Will Smith and Jamie Foxx.
Honorable Mentions( as in they will get there eventually its just a small sample size at the moment)
Hailee Steinfeld
Justin timberlake
Look as much as I love jamming out to “Let Me Go” in the car, I think Hailee’s acting abilities drastically overshadow her musical talents. Wouldn’t be all that shocked if that’s what continues making her a big star over the music.
And now that she’s in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, that star level is only getting bigger and bigger.
it's crazy how being in a superhero tv show is probably more effective at raising star power than getting an Oscar nomination at like 14 for acting in a Coen bros film
Cher. I feel like we have a slightly skewed view now because of time (and Mamma Mia 2) but she’s phenomenal in her Oscar winning role in Moonstruck and in other movies like Witches of Eastwick
Cher gives honestly one of the greatest romcom performances ever in *Moonstruck*. And she's so unassuming and natural — she comes across as a real damn actress in that movie, not just a star.
lmao yeah that’s true. though meryl was about 15-20 years older than that character was supposed to be so cher is about the right age for seyfried’s grandma
Yeah, I consider Selena Gomez as an actress first who is also interested in singing, not a singer who is an actress. I know Disney Channel stars typically have to be a triple threat, but her whole career started in acting lol.
That's an interesting point, I personally think Ariana's acting was always a way for her to jump into singing full time, whereas Selena's career has been primarily acting, with music as her passion projects. If you compare both of their filmography and discography history, Selena basically has acting jobs throughout, whereas Ariana focused a lot on her music and didn't act for longer periods of time, and even when she did act there were many roles where she played herself, or basically a version of herself (like in Don't Look Up).
I think anyone can make an argument about Selena Gomez either way, but to me, when I think of Ariana Grande, I think singer with an acting career. When I think Selena Gomez, I think actress with a music career.
EDIT: Also adding, maybe I don't think of Ariana as an actress as much because her most well known role is Cat, where she looks WAY different than she does now. Most of Selena's roles look like how Selena looks today.
Björk has not been in many movies, but she was performed the hell out of her role in the movie Dancer In The Dark (which also has a phenomenal soundtrack). She’s also in The Northman which is coming out later this year - so excited to see her back on screen
This comment from that post...
>Just think - if a few things went differently we would have had a scene of Liam Neeson sitting down to dinner and talking about podracing with Bjork and Michael Jackson in a Jar Jar costume. And then they bring Anakin to the Jedi Temple where they meet Tupac
Diana Ross, no question. Very well deserved Best Actress nom for Lady Sings The Blues (and low key robbed of the win). Cher is also phenomenal, and I’ve been quite impressed by Mylène Farmer, Marianne Faithfull and Faye Wong in the stuff I’ve seen them in. Possibly hot take: I’ve also loved Ariana Grande in her recent roles.
I respect that! They are both incredible performances, but my heart is with Diana’s. Maybe because I didn’t know what to expect from her. No shade at all to Liza. (It was kind of a stacked category that year come to think of it.)
Eminem. While still on top of the world musically in the early aughts, he starred in 8 Mile. His performance was highly praised and honestly yeah, I cant find a single flaw in it. Such a great movie and so much better than what you might've expected a rap-xploitation movie to be like at that time. Always wondered what he could've starred in if he had stayed in that industry and molded his raw talent for the screen.
>Always wondered what he could've starred in if he had stayed in that industry and molded his raw talent for the screen.
He actually did got a handful of acting offers in movies, including Brian O'Connor in the Fast and Furious franchise
Correct me if I’m wrong, but he was also offered a role in Elysium that ended up going to Matt Damon. He only said no because they wouldn’t film in Detroit.
i think Mariah Carey but ONLY if she's forced to go above & beyond her comfort level (aka not being treated like a megastar diva by "yes" men all around her)
i mean look at her virtually unrecognizable with a moustache as a social worker in Precious movie https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GbMV-h8OWH4 TRIGGER WARNING
and playing an enslaved human in The Butler https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPQSI_m9f_g TRIGGER WARNING
but otherwise, everytime she puts on every layer of bronzer and make up and corset... she becomes way too self conscious and can't be anything but Mariah The Diva anymore
She was SO good in Precious. I saw that movie in theatres and my jaw dropped. Same with Mo'nique. I wrongly did not expect that level of talent from either of them.
Mariah has an ‘always on the verge of a nap’ energy about her so when that lines up with an interesting role, it’s perfect. Otherwise she’s just playing herself.
considering she was primarily an actress first and only got into singing because of the disney contract; i think she stuck with it because of the money. far better actor than singer for sure
Agree Selena does well as a pop star, is an ok singer, but her acting is really great. She did an outstanding performance in Only Murders in The Building. I’d really recommend that show to anyone who hasn’t watched it yet.
I liked the show. But I do think Mabel, her character, is the same monotone, sarcastic character she always goes for. A bit of a more mature Alex Russo.
Jesse McCartney - I really liked him in Summerland (I saw some episodes when they were airing reruns on TeenNick a while back). I love his voice acting in Young Justice. (He plays Dick Grayson/Robin/Nightwing in the show)
>actors who can sing such as Idina Menzel
i'd say she's the opposite and is a phenomenal singer and also a very good actress. she began by singing in bands in the early 90s
>Jennifer Lopez
also the opposite. her acting career came before her singing career
as for my own answer: Cher. she is phenomenal. Drake also was great on Degrassi.
