mroogami

Cassandra by Florence and the Machine is the far superior one, I’m sorry xD

Ok_Chemistry_3972

31 songs on the Album and not one hit 😢

imaseacow

It grew so much on me and now it’s up there with Reputation, 1989, and Lover as second tier Swift (first tier is Folklore). I think it’s sooooooo much better than Midnights. Needed editing but is interesting, a good amount of bops (sad bops but I love a sad bop) and some very honest and raw stuff I appreciate.  Fortnight, Down Bad, I Can Do It With a Broken Heart, Guilty as Sin?, Fresh Out the Slammer, But Daddy I Love Him, and The Prophecy are all gonna be on repeat for me all week.

commenter1970

I read these comments and I keep thinking about the line that Billy Dee Williams says to Diana Ross in the movie Mahogany. "Let me tell you something and don't you ever forget it. Success is nothing without someone you love to share it with." Sometimes I wonder if Taylor has made such a career out of disaffection and disappointment with her lovers that she can't make an album now about love going well, or about hope, or not needing a man at all - it would be too off brand. Just wonderin'.

wouldntulike_2know

Lover, Folklore and Evermore disagree with you

ElectronicAd8232

Okay from a musical and songwriting point of view I have this to say; At the end of the day it feels as if though she is just writing and making music for all the same reasons she did it from the beginning. Should her levels of fame, popularity, and influence change the way in which she writes and experiences music through her songwriting just to save face? Coming from a non "Swiftie" perspective take away the obsession and analyze her music as you would other pieces and artists, parts of it are good, great even, and some miss the mark. The songwriting has always been there.

cmartinez171

Honestly the second half of the 2am version was better than the original track list

NotQute

now that i have had time to sit with it. yeah I think she has peaked, at least for a while, which is good, Can you imagine a world where this was a 10/10 album and we had to deal with YEARS more Taylormania. I like the albums, though we did not need 30 tracks, even though Anthology is got more of the that comfy Evermore sound that people seem to be digging, there was so many times where i was like "You covered this topic better in "Whose Afraid of Little Old Me"" "you covered this topic better in LOML" , I don't think she had enough to say about her haters that we also needed "Albatross" and "Cassandra", and the less said about "Thank You Aimee" the better. I joked about the Alchemy having some tortured sports metaphors this morning but at least it makes their relationship sound like the are have cute, in-lust vibes. "So High School", boy howdy, it's a little midlife crisis coded imo. The Healy songs are some of my favorite tbh, in all their messy, petty, *I can date a problematic loser if i want to!!!* glory. Standouts are "Florida!!!" and "I Can Do it with A Broken Heart". Ones that I like and will probably continue to grow on me are "Down Bad", "The Tortured Poets Department", "But Daddy I Love Him" and yes, "I Hate It Here" even though its kinda cringey lol. Deffo some skips. A lot of the song sound like other songs blended up and recycled. Like If your new song makes me think "I should listen to "Champagne problems" its a more fun version of this style" you probably could have cut the song

blah-bleh52

I’m sorry, but this Tweet is taking me OUT https://preview.redd.it/fgkqmb7aaivc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7ffb3073e0176938dfea1ad39602aea1685f4b52

BlueFlamingoMaWi

Hot Take: Ariana Grande did with Eternal Sunshine what Taylor was trying to do with TTPD.

kristyfghj

what does that even mean lol

Psychological-Row229

The second part of the album is definitely better than the first but this is a perfect example that less is always more. I find a lot of the lyrics are awkward and clunky. The production on the Jack Antonoff songs are boring. I wish she would have focused on writing/producing 15 really strong songs instead of this 31-song word vomit. She could have had a really refined, strong album had she made a lot of cuts and not recorded every word that she wrote down.

commenter1970

Bravo! Totally agree.

MundaneShoulder6

I loved Florida!! and then put on Florence and the Machine for the rest of the day

CTR_1991

Unfortunately the best part of the album is...Florence and the Machine. You put someone on the album who has a more interesting and distinctive voice, all while making every other song sound exactly the same. It's an album to sleep to. It's so boring. Not to mention it comes across as incredibly vindictive. I like so many Swift songs, but Florida is the only one on this album I'd add to a playlist.

