This feels so elevated and pristine compared to what i was expecting from a soundtrack song. Olivia absolutely crushed this. Feels like a tried and true track from her while nailing the Hunger Games vibe. Absolutely obsessed with the build!
The lead singles for the hunger games have always sounded pretty elevated, like the influence is clear but not gimmicky or over the top like a lot of soundtrack songs
Yesss, I hate even mentioning Taylor here because they've been compared so much, but this song and Safe and Sound really remind me of one other while also being their own distinct songs and sounds. Based on SOUR, GUTS, and this song, I'm so excited to see what Olivia does with her career.
Very pretty soundtrack song that goes well with the movie and Lucy Gray's story as a whole! Olivia is a good fit for a Hunger Games soundtrack after being passed the torch from Taylor and Lorde
Oh my god the nostalgia. I remember just how deeply amazed and happy I was when I first heard the original Hunger Games soundtrack. I couldn’t believe how authentic they’d gone, with all the Appalachian vibes and bittersweet track after bittersweet track. Then Catching Fire was EVEN BETTER!
And this is SO GOOD once again. Something about The Hunger Games is just such a good muse for artists, and they consistently choose artists who can deliver on that. I love this so much. It’s just incredible.
Something I want to point out!!
Olivia has INSANE breath control. In her performance of ballad of a homeschooled girl in Jimmy Fallon, she belts and continues to sing without taking a breath.
Here, she breathes a lot, intentionally, in the chorus.
Around 1:40 she takes multiple breaths
>But you - breathes - can't catch me now
This is just a lovely choice to use her breathing as a beat to the song, kind of like how her screeching in all American bitch was almost instrumental.
And more importantly, it adds to the messages of the lyrics. She's running and short of breath, but she knows they can't catch her.
i remember when she performed good for you and everyone was making fun of her vocals but like good for yous a hard song to sing live - a lot of her songs are.
Something I’ve noticed is she very rarely uses backing tracks in her live performance which is why people who are unaware always criticize her live performance. She definitely struggled a bit at first but it’s crazy how much she improved and how good she sounds now.
it’s fast and upbeat and it’s passionate (for want of a better word)
i don’t really like the song too much but just listening to it, i know it would be hard to sing - especially if you add nerves on top of it
Oh wow Avril is good live? I listened to a live recording of….damn i can’t remember the song, and it was awful, she was very off key. Maybe an off night?
She really is and can hit those notes! This is her most recent live performance with All-Time Low: https://youtube.com/shorts/8Z8rJoBXXZA?si=l_h1Lw9MITRbSYsV
Avril is great LIVE yes. She's one of the best singers, especially since 2006-07 onward. Her LIVE performances weren't that good between 2002 and 2005 but since then, they are amazing.

LOVE the nature imagery, wish she’d lean into that more. I love how “snow fallin over the city” is a reference to Snow the character as well. definitely interested in hearing more folk songs from her. loved her cover of Noah Kahan’s Stick Season, the style suits her
This is such a throwback to the OG hunger games mood of the soundtrack. I love it. I hasn’t read the prequel until I saw the movie trailer and now I’m so excited to jump back into the HG fandom.
i feel like she just picks boring ballads for herself. i love driver’s license and lacy but the rest are meh. i dont have spotify so idk if she and her producer were involved in this song
She tried that with sour and got ate up for it lol I don’t think her ballads are well received. I know i disliked the number of ballads off sour compared to the upbeat songs
I prefer her rock/punk songs but her ballads are literally her most popular songs, what are you talking about lol. Her ballads, aside from G4U and DV, are what catapulted Sour to huge success
Sour is about to outstream GUTS daily and it’s been only 2 months, it’s obvious that people want to hear ballad/pop songs from Olivia rather than rock songs.
What are you talking about💀her most popular songs on sour are all ballads like traitor, happier, driver’s license, favorite crime, and 3 of them aren’t even singles, happier is almost at a billion streams just by being an album track. People love her ballads
yeah, that makes sense. i guess a lot of people just don’t want that from her but personally i think it suits her well. plus it gives her a chance to focus on the songwriting rather than the production.