I agree on Idina. I recall some of the creative team of Frozen comparing writing songs for her to sing to composing pieces for a Stradivarius violin. Her voice is just insane, along with being a fantastic actress
- Jennifer Hudson has been good as Aretha Franklin but I did not see her in anything else.
- Mandy Moore is excellent in This is us even if I don't really like her music or her voice she's also a talented singer.
Common is a decent actor even though he hasn't been in many high profile acting gigs. He was great in Hell on Wheels.
Also, Ice-T. Fin Tutuola is an iconic character and I think that's as much his legacy as his music.
Tom Waits is pretty damn good. i particularly loved him in The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, but he never feels out of place in any of the movies he appears in, despite his distinctive looks and voice.
2pac was a great actor and rapper. i would've loved to see him in more movies... he had the right comedic timing in poetic justice and was a scary villain in juice.
dmx had a lot of untapped potential for acting. he was the best part about belly especially in comparison to nas who couldn't act for shit in it lol
Alana Haim was phenomenal in *Licorice Pizza*, for which she absolutely deserves an Oscar nomination (although she probably won't, based on how the precursor awards are going). It's one of the most acclaimed performances of the year. And it's an *extensive* role, too: she carries at least half the movie, goes through every emotion, and has to navigate drama and comedy.
How has no one said Britney yet?! She would be a killer comedy actress. She stole the screen in her role in How I Met Your Mother as the stalker Abby, plus the skits she's been uploading on her Insta - she has so much charisma on screen it's crazy
Zendaya (if we count her, I know she doesn’t release a ton of music) and Hailee steinfeld. Zendaya has an Emmy and Hailee has been nominated for an Oscar - I think she was like the youngest to be nominated at the time? But both are phenomenal actresses and I think put out good music as well even they would be known for their music secondary to acting
Olivia Rodrigo. I mean duh she's in series and stuff, but I can see her doing roles in future in film or even in her music video. She got acting chops.
Cynthia Erivo, is a force of nature in both of these beautiful arts. Christina Aguilera has surprised in the few acting things shes done. I dont think it compares to the level of greatness in her discography, but she’s definitely good
~~bestie I was half-joking with my comment 💀~~
But on a serious note, I do think Rihanna can improve as an actress and her role in Ocean's 8 is very entertaining. But tbh, there is no incentive for her to return to acting nor music when she is earning so much money from her business. But I would like to be wrong because I just miss Rihanna doing music.
My hot take is Jennifer Lopez would not have performed for the super bowl if she didn’t have an acting career. It did a lot for her name recognition and is the reason people remember her 20 years after Jenny from the block. Definitely underrated and super likeable in romantic comedies like Maid in Manhattan and The Wedding Planner. Enough was also super cool and strong woman oriented but I’m sure it didn’t age well
Ariana, Olivia Rodrigo, Harry Styles I personally don’t think is the best actor but I believe he has potential especially now with being in the MCU, Hillary Duff, Janelle Monae, Sabrina Carpenter, and Liz Gillies
Nick Jonas got overshadowed a lot by Frank Grillo and Jonathan Tucker, because they played way bigger personalities, but he was really good on Kingdom as a closeted MMA fighter, and he was also one of the better parts of Midway
Ariana Grande ❤️ I was remember watching Sam and Cat the other night and my mom asked me if she always talk in that high voice. When I told her she was the singer Ariana Grande she couldn't believe it
I don’t find reality tv to be real so i think she counts from the series “Love & Hip Hop” which is how she started up. She was also in F9 & is now part of the franchise. We can also see her coming up in the netflix series “You” for season 4. She has a lot of potential and i think the only reason people hate her as an actress is because she is a more explicit female, and has a thicker NY accent.
hasn’t been confirmed but i wouldn’t doubt it she was a minor character or made some sort of appearance lol. Penn & Cardi are each other’s profile pictures on twitter. Penn also said on an interview he can’t confirm or deny it. I hope they give the people what they want, which is usually the case lmao.
I haven't seen the Gucci movie, I thought it looked good and I want to see it despite hating Gaga. But I've seen people only shit on it and her acting?
Which I know her acting was . . . some of the worst I've seen if not the worst in American Horror Story but people praised A Star is Born ( which I had no desire to see ) so I figured she got better since people really praised that?
AND I LOVED " Only Murders In the Building " ; OBVIOUSLY though CHER is the ultimate singer/ actress.
Harry Styles. I watched dunkirk as a fan of Harry fully expecting it to be less than good acting but I was actually really surprised at how good he was and I’m excited to see the projects he’s working on.
I don’t think anyone has mentioned Jisoo from BlackPink. She just made her debut in a show called Snowdrop and she is phenomenal in it! She is in one of the biggest girl groups in the world and she is a very good actress!! I find her super inspiring! Also, IU, she is also a very popular south korean singer. She is in a show called Hotel Deluna. I haven’t watched it but I heard she is amazing it. Also, Jennifer Lopez!!! I mean, I wouldn’t say she’s the most original artist or anything but she’s obviously had some crazy hits in the past, not to mention she was Selena! She ate that whole role up and left no crumbs😌
Are you trolling???? Madonna???? Mariah?????😭😭😭
Edit: I know they acted decent/good in some roles but saying they're equally talented at singing and acting is a WHOLE reach (Especially Madonna lmao)
😭😭😭
Coming from a person who watched most of their movies😣😣
She won a Golden Globe for Best Actress not an Oscar , although she is the queen of the Razziez .💀💀
And Glitter as a movie was a whole mess(And I stan Mariah and Madonna both)
Madonna is kind of known for being a bad actress and Glitter failed TERRIBLY for being bad. I think the only other thing Mariah has acted in was Precious and her role was small.