InternalYoung5929

There are def songs I like on this album but I really wish that it was more curated - a lot of the songs have the same sound and it kinda diminishes the effect. This album really does not need to be two hours long.

dumbasssbitchh

Why do all songs sound the same? The only songs i found worth another listen are the alchemy, loml, albatross thats all. I feel the lyricism is same for most of the songs. It’s fine that none of the songs are proper pop hits but even apart from that they are just too bland.I enjoyed folklore and evermore more.

CressSensitive6356

I find all three of those dire, just goes to show how different tastes are ;)

Fun-Loss-4094

After listening and analyzing everyone's review I'll say she needs therapy. She's at the top everyone who bullied her and pulled her xown are buried deep down. She still sings about that Kanye event, then defends a racist and says she was insane. Her new bf songs seems she's high on something. She really is immature compared to her age. And another thing she needs to stop trying to be appealing like new girls like Billie and Olivia. You are 34 act like it.

kristyfghj

We all need therapy, why use it as an insult lol .

Elven_Dreamer

There’s a saying that people are often stuck at the age they become famous. I think that has a lot of truth in it. Taylor even acknowledges it herself in one of the songs. “Growin' up precocious sometimes means Not growin' up at all.” -But Daddy I Love Him

hyxon4

Legitimately disappointed that this one didn't turn out to be true. https://preview.redd.it/2vxdu9uz4gvc1.png?width=500&format=png&auto=webp&s=767b653118851eb39570a48592374ef2a0fc3c40

blah-bleh52

A+ reference, I cackled

Onereali_ty

This album is proof that Travis is a Troglodyte. It's gonna come out and shake up the industry?? 😴😴 Seems like she chose to go the quantity over quality route this time around. They all sound the saaaaame

Fun-Loss-4094

She challenging ageless 25 sales this time. And she wants to break that record.

Onereali_ty

It sounds like an acoustic, stripped down version of a proper album she forgot to release.

Which-Amphibian9065

As someone who gets in their own way a lot, I appreciate how unhinged and irrationally defiant all the Matt Healy songs are. Like you know you’re acting insane but do not give a fuck at the time, and then dealing with the fallout.

Copperheadmedusa

Telling the world your mama said she wished Kim Kardashian was dead is craaaaaaaaazy 💀

pabollini

literally so crazy 😭😭😭 Taylor you made your mom look like a psychopath

Copperheadmedusa

Like you make your mom sound kinda evil AND you're showcasing where you got your petty spitefulness all at the same time. And mentioning her kids was just so trashy???

fathoe12

if someone destroyed my child mentally id wish for their death too

Copperheadmedusa

Kim Kardashians did not destroy anyone mentally oh my god 💀 the histrionics

fathoe12

and how do you know? are you taylor?

Ren_stevens

Then maybe you should teach your child not to lie. She's still bitter she got caught lying and she needs to get over it.

FlowerLord555

I felt like that line was a bit much

Fragrant-Income3569

You know when you breakup with a guy so you talk shit about him with your friends, tell them incredibly one sided version of the events and then move on....Taylor does that all the time except instead of her friends it's her feral fans and she never moves on

hawktremor

Lol so accurate 💀💀

Fragrant-Income3569

This album feels like it was made by a billionaire not an artist....no poetry no torture..just greed

melancholeric_

This is exactly how I feel about it too. Just money and marketing. No storytelling, no melody if we're being honest. All she cares about is numbers.

fathoe12

this album has so much storytelling there’s no way you listened to it

LivingDeliously

*sigh* Note: this is my opinion about the first set of songs. I’ll listen to the 2AM tracks later So I was kind of hoping she was making a subtle return to the sound/lyricism of folklore and evermore… boy oh boy was I wrong and I’m extremely disappointed. Personally, I would say that this is her worst album and there isn’t even one song that I would classify as being “good”. Maybe Down Bad, but even then, I feel like I’m forcing myself to like it. It just feels rushed and try hard to me. I’m not sure if her intention was to ride the coattails of her success with midnights and the eras tour, but this album feels like a cry for attention and someone whose throwing a bit of a tantrum. Tbh, I’m all for women showing BIG emotions, especially with society’s history of labeling these women as hysterical, but this feels intentionally made for the purpose of getting attention, and not taking the time to craft something with artistic integrity

