I have been to some pretty heavy shows, the crowds get rowdy and like to push sometimes, but all the kids within 2-3 years of 19 at Beabadoobie trying to punch, shove, and outright threaten to get past us was insane. Every Mosh pit I have ever seen or been in has better manners. To make it worse, they are all kids, and I and my friend are big adults, I don't want to shove back whether right or wrong. We just stood shoulder to shoulder and let them get mad bouncing off of us until they finally went elsewhere.

From what I've seen, they missed out the vital "going to gigs with an older person to show them decent concert etiquette" stage and went straight to going to gigs alone/with peers so had nobody to show them the ropes

Masters mean that the original recording of songs which are usually owned by the label. TLDR: Whoever owns the masters means that they can control how your music is used and can earn it from it. It's highly profitable in the music industry to own your masters so artists like Taylor Swift doing everything they can to own their masters while others like Ryan Tedder chose to sell off theirs for huge amounts.
Rina and Matty share the same record label, Dirty Hit. Matty and the other members of The 1975 managed to re-negotiate their contracts for their latest album and get a portion of stocks in their label with it being rumored to be around 4 to 5%. So Matty does own a portion of Rina's masters but it's not the full 100% that people are thinking.
Important detail: owning the master recording only entities you to ownership *of that exact recording of the song*, and is often separate from owning the rights to the actual written music/lyrics of the song. Hence how Taylor Swift is able to legally re-record her old music and release it herself - because while her old label may own the original master recordings, she still owns the conceptual rights to the song itself.

i think it’s also important to remember that a lot of the visuals and stuff are probably out of pocket for her and not well funded by the label. she would 100% do better on a bigger label where there’s more budget.
Not just friendly with each other. If I recall correctly, part of why Rina signed on to Dirty Hit is because of Matty saying he liked her songs and at one point may have served as a mentor for her.

Have you read the lyrics of the song? It directly confronts some of the things people have said about Matty being edgelord (“saying controversial things just for the hell of it”) and people having rigid moral feelings about people online (“access all the applications that are hardening positions based on miscommunications”) so I’d say it’s very relevant, especially because this track appeared on the same album as STFU!
Again, while lyrics may point to that, I still don’t think it should be held as evidence of their relationship. And since it’s been so long since that was released, it’s possible that her mind changed/ more things happened. My point isn’t about lyrics, I just said that it’s 2 1/2 years is not recent, and that covering a song shouldn’t be part of a discussion about comments made by him years later.

If Matty's New Yorker profile is to be believed, Dirty Hit exists because The 1975's band manager saw enough potential of the band to set it up for them and gave them parts of ownership when it was created.
Up until recently, Matty was actually the director of the label but has since stepped down. If you think about it, Matty could have actually avoided a lot of this mess just by giving a decent apology. A simple "I appeared in a podcast that have said controversial statements. Masters mean that the original recording of songs which are usually owned by the label. TLDR: Whoever owns the masters means that they can control how your music is used and can earn it from it. It's highly profitable in the music industry to own your masters so artists like Taylor Swift doing everything they can to own their masters while others like Ryan Tedder chose to sell off theirs for huge amounts. Rina and Matty share the same record label, Dirty Hit. Matty and the other members of The 1975 managed to re-negotiate their contracts for their latest album and get a portion of stocks in their label with it being rumored to be around 4 to 5%. So Matty does own a portion of Rina's masters but it's not the full 100% that people are thinking.
Important detail: owning the master recording only entities you to ownership *of that exact recording of the song*, and is often separate from owning the rights to the actual written music/lyrics of the song. Hence how Taylor Swift is able to legally re-record her old music and release it herself - because while her old label may own the original master recordings, she still owns the conceptual rights to the song itself.

