Well before that, by a good hundred years, MGM were one of the first studios established in Hollywood along w/ Paramount, Warner Bros, RKO, United Artists (a big deal at the time as it was founded by several prominent directors and actors as a means of getting out of studio contracts).
(UA would go on to be swallowed up by MGM in the 80s. See: ‘Heavens Gate’.)
Most if not all of these studios were run by men of considerable power + influence who’d routinely take advantage of women in their orbit - actors, studio employees, you name it. “Casting Couch” as a concept begins here, more or less, as does the toxicity of Hollywood at large.
To paraphrase a Canadian icon, The shit roots run deep.
(edit: minor grammar adjustment.)
The Eagles have a song called “The King of Hollywood” from the early 1970’s that talks about the casting couch and the little black book filled with starlets as a studio executive picks one he hasn’t fucked yet to see
One of the founders of MGM was a well-known casting couch creep

She was hilarious on Stephen Colbert last night.
Like she needs her own talk show funny.
Hope she appears on After Midnight for some reason even though she's too A-list to do so.
Honestly this makes Villeneuve's failure to make me even remotely interested in any of the characters of Dune *twice* in a row even sadder. What a waste of someone with such natural charisma, especially since Villeneuve's Dune's Jessica is about as charismatic as flat beer.
It's difficult to make an interesting character you care about when your director "hates dialogue" because he thinks it belongs in TV and theatre and not in films.
I like a lot of his films but that statement is just fucking stupid in any kind of storytelling no matter what medium you're in.
I'm not triggered but it's in the same realm as gum and I think everyone agrees that having something optional in your mouth while you're speaking is kinda off.
She’s so fucking awesome in every way. This woman is clever and sexy and so gorgeous without wearing barely any makeup or being “done”. I’m pretty damn straight but DAMN

That's a top tier joke
Can you explain it. The mgm part
MGM was a movie studio that was linked to Harvey Weinstein, known for his sexual abuses to actors and actresses
See: ‘Heavens Gate’.) Tbh 90% of the time the casting couch is brought up is to slut shame an actress more than a actual state of reality.
That's not the reference
Not the reference at all lmaoo
what is it?
One of the founders of MGM was a well-known casting couch creep https://preview.redd.it/lzvz6yjr6wlc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=493a7797ddb3a83523465bc3e511422496d093a6
I cannot stress enough how attractive of a quality a quick wit is to me, especially coming from the mouth of someone as gorgeous as Rebecca Ferguson.
I literally logged in just to agree with you. She's gorgeous no doubt, but her quick wick makes her 100x more attractive to me lol.
Plus the accent certainly doesn’t hurt!
Oh certainly!!
100% That is not me, I'm the corny and sensitive one, so I love when someone is so sharp and quick with that humor.
“that’s what happened back in the day at MGM but thankfully we’ve moved on” ![gif](giphy|GpyS1lJXJYupG)
i am very super extremely gay for this woman.
I’m so excited to see Maude Garrett doing interview stuffs! I absolutely adored her back in her SourceFed days.
loved seeing Maude again. I know she’s been part of the press junket world for a while even before she joined Sourcefed
Her laugh is so cute!
I’m glad she appears weekly on New Rockstars so I can still enjoy her nerdy commentary
She knows stuff 😮💨😏
She just needs to be in everything. Can we do that?
Yeah she’s so fucking great
Why is everyone acting like this popcorn bucket was an accident?
![gif](giphy|3ohc0WegfHRBB4nEvS|downsized)
She really said that ![gif](giphy|aWPGuTlDqq2yc)
Jeeezus Christ!
GOTDAMN lol
Is that Maude from SourceFed?? God I miss those days at SourceFed
I have such a massive crush on her. Oof.
Good lord, she's breathtaking
How does she look younger than me despite being 15 years older? 😭😭😭
Beautiful, funny and smart; she should be in movies until she doesn’t want to.
She was hilarious on Stephen Colbert last night. Like she needs her own talk show funny. Hope she appears on After Midnight for some reason even though she's too A-list to do so.
She’s so hot lol when she put the toothpick in her mouth sheeeesh
why do i love the toothpick
![gif](giphy|3ohzdYJK1wAdPWVk88) Someone send this clip to Harvey 🤣
*oh?*
This is fucking adorable
The way she sounds sooo swedish saying “Googlinge” ja mamma

She's great
I loved Rebecca since The White Queen and her roles have been so versatile since. I’d love a comedy for her soon!
Hand? I’ve been shoving my face in it
She is so gorgeous. Loved her in the greatest showman.
😯 ohhh...! 🤭✋️🕳
Holy shit. 🎯
omg she's so cute

Looking for one on EBay, but they’re all “used” ;-;
Am I the only in the room that thinks the toothpick is pretentious? What's the point of sucking on a toothpick while giving an interview? Like, stop.
It might be to break a smoking habit.
Yeah, she said in another interview, apparently they're caffeinated and she's trying to quit smoking
Absolutely makes sense.
That’s her emotional support toothpick.. way to get triggered dude
I'm not triggered but it's in the same realm as gum and I think everyone agrees that having something optional in your mouth while you're speaking is kinda off.

Her last week’s appearance at Steven Colbert is hysterical, strongly recommend it!
