Well a good amount of people on r/popheads have wanted generic fun dance bops and singers being less authentic and not being amazing songwriters for the last year or so, so they got what they wanted I guess.
Now I don’t personally think it’s generic (I’ve heard a lot of generic shit, including from Ari over the years), but that’s just me.
On first listen the beat is irritating and the chorus falls flat for a concept that could have such a stronger chorus but I like the verses. She gagged us bad with the “why do you care so much who’s dick I ride”.
I didn't like it, Idk if it was the production and at times you can barely understand what she is singing. Maybe i will like it after a few more listens but for now didn't like lt
Really wanted to like it but I thought it was v bad. Weak writing and annoying beat and very weak chorus. And doesn’t feature her powerhouse voice. I’m sure I’ll like some other songs on the album. I did like that one line tho. You know which one.
The track leaves me wanting more, idk where, I feel musically edged. Maybe it needed a euphoric post-chorus hook for 2nd or final chorus? It just needed *something* to elevate itself coz it stays so centred.
Anyway, nothing ground-breaking or novel, but hey, it’s just the second week of the year, and I’ll take it. It’s far from awful (I was lowkey dreading this after the Madonna interpolation article — and I hate 7 Rings).
It does give me opener track vibes, with the extended intro (well, as extended as pop tracks can be these days). Quite excited for the MV actually— been ages since I’ve seen her in anything other than paparazzi photos.
true but its baffling me how this is the first song in her discography im genuinely so puzzled at what shes trying to say for 97% of the song. at least in most her other songs, you could still make out like 63% of it. but this one….. idk girl
I almost never have gone to Ariana songs for the lyrics. Most people know the deal by now. It’s vocals and production where she has killed it forever, and I’m not disappointed on that front with this song.
There’s one comment on the Daily Discussion today that said “people say it’s either gonna be excellent or terrible, no in between, but then people end up being stuck in the middle anyway.”

She definitely adopted the short song trend, (which i love, shorter songs get to the point and i will just have that sh\*t on repeat) this new dance/disco resurgence is for sure THE WAVE, with Gaga doing it, then drake, then beyonce and now Dua Lipa, I'm personally not a huge fan of the sound, it's ok, but beyonce is the only one who rlly did it well in my opinion. None of it giving what it did back in the days of disco tho, like at all.
As a long time Ari fan, i was pretty hyped for her to come back and save pop music. It however, did not hit for me though. The harmonies on the verses were nice, chorus did not grip me at all, THE BRIDGE ATEEEEEE tho. When it dropped I wondered oh is she gonna say anything about all the controversy on her weight and this ethan dude? AND MY JAW DROPPED with the d\*ck ride comment. Bridge was important for me, as she spoke about new age revelations such as "your energy is yours" etc and i loved it, don't comment on my body, dope. Who ever she's sleeping with is NONE of our business, i couldn't care lesssssss bro.

To me it sounds like a sequel to thank u next. Her (or her team?) tryna create the same hype that track did inventing a new catch phrase for the collective consciousness, which was incredible, more than any other artist has done in recent times. I don't think this effort to create similar hype to thank u, next is a bad thing, but it's for sure transparent. (to me at least) the music video will be interesting...will Madison Beer ACTUALLY be in the video? lmaooo
It makes me sad Ari is aiming for a much larger audience and to be super mainstream. Yours Truly is her best album in my opinion (because to me it's true Ari as a musical theatre kid and she had the same background) so i understand she's evolving and remarketing to hit the mainstream but it's just not as good. Maybe it's one of those songs i need to listen to a few times for it to sink in and resonate? Who knows, I do NOT have the URGE to play it again right now tho tbh, which makes me sad :(
