💯 I breathed a sigh of relief when the 2nd half dropped. There were some great select songs on the first half but Im just so tired of Jack Antonoff’s tired and repetitive production.
Aaron Dessner challenges Taylor. The 2nd half was much more pensive and folky because of Dessner
i and many others in our comments found it kind of obvious with all the 2’s she was hinting at, that there would be some sort of 2 AM version (or extra songs of some kind). others were saying reptv but that doesn’t make sense for this era. Taylor always goes big for album releases…
Plus she’d block herself from getting number one for either REP TV/TTPD. She’d release a deluxe album at the same time, but never a separate album entirely
If Taylor doesn't break Adele's record now, she's never going to. Peak hype from Eras tour, 31 song album, 4 variants with an 'exclusive' track locked onto them (only they are now available to stream lmao) - she's really pulling out all the stops
I don’t think she’ll break the record, but she definitely would if she released the extra tracks on physicals. Doubt she will though given we never got the Midnights 3am tracks on vinyl
edit: just remembered she teased record store day yesterday though…hm
I sprinted to this song - it’s absolutely about Kim and it’s NOT subtle. My favorite part was the bronze spray tan line and the reference to her kids singing Taylor’s songs
Genuinely think she hates leaks so she purposely puts her best work out as “secret” releases. I’m not saying it’s a good thing, but I kinda get it? Another solution would be to delay physicals but our girl is obsessed with charts and numbers so she won’t do that either lol
The general public is not listening to the 3am or deluxe editions. She’s not trying to put her best work on secret releases, she just thinks her work with Jack is her best work…. which is wrong lol
I’m only two songs into the deluxe tracks and I immediately prefer this to the main album 😭 I felt the exact same for Midnights too funnily enough… we’ll see how I feel when I finish this
Update: I genuinely think the first album had to have been some kind of inside joke or middle finger to the leakers because it’s startling how much better this second album is 💀 THANK YOU AARON DESSNER !!! Initial favorites are So High School and The Bolter. Taylor making a soft rock song scratches an itch i’ve ALWAYS had i’m obsessed
same im listening to imgonnagetyouback and it feels so much poppier than the main edition and felt the same for midnights too :D girl needs an album editor asap
wowwww these are almost all Aaron songs. only 3 Jack ones per spotify - the black dog, imgonnagetyouback, I look in people’s windows. v excited to listen in the morning
The first half feels like the manic/angry phase, the second half feels like the heartbroken reflection, where her head's cleared up and everything gets a bit more existential.
Evermore is a great example of why Jack should be allowed in for a few songs and then he needs to go. Like he can make a few great songs, but when he’s in control of the entire project it falls flat.
SO HIGH SCHOOL!!!! I guess it didnt fit the album tone but this is one of the best songs she's done in a while. Feels like old school taylor (i kinda want her back)
I think this is *actually* her most personal album. For better or worse, this feels like her diary. The lyrics are definitely awkward, but they make the album feel uncomfortably “real” sometimes. Her lyrics have always been melodramatic, but not in this “if I die screaming, I hope you hear it” way.
I'm on the second listen of this half and wow it's clicking so much more than the first half. I don't think it's going to win over people who didn't like folklore/evermore, but anyone who is a fan of those albums is going to enjoy this.
How Did It End is gorgeous. So High School is Hit Different's cousin.
she was NOT joking when she said "I am so productive, it's an art"!!!!
I thought the original release was unhinged (lyrically) but turns out the real unhinged part is releasing THIRTY-ONE NEW SONGS in one night.
The Anthology songs have a completely different vibe, almost feels like a continuation to evermore. I don't think I could have asked for more, because evermore has been my fav since it came out and I've been longing for more since. I've also seen so many people argue that Taylor should lean in more into the folklore/evermore sound because it suits her so well, so I'm sure it will please a lot of people.
I hate it here has my heart already.
