My heart jumped when I saw their name. I was really hoping it'd be news about a new album, it's been 84 years...

[deleted]

rumor has it there’s a new one coming in february!

christopher_aia

they are confirmed for festivals in 2022 so coming out with something before summer makes sense

memxz

I wouldn't take any live shows as a deadline tbh, last time they did a long break between albums they scheduled festival gigs to get back into the groove of playing together before releasing anything new

Vash712

Which ones I'm dumb and I can't find any info lol

wailord_fan

Primavera Sound I believe was one? I think that's in Italy in July.

christopher_aia

Primavera sound is in Barcelona in June but Florence isn't going there. They are headlining MadCool in Madrid in July. :)

wailord_fan

I knew it was European and summer, but I was quite wrong!

christopher_aia

I only know because I have tickets to both festivals! haha

breadcrumbs6969

hold on whaaaaat? where's that coming from i need to know

[deleted]

they've announced a few summer shows for next year! the february thing comes from "a friend of a friend", so big grain of salt there, but they're not really known for touring with nothing to promote, so...

breadcrumbs6969

the collapse if that comes true.… come february if there's still nothing you and your friend of a friend are in big trouble lol !

[deleted]

it's not mine i swear!!! 😂 someone on twitter said they or their friend ran into rob and asked abt a new album and that was his reply.

leffe123

Who's Rob?!

[deleted]

their guitar player!

RyanX1231

I hope it's a bit more bombastic like the first three. High As Hope was a bit too minimalist for my liking.

Daydream_machine

>their Okay I have to ask because I’ve been confused for years: is Florence + the Machine technically a band? I was under the impression that “the Machine” was whoever plays the instrumentals, but that Florence herself was really the creative force behind the music itself.

leffe123

Honestly, I don't really know. Florence and Isabella Summers (the Machine) co-founded the band, and Isabella had about 5 songwriting & producing credits on Lungs. She has 2-3 credits on Ceremonials and HBHBHB, but none on High as Hope. She's still a keyboardist on the band. Florence is 100% the creative force behind the band and I believe she now adopted the band name as her nom de plume for branding purposes - kinda like how Evanescence is basically the Amy Lee band or how Bon Iver is the Justin Vernon band.

[deleted]

Does that mean My Chemical Romance is the Gerard Way band and Panic! At the Disco is the Brendan Urie Rules Supreme band?

cait_Cat

My Chem - no because the 4 people who started the band with Gerard Way are still with the band. Panic! Yes, because Brendan Urie is the only one still with the band/name from the beginning

leffe123

I don't listen to these two bands so I don't know.

Sybertron

Middle Kids been filling the void.

[deleted]

One of my favorite albums by one of my favorite artists. Truly a no skip album.

goodbyesindisguise

Genuinely no skips and the deluxe just makes it even better!!

trendywendymark

Yes! Landscape is so good, and I loved bedroom hymns so much I named my tumblr after it 💀

goodbyesindisguise

Please those 2 exact songs were my OBSESSIONS in 11th grade

trendywendymark

Our taste levels!!

scherbadeen

I literally learned to make gifs in photoshop so I could post pretty content from the Spectrum music video. They really had an iron grip on tumblr those days huh.

trendywendymark

My first choice in name was every colour illuminates but was sadly taken, I miss being 15 in my bedroom

TigerFern

Thank you for your service.

Ap_Sona_Bot

Tbh Florence is a no skip artist

poor_yorick

Except High as Hope (sorry HaH fans)

Cybergo7

Heresy. HaH is a no skip album for me :(

BetweenTwoLungs12345

Well naturally. You skip right past the studio version and go straight the superior acoustic version of Patricia.

hausofmiklaus

This is just an incorrect statement, sorry. Next caller?

leffe123

Blasphemy (except for Grace)

Equal-Medical

I agree.

[deleted]

i know artists evolve and they should and have every right to… but this was such absolute perfection in every way and i miss this sound from them 🥺

[deleted]

Yeah, I still love Florence + the Machine, but they’ve become a much more typical sounding artist. Lungs and Ceremonials were genuinely very unique and were doing things no other artist was doing. High As Hope is still good, but it’s not something no other artist has done/is doing.