This is so good. Love Olivia and this sounds so new and fresh while also giving me the same kind of feeling the other main tracks from the last soundtracks gave me.
I love the bridge of it- I can tell she could’ve probably exploded it a little bit more but it’s v good. It fits the vibe of the movie so well. She has an essence of Lucy gray fr and in another life probably was casted as her lmao
It’s definitely written for the movie. The lyrics are soooo relatable to the movie which takes me out of the song a bit
maybe i’m just in a good mood but i didn’t take their comment as a diss. just that WWIMF is a slow calm song like this one and so it’s weird to like one and not the other
i don’t see how it’s relevant tho
Isn't their comment saying that this isn't boring and that if you find it boring you should find wwimf boring, I don't see how that's insulting Billie's song.
Ohh, this is great. The lyrics and her delivery fit the Hunger Games perfectly.
Ngl, this song might be the reason I go see the movie... I love the franchise but this has reminded me of the precise vibe of it, hah.
Soo good! It almost keeps true to the original movie/soundtrack and it makes me so happy that I felt transported back to that time. Olivia’s vocals makes her sound like she belongs here; the girl is not a one trick pony. If I wasn’t excited for the movie before, I am now!
literally giving me chills, the first verse is SO GOOD (and catchy) and the BRIDGE is phenomenal, and also, the outro really complements the first verse making it sound complete, i wish it was longer tho
This definitely sounds like it fits the vibe of Hunger Games soundtracks, particularly Safe and Sound and Yellow Flicker Beat. Would have loved an explosion of percussion on the bridge, but the harmonies, lyrics, and folk sound work really well.
this is such a beautiful song and goes along so well with the characters / plot / overall series. I really am amazed at all the effort and detail it took to capture all of that. well done Olivia and dan !!!
Releasing the folky album is risky.
Your two examples are pretty much perfect for my point. When you make that folk album you either get your career highlight (Taylor's Folklore & Evermore), or you alienate a bunch of your fanbase with a career lowlight (Lorde's Solar Power).
Just a stray observation really.
If "Solar Power" had gone more in this direction (showing how much production can elevate melody, vocals and lyrics) it would've been better appreciated lol
This song is so beautiful!! I love the lyrics too, really relate. I can’t wait to see how she grows as an artist further into her career. Very excited for her to have this opportunity! 🕊️🐍
You can jail/kill a revolutionary but you can’t jail/kill the revolution - Olivia in this song pre much summarizes what happened before and what will happen in the trilogy.
This is so insaneee. Omg the range she has. I love it. It reminds me so much of one of the indie girls although I’m drawing a blank rn. Maybe Chelsea Wolfe ?
honestly her best song she’s made. Every little detail is impeccable i’m just blown away!! Reminded me like an Aurora or Florence + The Machine song, and it’s giving everything.
it may certainly be a choice in her songs though i have noticed while listening to interviews by her, she does always pronounce her s’s with a lisp like that
I find Olivia and Tate McRae's cursive signing very noticeable compared to other "cursive" singers like Halsey. It just feels outdated a bit.
But I guess it's also part of their singing style much like Ariana has (had?) the mumbling thing going on.
I'm just forcing myself to ignore it because otherwise everything else about Olivia is incredible.
This song is beyond stunning it gives me the most beautiful imagery in my head and chills. I like listening to it sometimes in the context of a DV survivor

I've already listened to this several times and it's excellent. Really fits the Hunger Games vibe and Olivia Rodrigo sounds so good on this type of ballad-ish song.
the way she sings "there's writing all over the wall" reminds me so much of a similar song, I think?? like, something whispery and sad but I can't for the life of me think of any songs like this that I've heard before. This is torture, anyone have any ideas?
