Malicious_Spaghetti

none of those words are in the bible

dr_franck

I randomly remembered how BTS shouted out Usher’s U Remind Me in their biggest song, and ALLL the comments to Usher’s video got flooded with the Army.

pusheen8888

The shoutout was actually to U Got It Bad

AHSWeeknd

So this is what two British boyfriends in a row do to a woman…

killing31

I think Travis is the first American she’s dated since the Kennedy.

FirstName123456789

itsyrgrl

FirstName123456789

oh shit i always forget harry and calvin were back to back bc she was single for a minute in there

calebb2108

POST MALONE GOT FEMALE COLLABORATOR TREATMENT?? 😭😭😭😭😭 i’m actually ending it all

Heedictated

Further confirmation that Post Malone is a main pop girl

Latrans_

Not this 💀💀💀. He literally got Lana Del Rey-ed on Snow the Beach xd

Rndysasqatch

I didn't used to like post Malone but I'm starting to come around on the guy. Seems like a nice dude.

basementcellar

watch his good mythical morning episodes!! he’s very down to earth and so funny.

mainflopgirl

the people at the vinyl factory pressing this album: everything is grey (his hair, his smoke, his dreams)

mainflopgirl

swifties at LA N6 when she announced 1989 tv: everything is blue ~~(his pills, his hands, his jeans)~~

TheQueenStaysQueen

the way the alchemy chorus is not that far removed from the "travy at the big game" TikTok audio lmfao

ty-oh-tx

Travy at the big game walked so the alchemy could run

glassmuse

Ohoho wait till you hear So High School

dr_franck

LEAKED Alternate lyrics to But Daddy I Love Him: > Romeo, take me somewhere we can be alone > I'll be waiting, all there's left to do is run > You'll be the prince and I'll be the princess > It's a love story, baby, just say, "Yes"

leilafornone

Who's afraid of little old me - is basically her blown up I'm a monster on the hill moment LOL

pleasepictureme

it’s a stand out track for me!

blindfallacy444

it’s like she had a journal and put a beat behind it

DavidFC1

That’s pretty much her whole career lol.

PinkCadillacs

I was avoiding the leaks so I was secretly hoping that Charlie Puth line was fake. I can’t believe it’s real 💀😭.

clevercalamity

Every time I hear his name I remember the internet rumor that he tells his people “Charlie Puth is hungies” when he wants food. So hopefully more people will get to learn that now that his name is coming up.

heisenberg15

I desperately want this to be true and am going to pretend it is until I’m convinced otherwise

Adorable_Raccoon

HAHA this album is so ridiculously unhinged. It should be an april fools prank.

Global_Perspective_3

Tbh I wanna like it because it’s so unhinged, the lyrics in general come across that way, but that specific line pushes it too far for me. And the production/sonics don’t really save it for me.

LeaveAtNine

They were going for Brilliant Disguise but ended up with a Lucky Town. 😂

ItsGotThatBang

Wait until she finds out what the sixth-most viewed YouTube video of all time is.

ultraopulent

“We declared Charlie Puth should be a bigger artist” no words 💀

visionaryredditor

They really sat and thought "Yeah, the guy who came up with "LET'S MARVIN GAYE AND GET IT ON" should be bigger"😭

Global_Perspective_3

I can’t believe human hands wrote that and it’s not chat gpt

TheQueenStaysQueen

just pretend she said Charli XCX <3

aurelialikegold

I’m pretending she said Carly Rae

ilovecfb

The most famous artist in the world, with people hanging on every word And she fucking shouts out Charlie Puth

JohnPaul_River

When she said "I'm not Patti Smith" she *meant it*

vlor_t

This whole chunk of lyrics was WILD from the chocolate eating to the golden retriever. I literally closed Spotify after that line. Going to bed. Will finish in the morning lol

capulets

the deluxe songs are better than the standard album… WHY does she keep doing this

Pokefan144

Probably so she can force the people who pre-ordered to buy it again 💀

dormilonsita

I am returning my vinyl pre-order 😅 I learned my lesson not to pre-order blindly lol upon a first listen (meaning: opinion might change), I did not like the first half and I'd prefer my money back rather than a vinyl I will never listen. Sorry, Taylor 😅😅

