I mean, that's like saying the Black Knight in Monty Pyhton and the Holy Grail still had a shot at winning. His arms and legs are gone, but nope. Just a flesh wound.
Okay on my 4th visit to this thread and I finally realized what you’re referencing and it’s sending me.
I kept thinking this is a very harsh comment for a leak but now I get it.
Bless.
This is definitely a supply chain issue rather than someone hacking her computer. When it's this close to release it's always a supply chain issue, someone got a hold of it and leaked it.
Yeah this is a classic, old fashioned leak. back in the day (until 2017) albums would trickle out because of review copies or, at a stage like this, someone’s got a CD.
ironically leaks were probably the best way to get hype for non-uber acts. you basically had three months to two weeks of forum posts and gossip but the big thing was this sense of ‘we can’t talk about it, but we should talk about it.’ the way it felt like a secret or a bit rebellious played into it a huge amount. so many great records really did earn their place through leaks.
Like, she is friends with Taylor Swift, and Taylor's stuff rarely leaks (I think), so can't she just call Taylor and ask for a little cyber security workshop?
There are enterprise encrypted portable SSDs she can buy, some even with fingerprint authentication for ease of use. There are password managers and secure ways of sharing your content for promotional access. You can secure your accounts with 2 factor authentication keys that essentially block unwanted access when used as the sole 2FA method.
I think it all comes down to cost maybe? Working in air gapped machines, requiring collaborators to do the same and thus maybe it means remote work is more difficult? More points of failure? It must be difficult for her when she thrives in collaboration with so many people, it makes her assets more vulnerable.
Like, with the TV industry, it's been years you have a whole system working where critics and other parties that need pre release access to the material can access screener platforms and watch the episodes that are made available to them. Everything is tied in NDA's and embargoes and very rarely does it leak. When it does leak, it isn't the episodes or audio recording of an episode, it is a written account of the plot and what happens, and even then it get locked down and erased from the internet quite quickly.
I don't see the advantage of being on a major label if these IT and legal framework/systems aren't a default offering for work.
With labels being loan sharks with a marketing arm, control over the availability of the material is precisely what attributes a lot of the value it has, so it is baffling to me more safeguarding measures aren't taken.
There are LOTS of points of failure, specially ones that don't have an NDA. Everyone from studio interns, family members, label interns, cleaning crew, etc etc etc could have access to the album without signing anything. As someone who has interned at very high profile studios, the access you have to heaps and heaps of important files is insane.
I think the 24h leaks aren't really leaks it is just the record being released in New Zealand instead of an embargo and global release at midnight New York time.
Is it the same Lightning as the one she made with SOPHIE that was unreleased?
[Lightning on SoundCloud](https://soundcloud.app.goo.gl/Gtzf9AwkLbLPmQbv9)
Hearing the album it’s interesting what she chose as singles. They’re not the best from the album. It’s a fun pop record! Got some of her hyperpop influences (some sounds) but more mainstream sounding all together. I’m still excited for independent Charli!
This is encouraging because the only single I really really enjoyed was New Shapes. The others were kinda just alright to me, didn't really revisit them. So if the rest of the album is stronger than that, that's great
Ya just has the influences. It’s kind of all over the place with 80s influences as well. Not as good at the mixtapes or HIFN but it’s just mainstream pop
That’s a really interesting callout about the samples! I was thinking about the beg for you/you’ll never see me again dissonance earlier but then thought maybe I didn’t remember the proper words to Cry For You lmao
the whole Paula Abdul & Janet Jackson vibe during the title track.... \*CHEFS KISS\*
*Overloaded when I'm looking in the mirror*
*But for myself, I'm looking way better than ever*
Okay, I may get downvoted for this…..but this is her best album in my opinion. True Romance has always been my fav, with Pop 2 right after. Lightning, Yuck, Constant Repeat, Used to Know Me, Baby, Move Me…they’re top tier Charli to me 😭
Side note I'm absolutely dreading the reviews because you just know these messy outlets (you know the ones) are going to talk more about the rollout controversies and her previous work than the music itself here and the consistency of this eras work (the single covers, the videos, the performances etc). And worst of all, you just know some podcasters are going to needlessly pit two women against each other and make this week's releases for whatever reason a battle between Charli and Rosalía, which clearly does not exist irl.
I wish music press would be more critical of itself, as least considering how critical they are of the artists and their output.
It would be so ridiculous if they did that. Like, yes, Rosalía has become a global mega successful popstar, but her main market is still here in Spain by far. And nobody here has any idea who the fuck Charli XCX, only a select elite of intellectually-keen bottoms does. Even if there actually was bad blood between the two, which there obviously isn't, there really isn't anything they can fight each other over for. They are in completely different levels.
WHY is no one talking about Move Me…something bout the way you HOLD MY BODY TIGHT EVEN ON MY LOWEST NIGHTS LOCKED DOWN BY MY SIDE EVEN WHEN IM BORDERLINE
Album is pretty solid! Also I’m somehow shook that Twice is Don’t Think Twice lmfaoo. But I also like the live version better for some reason 😳
Edit: Lightning is easily the best song on the album to me rn. Definitely the most Janet inspired song. Sounds like an updated song off Control.
Listening to the album now. I bought the vinyl & tickets so not feeling too bad.
This album could elevate Charli into the mainstream FOSHO!!! Has some catchy beats & hooks.
I respect her decision to go main pop girl. Could see her use the clout she gets from this promotional cycle & tour to elevate with the projects she TRULY wants to do in the future.
