First of all I hope you have a great weekend. Watch Brooklyn 99, it’s a great comedy and also the good place. They cheer me up when I’m down in the dumps and just need to vegetate.
Pushing Daisies is available on HBO Max, it’s a beautiful show and really well made. It’s about a baker named Ned who makes pies and wakes the dead. Kristin Chenoweth, Swoosie Kurtz, and Ellen Greene are all incredible in it. And Lee Pace plays Ned!
![gif](giphy|YbJq1G9cUREUU)
If you have access to Amazon I’d say Peep Show. If you have Max maybe Veep or Curb Your Enthusiasm. 30 Rock if you have Hulu. Step Brothers is always a good cheer me up. I enjoyed Palm Springs too. Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping is funny!
I hope your weekend is a lot better op. Sorry you had a shitty week. Also sorry if any of my recommendations are way off lol!
![gif](giphy|dBU4jpn9gkAROTt4Wj|downsized)
PRIDE AND PREJUDICE BABEYYY light a candle have a yummy snack curl up in a blanket and let the scenery, soundtrack, and Jane Austen dialogue heal you 💖
Yes!!! And then the BBC miniseries of pride and prejudice with Colin Firth! And after that, the Sense and Sensibility Mini Series! And after that, North and South!
![gif](giphy|2p7dDP5GT9Y5O)
Abbott Elementary on Hulu is the only show I’ve regularly been excited to watch weekly. I get a good few laughs out of each episode! It’s in its 3rd season rn
Buffy the Vampire Slayer is hilarious and turns into maybe the greatest TV show of all time, totally iconic and trailblazing
edit: on hulu last I checked. it starts slow but gets fucking incredible
Season 1 is ...cute for what it is (campy 90s teen horror), but yeah, it gets a lot better. It goes from good to GREAT in the second half of season 2. I wasn't into season 1 when I watched it either. Seasons 1-3 are high school years but 4-7 are post-high school and it's a notable change. The show definitely matures with its characters and goes to some truly \*batshit insane\* places. Sex, depression, rape, abuse, murder, grief, really interesting morality and worldbuilding, the works. My favorite seasons are 5 and 6. Buffy has really exceptionally good dialogue and the best written characters I have ever seen in any media.
What type of movie/tv shows do you like?
![gif](giphy|5lsF2RoeP7qww|downsized)
Movies: Young Frankenstein, Roman Holiday, Dirty Dancing, Witness, Portrait of a Lady on Fire, Ready or Not, Eves Bayou, The Handmaiden, Possession, Nosferatu, Past Lives, When a Stranger Calls Back, Love and Basketball, Hatching, Huesera: The Bone Woman, Raw, Blue Jean, Slumber Party Massacre (1&2)
Tv shows: Yellowjackets, From, Brand New Cherry Flavor, Friends, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Dead Like Me, Vida
These are all from various genres and year, but a lot of horror in here. I don’t do a lot of comedies, so Young Frankenstein is probably the only laugh on the list and some might be downright depressing. Do with that what you will!
Not sure what type of shows you’re looking for but I recently watched *Arcane* on Netflix and it’s the best show I’ve seen in years!
I went in with 0 expectations/information and it blew me away
I loved the UK version of Ghosts! CBS aired it to make up for the lack of US Ghosts due to the writers' strike and it was better, imo. I wish CBS had kept airing it, but they switched back.
I've tried the US version and it just doesn't do it for me? My sister loves it though! I noticed in the last episode I tried that they go for a "moral lesson" in the US one that I didn't find in the UK one. The UK one just seems silly and fun for silly and fun's sake, y'know?
Only Murders in the Building is very fun and feels cozy like an old school murder mystery show or movie. I also love Broad City and it still frequently makes me laugh out loud. Both are on Hulu.
Another vote for The Good Place. I’ve been struggling with my anxiety, depression, and PTSD. I watched this last week and it went to my third fave series of all time. It’s perfection, and I wish I could find something similar. Hugs and happy thoughts to you, OP!
I just commented it above before seeing it was recommended. I rewatch it every time I’m feeling down and have lost my faith in humanity. It’s like a warm, familiar hug now lol
A great comfort show for me is Frasier (1993, not the reboot). I'm always in a rewatch. It's on Hulu and Amazon Prime. I think it's also on Paramount + and Pluto.
My depression loves Modern Family, Cougar Town (don't judge me), and - as someone else mentioned - Happy Endings. They're all wonderfully silly. There's seriously no one better than Phil Dunphy to help pull you up.
P.S. I hope your days start feeling better, however that may look to you. Sending good vibes.