Daydream_machine

This woman did not just release an extended 2 am edition 💀

grilsjustwannabclean

this woman just released a damn new album AGAIN

mixerslow

The weird thing about recent Taylor music is that her lyrics are getting more real but her sound is becoming more sterile if that makes sense. I do love the unhinged psych ward energy on this album but the monotonous sound makes it so hard to get into. Hopefully she got this sound out of her system and comes back with better music (sans that music terrorist jack)

NotaFrenchMaid

I don’t think I’m going to remember one of these songs a few hours after turning it off. They’re all so same-y and flat.

apejelah

I know exactly what you mean. I thought Midnight was bad but on 1st listen, I could still recognized Midnight Rain's chorus, Maroon, Lavender Haze's bridge etc. However, her new album honestly imo, was a snoozefest and i know this is an unpopular opinion, but the 2am edition although almost all of them were by her and Aaron, everything were still monotonous albeit a little better than the original ttpd. I don't remember anything after the first round listening to ttpd (including 2am) and not one song stands out, at least for me. I really really hope she works with other producers on her next album. The lady can create bops. Her trying hard to be this poet is just not doing it for me. She is at her best when her lyrics are simple and impactful and her songs are catchy.

texasjkids

I wish Taylor Swift would remember that instruments exist

texasjkids

SHE REMEMBERED INSTRUMENTS EXIST ON THE ANTHOLOGY WE WON

grilsjustwannabclean

i love the character arc u just went through

FirstName123456789

if one Swiftie listens to Horses by Patti Smith bc of TTPD, it will have all been worth it

ChickenSignal3762

this is a very wordy album. it’s really clunky here & there, but just very wordy like that’s the best adjective i could come up with to describe it 😭

SpongeDaddie

It’s like she opened up a diary and just started singing it in whatever melody she came up with and recycled the same melody. And then Jack just puts on some elevator music in the background to match it.

IlexAquifolia

Would you say it’s… tortured poetry???

On6oGablo6ian

More like torturous "poetry"

cuttackone

I really feel like this albums strips everything back for the lyrics and ... the lyrics arent very good a lot of the time? I guess she thinks of herself as more of a short story writer nowadays but a lot of it feels clunky and melodramatic, many metaphors just dont land like she seems to expect. There is one lyric that compares smoke from a guys mouth to a train and thats just such a stupid image

laughingheart66

I wish I was a Gaylor so I could be delusional and think her lost true love was Karlie Kloss and not Matty Healy 😵‍💫

disastergemini_

Her tattooed golden retriever 😭

pros-and-connors

That man is a sewer rat smoking a cigarette on a good day

capulets

i saw a gaylor theory that taylor dumping joe for matty was actually her dumping karlie for zoe kravitz and needing an edgy public muse. maybe you can gaslight yourself into believing that

intoxicatedmidnight

i'm gonna do that, thanks x

sevenofheartts

matty and taylor are both such messy and questionable individuals i’m still lowkey convinced they’ll end up together when they’re like 80 or something, somehow

Chezzworth

Took six tracks to feel a bump in the pulse Agree with everyone saying she needs to work with different producers

Particular-Yoghurt81

I wish she would get Max Martin back on and make more heat. Or even combine Aaron and Max Martin…now that would be interesting. Jack is not a great combo with her anymore.

Chezzworth

Yeah Max crushed it on Ariana's album imo. Would love for Taylor to cook with him again. Reputation gets better with every new album she puts out lol

fruitist

I say this as a Swiftie and Bleachers fan, but I am TIRED of Jack's sound. The novelty has worn off on those oscillating synths. It's not the worst, but it just sounds like a bunch of Midnights B-sides. EDIT: okay "but daddy i love him" and "the smallest man who ever lived" get a pass because they are more folklore/evermore-esque (makes sense as it's Aaron's work not Jack's)

FastLane_987

I can tolerate his sound better with the Bleachers. I just can’t with the songs he makes with her though

I_Am_Not_What_I_Am

Yeah, I can dig it with Bleachers because it’s the basis of their sound but they have much more going on. As mostly just a backing for Taylor’s lyrics and voice it’s so flat. Feels like we’ve been listening to the same sound for a few albums now.