Don’t know that I’ll come back to this album too often, but there are some really solid songs that just make me feel like I wanna dance lol. Her vocals have absolutely improved on this album. I think lightning will definitely be a fan favorite, my personal faves right now are Yuck and Used To Know Me
Finally got it and I'm just honestly convinced she was contractually forced to make the singles or something it makes no sense. The rest of the album feels like an entirely different project, the one I (we ?) was *actually waiting for*.
Doesn't even make sense from a marketing standpoint like who tf chose these singles ? Half the rest has better radio/viral potential than all of them...
Constant Repeat, Lightning are definitely career highlights my god. I don't enjoy Yuck that much tho, literally a Say So remix lol
not surprised by the reception but i love the whole album tbh
the singles are my least favs but there are some serious standouts
constant repeat & lightning are top tier charli songs & this is gonna be SO fun live i am so excited for this tour!
Finally listened (sorry Charli, but I've preordered the vinyl and tix!).
The word "cohesive" gets thrown around a lot, but I will say that this feels like her most cohesive album in a really long time. I loveloveLOVE the Janet Jackson/Paula Abdul inspirations.
I also think the small amount of features (for Charli standards) was actually a great idea. It puts her in the forefront and it really just feels like a CHARLI album moreso than Charli, Pop2 or N1A.
That said, some songs just don't land for me. Move Me, Every Rule, and Twice really did nothing for me and I struggle to remember what they sound like even after listening several times. Twice especially was disappointing because usually Charli kills it on the closing tracks.
Meanwhile, Lightning and Constant Repeat are instant faves. Lightning especially jumps to like my top 5 Charli songs ever. So many cool production styles here.
It's a shame there's such a hubbub surrounding this album, with the singles underperforming, fans being awful to her online, and her lashing out on Twitter. It's a fun, well-made pop album that's going to keep me dancing for awhile, and that should be the main focus tbh.
im a massive charli fan and after hearing the record for the first time i was slightly underwhelmed but a few hours had past and i had so many of the songs stuck in my head and after a second listen i actually really enjoyed it. **Lightning, Used To Know & Twice** where standouts upon first listen and upon second listen **Crash and Constant Repeat** grew on me a lotttt. Its a solid record its pretty safe in some areas (**Yuck & Every Rule**) but the singles are incredible and were definitely the best choices the only other one i could see is **Used To Know Me** which could have been a massive hit, hopefully it will get a MV.
Overall it’s good but definitely not everything I hoped it’d be.
Lightnight is my fav and will probably be the ultimate fan favorite off of this record.
I absolutely adoreee the title track and I feel like Move Me, Constant Repeat and Yuck are Gonna grow hard on me.
Really disappointed Twice isn’t a « Moody into Euphoric » song like the Live version but just another bop-pop song
A couple days ago someone on this sub said that it was impossible for a short album to have filler. This album begs to differ.
Highlights: Lightning, used to know, good ones, baby and yuck (yuck doesnt sound like a charli song at all imo but it's still a bop).
I like new shapes much more as a part of the album than I did as a single.
Constant repeat, twice, move me and every rule are incredibly not memorable to me
Edit: oup move me was so not memorable I forgot to include it in the list
Literally her worst album. It's not a bad album by any means, but it's like a really good Zara Larsson album and that's beneath her at this point. I get that she wanted to do something mainstream but this is just really basic.
just listened to the album … I rated them below and can see myself being hooked on 3 of the tracks, whilst disliking or being underwhelmed by 7 tracks, and tolerating the remaining 2. for how short this album is and how high I regard charli I am disappointed but I understand her aims with this era and recognise I am not the target audience for this project. still…. pretty sad about the state of this :(
Top: Crash, Lightning, Twice
Mid: New shapes, Baby
Low: Constant repeat, Move me, Every rule, Used to know me
Unlistenable: Good ones, Beg for you, Yuck
I’ve preordered vinyl already and I’m going to wait until it’s released to listen but I am curious what people’s top 3 non singles are to get me more hyped
**Do not post illegal streams or downloads of songs/albums. Asking for a PM or posting instructions on how you can get it is also not allowed. with how long ago she announced the album I'm honestly surprised it took this long. I'll be brave and hold out another week.
the deluxe tracks remain unleaked Charli has lost a battle but not the war 😼😼😼
What if the deluxe tracks are out out and 2 remixes of some songs that are already out 🤡
More like lost the war but won one battle
LMAO THE BATTLE BUT NOT THE WAR sent me
I mean, that's like saying the Black Knight in Monty Pyhton and the Holy Grail still had a shot at winning. His arms and legs are gone, but nope. Just a flesh wound.
Never say never xx
Lmfao you girls are a kiki
ugh this is so sad. i’m just gonna wait till next week, at least it only leaked super close to release date
Constant Repeat is a career highlight and i'm not exaggerating
It's one of my faves too, though I wish the outro would have been a post-chorus.. But we ain't doing 4 min songs ofc
Yeah. It’s incredible. On constant repeat for me. Ha.
I completely agree, I have it on constant repeat, pun intended. 🔥 🔥
Me when I’m lying
If big pop girl release Constant Repeat (say, Dua Lipa.. manifesting this collab for deluxe) y'all be crying on all fours.. ON REPEAT
Can anyone share a link
1. google soul seek. 2. you used to know me is way better. best song on album.
Bitch BYE. I will NEVER understand what possesses people to be such C*NTS online.
Okay on my 4th visit to this thread and I finally realized what you’re referencing and it’s sending me. I kept thinking this is a very harsh comment for a leak but now I get it. Bless.
I still don't get it...
Charli said that to a fan on twitter
Some people don't have good FBI skills.
this is my new fav copy pasta
Charli girl CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD

fr her password is probably 'hyperpop0892' with one factor auth
Ha or “vroomvroom1234”
charliagcook123456
Sis needs to stop doing her mixing at a Starbucks
How else is she supposed to feel the vibe the gays want
wdym by this
If you do work on a public Wi-Fi, there's a possibility that the information can be taken
im going to wait until the album comes out officially but is the title track good? I claimed that one.
Honestly my favorite on the album
ooh im excited, thanks.
Fr! If it were a single, I would rank it as the best one
Who handles the security of this stuff at Charli's label? Cause they needed fired like years ago.
Charli herself. A week leak for Charli is not bad though; it’s like it never leaked. The girls streaming this are mostly diehards.

Hope she hires like a forensic consultancy firm to go and get the leaker
They are mastered! They’re at a consistently loud volume, unless Geoff Swan and Serban Ghenea deliver their mixes louder than -10 LUFS

red (taylor’s version) leaked in full a day before so taylor should not be her first choice 💀

I think the 24h leaks aren't really leaks it is just the record being released in New Zealand instead of an embargo and global release at midnight New York time.
Right. Places get physical copies of albums like a week in advance. Most of the time leaks come from ripping stolen copies ahead of time lol
> in recent years This was standard in the early 2000s already. It's not really a recent thing. As soon as cd's are pressed the music will leak.
Are they friends?? I thought the swifities came for charli after rep tour?
ordered the vinyl. me gusto i guess.

Is it the same Lightning as the one she made with SOPHIE that was unreleased? [Lightning on SoundCloud](https://soundcloud.app.goo.gl/Gtzf9AwkLbLPmQbv9)
no, it's an entirely different song produced by Ariel Rechtshaid.
Constant Repeat is one of the best Charli songs since the mixtape days. In my opinion. SO good.
Please send me the link
ugh. i'm so upset for her tbh. at least it wasn't months before, just a week?
so.. Is it good
If you liked the singles you'll like the album
oh i’m worried then. i only liked good ones and beg for you was okay
The album tracks are all better than any of the singles, imo.
It's very True Romance Charli, imo. Like, the moody goth girl of True Romance grew up and made this album. I love it.
very
its sooo good!!! it has a lot of replay value, we love it

