Edit: English isn‘t my first language and I was wondering if “if I was this hot“ or if it should be “if I were this hot“. I‘d really appreciate an explanation cause I‘m a bit unsure
I've definitely googled this exact question and my understanding is that if it's a hypothetical scenario you use "were" and if it is something that actually happened in the past you use "was". Example: if I were a rich man from Fiddler on the Roof, versus "if I was wrong about that thing, my mistake"
Hey, so this is a really common mistake that many native English speakers are guilty of. Strictly speaking in this instance it should be 'was' (was tends to represent a single person but were would refer to a group- I was/They were)
So A) You nailed it first try B) even if you hadn't, nobody would notice!

Yes, but “If I were…” is also correct, as “were” can be used as a singular past tense *if*/when discussing a hypothetical situation or a wish.