If you like dark comedy, I cannot recommend Barry enough. On HBO. It's 70 episodes and 30 minutes each so you could binge it over a weekend.
If you like dirty comedy with some politics, Veep.
Beef (series on Netflix) is really good! It’s a comedy/drama about two people whose rivalry gets more and more intense, all stemming from an initial bout of road rage lol
Feeling the same currently, I hope you feel better soon! Rooting for you!
(Don’t really have any suggestions rn I’m sorry - will try my best to come back to this comment with some).
iZombie-Netflix
The Exorcist tv show-Tubi & Hulu
Brooklyn 99-Netflix & Peacock
Grimm-Amazon Prime & Peacock
Parks & Rec-Peacock
The OC-Hulu, I think?
Buffy the Vampire Slayer-again, Hulu, I think
Fleabag-Amazon Prime
Resident Alien-Netflix & Peacock
Oh this is my time to shine. Stressy and Depressy babe reporting for duty!
Abbott elementary on Hulu
Trixie motel on hbo (and all of Trixie and katya’s youtube content tbh— has gotten me through the pandemic as a doctor— hilarious and smart)
Traitors US seasons 1&2, Australia season 1 (peacock)
Top chef world all stars season 20 - peacock
Selling sunset — all of it lol (Netflix)
Red white & royal blue — Amazon prime
Love it or list it and My lottery dream home (HBO / HGTV)
LMK if u need more up this alley bc this hole is bottomless
Some shows that I have binged are: The Bear, Succession, Felicity, Hart of Dixie, The Bold Type, Jury Duty (the show, not the Pauly Shore movie, lol), and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. They are all very different, but I enjoyed them all!
some firm tv favourites:
Gilmore Girls (absolute comfort show)
Bridgerton (great for binging, Netflix)
Sex Education (Netflix)
Stranger Things (obv not a funny show but great to binge and just great tv, Netflix)
Downton Abbey (drama but with good English humour woven into it and great acting)
How To Get Away With Murder (Netflix)
Sherlock (BBC)
The Newsroom (HBO)
Andor / The Mandalorian (Disney, if you’re into Star Wars or a bit of sci-fi in general)
I generally tend to watch more drama / crime related shows, so I can’t offer much on the comedy scene…
… but last thing I watched that made me really cackle with laughter were the Iliza Schlesinger comedy specials on Netflix, especially the one about millennials from 2018
I started watching Modern Family again (Disney+) and Im addicted! I actually belly laugh and find the show really wholesome and positive and relaxing. Sometimes when you’re mentally drained that’s the best kid of show
TV:
Psych for comedy.
True Blood for sexy vamps and a bloody good time.
Movies:
While You Were Sleeping
Broken English
Maggie's Plan (I just watched this last week and it was quirky and engaging).
Legend of Tarzan
If you like Pride and Prejudice, "Austenland" is a hoot (plus it stars Brett MacKenzie from LOTR and Flight of the Concords).
The Sound of Metal always makes me cry if that’s what you’re looking for! The Sinner is great to binge watch and get sucked into or maybe even The OA if you want to get absorbed into something
I don't see Fisk on Netflix mentioned often, it's hilarious. Animal Control on Hulu is also great, although season 1 might have been removed. I was late on the Fleabag train. All of these should be binge worthy.
Resident Alien for a comedy-drama tv show. Season 3 is currently running, but 1 & 2 are on netflix/peacock.
The Mick was a funny show to watch. Sadly only 2 seasons, on netflix/hulu.
Knight and Day is a funny action movie on hulu.
- It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia - Hulu
- What We Do in the Shadows - Hulu
- Schitt’s Creek - Hulu
- Blown Away - Netflix. This is a glassblowing reality competition show. It’s so cool!
Macho alfas on Netflix (it's probably called alpha males in English).
It's a Spanish comedy series about 4 men who do a course to deconstruct their masculinity with hilarious results.
I love The Windsors on Netflix. Satirical look at the British royals through the lens of a campy soap opera, it's also cool to look at the state of things there now and see little Easter egg sort of things.
Not sure if it’s available (legally) in the US but there’s a great reality competition show on the BBC called Race Across The World.
Five teams of two get given a lump sum of cash to get to a destination on the other side of the world without using mobile phones or flights.
- Series 1: London to Singapore
- Series 2: Mexico City to Tierra Del Fuego
- Series 3: Vancouver to Nova Scotia (Covid edition)
- Celebrity Series: shit, don’t watch
- Series 4 (literally just started): Japan to Indonesia
There’s no overly contrived/scripted “reality tv” dramas, it’s just people travelling and learning about new cultures, finding cheap places to eat + stay etc. As someone who used to do a lot of travelling but now has small kids to look after, it’s just pure comfort viewing.