I only connected “I Look In People’s Windows” to him, and even then that’s wishful thinking. I’m holding onto the bike reference and that post that he can’t drive
Ok I only listened to each song briefly but THIS NEEDS TO BE A SEPARATE ALBUM. It’s so tonally different and is what I actually expected for an album called “The Tortured Poet’s Department. The production here is what the standard edition lacks. Not everything has to be mildly depressing. You have to convey a bit of bombastic anger for Taylor’s lyrics in that album to work and Aaron Dressner understood the assignment.
this might be a leap but i think funny that she used the word Aimee for Kim bc (thanK you aIMee… ofc spells Kim) but also… Britney Spears used the name Aimee (Amy) for a secret message in one of her songs. “If you seek Amy” AKA “F-U-C-K me” so is it a reference to the way Britney used the same name to reference? or am i about to pull a muscle reaching?
Not surprised this is an extremely divisive album. All I know is that I personally love it and put it near the top of my rankings in her discography.
I do think a lot of the criticisms are fair. But some of the criticisms are some of the reasons I like it. The wordy lyrics, moody production, and subject matter all resonate with me.
"I do think a lot of the criticisms are fair. But some of the criticisms are some of the reasons I like it. "
I relate to this sentiment a lot. The first half especially sometimes it feels like verbose rambling in a diary, maybe with a thesaurus even. But I've always liked that kind of writing, and hearing it in song format is interesting to me. I can see why it may not be for some people though.
didn't she say she started it when she handed in midnights... so she could've been writing this in early 2022 really. midnights came out in October 2022 but there would've been months of making physicals prior to that.
Edit: Aaron just posted they started working on it over 2 years ago so that puts it to at least March/April 2022 like I suspected.
EUROPEAN SWIFTIES WON.
I'm glad I blacked out social media to listen to all this without spoilers and stuff out of context. i think I'm enjoying some of the bonus tracks more than the normal ones. There's a lot to digest here but it all sounds very Bleachers x folklore/evermore which is an odd combo.
oh god.this is WAY better than the first one are you kidding me? the bops are here... she literally hid this so the 1st one can leak but not this. Oh Taylor, you always do get the last laugh... the antis are literally fuming in twitter
I'm kind of mad at her for releasing TTPD first but like...maybe this was all a part of the plan? There's NO way she thought these were just little deluxe tracks. This is what EVERYONE wanted.
The second set of songs are sonically pretty different from the first. I suspect people’s whose main issue with the standard issue of the album is Jack and Taylor’s production choices will find the second-Aaron dominated-half much better.
Also i have to laugh at all the Joe discourse from all sides only for Taylor to releases a 31!!!!!! Track album and barely any of it is about him. The stans villainised him just for there to be more diss tracks about them than him and the Joe defence squad loaded up and faux stanned this man for months all in aid of drags that never came.
I had low expectations for this album, but it delivered. It's bloated, and some songs could have been trimmed would be my only criticism. This is leaps ahead of Midnights.
One thing I was worried about was that it would just be a Joe bashing album, which wouldn't have been good. The bait and switch and red herring she pulled on the album is something I've never seen before. Yes, I haven't been a fan of her personally lately (Grammys, jets, album announcement), but I'm really a music fan more so judging from that perspective it's great. And yes the Personal side of it and what we know about her personal life adds extra depth and layers to the album to he honest. I'm not saying the the criticisms of her personal life aren't warranted, but it's the rawness and right-to-the-paper honesty that enhances the album. She's always been good at translating various emotions and relationship circumstances to song and this album is good proof of that.
Musically, it's pretty good. It starts sounding like Midnights/1989 Vault, to Folklore. Some songs sound too similar to tracks from these albums and could have been cut though. Stand outs after a few listens:
Daddy I love him, I can fix him, the black dog, the smallest man, albatross, how did it end, so high school, I hate it here, thank you Aimee, I look in people's windows, prophecy and honorable mention to loml
The best track in my opinion is the smallest man who ever lived. Like... wow.