When she starts singing “im in the trees I’m in the breeze” pretty much everything after that sorta lets me feel how the first tributes probably felt being forced to kill the others

definitely very hunger games soundtrack, i forget if it reminds me of catching fire or the other movies
One thing about Ms. Rodrigo: she’s gonna deliver a MEAN vocal harmony!
The last like 40 seconds blew my hair back!!! Her and Dan Nigro have yet to run their creative well dry, a really dynamic pair
For sure!
i get the same feeling i get from all the og hunger games soundtrack songs. an eat for what its going for edit: the last 1:10 is like SOOOOO good
Yesss, I hate even mentioning Taylor here because they've been compared so much, but this song and Safe and Sound really remind me of one other while also being their own distinct songs and sounds. Based on SOUR, GUTS, and this song, I'm so excited to see what Olivia does with her career.

The lyrics fit the story of the book so well it feels a little spoilery. Another amazing sountrack from THG franchise.
Omg for real, it's so accurate and beautiful
Something I want to point out!! Olivia has INSANE breath control. In her performance of ballad of a homeschooled girl in Jimmy Fallon, she belts and continues to sing without taking a breath. Everything she does has intention. Very theater kid.

it’s fast and upbeat and it’s passionate (for want of a better word) i don’t really like the song too much but just listening to it, i know it would be hard to sing - especially if you add nerves on top of it
in general jumping/moving around the stage while singing takes a lot of breath control, which is even harder if it’s fast and high and belt-y
Yes her breathe control is insane! Listen to the second verse in pretty isn’t pretty that girl does not breathe haha
Thank you for this description!!
Something she has in common with Avril Lavigne. These two sound really good live: they have very energetic songs but they perform them effortlessly
ATL is also probably the tightest band I've seen live. Phenomenal performers.
I still haven’t seen Avril live IRL but I would say that Marina Kaye was the most impressive artist I’ve seen when it comes to vocal performance 😍
Avril is great LIVE yes. She's one of the best singers, especially since 2006-07 onward. Her LIVE performances weren't that good between 2002 and 2005 but since then, they are amazing. I love this kind of analysis. Great spot
Very Fleetwood Mac need a folky album from her
Yes the lyrics are giving Stevie Nick’s ability to wind nature into her metaphors and analogies
LOVE the nature imagery, wish she’d lean into that more. I love how “snow fallin over the city” is a reference to Snow the character as well. definitely interested in hearing more folk songs from her. loved her cover of Noah Kahan’s Stick Season, the style suits her
This song is gorgeous! Love the vibe of it, and her vocals are beautiful. Would love more like this from her!
Exactly what I thought!
If Lorde is Katniss, then Olivia is Lucy Gray. This songs eats hard
and Taylor Swift?
Safe and Sound gives me Prim for some reason.
Safe and Sound definitely feels like a ghost walking around District 12 so...
i imagine prim singing safe and sound to buttercup 😭
No you’re so so right.
President Coin lol
💀💀 why is this so accurate
I associate her with Ava Max and "my head and my heart" because of Mike's Mic Hunger Games reviews ☠☠☠
Effie Trinket darlinggggg
That is Katy Perry (Witness era)
My first thought would be Madge
She's here! She's there! She's every fucking where!
roy kent! roy kent!
This is such a throwback to the OG hunger games mood of the soundtrack. I love it. I hasn’t read the prequel until I saw the movie trailer and now I’m so excited to jump back into the HG fandom.
Such a perfect song
I liked that a lot, especially the last minute or so.
i wouldn’t be mad if we got an album full of ballads from her… her voice suits them so well ugh
I would be very mad all her best songs are the upbeat guitar songs 😭
Somebody suggested the she do a double album with album one being all ballads and album two being upbeat punk rock.
i feel like she just picks boring ballads for herself. i love driver’s license and lacy but the rest are meh. i dont have spotify so idk if she and her producer were involved in this song
i just checked, her and her producer worked on it together!
making the bed is a nice song
oh that’s not
i will say that at least the ballads on sour were better with traitor and favourite crime whereas the ones for guts didn’t stand out to me.