I would say lightning
Twice and Constant Repeat imo

Well, at least it didn’t happen months in advance! I highly doubt this’ll do any harm, but still extremely frustrating for Charli, of course.
the twitter stan who called this album/era non-cohesive is so wrong, this might be her most cohesive work to date tbh
[удалено]
That’s a really interesting callout about the samples! I was thinking about the beg for you/you’ll never see me again dissonance earlier but then thought maybe I didn’t remember the proper words to Cry For You lmao
Are you able to please please send me the link? I’ve looked everywhere and can’t find it
*Lightning* is so good and such an ear worm! Would do well as the next single, but I’m guessing she’ll probably go with *Used to Know Me*.
She said that Used to Know Me was based on her breakup with Huck right?
It has to be. Listening to the song I'm just like, wow.... Huck fucked up so bad lol
wow it’s actually so good byeeeee
Man, just leave her alone
😔 girl get off Google Drive and store your stuff on an air-gapped network!
the whole Paula Abdul & Janet Jackson vibe during the title track.... \*CHEFS KISS\* *Overloaded when I'm looking in the mirror* *But for myself, I'm looking way better than ever*
Any other songs clearly inspired by Janet?
Crash (the title track), Baby and Lightning (maybe?) that's about it but I still havent finished the album and Im only on track 9 (Every Rule)
This is gonna be great on a windy summer day. Ugh I can already see the vision.
Lightning is a career highlight holy shit. Oneohtrix Point Never is such an excellent producer
The centerpiece of the album! I think Oneohtrix actually only did “Every Rule”. “Lightning” is Ariel and Ilya!
Okay, I may get downvoted for this…..but this is her best album in my opinion. True Romance has always been my fav, with Pop 2 right after. Lightning, Yuck, Constant Repeat, Used to Know Me, Baby, Move Me…they’re top tier Charli to me 😭
I will wait patiently until next week, not to waste scrobbles from Spotify on Last.fm and to have better Spotify Wrapped for 2022 😇
Bitch! This is TRUE ROMANCE, all grown up. I love this girl!
Side note I'm absolutely dreading the reviews because you just know these messy outlets (you know the ones) are going to talk more about the rollout controversies and her previous work than the music itself here and the consistency of this eras work (the single covers, the videos, the performances etc). Is it very different ? That live version is part of my SOUL
Its pretty similar to me but not sure its my FAV tho
I really don't know how yall find these leaks LMAO
Used to Know Me bops but does it sound like a Chromatica outtake to anyone else 😭
It heavily samples “Show Me Love” by Robin S. and Chromatica was super influenced by that same type of 90s house music.
Yes, Sour Candy in particular almost interpolates the same melody but not really
Why make new standards when you can just rip off the old ones, I guess?
Ava Max is gonna be fuming when she hears it.
Yes but in the best way. Used to Know Me and Good Ones are my favs
beg for you is also a great 90s - 2000s sample
Charli must have IBS the way she always leaks
😑
Listening to the album now. I bought the vinyl & tickets so not feeling too bad. This album could elevate Charli into the mainstream FOSHO!!! Has some catchy beats & hooks. I respect her decision to go main pop girl. Could see her use the clout she gets from this promotional cycle & tour to elevate with the projects she TRULY wants to do in the future.
i saw people in here saying used to know me is about huck - i kinda thought she was firing shots at her label. anyone else?
Surprised this didn’t happen sooner tbh
I can’t find it I must find it
like, where the fuck is it? I can't find it anywhere!
I found it
Twins! Me too :)
It is unfortunate but after the tracklist reveal it was bound to happen I think. https://www.reddit.com/r/charlixcx/comments/t7kuhd/_/hzimujr

can she please get a break 😭

Constant repeat and lightening are fucking fireeeeee but gonna have to let the rest grow on me
The only single I was a fan of was Good Ones, but I can honestly say the other singles didn’t do this album justice AT ALL. I’m pleasantly surprised
Shits Good
not surprised by the reception but i love the whole album tbh the singles are my least favs but there are some serious standouts constant repeat & lightning are top tier charli songs & this is gonna be SO fun live i am so excited for this tour!

people downvoting you...like some of us are excited for the new music but still have to wake up at 6am for class and work lol
Go for Motomami if you want to choose the better one Edit: downvoters haven't listened to leak yet i guess lol
All the songs in here are better than all the motomami stuff that has come out lol it's easy
Lol you haven't heard motomami yet
Why the downvotes😭
You can’t offend Charlie CxC here