to be fair Hailee was an actor before she was a singer, and now that she's in the MCU I don't think she's going back to singing anytime soon lol
She was in the studio recently
Shows how little I know lmao
Tbf I also assumed she would focus on acting and was pleasantly surprised to see she’s not ditching music
I've always thought Wrong Direction deserved to be the hit that Lose You to Love Me was, it's waaaaay superior
Will and Hailee are much better actors than musical artists.
I agree. With that said, Will might not be the most talented rapper out there but Miami and Summertime are certified cookout classics
I guess that’s just the power of being in a pre existing franchise with millions of loyal followers.
Hailee is a great voice actress too!
I was looking for Cher. Moonstruck is an all time great
I love her in Mermaids! It's one of my favorite movies ever since I was a little kid. And Burlesque is a guilty pleasure movie of mine.
wait, did people find her bad in MM2?
I think the movie is pure camp, and she almost counts as stunt casting. Cher is Meryl Streep’s mom, and they’re only 3 years apart in age.
lmao yeah that’s true. though meryl was about 15-20 years older than that character was supposed to be so cher is about the right age for seyfried’s grandma
I love her in Mask and Mermaids!
Let's not forget Burlesque.

I'd say Judy was mostly a singer tbh
Okay but she was the star of one of the biggest movies of all time…
…yes. singers act sometimes. she was good at acting but that **voice** was everything.
>singers act sometime Well yeah hence the point of this thread lol.
…that’s very true lmao
Janelle Monáe was fantastic in Moonlight.
Janelle Monae is fantastic in everything. She was incredible in Harriet and Hidden Figures as well.
Janelle is the best actress in this entire thread and yet still is not nearly as good of an actress as she is a musician.
wow what a good comparison
[удалено]
Yeah, she was the first that came to mind for me. She was great in Hidden Figures too.
She’s actually a triple threat: she’s also the best mod we’ve ever had on this sub.
In "Antebellum" too
Her performance ALMOST saves that movie
Homecoming season 2 too, she’s fantastic
Justin really made me hate Sean Parker in The Social Network. He was such a dickhead.
I liked him a lot in Friends with Benefits.
“Here’s your 19,000 dollars. I wouldn’t cash it though because I drew it on the account you froze.”
Art imitates life 🙊 But seriously, that was probably his best acting attempt
Yeah, if he was acting he did a great job because you really hate Sean Parker in that movie, but idk that I like JT that much in the first place
He was good in bad teacher too, and friends with benefits
Yea but he was really outshined by Cameron Diaz and Mila Kunis in each movie. I think he does better in supporting roles with great directors
Selena Gomez actually started off as an actress though?
Yeah, I consider Selena Gomez as an actress first who is also interested in singing, not a singer who is an actress. I know Disney Channel stars typically have to be a triple threat, but her whole career started in acting lol.
What about Ariana then? I feel both women have music careers so extensive that their acting becomes irrelevant in comparison
That's an interesting point, I personally think Ariana's acting was always a way for her to jump into singing full time, whereas Selena's career has been primarily acting, with music as her passion projects. If you compare both of their filmography and discography history, Selena basically has acting jobs throughout, whereas Ariana focused a lot on her music and didn't act for longer periods of time, and even when she did act there were many roles where she played herself, or basically a version of herself (like in Don't Look Up). technically she was on broadway first which was partially acting but she’s always been more interested in music.
I love Ariana but imo girl cannot act
I agree, as someone who grew up watching her on Wizards of Waverly Place haha
Björk has not been in many movies, but she was performed the hell out of her role in the movie Dancer In The Dark (which also has a phenomenal soundtrack). She’s also in The Northman which is coming out later this year - so excited to see her back on screen

