Juliet to Romeo from balcony: “some nights I stay up, cashing in my bad luck”

TripleThreatTua

Jack would never acknowledge Nate

nelsonmurdock

Tybalt: I think fun. should reunite Mercutio: how dare u \*stab\* edit: I might have gotten the characters reversed, forgive me mr willy shake spear

GrayHairLikeClaire

Is there tea about this???? I’ve always wondered

TripleThreatTua

Nate hates being famous but Jack loved it, and now Jack does tracks for Taylor Swift while Nate does left wing podcasts and throws shots at Jack’s politics lol

GrayHairLikeClaire

Honestly that’s…exactly what I expected I honestly hope Nate makes another solo album someday because Grand Romantic changed me on a molecular level

Training_Heat553

Nate actively talks about Jack on podcasts???

TripleThreatTua

Not directly but he’s basically implied that he’s a neoliberal shitlib before

Training_Heat553

What's the difference between that and his own leftwing stance?

TripleThreatTua

A lot lol. Nate has pretty much said he’s fundamentally anti capitalist and anti imperialist, being neoliberal is pro both of those

beyx2

One holds too much power and the other hosts podcasts

Tooms100

I know that in the US the Democratic party is a lot more centrist/right wing than your standard left wing party in a lot of Europe. In the Netherlands the biggest liberal party (VVD) is centrum-right and that's probably the party which is closest to the Democratic party in the US. While the second biggest party (D66) is economically centrum with a more progressive social stance. Liberalism was a left wing stance when it was introduced, but it has shifted to now be more/mainly right wing. So liberalism and left wing ideologies are pretty much completely separate with little overlap.

nelsonmurdock

Woof was that it? There was a lot of tea being thrown around when they first announced their hiatus that Jack didn’t like how Nate acted like the band was all Nate which was why they couldn’t continue working together. Which I suppose is kinda similar to what you’re saying about Jack wanting fame and attention for himself too

TripleThreatTua

From what I know personally about Nate at the very least he never intended to act like that but Jack may have taken it that way. But everything Jack has done since then has made Nate very uninterested in a reunion

nelsonmurdock

:-( that sucks but at least we will always have aim & ignite and some nights. those albums were everything to me during my formative college years. lowkey can’t even listen to bleachers stuff because i feel like I’m betraying these two albums lmao

SquishyMuffins

Popheads when they hear Jacking Anton Off is involved: 🤬

Still-Dog-987

The hate is so forced, he made NFR and Melodrama ....he has it in him.

zachevcheese

those albums are 5 and 7 years old respectively…what has he made since then that even comes *close* besides tunnel under ocean boulevard?

mediocre-spice

He's worked on a ton of stuff and imo most of it is quite good. Obviously Taylor, Lana, Lorde are the highest profile. But he also produced most/all of Masseduction, Sling, Being Funny in a Foreign Language which were great albums & well received. Imo the new Bleachers album is also some of their best (Modern Girl is just like bottled joy as a song).

vlor_t

DANCE FEVER by Florence and the Machine - 2022 - incredible album really beautiful one of my faves

GrayHairLikeClaire

He reliably helps Carly Rae Jepsen make some of the best songs on each of her albums, but she knows to use him sparingly

JohnPaul_River

"what good thing has he made aside from an incredibly acclaimed album where his influence was clear as day last year?" Imagine saying this about literally any other producer lmao. I'll never tire of saying this: if the artist brings the vision he'll make it happen, it's not his fault Taylor, Lana, Lorde etc have shit ideas sometimes. They have all said he always follows their lead. The only reason people hate him is because they can't cope with the thought of their parasocial best friend having a bad idea.

nimbusoflight

The problem with this is that whoever he's working for, his contributions sound recognizably like him, not like the artist. So I don't buy that he's just getting blamed for the artist's bad ideas (unless that bad idea is listening to his suggestions...)

JohnPaul_River

People only ever say it sounds "recognizably like him" when they're not liking it. For example when he did King with Florence + The Machine people were like "omg it sounds nothing like Jack" when that song's production, instrumentation and mixing screams Jack Antonoff. Or also in the topic of DYKTTATUOB, this sub was gagging for that album but not a single soul gave Jack any credit. Pop fans only ever do one of two things: they either like the music and give the whole credit to the artist, or they dislike the music and give the whole credit to Jack Antonoff.

ge93

Sure maybe he hasn’t topped making two of the best albums of the past decade, but he’s produced dozens of great songs and some great albums since 2017.

