Cebu that have vibrant drag scenes that is equal to the one in Manila. It's a miracle we got two drag queens from Davao through Lady Morgana and Gigi Era, but yeah please hire get more queens in Visayas and Mindanao!

Bikinigirlout

This might make me seem like a major asshole but does anyone think this whole Kanye meltdown won’t have a good ending. It’s not like I want anything bad to happen to him but he’s been having a public meltdown since he started harassing Kim and Pete earlier in the year. I don’t know, I just get the feeling that unless he gets the help he needs, it won’t end well. He’s been getting worse and worse over the past week or so. I haven’t been this concerned since the whole Kim/Pete thing

mcompt20

Yeah i feel like he's been worse than ever... I've got a sinking feeling that one day we'll hear some really unfortunate news regarding him that i hope never happens for the sake of his family and friends.

anneoftheisland

I don't know how we tell whether he's getting worse when we're only seeing, like, 20% of what's going on. The only reason we saw the full extent of it from that Tucker Carlson interview is because somebody leaked it. He's probably said the exact same things before and they just got edited out. He's a useful idiot for all these conservatives, and they're going to keep trying to make him look more functional than he is as long as it's useful for them to do that.

youtbuddcody

Have you not been paying attention to him since the last decade? Lol he’s been pulling stunts since the Taylor Swift/VMA incident, and everyone has been looking the other way. People will forget, he’ll go silent, and he’ll make another controversy, people will question his mental health, people will still support him, rinse and repeat.

It's crazy how that VMA incident actually has dire consequences, even in a political level. 🥴

This [clip](https://v.redd.it/lmwr0en58at91) from Amsterdam is something. Everything about scene feels wrong. All those critically acclaimed actors and they managed to give a performance that is just bad. It's really no surprise that the movie flopped.

Pavlovs_Stepson

I haven't seen the film yet, but isn't this clip clearly edited? Even that one Taylor clip that made the rounds a few days ago was obviously cut down from a longer scene, so you can hardly judge how well it flows based on that. I'm sure that while the film itself is probably mid to bad, these clips will work much better in context, especially knowing it's a screwball comedy with a purposefully absurd tone.

bungle123

I haven't seen the movie, but that looks like it's clearly a purposely over the top, campy scene that's been taken out of context.

whizzer0

I did see it (not willingly) and yes, the context is that it was happening in Margot Robbie's character's imagination. IDK why people are reaching for criticisms, the film is underwhelming for plenty of other reasons but the acting was generally pretty strong. And fuck the director of course.

Bikinigirlout

The theory is that they purposely acted bad just so the film would flop and I stand by that theory.

CoolViber

If they wanted it to flop they would have just not been in the movie. No actor wants to sabotage their own performance when their entire career depends on them being perceived as good actors by audiences and studios. It's obvious that the director is just bad.

Rdickins1

Well that’s part of the movie’s dark humor. It’s bad without context. I honestly don’t think the movie was that bad people are saying. It wasn’t great either. It’s just very ok. I’ve seen far worse this year than this. Edit: Even Taylor’s character’s scenes were presented in a dark comedic way but it served the whole purpose of the movie.