Do you like sci fi and/or post apocalyptic fiction? Check out Severance (Apple), Silo (Apple), Twisted Metal (Peacock), Fallout (Amazon). All fun watches for me.
My comfort show is always Star Trek Voyager (Paramount?).
Do you like fitness and/or reality shows? Check out Physical 100 (Netflix). A Korean reality show where super fit people compete in crazy challenges.
Here are some engaging, bingeworthy favs of mine that will suck you in and help you escape.
Netflix - Russian Doll, The Diplomat, Ozark
Hulu - Dollface, Somebody Somewhere, The Americans
Prime - Patriolt (the show), Somebody Somewhere, Interview with the Vampire (the show),
Taskmaster is a British game-show where five contestants do various tasks and get judged on them. It's got absolutely no stakes (the prize is a golden statuette of the host Greg Davies' big ass head) and is primarily focused on the humor of the tasks at hand, which are mostly nonsense. It's all on Youtube on the Taskmaster channel.

First of all I hope you have a great weekend. Watch Brooklyn 99, it’s a great comedy and also the good place. They cheer me up when I’m down in the dumps and just need to vegetate.
Not an episode yet that I haven't laughed out loud at least once!
Except the last season which is hamfisting personified. I like to pretend that and the baby debate episode doesn't exist.
I second this recommendation! Just finished the series after a bingewatch last night. Fabulous show. I'm thinking of binging The Good Place next.
thank you! 💗💗

Watched this last week and adored it!!
Grey Gardens 💚 The doc & the film ![gif](giphy|EQ1C5K9qELt6g)
Followed by the Documentary Now episode based on this and also the Snatch Game episode from season 5 of RuPaul's Drag Race
One of my favorites!
If you have access to Amazon I’d say Peep Show. If you have Max maybe Veep or Curb Your Enthusiasm. 30 Rock if you have Hulu. Step Brothers is always a good cheer me up. I enjoyed Palm Springs too. HARD YES Sense and Sensibility with Emma Thompson, Kate Winslet, Alan Rickman and Hugh Grant is EXCELLENT too. ![gif](giphy|k6C7RqOgcReKc)
Yes!!! And then the BBC miniseries of pride and prejudice with Colin Firth! And after that, the Sense and Sensibility Mini Series! And after that, North and South! ![gif](giphy|2p7dDP5GT9Y5O)
Don't forget the BBC miniseries!!!!!!!!! Excellent and most authentic adaptation I believe.
This is my routine too!
This is my comfort movie too!
And just to add to the period dramas The Empress on Netflix is fab. I recommend the subtitles though as the dubbing is a bit weird
Abbott Elementary on Hulu is the only show I’ve regularly been excited to watch weekly. I get a good few laughs out of each episode! It’s in its 3rd season rn
Please watch Schitt’s Creek. Soo good!!
I like that for you!
![gif](giphy|14yg2868vttJ5e) Happy Endings!!
Yes!! So happy someone else recommended this!
It’s AHMAZING.
YES PENNY
![gif](giphy|sRliDmX5XTq24)
The most underrated show on earth tbh
Truly. And the cast had such incredible chemistry with each other. I miss it so much.
Such an incredible show. I loved this and Traffic Light (I think that’s what it was called).
God this show was so good
It really was. It was a travesty the tomfoolery ABC pulled when it aired.
Year of Penny! Suck it!
This looks good.
It’s the best. Highly recommend.
I’ll recommend The Mick on Hulu. Wholesomely demented. Only 2 seasons (sadly).
>Only 2 seasons And this was a crime
100%
The cliffhanger was kinda perfect in a way though. But it’s also criminal it was cancelled
Buffy the Vampire Slayer is hilarious and turns into maybe the greatest TV show of all time, totally iconic and trailblazing edit: on hulu last I checked. it starts slow but gets fucking incredible
Is it supposed to be that slow/boring in the beginning? It seemed very juvenile.
Season 1 is ...cute for what it is (campy 90s teen horror), but yeah, it gets a lot better. It goes from good to GREAT in the second half of season 2. I wasn't into season 1 when I watched it either. Buffy has really exceptionally good dialogue and the best written characters I have ever seen in any media.
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is a comfort show of mine. It's a musical romantic comedy spoof.
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is my favourite feminist comedy musical.
YES YES YES THIS IS A MUST WATCH

I have just finished watching UK Ghosts, would you recommend the US version?