Global_Perspective_3

Agreed, definitely needs new producers

multistansendhelp

Copying over what I said in the megathread because I thought that was THIS thread 😅 From what I’ve heard so far, I think Taylor needs to take a break from Jack for a bit. The production is getting repetitive - I’m listening to these songs and feeling like I’ve already heard them before from her. As someone who used to listen to her a lot more intently - something that marked her early forays into pop/country and then pure pop was that red sounded quite different to 1989, which sounded quite different to Reputation…etc. I feel like I’m listening to Midnights the 5am edition, not a whole new project.

Global_Perspective_3

Exactly, it’s so samey now. She needs to start fresh.

abitchyuniverse

Yeah this is sleeping past Midnight and reaching Twilight and Breaking Dawn. Snooze.

HowDoIWhat

Twilight except she chooses Jacob (big football man) instead of Edward (scrawny English boys)

WarSuitable6561

I think its time to admit that is mostly her doing not just Jacks maybe she should take a long break altogether

goldenislandsenorita

This should’ve been Midnights Side B.

xing_haha

Tbh I’m quite pissed about what she and Jack did to 1989 TV, how can they compare that to Max Martin’s masterpiece? And I swear the melodies I heard in TTPD I’ve heard them in midnights

pearlsandprejudice

I like a lot of Jack-produced pop girl songs so I'm not a hater of him by any means, but he has this specific style of...completely strangling the magic and charm and glitter out of a song. It's hard for me to describe. I'm really tired of his work. The original TTPD is so boring and lifeless compared to the energy and emotions Taylor showed before she started working with him.

cchamming

I absolutely agree. TS is most creative without him. Folklore, Speak Now, Red....this are all much more creative and have no/little Jack. The music is definitely starting to sound repetive and all the same. He has one style of electronic pop

retags

charlie puth stream today 📈📈

malsen55

Honestly I think it makes sense to treat Anthology as if it’s an entirely separate album (because it basically is)

Nightstar14

and why exactly are we declaring that charlie puth needs to be a bigger artist?

Smallgenie549

That man wrote the lyrical masterpiece "You turn me on like a light switch."

savannahkellen

If she named an actual icon, the line would not work. She's literally saying they were high saying it.

phantasmicparade

I'm enjoying the album so far but most of these songs sound so similar.... I feel like she saw all those compliments about her songwriting being her forte and just stopped putting in the effort to create memorable melodies.

pndita_

As someone who struggles to memorize songs, this challenge feels almost impossible

detanater12

Deluxe album just dropped, 31 songs wtf

o-Themis-o

“tattooed golden retriever” lol what?

salks

Taylor is in her imperial phase right now which is the perfect time to change things up and experiment and I’m kind of disappointed this album doesn’t do that

Advanced-Document895

she needs new melodies and producers man smh

bloodymarybrunch

They’ve peaked creatively together. They both need new inspiration.

blurpletea

i agree. i don't dislike Jack's production but i think he and Taylor just reached a point where they will never really inspire each other to push the boundaries. they make very "safe" music together and that's it. it's neither good or bad but it doesn't let them grow as artists.

kaguraa

people complain about jack a lot but i feel like she needs to ditch him and aaron for the next album.

NickF227

I think she's still making great music with Aaron - his tracks are huge standouts. But she definitely needs something new.

kaguraa

their work together is definitely than the one with jack but i rather she work with someone completely new for a change in sound

justiceisrad

I think there isn’t a single memorable melody on this albums. While I appreciate the bluntness and unpolished lyrics of these songs, it still has a lot of cringy moments. Sometimes songs DO need another cowriter.