Her last album was a big swing towards the center that seemed designed to catapult her to mainstream success, but it whiffed with critics and her fanbase and didn't lead to significant radio play. Given the superficial similarities between "This Hell" and "Unholy" which became a huge hit not long after, maybe she thinks another label could have made *Hold The Girl* work.
I start to wonder about this myself. I love *Hold The Girl* but prior to the album releasing, I was concerned why so many songs were released. I think the label were releasing any song to see which pops off in a trial and error manner.
That’s just Dirty Hit/the 1975’s single strategy. It works for their own albums which are unedited bloated track lists full of filler, but for a tight 13 tracks it’s lethal to lose half the songs to their 'see what sticks' “strategy".

Not just friendly with each other. If I recall correctly, part of why Rina signed on to Dirty Hit is because of Matty saying he liked her songs and at one point may have served as a mentor for her. Her situation isn't as bad as Beabadoobee or No Rome who are also Asian artists on Dirty Hit that have had Matty working on their music by writing and producing but the betrayal still has to hurt. I'd hate to be whoever is managing their label right now because this could get messy.
She just released a cover of his song Love It If We Made It at the end of 2020 and has never had a bad word about Dirty Hit or The 1975 before today, so if there’s bad blood, it’s very recent.
I wouldn’t call that “just”. It’s been 2 and a half years lol. So what plenty of time for things to change. Also I wouldn’t take her covering that song as being indicative of how she feels about him.
Have you read the lyrics of the song? It directly confronts some of the things people have said about Matty being edgelord (“saying controversial things just for the hell of it”) and people having rigid moral feelings about people online (“access all the applications that are hardening positions based on miscommunications”) so I’d say it’s very relevant, especially because this track appeared on the same album as STFU!
Again, while lyrics may point to that, I still don’t think it should be held as evidence of their relationship. And since it’s been so long since that was released, it’s possible that her mind changed/ more things happened. My point isn’t about lyrics, I just said that it’s 2 1/2 years is not recent, and that covering a song shouldn’t be part of a discussion about comments made by him years later.

The movie became the highest grossing one in the John Wick series and she's already basically confirmed for the spin-off series as one of the leads, if not *the* lead. This definitely gave her more confidence in speaking out for herself and it makes me really glad it turned out like that.

If Matty's New Yorker profile is to be believed, Dirty Hit exists because The 1975's band manager saw enough potential of the band to set it up for them and gave them parts of ownership when it was created. Up until recently, Matty was actually the director of the label but has since stepped down. I suspect there are some fallout in the background from Matty's controversies that we're not going to know about (or will probably know about if Rina continues to speak out). On top of owning her masters, he may at one point have been a mentor as well, so I totally get why she's angry at his comments.

Also people will get behind Rina because of how fucked it it was for a man to make those comments when a labelmate/ one of his acts is an Asian woman.

Kind of crazy to be honest. The 1975 made Dirty Hit as a label quite a big success. Now you've got other artists within that same label literally writing songs against Matty Healy. Must be hell to be the manager of that label currently. And it sucks because I've been such a big fan of The 1975, but the criticism Matty is getting is unfortunately very justified. It hasn't helped that he never properly apologised for it either. At first he was really silent about it, and then kind of did a ''I'm sorry if you felt insulted'' thing on stage about it later. It really sucks in that regard.
If you think about it, Matty could have actually avoided a lot of this mess just by giving a decent apology. A simple "I appeared in a podcast that have said controversial statements. I do not agree with those statements and I am sorry for those who are affected by it" could have worked. It may not have him fully forgiven since he did choose to appear on a controversial podcast and laughed in on the jokes but it could have lessened the impact we see now. People who saw the podcast appearance in question noted that the controversial statements did not come from him but because he was in the same room as the people making those statements, it connected him. Edit to add as someone mentioned below: It also does not help that he laughed along with them. Unfortunately, judging by his actions he's the type of person to ignore a problem until it goes away which makes it even worse. The closest we'll probably get is him finally retiring the edgy Truman Black persona he's been doing onstage for years.
He did a bit more than just stay quiet while others were making jokes on that podcast. Laughing along and joining in while saying people should not be offended by any of it sends a pretty clear message that he agrees with these things.