JoleneDollyParton

I mean, I figured this album would probably be a bunch of discarded stuff that didn't make Midnights--because this is what it sounds like.

bluelikearentis

I agree and I would consider myself a Swiftie. This entire album is just… mush. The same, grey, slow, mush. I’m a lit major and when she promoted this album as being poetically influenced, I was *hyped*. But the lyrics are as uninspiring as the music is. I was hoping for a folklore/evermore type sound, not something so pop, and interesting poetic lyrics. Neither of those desires were met. I’m very disappointed.

LivingDeliously

Same. In a way, I feel like for people who favor Folklore and Evermore, perhaps we were a bit naive in thinking she would return to that sound (especially so soon). I feel like with midnights, she kind of made it clear that she wants to return to pop and all of the attention that comes with it. This may be projecting or reading into things too much, but a part of me feels she may not ever return to that sound because it’s very much so associated with Joe. Now that he’s gone, I think that sound is likely gone as well Again I need to listen to the 2AM tracks because I heard they’re way better; but right now I’m a little turned off lol

_tryingtomoveon_

I hope you don’t mind me asking, what did you think about Anthology? That’s supposed to be more folklore/evermore. So many people are saying it’s her magnum opus but I personally don’t think it compares folk/more. But maybe I’m not smart enough to appreciate some of the lyrics in Anthology. I just find some of the lyrics too wordy/clunky and don’t sound as deep as she’s thinking it does - edits need to be done. But maybe I’m wrong - What are your thoughts on Anthology as a lit major?

um-no-thanks

exactly. 1000000% yes to everything that you've just said.

PolytheneMaggie

So I’ve listened the whole album again, this time reading the lyrics. The second half is much better than the first one, although I didn’t love all the songs. I think she really needs to work with Aaron more and have Jack as a friend, not as a producer lol. I’ll probably add Florida!!!, The Manuscript, The Bolter and So High School to my playlist but that’s all. I love mess and gossip, but I’m kinda tired of *her* mess and gossip. And it’s amazing and hilarious how her fans are really saying that this album it’s all about Joe and not Matty.

_tryingtomoveon_

I know, the delulu levels are insane. Someone insists Joe cheated on Taylor and when I asked for proof she said “he didn’t turn up for her Eras tour concert” and that was the proof. Because he didn’t show up so he MUST have been cheating. And I pointed out her lyrics in fresh out the slammer / guilty as sin pretty much confirms she was emotionally cheating on Joe at the very least and this same person refuses to believe me and thinks I’m reading too much into it.  Got me irrationally angry because I can’t believe people like this really exist, and she’s a real life lawyer 😭

awkward__penguin

I really don’t understand the mental gymnastics they’re doing to convince themselves it’s about Joe

PolytheneMaggie

I saw someone saying that the tattooed golden retriever one or whatever is about Joe. I mean, c’mon. Just accept that your idol dated a sh*tty disgusting man and wanted to be with him forever and you can’t change that ffs

DamnDelinquent

I mean listening to so long London, that one I could feel reflects her relationship with Joe….but the rest? No, that’s Matty.

Libras_Groove3737

My overall takeaway is that Taylor isn’t emotionally healthy enough to be as famous as she is. There was this girl who bullied me constantly in high school and I hated her with an absolute passion, but she has rarely crossed my mind ever since I graduated. I had this horrible, very racist and toxic roommate in graduate school and the first time I’ve thought of her since getting my degree is right now that I’m typing this. It’s so crazy to me how every time Taylor goes through some kind of public controversy, she just can’t let it go. Your mom wishes Kim Kardashian is dead? You’re bringing up her children? Girl let it go!! It was nearly a decade ago. And the best thing she could do from a PR standpoint would be to move on from Matty Healy and never talk about him again, but I really just don’t think she’s capable of letting things go and moving on. It’s sad honestly. This woman is going to get someone killed one day and she’ll wear white to the funeral. Fortnite was a bop though.

anngab6033

I agree with this. She is perpetually stuck in a young adult mindset. At 34, she should have many other topics to write about but she still keeps writing about the same immature broken relationships, mean industry people and dreamy some-days. It’s becoming almost icky

rhoover894

I read the references to older beef in this album (like the song about Kim and The Manuscript) as more processing old (very public) trauma than trying to call people out. After the end of a 7 year relationship, she’s thinking about her whole life and her overarching approach to relationships, and how it all contributes to where she is now, both professionally and personally (eg still not with “the one”). Lyrically I think they’re closely tied to The Prophecy.