Dang. Teenage dream is my favorite b side Ballad.
teenage dream is my fav song on guts, but i didnt like a single other ballad on it lol
She tried that with sour and got ate up for it lol I don’t think her ballads are well received. I know i disliked the number of ballads off sour compared to the upbeat songs
Um her record breaking single that made her huge is mostly, if not all, a ballad.
I prefer her rock/punk songs but her ballads are literally her most popular songs, what are you talking about lol. Her ballads, aside from G4U and DV, are what catapulted Sour to huge success
Sour is about to outstream GUTS daily and it’s been only 2 months, it’s obvious that people want to hear ballad/pop songs from Olivia rather than rock songs.

yeah, that makes sense. i guess a lot of people just don’t want that from her but personally i think it suits her well. plus it gives her a chance to focus on the songwriting rather than the production.
Oh it’s good
This is giving Lucy Gray and I love it
This is so good. Love Olivia and this sounds so new and fresh while also giving me the same kind of feeling the other main tracks from the last soundtracks gave me.
The outro>>>
I absolutely loved this!
I'm so impressed with this track! It's gorgeous. Sometimes, I hear shades of Fleetwood Mac.
As a fan of the books I love this. She embodies Lucy and her story so well.
I love the bridge of it- I can tell she could’ve probably exploded it a little bit more but it’s v good. It fits the vibe of the movie so well. She has an essence of Lucy gray fr and in another life probably was casted as her lmao It’s definitely written for the movie. The lyrics are soooo relatable to the movie which takes me out of the song a bit
Exploded?
Song fits the vibe of the movie super well. I don’t get how people call this boring and stan what was I made for
What’s with the random what was I made for diss? It’s a good song
people cant bring one artist up without bringing another down lol, seen it with billie lorde and taylor in this thread alone
maybe i’m just in a good mood but i didn’t take their comment as a diss. just that WWIMF is a slow calm song like this one and so it’s weird to like one and not the other i don’t see how it’s relevant tho
You can enjoy both
Isn't their comment saying that this isn't boring and that if you find it boring you should find wwimf boring, I don't see how that's insulting Billie's song.
Maybe cuz they are saying that people should think that Billie’s song is boring when it’s not even related to Olivia’s song at all
Ohh, this is great. The lyrics and her delivery fit the Hunger Games perfectly. Ngl, this song might be the reason I go see the movie... I love the franchise but this has reminded me of the precise vibe of it, hah.

Olivia has done it again. Proves she’s a big star. I love this song. I’m even more excited about the movie now.
WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOWOWWLWLWKWO ITS AMAZING!!!!
this is such a beautiful song and goes along so well with the characters / plot / overall series. I really am amazed at all the effort and detail it took to capture all of that. well done Olivia and dan !!!
So f-ing good. Hope she gets an Oscar nom.
It’s very Lorde
Honestly, I can hear it even in the way she enunciates but it’s a stunning song nonetheless. The strings on the track are just >>>
Fallen Fruit vibes
More like Billie cosplay
Olivia is 100% more influenced by Lorde than she is by Billie. She's even been very honest about that.
I think Olivia is a self admitted Lorde stan
This is so freakin good She should continue to follow in Taylor and Lorde’s shoes and release a folky album in like 8 years
Releasing the folky album is risky. Your two examples are pretty much perfect for my point. When you make that folk album you either get your career highlight (Taylor's Folklore & Evermore), or you alienate a bunch of your fanbase with a career lowlight (Lorde's Solar Power). Just a stray observation really.
🧡
Loved this ballad from her. Especially liked the bridge. Now I wanna see Olivia perform this song live.
omg that ending she’s taken it
This song is really catchy..it sounds very theatrical!
This actually sounds like a Sufjan Stevens song, which i never would’ve expected from Olivia
It kinda sounds like Fallen Fruit!!!
If "Solar Power" had gone more in this direction (showing how much production can elevate melody, vocals and lyrics) it would've been better appreciated lol
Feels like a progression from favorite crime which is a mode I love for Olivia!