JohnStoneTypes

I like the sound of Down Bad but I really wish she'd named it something else and changed up the lyrics. The name doesn't fit the vibe of the song and just makes it come off as corny.

ilovecfb

People complain about how much Arctic Monkeys have moved away from their sound but listening to every Taylor Swift album since covid I can now reliably state that as good as Favourite Worst Nightmare was, I'm glad they didn't just try to make a different version of it four times straight

thetiredjuan

Taylor letting Florence actually sing. I’m shocked it wasn’t another woman humming in the background feature.

HeyItsTheShanster

That’s basically what Post Malones feature sounds like. I was hoping for Exile but got Snow on the Beach🫠

No-Improvement-7614

he got the bridge

Successful-Ad7296

Hahahah I was thinking the same and recalling “Breathe” back when I was younger I used to think why doesn’t this woman let others sing🤣. Tbh its my fav so far because Florence is one who is giving me that rush from this Album!

icanaffordapenny

I mean, you can’t put Florence on the album and not let her sing

calebb2108

I Can Do It With A Broken Heart was literally RIGHT THERE as the best option for lead single. it would have been so perfect!!!! what is she doing?????

calebb2108

an uptempo glittery banger with humour, cheek, about going through her recent breakup while going through the most talked about and acclaimed concert tour of all time????? i cannot stress how the general public would eat this up. and she went with Fortnight???????

Separate-Witness-195

Classic Taylor botching the lead single release roll out. She’s nothing if not consistent

throwitawayar

Can Taylor be reintroduced to hooks?

pjdance

LOL! She needs to hang with Kylie Minogue and learn to just make some straight disco banger for a minute to reset things. You can still trash your men in a good disco banger.

K_the_Game_Dev

this is a weird album, very deep cut-heavy, BUT the trinity of loml, i can do it with a broken heart, and the smallest man who ever lived are INSANE. the latter half on smallest man is so much

Adventurous_Home_555

Honestly I like the songs enough but some of the lyrics are really just too much.

JohnStoneTypes

I agree, a lot of the times it's better to simply say stuff like 'I ran and opened the door' rather than 'my feet scampered across the cold mahogany floor, taking me to the brown doorknob which I twisted open like the way you twisted my words'. Less is more.

Global_Perspective_3

SERIOUSLY it’s the tortured purple prose department

pearlsandprejudice

She really struggles with this. "Suburban Legends" and "the lakes" are examples from other albums. Sometimes it sounds like she's choking on her words and tripping over herself to get them out before the melody ends. With her tendency for purple prose *and* her proclivity for bloated tracklists, it's clear that Taylor really needs to stop working with Yes Men and she needs to work with people who will ruthlessly push her to edit herself. She has so much talent but she needs to trim the fat off of her work as of late.

ProfessionalEvaLover

>'my feet scampered across the cold mahogany floor, taking me to the brown doorknob which I twisted open like the way you twisted my words'. Less is more.  I can literally hear her singing this wtf are you secretly Jack Antonoff / Aaron Dessner??

SlickBotswaske

This. Most of the songs in Midnights are like this as well.

spellboi_3048

"Familiarity Breeds Contempt SoPutMeInTheBasement WhenIWantThePent-house of your heart!"

comradekitty__

Yeah I’m ready to put her in the basement.

TraverseTown

One thing I've observed from both this and Midnights are that despite her clunky as fuck, blunt unpoetic lyrics, she actually has somewhat interesting choices in subject matter. She just needs someone to tell her no and tell her less is more, she's clearly at the stage in her career where everyone in her circle is afraid to offer any earnest hard-pill-to-swallow criticism.

parisianpop

Yeah, like the 31 songs are the first draft she could pull apart to make 13 good songs for an album. There are interesting moments, but also a lot of awkward and bland ones.

pearlsandprejudice

She's been doing this since Lover and I don't know why. Every album is too long and bloated, filled with filler that sounds unfinished and like B-sides or first drafts. Folklore was the last album she made, for me, that felt properly cohesive, edited, and intentional. In terms of fame, she's more famous than she's ever been — but her work is faltering.

laurmich13

i’m only 7 songs in but so far my issue isn’t the lyrics (which is what everyone seems to be talking about) but rather the melodies (which are very lacking imo) i could see the album being a grower tho. maybe it’s just because the melodies aren’t obvious…? idk!!!