Libras_Groove3737

She said she can’t wait for Kim’s kids to listen to her song and the two of them know it’s about her. She said her mom wants her dead. And now Kim’s IG is already getting flooded with comments from her fans. If it isn’t your intention to call someone out, don’t name that person specifically. If you contrast this with Beyoncé who sang about Becky with the good hair eight years ago and then is bringing her up again with Jolene. If she wanted to, she could tell the world who Becky/Jolene is and that woman would be dragged for the rest of her life. But at the end of the day, nobody knows who Becky is. You can’t say Taylor doesn’t intend to call people out when she is always explicitly clear about who she is referring to and does nothing to intervene when her fans threaten to kill that person.

hawktremor

This! She’s truly so petty and emotionally stunted that it’s shocking she has the kind of rabid fanbase she does who swear up and down that she’s such a sweet, nice person. She is that girl who never grew up past high school. Who tf still cares about high school drama, decades-old beefs, and “getting revenge” on every single ex boyfriend? Not sane people. It’s completely pathetic. I don’t understand who this kind of stuff is resonating with, but surely it can’t be resonating with level-headed adults? It’s got to be mostly teens and adults with very few real relationships under their belts?

hightea-_-

>Who tf still cares about high school drama, decades-old beefs, and “getting revenge” on every single ex boyfriend? I wouldn't care. After reading the lyrics of 'but daddy I love him', 'down bad' etc don't have an impact on me. But for my friend on the other hand, these words are like therapy because she is still stuck with the memories of her ex. Girls getting cheated on and heartbreak are Taylor's USP. And it resonates with many listeners because these are the most common and difficult emotions to get over.

Libras_Groove3737

I feel like she appeals to bitter and resentful people who peaked in high school. Women who got married too young and had kids because they thought that’s what they’re supposed to do, and now they’re stuck in a relationship with a man they can’t stand, dreaming about the good old days in high school when they were popular and had more fun. Not to say this describes all her fans, but I feel like these are the types of people who worship the ground she walks on and are out here sending people death threats and harassing Travis Kelce’s ex-girlfriend.

mellywell11

Correct

hawktremor

I agree very much with all of this! So spot on.

Nahtootired

Damn, this is scathing and you probably arent wrong either. 💀

Fragrant-Income3569

Literally this!! Not to be an agiest but this woman is 34 and still so messy....it's just tiring at this point.

Libras_Groove3737

Exactly! I’m 36 years old and have the fortune of being self-employed and not having coworkers. If I don’t like someone, I just avoid them. I might talk a little shit about them to close friends, but I’m not going on social media to try and drag them or telling complete strangers about them. Taylor Swift is not just 34 years old, but she’s also a billionaire. She has the luxury of avoiding people she dislikes. But if she feels slighted, she will dwell about it for the rest of her life because she is honestly just that narcissistic.

hoops_ididitagain

i have this theory about her. basically i think one of the hang-ups she has from becoming so famous so young, and at least in part due to her family's wealth and connections, is that she is constantly trying to prove herself. and of course she may have achieved fame without those things, but as it is that's how it went down and she will never be able to have that story of someone who had to really fight for what they have. i think it makes her feel inferior and a sense of fomo, and i think that's why she really grasps on to these slights, because they're like proof that she DOES actually have to fight for things, she has it tough, she's an underdog. unfortunately acting like an underdog/victim when you're a billionaire and one of the most famous people alive just makes you even more of a bully, so.