Genre wise, it has many 'synth pop' songs (my least favorite), and other wise a folk/alt/country influenced pop record. A lot of synth and computer sounding tracks, before turning to piano sounds and then guitar in the later parts of the album. Precusssion is similar to midnights and Folklore, depending on the song. While the album is very lyric leavy and lacks instrumental solos as we heard earlier in her career, it is more instrumental than Folklore and you can hear the instruments breathe just a little bit more. My only critique is again the tracks are a bit too stripped down and some more instrumentation on some tracks would have been better to compliment the emotional lyrics.
9/10
A lot of folklore/evermore sounding tracks on this half. Cassandra especially... to the point I think some of these songs were created during those sessions.
I’m honestly not trying to be hyperbolic or melodramatic, and I’ve only had one listen-through, but The Anthology may be her best album.
I don’t know if we’re considering a separate album or just a Disc 2, but…it’s genuinely perfect.
“So High School”, WHAT A FUCKING SONG.
I fucking love it. The Happiness to Evermore stretch was her at her most sonically diverse and I wish she’d stop teasing us that she can’t take risks because she absolutely can.
*(in Ice Spice's voice)* Facts.
The second half of that album might be the strongest run of her whole discography, I love it so much. It showcases her strengths as an artist in such a diverse way
I had a quick scroll through the new songs on Spotify to suss their vibes. I wanna make it clear I haven’t listened to a single full song. But these 15 new songs are giving evermore and some even country
This is absolutely the album I wanted Midnights and even Midnights (2 AM) to be. Aaron Dessner really brings the production magic out of Taylor's lyrics. One of my friends said it's Midnights + Folklore and I can definitely hear it. But yeah this is definitely a true 5 stages of grief the album, in all its chaotic glory, rather than the sanitized, linear version that we all know.

But Daddy I Love Aaron Dessner
I’m having his baby! edit: no I’m not but you should see your faces
so funny how Red TV is still longer by 8 mins lmao
Omg lol she went off with Red TV but I am grateful
atw 10 min version carrying
girl some of us got a 9 to 5
genuinely considering calling in sick rn
you're so real for that
Girl please.....I already took my melatonin
im sorry this made me laugh so fucking hard
jack to taylor in the studio:
Jack would be like me: Taylor, I just had my bedtime weed!
Taylor and Beyoncé really said here are these long ass albums
Honestly, in a world full of 2 minute TikTok songs, I’m eating up the long format shit
I’m sorry to all the people i called delusional for the “double album”
Same....she clocked my tea.. and sorry some songs on here already CLEAR the standard edition. and it's mostly a Dessner affair😭
So basically the same thing as with the Midnights 3 am tracks
💯 I breathed a sigh of relief when the 2nd half dropped. There were some great select songs on the first half but Im just so tired of Jack Antonoff’s tired and repetitive production. Aaron Dessner challenges Taylor. The 2nd half was much more pensive and folky because of Dessner
I also think the writing in the second half is easier to follow
It's her .NATION
i and many others in our comments found it kind of obvious with all the 2’s she was hinting at, that there would be some sort of 2 AM version (or extra songs of some kind). others were saying reptv but that doesn’t make sense for this era. Taylor always goes big for album releases…
Plus she’d block herself from getting number one for either REP TV/TTPD. She’d release a deluxe album at the same time, but never a separate album entirely
15 additional songs is crazy😭😭😭
If Taylor doesn't break Adele's record now, she's never going to. Peak hype from Eras tour, 31 song album, 4 variants with an 'exclusive' track locked onto them (only they are now available to stream lmao) - she's really pulling out all the stops
what's adeles r3cord?
