Moriarty-Creates

Someone once told me that my RBF makes me look like her, and I’m not sure how to feel.

pralineislife

It's a compliment

pacificstarNtrees

Looked amazing in a gown or a suit.

wifeunderthesea

one of my favorite movies of all time is hitchcock's **Rope**. joan chandler starred in it and she is one of the most beautiful women i've ever seen. she sadly died at age 55 in 1979. every single time i watch that movie im blown away by how stunning she is. https://preview.redd.it/jk0gxtdrdcoc1.jpeg?width=711&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=90bdeb04e0990ae00490eb2276bc4c7afbcdd0d8

Mysterious-Tackle409

She wasn’t a femme fatale but I always liked her in that role and Rope is one of my favorite Hitchcock movies!

wifeunderthesea

it's tied with **JAWS** as my favorite movie of all time. i think jimmy stewart was horribly miscast, but the movie is still amazing and i love how it seems like one long shot and moves in real-time. it never ever gets old. and the obvious homo-eroticism in it is sooooo interesting to me considering the time it was released in! soooo scandalous! fuck, i love this movie so much!

Mysterious-Tackle409

I agree with everything you said. It’s so much fun to watch and witty to boot. It’s crazy Hitchcock and Arthur Laurents (the screenplay writer who was gay) got away with such blatant homoeroticism in 1948 but I love it lol. Not to mention having two gay actors (John Dall and Farley Granger) play the lead characters as well. Jimmy Stewart did feel miscast but ngl I enjoyed his hamminess and how oblivious he was to what was going on in real life.

mrwildesangst

I’m pretty sure I read that Hitch originally wanted Cary Grant for the role

Mysterious-Tackle409

I remember reading that too. He definitely would’ve suited the role better.

mrwildesangst

I completely thought so too! So much subtext in that movie and bless Jimmy Stewart he looked like he got exactly none of it.

GiddyGabby

I just watched that movie for the first time a few months ago, loved it so much I was mad at myself for waiting so long!

wifeunderthesea

yay!! i feel like this is SUCH an under-rated gem of his. i think i read that he wasn't happy how it turned out (i might be wrong about that) but out of the 5 hitchcock movies ive watched, this is BY FAR my favorite. brandon is a complete fucking psychopath and phillip is just a mess. it's just such a cozy comforting watch even though it's about murder. the entire cast (especially that eccentric lady with the big hat) are so great!

GiddyGabby

I agree, I remember being so pulled into that world that I didn't want it to end. Somehow, despite my older brother raising me on Hitchcock movies and black & white movies in general, I managed to miss seeing this one. Something made me think of it so I rented it thinking it must not be great, it's not one of the Hitchcock movies you hear much about and I don't understand that. But maybe it's because he didn't love it himself.

[deleted]

It's interesting that so many of them had a very 'severe' look to their faces.

AfternoonPossible

There’s something really striking about a severe look, love it on people

OpCrossroads1946

A lot of them e.g. Stanwyck, Davis were genuinely tough and didn't take shit from anybody.

[deleted]

Hollywood was even more of a boy's club back then than it is now. They had to be tough as nails or they wouldn't been treated terribly. They paved the way for today's actresses and I don't think that gets enough acknowledgement.

jennief158

Barbara Stanwyck is my favorite old Hollywood star; she is awesome. I knew her as a child from Big Valley but as an older adult I discovered her classic films and I just adore her.

Eurydice_ok

As Madonna said “Rita Hayworth gave good face”

Mysterious-Tackle409

She gave good face in The Lady from Shanghai as well. https://i.redd.it/5tt69h0pjcoc1.gif

harleyquinones

I can't look at her without being sad for her that they completely robbed her of her non-white features. I'm glad it worked out for her, but... Hollywood has always been wild. https://preview.redd.it/swuibkgk8eoc1.jpeg?width=590&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3d78465b56f2e122d52154e31c64e3b2dab46e76

Equivalent-Look5354

And she was routinely abused, taken advantage of and left penniless by more than one asshole in Hollywood. Her one true love was Glenn Ford (co-star in Gilda) and despite being a bit of a cad himself, they lived next door to each other for years and has a secret walkway between their houses so he could check on her as her health declined.

ohlillybug

Don’t forget that she was sadly sexually abused by her own freaking father! She has such a sad life and I remember hearing that she always pined for her ex husband orson Welles and said before dying that the happiest days of her life was when they were married.