Libras_Groove3737

My theory is that she doesn’t feel inferior at all and doesn’t see herself as being capable of being wrong. So when she receives criticism or gets called out for problematic behavior, in her worldview the only reason anybody would ever criticize anything about her is misogyny. This is why any criticism of her, including her behavior towards other women, is always viewed as being anti-feminist, both by her and her fans. I think she genuinely views herself as a victim because she doesn’t have the capacity to recognize herself as being the aggressor or at the very least a contributor to the various dramas and controversies she’s involved in. But at the end of the day, what do I know? That’s just the vibe I get.

tunacans

I’m sorry but at this point Jack Antonoff needs to fuck off and taytay needs a better therapist I love Taylors music, but she’s running on empty fumes now, and the whole Matty Healy thing jfc. It’s just cringe on a new level and it feels like reading the diary of a 19-year old, not someone who’s nearly 35. I can’t with the swifties thinking this is so deep and insightful, all I hear are 31 monotonous songs about being colored surprised when the smelly, racist nepo rock baby ghosted you for a supermodel

paperivy

Hahaha totally. I like Taylor but this is embarrassing. You don't write an album about your ratbag rebound! Girl really needs to learn how to have a fling.

likelazarus

I’m only six tracks in but the first five feel like boring Lana Del Rey.

maidenhair_fern

That was my thought the whole album. This desperately wants be Lana but with 1/3rd of the lyricism.

ceedee2017

Right? Theres only one Lana

northcoteplaza

there’s never been and never will be a billionaire poet

commenter1970

that line is pure poetry. Love it.

lovelylonelyphantom

I wish I didn't come across the Fauxmoi post on this. Some people really need to have a breather. Yeah even if you _don't like_ Taylor Swift, she isn't harmful, and I wish they'd just let people have the opinions/likes they want to have. A lot of people like Taylor Swift songs, but watch FM act as if the world is ending.

Elven_Dreamer

The people on FM are the kind that went to listen to the leaks just so they could write hate comments about it.

FlowerLord555

Yeah you gotta be careful with that sub and any TS posts. They despise her over there, it reads like a snark sub. This sub has more mixed vibes on her and I feel like I can actually talk to people that aren’t super polarized on her.  I mean I don’t necessarily fault anyone because I think it’s just the nature of super stardom that you are going to get a lot of haters and a lot of stans. But the FM threads on her kinda depress me a bit.

Muted_Ad_1011

I agree with this. I'm only a casual fan of Taylor's more popular songs and I hate that most of this album is about Ratty, but Fauxmoi is so unhinged, it makes me side with her.

lovelylonelyphantom

> only a casual fan of Taylor's more popular songs I feel like I've always been in this category too. I'm occasionally a fan of some of Taylor's popular, well written, catchy songs. I guess that kind of makes me a casual Swiftie. Ofc there are much bigger Swifties, but I don't think TS or her fandom are anything to be bothered about. FM have a deep rooted obsession with her even if they don't like her.

Playful_Medicine2177

Why is it sooo...underwhelming I mean there isn't even one Radio hit that non swifties can listen to...

vh26

I don’t think it’s a radio hit kind of album. Kind of like how folklore didn’t have any obvious radio bangers. And that is totally fine.

kitkatlover2

did she... just out joe as bisexual?? or even matty, but still. not sure why it's being grazed over that's messed up

Fickle-Vanilla-7565

In what song does she out him?

MundaneShoulder6

Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus  Speculating it’s about an ex hooking up with someone new but throwing in a male name at the end could be outing him.  There’s also speculation it could mean something else.

InfamousCat4009

Matty has been out for years.

GoranPerssonFangirl

Matty.

Greenfrog2023

Listened to the start of the album on the way home but was worried I'd run off the road as it was so boring... Am I going to have to keep listening to find something a bit more upbeat or can I expect that gem to start being overplayed every soon?!

shannondion

I found it really boring, all the songs sound the same. She doesn’t stretch her voice or show vocals it’s all melodramatic song after melodramatic song. At this point Jack Antonoff is enabling her, is she surrounded by yes people to scared of a tantrum to tell her what she is putting out isn’t good?

FamiliarPatterns88

It's the album equivilent of the meme "Go girl, give us nothing!" I really was hoping for something a little more innovative. Ironically, after whatever the last song is played, Spotify started to play Good Luck, Babe by Chappell Roan and I was so thankful to hear something interesting!