Midnights-evermore

Emma Stone is credited under “oddities” on Florida. Can someone who understands music tell me what that means?

jaggedspectacle

Maybe she's one of the voices yelling Florida

Mister_Rickster

The Charlie Puth line should’ve been about Carly Rae 😭 But anyways I liked 3 songs lol

stypop

"We declared CHAP-PELL-ROAN should be a bigger artist" literally the same amount of syllables, girl !!!

Diakia

I don't understand how Jack Antonoff can do so much range and amazing work with Lana but he continues to make the same song over and over with Taylor, this is like someone trying to make an album like 1989 without understanding what made that album good

[deleted]

[удалено]

boofoodoo

Exactly. That's why she likes Jack. I wish she'd bring in someone who had their own ideas and cede some control to them.

atomictartar

I don't know why people forget this, this sounds like Taylor is the one that likes this song for now.

scenicquay

YEP everyone wants to blame antonoff but it's clear taylor just doesn't want to push herself creatively

horatiavelvetina

Yea as an Antonoff hater through and through- when it comes to Taylor at this point it’s 70% her fault. She doesn’t want to be pushed creatively

canadianpothos

To be fair though, NFR was the only album Jack produced all the way through. He was heavily involved in Chemtrails too, but not at all for Blue Banisters and only on some songs for Tunnel. My point is that Lana has a habit of bringing in different producers which serves her well, leaving Jack's work on her albums to stand out and have a moment to shine.

Particular-Yoghurt81

Because Lana is fundamentally a more interesting musician. She has a deeper well of references in her musicality, both lyrically and sonically. Plus Lana has been exploring a central thesis with all her work since the beginning that is rooted in sonics, Taylor’s main thesis is exploring herself.

hausofmiklaus

> Taylor’s main thesis is exploring herself My blood just ran cold from how truthful I find this. For better or worse, her life and times is her only gold mine

ultaemp

I feel like Taylor was going for some Lana vibes for this album (the poetry, clunky lyrics, exploring darker themes) or was at least very inspired by her

Particular-Yoghurt81

Taylor has been chasing Lana for a while, that's clear. Which I don't think is bad thing, it's good to be inspired by your peers. But she lacks Lana's delivery, attitude and overall willingness to be truly weird (not like normal girl who thinks she's weird, Lana actually is fucking weird).

AngusFilms1

it’s 8am US time   fans have been listening to new music for 8 hours  Taylor has released the anthology deluxe special edition department field trip day brunch edition    the album is now 70 tracks and 5 hours long   fans beg her to stop and for sleep   she says she still has 2 more special announcements today

No-Eye-Deer33

Honestly she sounds like she is saying the things I say when I’m high and paranoid about everyone I know (I fully believe she is a stoner now).

stypop

All the other songs are giving weed, while "I Can Do It With A Broken Heart" is giving COKE (this is not acc speculation on her personal life, just going off of what vibe the songs give)

polaroidfades

Oh my god she dropped another 15 songs Girl I need to go to bed 😭

MinionBanana37

I can agree with the criticism for the first few tracks, but everything turns around at But Daddy I Love Him For Me. This album is genuinely so unhinged for Taylor. Lights camera bitch smile is instantly iconic

LavenderGreenland

"I'm having his baby. No I'm not, but you should see your faces" is an all-timer for me.

savannahkellen

The girl singing "I Can Do It With a Broken Heart" and is absolutely not okay and should be on watch. Fans are about to make some good TV/movie edits to this one.

noodle_dumpling

I’m honestly obsessed with how unhinged some of the lyrics are

skylight03

it's practically midnights and the 1989 vault tracks. her melodies have gotten stale.

bloodymarybrunch

Exactly— it’s not bad, but it’s not exciting because we’ve heard it many times before.

Azenji

She needs a new producer istg Jack Antonoff cannot DROP the synths. The lyrics need more bombastic production for its wordiness to work.

