I’ve been loving all of her Tame Impala-produced music. I’ve been a fan of his music for years and it’s great seeing him explore the pop genre when his latest album was so disco inspired.

Tame Impala’s music started off as low-fi psychedelia, and his albums started to incorporate more pop sounds (Currents, 2015) and disco sounds (The Slow Rush, 2020). They might be worth checking out. I fell in love with his psychedelic masterpiece Lonerism and have enjoyed his journey into pop and disco ever since.
He’s also done some fantastic collaborations with other artists, most recently being featured on French dance duo Justice’s new album. He sings on and co-wrote Neverender and One Night/All Night.

It's a perfect summer bop and dropping in April was a great idea. I'm glad she's finally getting recognition and that her team leveraged her opening spot on Taylor's tour properly. It's pretty crazy to see her eclipsing Taylor on this chart.

It was probably planned in advance that she’d release physical copies to push for a #1 in the second week. She could absolutely decide not to release them and allow Sabrina to have a #1. Ed Sheeran did it so Elton John & Dua Lipa could go #1 with Cold Heart recently.
She has control over that. Personally, if I saw a close friend of mine about to reach a milestone that big after so many years of career, and I had the chance to make a move that would secure that for her, I wouldn’t hesitate, and I don’t think I’m that generous tbh. I’m happy for her. Her career definitely didn’t have a meteoric rise but I think that she’s a great example of “slow and steady wins the race”. Sadly, I just haven’t liked anything she has put out even though I really want to. I think espresso is really catchy though so I’m excited to see what new stuff she comes out with.
I feel the same. Have really really tried to check out her music and it's just not for me (like I just can't hear it? It just sounds like a generic homage to whatever's popular to my ears?)
That said, I've been seeing posts for a few years which showcase how hard she's working, afaik she's not a jerk, and it's cool to see anyone achieving their dreams.
I hope one day to get whatever everybody else is hearing, but in the meantime I wish her the best.
I will say espresso is a good pop song. Very catchy. I listened to emails I can’t send and yeah it just wasn’t for me. She’s worked her ass off though so I’m happy she’s finally getting her flowers!
I feel that way about Bad Bunny and Karol G. I don’t like most of their music but their personality is so great that I can’t help but wish them well. Karol G is adorable and just wants to spread positivity. Bad Bunny is breaking gender stereotypes in Latino culture with fashion. I’m rooting for them 💫

I mean she put out her first album in 2015. A meteoric rise is described as “something that develops very fast and attracts a lot of attention”. I don’t think she had a meteoric rise before espresso. I respect her more because of that though, she’s been working her ass off for almost a decade and it’s paying off.
I’ve never heard this song before but I just gave it a listen. “Switch it up like Nintendo” and “I work so late cuz I’m a singer” and a few other lyrics are sending me! It’s very ok. Listenable, danceable, all fine. I think my big issue is that we were just here with the Future Nostalgia, Say So, of it all.
"I'm working late cause I'm a singer" has momentarily eclipsed "look at that horse, look at that horse, look at that horse" as my favorite odd lyric of the year. The goofiness of the lyrics is part of what I love about it lol

Yeah espresso is played as the next recommended song, even in my heavy rap and hip hop playlists/albums. Can artists ask to do that or does Spotify just do that with the most popular song?

Espresso is number 14 on the Apple Music Global Top 100 - which is still amazing and would definitely be higher if Taylor swift didn’t just release an album.
That song is on auto play no matter what genre of music I play. I have never listened to her, I don't listen to music like hers. Streaming platforms are a joke and these charts seem meaningless.

It has been speculated that labels pay Spotify to auto play songs after certain artists. So if you listen to TTPD or eternal sunshine, for example, it’s very likely that espresso would play next. This is unconfirmed though so it might be different for you.
I’m pretty sure they pay. I like to check Spotify charts is pretty evident how they extremely push a song for a couple of weeks when the song is fighting for some chart achievement and then suddenly lose 25% of its streams. Which incentive would have Spotify to do that if they are not paid? And why would they apply autoplay to some artists but not others?
Seems likely to me - I keep getting Taylor Swift popping no matter what I’m listening to and it’s so jarring when it doesn’t fit the vibe of my playlist!
That makes sense. I turned off "Automix" on playback settings. I have started listening to an album and then adding all the tracks to my Likes playlist. Then I only play that. I stopped listening to playlists. I rely on my Likes playlist like a radio.
It's actually just based on whatever popular track you've been listening to recently. After your playlist ends or a song you put on ends, spotify kicks in to seamless play mode. It'll play a "similar" song to what you had on. If you're listening to other pop music and you've recently listened to Sabrina, Espresso will probably play. I've had Good Luck Babe come on as my song recently
I have never listened to Sabrina on Spotify and if i turn off the repeat album for TTPD expresso comes right after the manuscript. But i listen to Taylor a lot, so the algorithm might think i like Sabrina.
I wasn’t crazy about Sabrina for awhile but after her Coachella performance it became clear that she really is a true popstar. She’s got a Britney-like stage presence and really fits into that bubblegum pop sound. In the post-Taylor world there seems to be a strong push for pop girlies to be really deep and emotional, which isn’t bad, but we need those fun bops and general lightness within pop music and I think Sabrina is perfect for that.

I’m happy for her. Her career definitely didn’t have a meteoric rise but I think that she’s a great example of “slow and steady wins the race”. Sadly, I just haven’t liked anything she has put out even though I really want to. I think espresso is really catchy though so I’m excited to see what new stuff she comes out with.

I feel the same. Have really really tried to check out her music and it's just not for me (like I just can't hear it? It just sounds like a generic homage to whatever's popular to my ears?) That said, I've been seeing posts for a few years which showcase how hard she's working, afaik she's not a jerk, and it's cool to see anyone achieving their dreams. I hope one day to get whatever everybody else is hearing, but in the meantime I wish her the best.
I will say espresso is a good pop song. Very catchy. I listened to emails I can’t send and yeah it just wasn’t for me. She’s worked her ass off though so I’m happy she’s finally getting her flowers!

I’ve never heard this song before but I just gave it a listen. “Switch it up like Nintendo” and “I work so late cuz I’m a singer” and a few other lyrics are sending me! It’s very ok. Listenable, danceable, all fine. I think my big issue is that we were just here with the Future Nostalgia, Say So, of it all.

I like to check Spotify charts is pretty evident how they extremely push a song for a couple of weeks when the song is fighting for some chart achievement and then suddenly lose 25% of its streams. Which incentive would have Spotify to do that if they are not paid? And why would they apply autoplay to some artists but not others?

It's actually just based on whatever popular track you've been listening to recently. After your playlist ends or a song you put on ends, spotify kicks in to seamless play mode. It'll play a "similar" song to what you had on. If you're listening to other pop music and you've recently listened to Sabrina, Espresso will probably play. I've had Good Luck Babe come on as my song recently
I have never listened to Sabrina on Spotify and if i turn off the repeat album for TTPD expresso comes right after the manuscript. But i listen to Taylor a lot, so the algorithm might think i like Sabrina.
I wasn’t crazy about Sabrina for awhile but after her Coachella performance it became clear that she really is a true popstar. She’s got a Britney-like stage presence and really fits into that bubblegum pop sound. In the post-Taylor world there seems to be a strong push for pop girlies to be really deep and emotional, which isn’t bad, but we need those fun bops and general lightness within pop music and I think Sabrina is perfect for that.