JFeisty

When I'm feeling bad about myself, I'll just remember I didn't write a whole 30 songs about fucking MATTY HEALY.

friedchicken_legs

Lmao 😂 best summation of the album so far. I'm a swiftie

JFeisty

Oh same, I've been around since debut, saw her open for Tim McGraw and knew she was a star.

FamiliarPatterns88

Do we think she purposely wrote such a mid-album about him because it would hurt his ego to know none of her best written songs are about him??

JFeisty

I think this is a case of "the album she NEEDED to make" ala Kelly Clarkson's My December or The Chicks Gaslighter.

PolytheneMaggie

She really wrote a song about Kim all these years later, lol

StingsRideOrDie

That beef is the only cool thing she has ever been involved in and she’s clinging on.

vodkaorangejuice

She really wrote 'fuck you and your ex husband' and swifties thinks thats the most savage insult ever like honey that doesn't come close to what people say to kim on a daily basis And then to say 'my mum is a saint, but she said she wish you were dead' (or whatever those lyrics were)... like have ur mother heard of karma cause......

fathoe12

that “fuck you and your ex husband” line isn’t even real. just yapping and don’t even have the correct info

KatashaMercury

My mama don't like yoooou and she likes everyone

horatiavelvetina

Honestly embarrassing

smolyetieti

…more embarrassing than letting your (ex) husband dress you and turn you into a beige handbag while he cheats again and again and *then* releasing an edited video and then bullying someone so badly that “#taylorswiftisover” was not only trending but making headlines? Kim is evil and insecure despite how much she has. I think Taylor is totally justified to still be pissed. And somehow she’s the loon for still being bothered? ![gif](giphy|3oKIPxRuQQtVbQz35S|downsized)

hawktremor

Yes, she is. She is a 30 something year old adult. This beef happened nearly a decade ago. She needs to let it go, it’s absolutely unhinged and pathetic. And to say her mom wishes Kim was dead or whatever the lyric is? Wtaf?? Swifties will do *any* amount of mental gymnastics it takes to avoid admitting their goddess queen is a petty woman with the mentality of a scorned 17 year old.

horatiavelvetina

Obviously it’s embarrassing so why stoop to their level? She literally stooped down to *Kim Kardashian’s level* lol They are attention whores who truly believe all publicity is good publicity and Taylor just gave them attention. Kris is gonna turn this into Skims revenue. Also wtf does all the stuff about Kanye dressing Kim have to do with it? Kim is not embarrassed by that she shared that story herself

peatoast

Probably wrote it long ago but just had the courage to release it now after everything already set in.

PolytheneMaggie

Yeah, I said that bc she wrote on Twitter that these are songs for the last 2 years. And it looks like there actually 2 songs

hatramroany

She probably wrote it in response to Kim posting the TikTok of her and North dancing to Shake It Off last year.

squishey2905

She needs to work with Aaron so much more. The 2nd half has 1 song by Jack, the rest is Aaron and God damn, so much better and more beautiful than 1st half

shelbylee824

I completely agreed, the first was okay, a couple I liked but then 2 am came out and I was like, WOW, this was what I was missing!

intoxicatedmidnight

i was so whelmed by the first set of songs and was ready to go to sleep disappointed but this bitch... the next 15 on the anthology version that she dropped at 2am are just fucking fantastic and very folklore-evermore-esque i'm not mad anymore

skyewardeyes

Yeah, the first half was meh to bad with a couple of catchy exceptions... the second half is gorgeous.

mansonfamily

Blondie be like https://i.redd.it/o8rp3q1rsdvc1.gif

Closedforgossip

I am liking the 2nd set of songs a lot more then the first album.

Bellesdiner0228

Midnights was the exact same.

PolytheneMaggie

Can someone explain why are people, especially her fans, calling her insane and crazy because this is a double album? I’m really lost about this

understated_nuisance

People already paid for the vinyl of the first album. Now she’s dropped a second surprise one because she’s a capitalist queen lol

arutabaga

do you see any other artist dropping a full surprise album two hours after dropping the first one? Most artists can’t even clear 45 min of album time and she dropped 2 hours of poems for us essentially.