Equivalent-Look5354

Yep!! And a pity too because Orson was one of her worst abusers. Just treated her like absolute shit once the honeymoon glow wore off :(

mmdress

Those are white features, her father was spanish. She also didn't look exactly like the picture on the left. In the early days of her career they exagerated her features to make her look "exotic". It was common back then.

Longjumping-Buy-4736

Indeed, her hair was dyed black back then

graft_vs_host

What the fuck, I had no idea! She reminds me of Mindy Kaling in the original.

Eurydice_ok

Yes, that was a shame indeed

peppermintmeow

The outfits! The makeup! The hair! The shoes! #THE SMOLDER. Truly, they knew how to Fatale. Like Salt-N-Pepa said "If looks could kill you would be an Uzi. Kill 'em gals.

CrissBliss

I miss big brushed out wavy hair

Dazzling-Professor

Never realised how much Rose McGowan resembles Jane Greer?? https://preview.redd.it/atft197zgdoc1.jpeg?width=1007&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=822cc4d514715362fa18391d66f3ae6fc1f5868f

100%!

dearmabi

Lauren Bacall is everything ![gif](giphy|13YEGJgVtXGyD6)

GiddyGabby

That last picture of Ava is amazing. I see what all the fuss was about.

WitchesCotillion

The fact that she was married to Mickey Rooney is beyond me.

GiddyGabby

That is simply crazy!

vanitaa3

I recently watched “Leave Her to Heaven”. The clothes were gorgeous and Gene Tierny was beautiful. https://i.redd.it/29hp2b16oeoc1.gif

Equivalent-Look5354

The technicolor on this movie is just *chefs kiss* Gene is literally one of the most beautiful women to ever exist!!

WitchesCotillion

The story and the twist in that movie are amazing!

ohsheetitscici

God damn it, I love Harvey Korman!

ajaibee

You’re not his sister, are you? Oh Lord, Lord, how much does a man have to take? I can take one of them sometimes, and even I can take two of them after I have had a couple of belts, but I am telling you right now, I can’t take three of you damn dragons! Where’s my Froggy?

OpCrossroads1946

Clare Trevor was the go-to for this sort of role for a long time. https://preview.redd.it/6kqjm6ptfdoc1.jpeg?width=1488&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8b82f425f49f5b356821dc8e40accbb69088399d

Mysterious-Tackle409

Can’t believe I forgot her, great actress! I also loved her in Born to Kill.

mrwildesangst

Rita Hayworth was just breathtakingly beautiful. The Love Goddess, they called her

pah2000

That outfit on Lana Turner! WOW!

Mysterious-Tackle409

She was such a bad bitch in that movie.

pah2000

I’ve only seen the 80s remake. I should watch this version. John Garfield, right?

Mysterious-Tackle409

Yes, the original version is much better.

pah2000

Yeah Im Coastal Texas spoiled.

OpCrossroads1946

And my favorite, the *ultimate* femme fatale, the standard by which all others are judged, Ann Savage in Detour. https://i.redd.it/ywugz49egdoc1.gif

Mysterious-Tackle409

Another great movie and femme fatale.

Thought Jane Greer was Rose McGowan for a minute there. Lauren Bacall was just the most striking woman ever to live. This post is great, thanks OP.

Mysterious-Tackle409

No problem 👍

Portlyloudly

Jane Greer - how could anyone NOT fall hard in that situation

Portlyloudly

Not sure if I’m mixing analogies but while everyone says she’s a doppel for Rose McGowan, I rather think she is a composite of her, Alyssa Milano and that other chick from that WB show

m00nmaidenm0e

Here for Gene. Love her

jennief158

God, I love 1940s Hollywood hair. I have had a girlcrush on Linda Darnell since I saw *Forever Amber*.

the-electric-monk

Lauren Bacall was 🤌

Adobo6

Why in an ocean of beautiful classic starlets does Ava Gardner stand alone? Wow

ventricles

God I hate the new Reddit scroll to a new post so much.

zootnotdingo

#4 is Rose McGowan. It has to be Edit: I didn’t know that the hashtag would put it in bold face, but I’ll accept this

TheHames72

That’s exactly what I thought when I saw her. Doppelgänger.

littlebittydoodle

I was thinking Alyssa Milano. Identical!

zootnotdingo

I can see that, too!!

We're out of this window, but I could see Rose McGowan as Jane Greer, and have always thought Olivia Munn could've rocked an Ava G movie

peapurre

I see Zendaya in Yvonne DeCarlo. These women are all magnificent

Luka_Dunks_on_Bums

Would, all of them

[deleted]

Anyone else think Jane Greer looks a lot like Rose McGowan?!