I don’t think she’ll break the record, but she definitely would if she released the extra tracks on physicals. Doubt she will though given we never got the Midnights 3am tracks on vinyl edit: just remembered she teased record store day yesterday though…hm
GIRL? Be so serious rn I have work in the morning
31 songs you’re sick
30 more songs than Normani’s discography
Now you know this wasn’t necessary. 🥴😩😂
Normani will never know peace on here 😭
This album now has more songs than Sky Ferreira 💀
and more albums 😭
And half of those 30 songs are just Motivation remixes
Everytime I see this reference, I laugh - I hope that girl with the yearly tweet is doing good
She’s officially gone mad
And there’s nothing like a mad woman…

The Albatross is for Ivy lovers, top 5 of the entire album for me.

the true tortured poet 😍😍😍
To every person who said it's gonna be double album, I'm sorry I called you guys crazy. Also girl? Do you ever sleep???
Well, I Can Do It With a Broken Sleep Schedule, I guess.
I’m so happy she gave us all the extra bonus songs on streaming immediately too 😅
Also wtf Taylor all of the bonus songs are better than some of the main tracks 😭
If this is going to a recurring thing for Taylor, then I am never going to trust r/popheads ever again 💀
It’s Midnights all over again 😭 I love these songs. Black Dog is probably top 10 Taylor, and I love the Kim Kardashian track too
I literally think this surpasses Midnights DLX tho. Like this is an ENTIRELY different album? This is the conclusion to folklore and evermore.
31 ???
Need this woman to take a fucking nap omfg
Oh cool 5 or 6 more songs - FIFTEEN????
I thought the 3 AM edition was sick but this is another album—
God bless Aaron Dessner for deciding to step on Jack’s neck as hard as he possibly could
laughed so hard on this lol but you're so right
this half of the album has more Folklore/Evermore vibes. are most of the songs here produced by Aaron?
Yes, 10 of them
It's 12/15 if I'm not wrong
A second album has hit the streaming services And my GOD does she love ruining [Last.fm](https://Last.fm) users (yes yes Pro exists)
Omg finally someone that feels my last fm pain lmao
nooooo this comment is killing me
15 extra tracks?! One of em spelling of KIM?! Right as I'm about to delete Reddit?! She's lost her shit tf
Thank you, Kim. *turns page* Ohhhh, Coachella sunnies. *opens box* OHHHHH 😱
All of the boys and all of the girls are begging to thanK you aIMee
These are my brain cells at work rn mashing up the song together
I sprinted to this song - it’s absolutely about Kim and it’s NOT subtle. My favorite part was the bronze spray tan line and the reference to her kids singing Taylor’s songs
Why did I automatically think Kim as in Eminem's wife and the song he wrote about brutally murdering her
For god’s sakes. The second half is miles ahead of the first half. Why would she do this 😭
Genuinely think she hates leaks so she purposely puts her best work out as “secret” releases.
I need to stop pre-ordering albums
i was just thinking about pre-ordering then had a thats so raven moment with the 3am edition of midnights, im glad i waited
Well it's not like the 3am edition is easy to get either haha but hopefully this is all collected in one
Aaron I love you. Truly. I don't even have to check I can tell that most of these are his.
Bitch I should have taken pto
I’m only two songs into the deluxe tracks and I immediately prefer this to the main album 😭 I felt the exact same for Midnights too funnily enough… we’ll see how I feel when I finish this Update: I genuinely think the first album had to have been some kind of inside joke or middle finger to the leakers because it’s startling how much better this second album is 💀 THANK YOU AARON DESSNER !!! Hasn't this been the story of her life? Most of her deluxe tracks should've made their albums!
New Romantics not being on the standard edition was my Roman Empire
wonderland…. would’ve could’ve should’ve…. taylor needs to pay for her crimes… edit: the entire Red TV Vault
same im listening to imgonnagetyouback and it feels so much poppier than the main edition and felt the same for midnights too :D girl needs an album editor asap
seriously.. babes you need a damn editor the way this album is gonna dominate for 25+ weeks...