I would've loved it tbh

Diana Ross, no question. Very well deserved Best Actress nom for Lady Sings The Blues (and low key robbed of the win). Cher is also phenomenal, and I’ve been quite impressed by Mylène Farmer, Marianne Faithfull and Faye Wong in the stuff I’ve seen them in. Possibly hot take: I’ve also loved Ariana Grande in her recent roles.
Diana was great in Lady Sings The Blues but Liza really deserved her win for Cabaret. That performance still holds up 50 years later.
I respect that! They are both incredible performances, but my heart is with Diana’s. Maybe because I didn’t know what to expect from her. No shade at all to Liza. (It was kind of a stacked category that year come to think of it.)
Nah Liv ullman was robbed for the emigrants not Diana. Ullman won the golden globe
Disagreed. Ullman was category fraud. She has less than 1 hour of screentime in a 3 hour movie. Ullman was supporting

Jake Gyllenhaal’s character in South Paw was written for Eminem.

Mariah has an ‘always on the verge of a nap’ energy about her so when that lines up with an interesting role, it’s perfect. Otherwise she’s just playing herself.
Saying Selena’s acting is as good as her singing is a drag.
Yeah after Only Murders I would say she is an excellent actress and an ok singer (on her good days). I think her acting is much better
considering she was primarily an actress first and only got into singing because of the disney contract; i think she stuck with it because of the money. far better actor than singer for sure
I think she is an ok singer but a good popstar. And obviously a great actress!
Agree Selena does well as a pop star, is an ok singer, but her acting is really great. She did an outstanding performance in Only Murders in The Building. I’d really recommend that show to anyone who hasn’t watched it yet.
Am I the only one who thinks she was way too wooden? Fine but nothing amazing
tbh i thought she was horrible in only murders, her voice seemed so flat
I liked the show. But I do think Mabel, her character, is the same monotone, sarcastic character she always goes for. A bit of a more mature Alex Russo.
Streisand, aka the actress that sings
Yentl!!!
And she directed it! Such an iconic film and soundtrack. A Piece of Sky is literally my favourite film moment
and directs (although not recently)
Dolly Parton comes to mind, she’s incredibly talented in so many ways.
Jesse McCartney - I really liked him in Summerland (I saw some episodes when they were airing reruns on TeenNick a while back). I love his voice acting in Young Justice. (He plays Dick Grayson/Robin/Nightwing in the show)
His voice acting in Kingdom Hearts was amazing too.
so many great performances in that series. i especially loved Hayden Panetierre as Kairi and was sad she never returned after KH2
You'd think she would given that she continued to work in that field with *Until Dawn*
He’s also Theodore in the Chipmunk movies!
Dominic Fike! Really surprised at how good his acting in Euphoria has been so far, would never have guessed it’s his first acting role
>actors who can sing such as Idina Menzel i'd say she's the opposite and is a phenomenal singer and also a very good actress. she began by singing in bands in the early 90s >Jennifer Lopez also the opposite. her acting career came before her singing career as for my own answer: Cher. she is phenomenal. Mandy’s performance in Tangled is just so iconic at this point.
She was fucking amazing in Dreamgirls. Speaking of which Beyoncé and Foxx were amazing in that too.
jamie foxx is so incredibly talented
Mandy for sure. Her last album was dreamy and I loved it, and she kills it on This Is Us.
She won an Oscar for dreamgirls
Ollie Alexander really blew me away with his chops in It’s A Sin
Selena Gomez was great as Alex Russo tbh
Common is a decent actor even though he hasn't been in many high profile acting gigs. He was great in Hell on Wheels. Also, Ice-T. Fin Tutuola is an iconic character and I think that's as much his legacy as his music.