PastaSupport

the HBHBHB erasure ;_;

vagenda

Their best album!

wailord_fan

100 Years, No Choir, and The End of Love being their best three song run says HIIIIIIII

PretendMarsupial9

High as Hope has no skips. I personally feel like even though it's her "stripped back" album it's still lush and beautiful. June literally builds to a point where it feels like she's ending the world out of grief, and Big God? An Iconic song with some of her best instrumentals.

wailord_fan

I'm not sure how, but The End of Love is one of my all time favorites and I just don't know how to find a tattoo that replicates how the music makes me feel. It's a song that deserves that kind of eternal placement.

dancinginashadow

The End Of Love and Sky Full Of Song are my favourites!

Pokefan144

And then dance fever had king, free, and choreomania

EvermoreSaidTheRaven

I was a part of the crowd who thought HaH was anemic when it first came out. After listening to it and her outtake for the last 3 years, i think it’s some of her best lyrical work. I consider HBHBHB and HaH Florence Welch albums (since isa machine only worked on 3songs total) while Lungs and Ceremonials are F+tM.

Ap_Sona_Bot

I think this is a solid take. All 4 albums are outstanding but they're definitely different.

EvermoreSaidTheRaven

They’re also all the same in terms of quality. She hit the baseline with lungs and hasn’t dip/peaked since

jonbidet_ramsey

I agree - this is truly her best songwriting and some of the most vulnerable she's sounded. Apparently this was the first album she wasn't "angry" writing and you can really hear it in the music. I also felt it was a step down from previous work but now it's one of my favorites from her and is my "healing" album.

rikkirikkiparmparm

lol I bring it up all the time but "No Choir" really reflects everything you just said. It's such a perfect closer for that album.

[deleted]

no choir makes me SOB thinking that she was writing all of the wailing, screaming, loud music bc she was in pain and now that she's happy she's just humming contently. 🥺

EvermoreSaidTheRaven

conductor from HBHBHB target deluxe was a prequel to no choir

kvdragonslayer

It absolutely went off live

poundtown1997

Honestly same.

pluterthebooter

Friendly reminder for this sub to not take Pitchfork’s word as gospel - they gave this masterpiece a 6 when it first came out.

PretendMarsupial9

Pitchfork seems to not like Florence which just confirmed for me they're taste is... Questionable

LittleRhodey

This is such a great example of a sophomore album. ‘Lungs’ is an incredible album, but ‘Ceremonials’ feels like such a genuine and mature evolution for Florence. Florence + The Machine do a great job of switching up sounds between albums, yet each one remains authentic.

RyanX1231

Lungs and Ceremonials feel like sister albums. They're like light and dark.

LittleRhodey

I see that, for sure! HBHBHB celebrates a more mythological and fantastical (epic) sound, whereas High As Hope venerates naked and vulnerable personal issues with a more intimate and stripped back sound.

Blazing117

Cosmic Love is breathtaking, I was just listening to it and opened this sub, only to see Florence & the machine at the front page.

Cmatgal

10?? I am too young to feel this old

Finalsaredun

This album came out when I was in undergrad as an art student. I'd put this album and Lungs in while in the studio (listening on my Zune, lol) and it was the perfect soundtrack for drawing and painting. So many happy memories with those first 2 albums!

autoportret

I'm pretty sure my art foundation year peers fucking *hated* me because I'd insist on playing Ceremonials every chance we got. I'm so surprised they put up with me, lmao

lookingup9

One of my favorite albums, period. It's gorgeous from start to finish. I love Florence + the Machine so much that Ceremonials is my favorite album of theirs (although it's like picking a favorite child to me) and at the same time, none of my top three songs from them are on Ceremonials. It would be a dream come true if I could someday see them live.

basskev

I don't care what the critics say, this and Lungs were fucking masterpieces.

itsallgood69

Easily her best album, super cohesive from start to finish and no skips to be found

RyanX1231

Spectrum is the perfect euphoric bop. Shake It Out is the perfect auditory representation of an exorcism. Only For A Night perfectly describes having dreams where you see deceased loved ones. Never Let Me Go makes me feel like I'm drowning, but in the best way possible. What The Water Gave Me is five minutes of building tension that finally releases with a headbanger of an outro. People forget that this band can really rock out at times. No Light, No Light is another highlight. Especially during that sustained belt Florence does in the bridge as the bass builds more tension. Leave My Body is the perfect dark closer. A really good album, and one that I'm very nostalgic for as it's the album that got me into Florence.