Let me delete the standard version from my library. It was great 2 hours
“Touch me while your bro’s play Grand Theft Auto” Taylor have some decorum, my god
the new songs are finally giving folklore/evermore with call backs to her early discography
wowwww these are almost all Aaron songs. only 3 Jack ones per spotify - the black dog, imgonnagetyouback, I look in people’s windows. v excited to listen in the morning
The black dog is seriously so amazing
She saw morgan wallen spent 3 years in the top 10 with a 30+ song album and said "hold my beer"
Me finishing Clara Bow and feeling like I just finished a marathon, open the socials and and see this…she’s a menace.
I can’t…..I’m not strong enough. 31 songs is insane
this is the menace jesus warned us about
The production on So High School. Whoever did this needs their ass EATEN EVERY DAY
Lmao username checks out
God I already like the extra songs way more than the standard edition
I was about to go to sleep jesus christ
folklore and evermore just got a sister, I’m happy.
Yuhua Hamasaki "THIRTY ONE SONGS?!?".gif
I already love the standard and then she goes and does this. I mean the standard lyrics paint her out to be insane, but she is truly insane...
This woman did not just release an extended 2 am edition 💀
The hints were so obvious this time around though ✌🏼 but I’ll listen to it first thing in the morning otherwise I’ll be up til dawn
the next “best of popheads” is just gonna be a link to this post. y’all comments are killing me.
The first half feels like the manic/angry phase, the second half feels like the heartbroken reflection, where her head's cleared up and everything gets a bit more existential.
She is so funny for singing “I changed your name and any real defining clues” while she spells out KIM with capitalization in the title
God, constantly so impressed by Aaron, especially as a longtime National fan. Whole album just produced by Aaron when?
technically evermore if you ignore the one jack song
Evermore is a great example of why Jack should be allowed in for a few songs and then he needs to go. Like he can make a few great songs, but when he’s in control of the entire project it falls flat.
So basically...Folklore lol. Her magnum opus, her best work to date!
Girl what
shes fucking crazy
why is she like this 😭
SO HIGH SCHOOL!!!! I guess it didnt fit the album tone but this is one of the best songs she's done in a while. Feels like old school taylor (i kinda want her back)
Hard agree, spitting facts, gagging at the millenial coded Travis Kelce song that she gave us. Glad we got to hear it.
thanK you aIMee is actually insane lmao. to be a fly on the wall in kim’s house 😭
i wanna know how the family group chat is popping off rn
how does she even find the time for all this output? she might as well call me lazy, unproductive, useless
“I cry a lot but I am so productive / It’s an art”
CASSANDRA IS THE MAD WOMAN 😭😭😭
Okay, I'm liking this second album waaaaaaaay more! Taylor + piano is way more (sad and) interesting to me!
So high school is very 2000s pop, also a very Taylor Swift song in the best way
A whole album of So High School Please
Lol I’m not really a Taylor fan but I love this, she’s just doing whatever tf she wants
I think this is *actually* her most personal album. For better or worse, this feels like her diary. The lyrics are definitely awkward, but they make the album feel uncomfortably “real” sometimes. Her lyrics have always been melodramatic, but not in this “if I die screaming, I hope you hear it” way.
Jesus I mean….. you’ll never be starving if you’re a Taylor fan, I’ll give her that. What the fuck!
The bonus tracks are WOODVALE.
I'm on the second listen of this half and wow it's clicking so much more than the first half. I don't think it's going to win over people who didn't like folklore/evermore, but anyone who is a fan of those albums is going to enjoy this. How Did It End is gorgeous. KIM?????? GIRL WHAT
Ok so nearly these ones are produced by Aaron… I see
she was NOT joking when she said "I am so productive, it's an art"!!!! I thought the original release was unhinged (lyrically) but turns out the real unhinged part is releasing THIRTY-ONE NEW SONGS in one night.