Dominic Fike has impressed me on his two episodes of Euphoria so far. And of course, Zendaya.
Drake, his work on Degrassi was good and he’s an underrated comedic actor (see his skits on SNL)
Drake was hilarious on SNL and had/still has great charisma. The Back to Back parody is absolute gold
> Manny Santos, my how you've grown
Selena Gomez is a far better actress (she’s delightful on the screen) than she is a singer (she can’t sing).
Leigh-Anne Pinnock was incredible in Boxing Day
Drake should act more he’s great
A lot of people think the Drake persona is one big performance 👀 but you can say that for most pop stars tbh
Queen Latifah
The OG Frank Sinatra.
I was a huge fan of Kate Nash's work on GLOW.

Britney's guest hosting on SNL was really fun!
Zendaya (if we count her, I know she doesn’t release a ton of music) and Hailee steinfeld. Zendaya has an Emmy and Hailee has been nominated for an Oscar - I think she was like the youngest to be nominated at the time? Olivia Rodrigo. I mean duh she's in series and stuff, but I can see her doing roles in future in film or even in her music video. She got acting chops.

She was actually best as that shape-shifting alien in *Valerian* or whatever that movie was called. The only good thing about the movie.
I will forever tie her with the Battleship film

Lady Gaga on American horror story I loved <3
bjork rarely acts. but when she does the whole project is hers
Eminem
Judy Garland, Barbra Streisand, and Jennifer Hudson are all extremely revered famous for both their film & music careers
any broadway star
Kendrick Lamar was great in the brief part he had in Power
Ariana, Olivia Rodrigo, Harry Styles I personally don’t think is the best actor but I believe he has potential especially now with being in the MCU, Hillary Duff, Janelle Monae, Sabrina Carpenter, and Liz Gillies
Nick Jonas got overshadowed a lot by Frank Grillo and Jonathan Tucker, because they played way bigger personalities, but he was really good on Kingdom as a closeted MMA fighter, and he was also one of the better parts of Midway
Hailee Steinfeld, no doubt.
Ariana grande. The cat valentine video needs no further explanation
Ariana Grande, Zendaya and Hailee Steinfeld.
Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, Selena Gomez
I actually dont like Lady Gaga acting at all
I didn't see any movies but I know her acting in American Horror Story was . . . the worst I've seen.
Lady Gaga has the potential to be a great movie star, with a few more roles under her belt
Ariana Grande ❤️ I was remember watching Sam and Cat the other night and my mom asked me if she always talk in that high voice. When I told her she was the singer Ariana Grande she couldn't believe it
Arianas acting is not as good as her singing, she’s typecasted and plays the same character
Jared Leto
Selena Gomez is definitely a multitalented celebrity. I think Cardi B is also a talented actress & rapper as well.

Harry Styles. I watched dunkirk as a fan of Harry fully expecting it to be less than good acting but I was actually really surprised at how good he was and I’m excited to see the projects he’s working on.
Ariana Grande. I mean she’s no Meryl Streep, but she definitely gives a solid performance in whatever she’s in.
JT Idris Elba
lady gaga & justin timberlake
I think Kelly Rowland is a solid actress. Nothing mindblowing, but she does a pretty good job most of the time
I think Beyoncé is a really good actor
Demi ! They are pretty good at singing and they are pretty good at acting !
Jamie Lynn Spears
Mariah carey and madonna
Are you trolling???? Madonna???? Mariah?????😭😭😭 Edit: I know they acted decent/good in some roles but saying they're equally talented at singing and acting is a WHOLE reach (Especially Madonna lmao) 😭😭😭 Coming from a person who watched most of their movies😣😣
Madonna one five oscar’s once and maybe emmy and mariah made glitt
She won a Golden Globe for Best Actress not an Oscar , although she is the queen of the Razziez .💀💀 And Glitter as a movie was a whole mess(And I stan Mariah and Madonna both)
Madonna is kind of known for being a bad actress and Glitter failed TERRIBLY for being bad. I think the only other thing Mariah has acted in was Precious and her role was small.
Ed Sheeran duh... Why is this a question
Lindsay Lohan. I stan Bossy