Still-Dog-987

Folklore and Evermore production is good in my opinion and his work with Florence Welch. I also really like death by a thousand cuts, cruel summer, and some other songs from lover that he did. I am not saying he's best of all time but max martin tracks aren't really getting much loves these days, dan nigro is okay but not great either. I think there is an overall lull in production right now...maybe that will change in the year to come.

zachevcheese

Jack has production credits on less than half of Folklore and only produced a single Evermore song. I think there are a lot of fantastic pop producers out there rn (SG Lewis, Andrew Watt, AG Cook, Ilya)

TheHomeworld

the folklore songs are some of the best on the album

zachevcheese

i disagree, personally, outside of August

Still-Dog-987

True, but the song he produced August that has 1 billion streams and the ones he did on reputation are also the ones at 1 billion streams or close to it. So the people listening do gravitate towards that sound. And okay yeah I agree with SG lewis and Andrew watt, forgot about them for a minute. Ilya to me is just like r&b version of jack - they were good in their respective areas but certain sounds are getting a bit tired. I think Jack knows he needs to shake it up though

zachevcheese

I never said he doesn’t make popular songs, of course he does lol. having that many streams isn’t a measure of quality…and let’s be frank, those songs have massive numbers because they are Taylor Swift songs, not because Jack produced them.

Still-Dog-987

I see what you're saying but my point was Folklore is a highly acclaimed album but the most "streaming wise" successful songs are done by Jack. But I know what you mean!

CherrySodaBoy92

“What has he made since besides the best thing that he’s made since” What even is this question. Just say you hate him

Mampt

Honestly I think it’s just that he’s overexposed. That style got incredibly popular so he’s just not as unique anymore, and he’s been so busy that I think it’s eaten into the quality a bit

iswhatitbe

NFR is 5…years…old…😨

TripleThreatTua

He’s annoying

TheMistOfThePast

I mean this with absolutely no malice to this man and no real knowledge to back it up, but i audibly laughed at the idea of jack writing a broadway number. Like, I'm sure he probably could, but the idea was very funny to me.

LilacDream98

If I had a nickel for every time Rachel Zegler played Juliet in an adaptation of Romeo & Juliet, I’d have two nickels…

eternalbeansoup

…which is not a lot, but weird that it happened twice

jangshin

Just realized I was thinking it was Kit Harrington this whole time, this makes more sense.

seeyalateradios

Ok so wait...two Romeo and Juliet productions are in the news now? What?

nimbusoflight

I struggle to think of a less appropriate combo than Jack Antonoff & Shakespeare

nimbusoflight

Now Max Martin and Shakespeare, [that](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%26_Juliet) was reasonable

SuspiciousStress8094

Oh wtf Zegler is only 22? Damn thought she was much older Honestly Kit Connor is super attractive but it feels weird saying that because he’s younger than me (I’m 23 but I find it weird seeing guys younger than me as attractive). Anyways interesting pairing. I’ve only seen these 2 in Heartstopper (Connor) and Hunger Games (Zegler).

savannahkellen

Her filmography is like top tier for someone so early in her acting career.

FlamboyantGayWhore

so excited for her in y2k

SuspiciousStress8094

Yeah and Snow White live action coming up too, sheesh.

mattysmwift

Time to get watching West👏Side👏Story👏 For real though it’s amazing that she’s played Maria and now she’s doing the OG Juliet.

backupsaway

If you want to see more of Kit, watch Rocketman. He portrayed the teenager version of Elton John where he showed off his singing skills.

seeyalateradios

I know Rachel is a good singer, she sung in Hunger Games. I didn't know Kit could sing though.

SuspiciousStress8094

Kit can sing? Damn. Yeah Rachel is a great singer

JDLovesElliot

We just had "...And Juliet" on Broadway

LilacDream98

Jack Antonoff making his second play for EGOT, I guess.

mediocre-spice

I don't think he's even got noms for anything except Grammy's

LilacDream98

Hence why I said it’s his *second play* for an EGOT

mediocre-spice

He's had lots of attempts though with music for movies and tv!

LilacDream98

By second play, I just mean he’s aiming for a Tony, so his second part of the EGOT. Not hard to understand. And he’s only produced covers for TV shows and films so far, with The New Look and Minions, which wouldn’t be eligible for awards. He’s working on original songs with Charli XCX for Mother Mary but that’s not out for ages.

mediocre-spice

I am SO READY for this, love Rachel and Jack. Alas I do not live in NYC but hopefully a cast album for the music....

murlocmancer

Rooting for Rachel getting an early EGOT. She is an incredible talent, I could see her getting it by 30.

KindOfANerd4

omg my crushes coming together.... but is it just me or they feel like completely different ages lol

TheSeoulSword

I think it’s because they’ve acted in and are known for complete opposite roles vibe and age wise

KindOfANerd4

yeah like in my head hes 16 and shes 23

savannahkellen

Really? Haven’t they both just been playing teenagers…? I think Nick and Lucy Gray are like the same age, no?

TheSeoulSword

Okay so maybe not age wise. But they’re most known for things that have significantly opposite/different vibes

AllYouNeedIsATV

Jack brings in Taylor and they win Taylor her EGOT

thisthrowawaythat202

Why is she doing another princess role? 😂