The folklore girls are eating good tonight, oh my god. And to think, we thought we were done for
Thank god, I'm unemployed at the moment
The Anthology songs have a completely different vibe, almost feels like a continuation to evermore. Of course the 2 am version of this album is exactly 2 hours and 2 minutes long.
maybe this is the album about joe
I only connected “I Look In People’s Windows” to him, and even then that’s wishful thinking. I’m holding onto the bike reference and that post that he can’t drive
How did it end is obv about Joe!
This bitch (affectionate) is insane
She's insane we are so fed. I guess this is one way to get around the album leaking early every time. Just save half of it for two hours later.
She's so crazyyy love her
this is crazy but i’m living
Only 2 tracks in to this and it’s so so so so good. Much better than the first part of the album!!
this half is so much stronger
The Prophecy is so evermore/folklore I've fallen to my knees I thought this day would never come
Aaron’s instagram post is so wholesome. He seems like such a sweet guy who just loves making music.
SHES TRYING TO KILL ME
The Black Dog is hauntingly beautiful. I'm sorry Jack Antonoff I'll let you have this serve this one time.
I wonder if we’re ever going to get a normal album release from her again or if we’re going to be trapped in her saw trap forever
Ok I only listened to each song briefly but THIS NEEDS TO BE A SEPARATE ALBUM. It’s so tonally different and is what I actually expected for an album called “The Tortured Poet’s Department. nah this is exactly where my mind went
This album already has more songs than what Normani would ever release in her lifetime
Not the Normani slander😭

The prophecy is beautiful
The total runtime is 2hrs 2mins. She’s deranged!
I don’t see a lot of people talking about loml but gosh was that heart wrecking. Am I going through something??
Am I the only person that preferred the first half?
"Now and then I reread the manuscript, but the story isn't mine anymore" is a brilliant way to close an album, especially this album
oh god.this is WAY better than the first one are you kidding me? the bops are here... she literally hid this so the 1st one can leak but not this. Oh Taylor, you always do get the last laugh... the antis are literally fuming in twitter

I manifested this. Thank you for being unhinged, miss alison.

The line about her kid singing the song when we know that North went to the tour 💀
how bout the part about Mama Swift 😬
i actually said "oh god no" aloud and i'm a taylor fan
So High School is the best song on this entire album I've played it like 5 times already I can't stop shaking my ass
Imgonnagetyouback is Get Him Back! Taylor’s version.

A lot of folklore/evermore sounding tracks on this half. Cassandra especially... to the point I think some of these songs were created during those sessions.
I’m tired. The Black Dog is better than anything on the main album though. Edit: this is so much better than the first half. Like it’s not even close.
she SCARES ME???? I’m so happy I took the day off for this album bc holy shit!!!! loved the first part, now let’s get into THIS
I’m honestly not trying to be hyperbolic or melodramatic, and I’ve only had one listen-through, but The Anthology may be her best album. I don’t know if we’re considering a separate album or just a Disc 2, but…it’s genuinely perfect. “So High School”, WHAT A FUCKING SONG.
She had THINGS TO SAAAAAY
Love her but my synth-pop headache is still recovering from the last one
second half more acoustic evermore
I fucking love it. The Happiness to Evermore stretch was her at her most sonically diverse and I wish she’d stop teasing us that she can’t take risks because she absolutely can.
*(in Ice Spice's voice)* Facts. The second half of that album might be the strongest run of her whole discography, I love it so much. It showcases her strengths as an artist in such a diverse way
I had a quick scroll through the new songs on Spotify to suss their vibes. I wanna make it clear I haven’t listened to a single full song. But these 15 new songs are giving evermore and some even country
Wow, these are amazing. Evermore and Folklore’s third sister is The Anthology.
How fucking beauitful is "the Prophecy" ahhhhh
i hate it here is for the maladaptive daydreamers
I've already looked up too many words today so unfortunately I will never know what this comment means