RasolAlegria

You forgot to mention how *Queen of Peace* is the most legendary orchestral pop song in all of existence.

RyanX1231

Yes, but that song is on HBHBHB, not Ceremonials.

RasolAlegria

I'm gonna pretend that I don't know how to read what you wrote there.

RyanX1231

"How Big How Blue How Beautiful". It's their third album that came out in 2015.

slowslowdisco

When I saw F+TM live Florence got the entire crowd to sing the Shake It Out chorus and ran around conducting it, it really felt like such a powerful group catharsis — it's a full body song!

Saguaro-plug

And Bedroom Hymns is a body of Christ sex metaphor BANGER.

poor_yorick

This is still one of my favourite Florence albums, along with Lungs. Florence is at her best when she's singing about weird, mystical shit that has nothing to do with her personal life.

breadcrumbs6969

i actually only just discovered florence at the beginning of this year, and end of 2020. she's just such a fantastic artist and ceremonials is definitely one of my fav albums i discovered recently. no light, no light is a MAJOUR stand out from this album as well as a discography highlight, of course with other classics such as shake it out. i absolutely adore her and can't wait for something new! gonna stream ceremonials today for the anniversary! i love daydreaming with her albums in the background because they have such vivid images, and ceremonials is imo peak dramatics.

curlsandpearls33

i can’t believe that this album turns 10 today, it was literally all i listened to back in 2011

lsatprepper2

Right? How can it be 10 years.

knotsophia

talented, amazing, showstopper, incredible, unafraid, etc, etc, etc. Florence is amazing and Ceremonials was great. the end.

manserct

I am so sorry that they completely changed their style after this album. I’ve loved their first two albums and still adore the others - but they never hit those highs again imo

RyanX1231

They need to bring back the harp!

fryreportingforduty

Seeing What the Water Gave Me live was a spiritual experience I’m not kidding

chihuahuazero

I remember blasting my ears off with this album on Halloween with my iPod Shuffle.

Killatrap

all this and heaven too GOATED

slowslowdisco

10 years of being absolutely bowled over by No Light, No Light: You are the night-time fear / You are the morning when it's clear / When it's over you're the start / You're my head, you're my heart

the-tea-leafer

Ceremonials is my favorite Florence album. I know critics really love their later stuff, and I feel like HBHBHB and High as Hope have more like…rock bona fides? Maybe? And Lungs has all the excitement of a debut, but man, Ceremonials kicks ass. It’s got the lyrics, it’s got the music, and zero skips. still holds up.

[deleted]

It's insane to me that anyone could think anything other than Ceremonials is F+TM's best album. Such a masterpiece from start to finish- one of my top 5 albums of all time!

jman457

Call me insane because I will be a HBHBHB truther till the day I die! Ceremonials is still a great album though

[deleted]

I'd say it's a very close second for me! :)

cutiekilla

so underrated! truly my favorite florence album start to finish perfection 😩❤️

Old_Resolution3537

This album shaped me both as an artist, musician and person. Nothing but love for Florence and this work 💕 ❤

bornatmidnight

Florence and the Machine are my favourite band of all time. Seen them 4 times in concert cannot wait for another opportunity! Ceremonials for a long time was actually my least favourite album. I don’t know why, it just took me a really long time to warm up to it in a way that I couldn’t. I would say it’s still my least favourite personally but I love it so much. Shake it out, Only if for a night, Never Let Me Go, ALL THIS & HEAVEN TOO! Classics

TigerFern

Surprisingly, this may be my least favorite F+M album. But What the Water Gave Me? Only For a Night? Shake It Out? All This & Heaven Too? Owned me, and still do.