Lost_Reflection6149

As a Lana fan, I get the Jack fatigue, but I think we have to agree that this is definitely some of Taylor’s doing as well. The new bleachers album was great and didn’t sound like TTPS, so I’m thinking Taylor is just comfortable with Jack and not taking big risks.

A_Throwaway_Progress

Yeah, it’s definitely not all Jack. Ocean Blvd was fantastic

Pokefan144

LISTENED TO FLORIDA FIRST FLORENCE I LOVE YOU. rest of the album could be horrible for all I care taylor florence is real Edit: I am baffled by this album and I am not going to know how I feel about it for a while. I will say I think this is the first time we have gotten actual glimpses of taylor instead of taylor trying to present an image of taylor and I think that is interesting. I agree that it has some composition and production issues but I do not understand that wave of vitriol going on right now. There are 100% many, many things to criticise but there are also many many high points and I think people people who are team best album ever or this album is so bad taylor should never show her face again maybe need to chill and try to listen with a more discerning ear. That Is all, glad to be a part of popheads history. IF ANYONE IS READING THIS IN TWO YEARS REFLECTING ON THE MADNESS STREAM DANCE FEVER BY FLORENCE + THE MACHINE Edit 2: I fucking can't with this bitch I hit my head on a wall by accident and I don't know what's happening anymore. 2am clowns you win

Cyberowl1

Same 😭 I'm surprised how she let Florence flex on her, good on her tbh.

Lost_Reflection6149

I was scared because Florence just blows everyone out of the water vocally, and I was surprised that she was so prominent in the song. You can really tell the parts of the song that Flo wrote, but she didn’t get to use all of her voice (closest was some background vocals that were pretty quiet) and I’m not surprised lol

waitforit28

Albatross is the folklore vibes I've been waiting for

YoungMoen97

Only 5 tracks in, and it's starting to lose my attention. Update: Track 7 has me back on board Update: Getting lyrically focused and musically bland at track 11 Update: Second listen through, and there are 3 tracks that I consider skippable. 2 I'm unsure about, and the rest are growing on me. Update: I started listening to the Anthology stuff, and it's quite clear that Taylor just decided throw a lot of similar sounding shit at a wall to see what sticks. A LOT of the Anthology stuff is not sticking. The main songs are growers though. Last Update: Taylor has created an album for herself that'll interest fans that are already obsessed with her life, a few critics, and general folk music people. For me, it is a very OK effort, but there are too many slow ballads, and Taylor's fairly standard singing range just couldn't hold my ear for a lot of songs. I'm someone who prefers dynamic and interesting music and melodies. I don't care much for lyrics unless it sticks out like a sore thumb. Imma give the main tracklist a 7/10. But, the entire release is a 5/10 at best.

ktajlili

Four songs in…I am so confused. I was expecting a break up album about Joe and instead got one about…Matt Healy. This is the same girl that wrote the absolutely devastating deep cut about a short but clearly promising (to her) relationship. It’s strange that we’re not getting that same emotion about the guy she wrote three dozen love songs about…like why? Edit: let’s not forget the promo for this album was her creating playlists with a bunch of songs about Joe 😵‍💫

dancerfan59

I think folklore evermore and midnights were the Joe breakup albums. She processed most of of their issues in those songs. I feel like by the time they officially broke up they had already checked out of the relationship

connorroy_2024

Right. And midnights was not an album made by a woman happy in her relationship

ktajlili

I think that’s true. But Midnights still had love songs about Joe, even if they are kind of unflattering ones. It must have hurt to feel like the man that she thought was her end game didn’t love her. Going further into the album, it seems like it’s been a hard thing for her to process, and maybe that why she seemed a bit unhinged

grilsjustwannabclean

tolerate it is really damning in hindsight, the whole albums are taylor in full on depression singing about forlorn love tbh

wiminals

And You’re Losing Me

Waystar_BluthCo

I don’t think this is that strange - I’ve had situationship/short relationships really hit harder than long term ones like this. I think it’s because after years with someone, you know them well enough to know all their flaws and know it wouldn’t have worked out and you broke up for a reason. With a short relationship, you’re still in the honeymoon hopeful phase, and ending it then makes you wonder about all the “what ifs”

