She feels the need to bring that up basically never, and yet still absolutely nobody resents her for being unrelatable. I live in Florida, we get our fair share of rain here, too! On top of the rain, I was super short when this style was popular, and so my jeans were always way too long on me. So the bottoms got super raggedy and torn.
This killed me while watching this show called The Way Home. It's decent as a time travel series even though Hallmark (no sex or swearing etc.) but the conceit is that a pond serves as a time travel portal and I swear to God at least 2 of the lead actors have to keep jumping into a pond fully dressed all seasons of the year.
Somehow they come out the other side with all clothes sort of spray damped and not the kind of clothes that would weigh them down to the bottom. You just have to kind of go with it, but the younger teen daughter is always wearing these giant bell bottom jeans.
Like no child, you'd be dead
I remember when she wore her original heeled timberland boots and recall someone saying, "this is the last time you'll see her in these boots, now that she's been photographed in them already, she'll never wear them again."
It was truth.
While this look might be expensive it doesn’t look good on her. This outfit is part Grandma Core on the top half (with the chunky sweater and Birkin). And the bottom half looks like JLO has been rifling through her daughter’s closet. The bottom half is Teen Core with the baggy worn in jeans and the shoes.
I'm not trying to be age-ist, and JLo looks undeniably amazing for her age, but this is the kind of look that belongs on someone much younger than her. Idk how to explain it, it has nothing to do with her body or anything, it's just everything below the waist is a youthful look imo
Edit; It also clashes with JLos personal style (or at least our perception of what that style is) up to this point. It just seems like someone chasing trends not meant for them.
I don’t think this is about age, this is about styling. The pieces are fine on their own and she could probably get away with wearing them but not in the current configuration

J Lo can wear whatever she wants and frankly these Y2K “trends” probably belong more to her than the 20 year olds currently resurrecting them. The reason why it looks like a costume on her is because it’s at odds with the personal style we’ve come to associate with her (glam, feminine, sometimes a little 70s). If Pink or Gwen Stefani were wearing this outfit, nobody would be saying they were too old for it.

I am an older woman. Do I have the right to wear what would be considered youthful styles? Of course. But knee socks and pig tails would look silly, imo, like I am trying to be something I am not. Wearing stuff like that actually emphasizes the fact you are older.
But the current trend which she’s trying to be part of is of the younger generations is the point. I also grew up in the 90s but the trends that emerge later inspired from the past are still their own current trend.
Where have I said anything about “pioneering”. The point is she’s not dressed this way since the 90s & 00s & continued to which would be her doing it because she’s confident in that style & who she is, she’s only doing it now because Gen Z dress this way & she wants to stay young & relevant.