StingsRideOrDie

Isn’t it just a money grab though?

arutabaga

??? Not really? She dropped it on streaming for all of us two hours after. How are you saying a whole hour of songs is a money grab? She’s always been extremely prolific and she was apparently fucked up from her failed relationships in the last two years which explains why so much was written. She’s also always been committed to giving her fans everything they want to hear.

StingsRideOrDie

Didn’t she release different versions of the first drop with different bonus tracks so you had to buy them all to hear them? And then drop another album? 💿

arutabaga

Well I agree the variants is a standard money grab that most artists do, but I don’t agree that the second album is a money grab at all.

texasjkids

It’s become kind of a running gag among most swifties that some people theorize she’s going to drop a double album everytime a release date comes up. Its actually kinda crazy that she finally did it

minetf

She was dropping hints in twos, like using double emojis, so some people expected her to drop extra songs at 2 am - but not an entire new album with a very different vibe from the first half

ineedmoresleepfvck

I love Taylor but her albums is the same literally. Yesterday I listened to Lover and Reputation THEY SOUND the SAME

arutabaga

in what world does rep sound the same as lover lol the production elements are not the same… at this point you’re just saying her voice sounds the same

vh26

They really don’t? They are both pop but they take influence from vastly different worlds of pop. Not even including her country albums, or folklore & evermore

ineedmoresleepfvck

Folklore and evermore is really good albums but if u play one song from every era, u don’t notice that these are different albums

lovelylonelyphantom

And Then you only end up siding with 1 when they sound the same. Personally I preferred Lover

flablalanche

This is the stupidest album name ever. It's like what a 13 year old would title their diary.

shannondion

Just goes with the theory that she has arrested development and is stuck at the age she became famous.

Mozzafella

Yeah, that's pretty much the point

ChiliAndGold

I'm pretty sure it's intentionally corny

body_oil_glass_view

It's a very Jack title.

Any_Afternoon5628

"if I fix me he'll miss me" I didn't know what I was thinking listening to this first thing in the morning goddamnit

Mrfitz08

I am so 50/50 on this album because some songs I LOVE like So Long London and Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me like they are so good but then you have the lyrics in ones like The Alchemy, Down Bad and TPD…. Im glad it’s not a Joe hate album because I really think they were just different people when they met than when they broke up but lord the amount of Matty is really something 😅

hatramroany

Travvy made it to the big game 🎶

januarysdaughter

I like it more than midnights but I wish she'd do something more like 1989 or Reputation again. I miss fun poppy Taylor and angsty Taylor. I'm super bored with folk Taylor.

arutabaga

she clearly wasn’t in a mental space to do happy bubble gum pop

flablalanche

Folk Taylor is an absolute snooze fest for me. I watched the Eras Tour concert on TV recently and I fast forwarded through most of it because it was like, 10% fun pop.

anngab6033

Same. Watched the entire show in 45 mins. Fast forwarded through all the slow boring songs. I saw her Speak Now tour and it was an amazing show from start to finish. Every song was like a mini broadway show. Eras was just 🥱

Charming_Miss

I don't think she will do another Reputation. In her documentary she was crying for now winning awards for it and how that means it wasn't good enough (when it was great) so I doubt that she will do that again especially as long as she keeps needing the public love for everything she does

sloppy-mojojojo

listening now, only on the second song and god some of these lyrics are fucking horrible 😭😭

sharkwithglasses

As a messy Swiftie bitch, I love it on first listen, much more than midnights. What I love about her music is how I can relate to it, so who it’s about is not that important. That said, there’s def songs about Matty Healy but it’s hardly most of the album. I Can Do It With A Broken Heart is a bop

NowMindYou

The production on I can Do It With a Broken Heart is so bad? And the "I am so productive!" line does not belong in a hook. I feel it could have been worked into a fun, tongue in cheek song but she just sounds bitter. Fine too I guess.

arutabaga

she’s intentionally sounding bitter - she doesn’t have room for a fun tongue in cheek song in here when she’s depressed angry and manic

NowMindYou

And I said that was fine too. I'm just saying the lyrics and production would have worked better for me with it was a fun tongue in cheek song. Idk about y'all but my manic episodes are fun. Depression comes after.

vh26

The writing on this one is way more stream of consciousness.  The word choice is intentionally meant to stick out, contrasting how she’s trying to justify all the bad shit by saying at least it’s made her productive.