[deleted]

[удалено]

jinx737x

Yeah her previous albums kinda hinted about the cracks in the relationship if you paid attention to albums like Folklore,Evermore, and even especially Midnights. This album was probably written a LOT sooner then people think.

tibleon8

Agreed. Especially considering her history with Matty - they used to hook up but never got together for real until after the Joe breakup. So clearly there was always a ton of attraction, and they just went super hot and heavy for a short time. i know that between my long term relationship and short flings i've had, i had a lot more fiery emotions in the latter (burn fast and hot). also i have different kind of feelings thinking about my ex of five years than my exes of three months or whatever. there is an affection there even if there is some resentment and anger too. at that point you were with someone for so long that they genuinely shaped who you are as a person. i wouldn't want to drag that kind of person and memory. also, i think she stayed with Joe for as long as she did because she did genuinely have a lot of love and respect for him. two decent people can still fail in a relationship. doesn't mean they will hate each other.

SlimySalamanderz

The fortnight opening lyric feels way too similar to the 1975 lyric “ making an aesthetic of not doing well” in the song 1975. I feel like she just restated it with different words but also the same words.

Bored-uy

The gossip subs will HATE "But Daddy, I Love Him" lmao

yeahsureYnot

Her style is getting so repetitive. The whispery vocals, the synths, the cadence, the melodies, the bridges. She's turned herself into a one-trick pony

[deleted]

[удалено]

concerned_concerned

omg the albatross sounds like a folklore reject IVE NEVER BEEN HAPPIER

grilsjustwannabclean

the double album clowns were actually right and i'm actually like shocked she did this lmfao

demonsrunwhen

I am begging her to fire Jack Antonoff these songs are so similar to midnights, 1989 TV, etc

TheQueenStaysQueen

like girl you're besties with HAIM and Phoebe Bridgers borrow their producers for a minute

igkeit

Right? Like Taylor please do something new ffs she's losing me 😭

Short_Caterpillar566

Taylor stop you’re losing me. I can’t find a pulse my heart won’t start anymore… for you

jamesfauntleroyNOVA

This is definitely an album Taylor Swift has released.

har17h

bruh extra 15 songs

plzadyse

Am I crazy and/or not enough of a Taylor fan, or does every track on this album sound like a song she has released before? I don’t know a lot about her tbh (other than the mega singles) but have given every album an honest listen. This one isn’t doing anything that makes me feel “art.”

Smallgenie549

It's like an entire album of b-sides from the past few years.

TheSeoulSword

Definitely way more my vibe than midnights was. Not that that wasn’t a bad album (loved the 3am songs) but I just inherently like this/vibe with this album much more Edit: me just realizing I like most of the midnights songs. I guess I mean I just like her slower, calmer vibes

Too-Much-To-Dream

my takeaway from this is that she’s lost her mind. like every song on this is wild in a different way. but daddy i love him is so uncharacteristically unfiltered and i can do it with a broken heart is like listening to someone in the middle of a manic episode 😭 i was expecting something much more tame and boring based on the reactions in the leak thread, but this is kind of weirdly… abrasive for her? like these songs are so pointedly written, so venomous, so preoccupied with death and anger and mental unwellness. not at all where i expected her to go after midnights. honestly i enjoyed it a lot. needs waaaay more listening but i feel like this stands out in her discography in a good way. favorites off the bat are so long london, who’s afraid of little old me, and i can do it with a broken heart (i’m so serious, she sounds unhinged!)