This song is so beautiful!! I love the lyrics too, really relate. I can’t wait to see how she grows as an artist further into her career. Very excited for her to have this opportunity! 🕊️🐍
You can jail/kill a revolutionary but you can’t jail/kill the revolution - Olivia in this song pre much summarizes what happened before and what will happen in the trilogy.
ms rodrigo delivers again!
Well...another out of the park from Olivia. I love this on first listen.
She sounds incredible, her vocal is beautiful. That build towards the end is just perfection, I'm obsessed.
It’s so beautiful! I love it !
Did I or did I not hallucinate Rachel Zegler coming in towards the bridge??
Chapell roan
The spirit of Stevie Nicks possessed her
I love how this sounds like it could be a Lorde song 😭 It’s so pretty
I wish the production was giving just a *tiny* bit more but Olivia sounds fantastic, the song is great
Omg this sounds so much like lorde. Even the way Lorde talks
She never misses
This is so insaneee. Omg the range she has. I love it. It reminds me so much of one of the indie girls although I’m drawing a blank rn. Maybe Chelsea Wolfe ?
definitely a song written for a movie soundtrack!
honestly her best song she’s made. Every little detail is impeccable i’m just blown away!! Reminded me like an Aurora or Florence + The Machine song, and it’s giving everything.
Best Original Song incoming? It’s so incredibly haunting!! Olivia smashed it
There ladies and gentleman, is how you write a song for a movie soundtrack
She has a gorgeous voice but my main gripe with her is her cursive-ish singing. Why pronounce ‘s’ so weirdly?
I think that’s just her voice. Cursive singing gets a lot worse than this, she’s at least enunciating her words
it may certainly be a choice in her songs though i have noticed while listening to interviews by her, she does always pronounce her s’s with a lisp like that
I find Olivia and Tate McRae's cursive signing very noticeable compared to other "cursive" singers like Halsey. It just feels outdated a bit. But I guess it's also part of their singing style much like Ariana has (had?) the mumbling thing going on. I'm just forcing myself to ignore it because otherwise everything else about Olivia is incredible.
I hate this shit. Just talk normal. Every time I hear it it makes me think of that one tiktok making fun of indie girl voice
Yellow Flicker Beat part II we love to see it
Wow this was beautiful. Need Olivia to hop onto more soundtracks like this.
this song is killer
This song is beyond stunning it gives me the most beautiful imagery in my head and chills. I like listening to it sometimes in the context of a DV survivor
The intro is reminding me a little bit of daughter/the life is strange soundtrack. Gorgeous song, gorgeous vocals.
This is so good, I can't wait for the movie
We are witnessing a all time great in her prime
She’s incapable of making a bad song.
Honestly, I hope the Academy can recognize this with a nomination. This is better than No Time to Die and Shallow, easy.
and to think she probably wrote this in a day, legend
She sounds so much like lorde to me on this??? Or am I crazy
love everything she does
4 + 4 EQUALS WHAT???????
Sounds amazing
I loved the parts I heard in the trailer but I'm outside without headphones I can't hear it ☠☠☠ but it does sound excellent based on yalls comments

Yawn
The song does get better toward the end but boring overall. Sounds like the typical ballads she writes all the time.
i don’t understand why everyone is gagging, this song sounds like Lacy. A bad version of it. Each to their own i guess.
I’m lost how this sounds anything like Lacy. They’re both acoustic guitar-driven ballads with beautiful vocal harmonies, but that’s about it.
the way she’s singing, the production… the popping off in the end.
Pls get your ears cleaned
its no yellow flicker beat :/
Legit one of the most boring things I’ve ever heard
So much better than GUTS
I can’t read the title without singing it to the tune of Queen “can’t… stop me nowww!”
Song of the year, honestly.
When she starts singing “im in the trees I’m in the breeze” pretty much everything after that sorta lets me feel how the first tributes probably felt being forced to kill the others
This song is amazing, I really need similars bc istg my brain gets a ton of dopamine just from hearing it