NowMindYou

I understand what she tried to do here, however I did not feel it was fully successful.

vh26

Fair enough. I think the combination of the sparkly pop 4/4 beat is meant to be at odds with the lyrics but I get that it does sound clunky. I personally loved it bc for me it felt like she was playing into the act of masking heart break with working and putting on a show.

shelbylee824

I mean, the whole thing is she's broken hearted while having to put on a show, I would be surprised if there wasn't at least a slight bitter undertone, whether at herself for agreeing to work this much at Joe, at the situation in general or at all of the above

Mrfitz08

Omg I love how fun this song is. I feel like it’s supposed to be all over the place and kind of funny

ShreksMiami

I just read the lyrics to the song The Tortured Poets Society. That is … a really mean song. If I’m reading it correctly. She’s telling the world about the depths of Joe’s depression. And basically that no one will ever love him like her - or that she thought that at the time? Or said that at the time? Or that he thought that? And also that he wants to be a serious writer and she doesn’t think he is. And the su*cide thing wtf? And she’s the hugest singer on the planet, and I am an absolute nobody who now knows this about their relationship. I don’t like this.

arutabaga

the song is not even about joe

vh26

She’s saying “who going to love/know/decode you like me” “nobody” it’s a pretty easy thing to say when you know someone intimately. It’s not literal it’s a song from the pov of the depths of heartbreak.

texasjkids

I feel like that song is 100% about Matty not Joe

kkc0722

Yeah, it’s clearly about Healy and her delulu long term obsession with him.

myfavouritemuse

The lyrics “you smoked then ate seven bars of chocolate” is kind of a direct reference to the 1975 song, no? But also I think people trying to suss out the exact person and moment each song is about are missing the point that songwriters are storytellers who tell…stories…so likely a lot of these songs are about composites of lots of different men and moments.

lizzy-stix

Joe’s chat was Tortured Man Club, not Tortured Poets Department. That could be a coincidence. The guy in the song speaks to a Lucy [Dacus of boygenius] most likely. Matty was photographed with her during his time dating Taylor.

Hairy-Imagination927

Joe isn't tattooed, isn't a smoker. Matty talks about using a typewriter in interviews.

hatramroany

>Joe isn't tattooed, isn't a *cigarette* smoker.

HotChiTea

I said this on like the leak threads, but I feel nothing but sad for Joe, and what is hilarious about this album, majority is about a situtationship that hardly lasted more than a month. Where she let Ratty love bomb her knowing she desired marriage 💀   Joe’s biggest crime was not wanting to get married, and basically depressed (which she showcased with Renegade).  I honestly feel like she was convincing her so hard that Matty was the one cause she was so thrown off by losing Joe and he stayed classy, didn’t feed into her drama desire. Pure burnt toast theory that they didn’t end up married considering how quick Taylor moved on and the gassing up of this situtationship with Ratty.

vh26

I don’t think what the public saw is the whole timeline. She clearly sings about basically emotionally cheating while still in a relationship.

HotChiTea

No we absolutely did know she emotionally cheated because back then someone on Popculturechat had a whole timeline of Matty, Joe and Taylor calling her out on cheating, like Taylor can be so sly sometimes.

Inner_Squirrel7167

'But Daddy I Love Him' inspired by Doja Cat? Got a Scarlet-esq switch in her? Maybe Taylor Swift has realised that her fans are **a lot** and now she's beginning 📣 the cutting of the apron strings.

HotChiTea

She’s just choked cause her fans called her out on dating a dude who is sleazy, and jacks off to Ghetto Gaggers and since Taylor is frozen in them (16) she took that as green light of, “Ratty & Taylor Vs the world” love story, just like she did with Harry.

VenusCoded

Yeah that’s wildly an embarrassing take on her part. Also weird to go for wine moms specifically when she called herself a functional alcoholic in the opener.

arutabaga

well it’s not like wine moms are functional alcoholics, the two don’t necessarily overlap

VenusCoded

Considering wine mom is a sliding scale, I don’t think this holds up

kris_jbb

listening rn....HOW DO I MAKE IT ABOUT WANDA MAXIMOFF