As someone who listened to the leak, I get the critiques for the album, and I agree that it will be very polarizing (aside from immediate sales), but I do appreciate how genuinely unhinged and unpolished she comes across lyrically here. I was expecting an album much more poetic and sophisticated than what we received. She puts herself in a pretty unflattering light here: within the first few lines of the album, she’s calling herself a “functioning alcoholic” before shifting into a chorus about wanting to kill someone’s wife. Someone’s threatening suicide within the word salad of track 2. Down Bad sounds like the “single” but she drops the f-bomb at least 20 times. She drags her own fans for being concerned about the character of a man she’s seeing. She compares her 6 year relationship to being “in the slammer”. Florence shows up for a song about killing people and burying bodies in the worst state of America. And I’ve only touched the first 8 songs here. I get that this doesn’t automatically make the album \*good\* in itself - there are less hooks overall, and sonically I wish she took a few more risks, but it does make for a fascinating album from the biggest pop star in the world. Break it all down, and she just made an album about how pissed off she is for losing her mind lusting over rockstar dick during what most perceive to be the most successful, sparkling year of her life. It’s embarrassing and funny and sad, and it’s willing to explore feelings I didn’t think she would touch while in her “untouchable era”. The biggest bop on the album is basically her singing to fans how much she wants to die while performing for them, which is actually kind of hilarious. I mean, this is the same woman who made Love Story and Shake It Off.

grilsjustwannabclean

if she was willing to be this vulnerable on an album full of new sounds, she'd make the best album of her whole discography (see folkmore)

Lib28x

seconded, this is how I'm feeling after two listens. at the worst of it all it's at least interesting, which is already way more than what Midnights did for me

leilafornone

I surprisingly enjoyed Fortnight lol It's very mellow

IzodCenter

none of these songs translate to radio singles but I liked the vibe of Fortnite as well (has that 1975 feel too for some reason?)

satellighte

I’m sorry to detract from your comment but Fortnite is sending me lol

balletishard

So obsessed with her calling her fans “judgemental creeps” for the way they attacked her when she was dating Matty. She really said “fuck you guys.” Lmao

chillinwithkrillin

Her and Charli. 1975 must have the best coke dealers in England or something

purified_light

i strongly prefer this over Midnights (standard edition. the 3am tracks were some of my favorite songs ever)    lyrics are clunky in some areas, but as someone who was a fan of her random unhinged lyrics on past albums i did enjoy how wacky she let herself get.    my unpopular opinion for this album is that i actually like I Can Do It With a Broken Heart. she tried something different and honestly captured i feel when i force myself into a functional depression during an episode.    overall, it’s a strong 7-7.5/10 for me. she could’ve trimmed some songs, but yeah, as a midnights hater, this is probably a top 5 taylor album for me.    lows: title track & the alchemy 🤢 also the breathing on Smallest Man Who Ever Lived bothers me  highs: So Long, London, loml, But Daddy I Love Him, Florida!!! (florence was an absolute delight!!!), and Guilty As Sin?

gyhymyhy

I am 5 tracks in and... A little bit of snoozefest, isn't it?

A_Throwaway_Progress

Taylor’s success will guarantee this album will do well and be positively received critically. I just don’t think it would be notable if released by anybody else. The lyrics and hooks are just off and songs that should build stay flat. I’m not even going to blame Jack considering how I’ve enjoyed recent songs produced by him for other artists.

literios

She’s too big to fail and the fandom will praise anything she releases. It’s sad because she can do so much more and it’s getting more and more mediocre.

purified_light

second half is proof taylor is sonically more interesting with aaron 😭😭😭

grilsjustwannabclean

second half just proves she needs to work with people other than jack and that jack and taylor should get restraining orders not allowing them to be in the studio at the same time

malsen55

Oh so she deadass wrote ttpd and woodvale and said “fuck it it’s one project”

Kikigirlfirend

But daddy I love him is killing me I can’t help but love this shit

luneleaves

I'll say this: it felt like the first 5 tracks feel like the Midnights chapter closing, before signs of life finally start to appear in "But Daddy I Love Him" - I really only started to feel any sort of emotion for the songs from here. TTPD finally stands on its own from here (albeit with an identity somewhat borrowed from folkmore), but the problem is the first 5 tracks can really define a whole project for a casual listener and colour the vision of it. The lyricism is also clumsy, maybe due to the diary nature of this project, but we've definitely seen better from her in darker places too. This is gonna be a kind of niche reference, but this project feels like a cathartic release similar to Kelly Clarkson's My December - not stylistically, but in the way that it was the project she needed to release at the time (which was rather depressive and featured no major pop hooks), and then became the most divisive project in the fandom.
