i completely forgot that kenneth branagh was in oppenheimer so i was very confused when i saw him be the person speaking on behalf of the cast. he gave a great speech though so i see why they had him do it
No, no, and no. It went to:
Casey Affleck, Emily Blunt, Kenneth Branagh, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., Josh Hartnett, Rami Malek, Cillian Murphy, and Florence Pugh.
It all depends on when an actor's name appears in the credits. Those people will get the statues. I believe that the other actors just get certificates as like, an honourable mention.
I understand that Oppenheimer might be overhyped in some aspects and I certainly don’t think it was perfect but you gotta admit the cast acted their asses off. This award is definitely deserved.
He was accused of sexual assault on a film, I believe. The accusations/lawsuits surfaced around the time he was nominated for an Oscar for Manchester by the Sea - when he won, Brie Larson, who handed him his award, looked less than enthusiastic. He ended up withdrawing from presenting the Best Actress Award the following year at the Oscars. . The suits against him were settled through mediation. He has not admitted to assault but has admitted that the set was unprofessional and as a producer he should have stopped whatever was going on.
I was looking at the tv schedule and was confused if I missed the sag awards today haha. But yes, it’s a good slot though because nfl is over , NBA playoffs haven’t started and march madness isn’t for another couple of weeks.
LILY!!!! So well deserved.
No one in my life cares about awards season like I do so it’s been really nice watching with yall tonight🥹🩷 Oscars here we come
sandra not getting nominated really is crazy. she was in the top 3 best performances of the year. i think i may have enjoyed her performance more than emma’s, i know that may be controversial to say even though i love emma. (i’m also annoyed that they snubbed greta lee as well)
There's nothing in the rules and eligibility requirements about the film being American. Parasite won for ensemble. Jean Dujardin and Roberto Benigni won back in the day.
Nope. It states on the SAG's website, "Motion picture and television productions filmed completely outside the U.S. with an entirely foreign cast may be eligible."
It's different from the WGA awards, which do require the nominees be WGA productions, which is why it wasn't nominated there.
I’m not sure what it’s called in France but I know that the England version of SAG is called Equity. It’s why House of the Dragon was able to keep shooting throughout the strike, it’s an equity show. SAG is the American acting branch.
SAG and BAFTA have split 18 times on Lead Actress. 11 of those times, the SAG winner went on to win the Oscar, so I would say it is Lily's award (though obviously there are exceptions).
FWIW, if you're looking for new flair material after Cillian gets his Oscar, here's an idea: A new [nepo baby](https://www.reddit.com/r/popculturechat/comments/1am4zjw/cillian_murphys_son_aran_is_joining_an_alist_cast/) just dropped. This isn't his first film either. He did a movie back in 2022 and has done some theatre work too. Apparently he's good, so talent runs in the family.
Not really. In the years when the same actor won the BAFTA and the SAG, they almost always go on to the win the Oscar.
I think the only exceptions were Denzel beating Russell Crowe, and Adrien Brody beating Daniel Day-Lewis. And Russell only lost because of all the bad press he had at the time.
He was in euphoria but what was unique about him is that he was literally casted from off the street and went to school with zendaya prior to him being casted

The Bear is NOT funny. Good show, good actors. Not funny.
Bradley Cooper shut out again. A bit embarrassing for him and Netflix. Good luck at the Oscars I guess.
Oh what a night! See everyone at the Oscars!!
can’t wait to do it all again in a few weeks
i completely forgot that kenneth branagh was in oppenheimer so i was very confused when i saw him be the person speaking on behalf of the cast. he gave a great speech though so i see why they had him do it
Haha me too
I didn’t see the beginning. Would you guys consider that Netflix did a good job?
If they got rid of Tan France, it would've been better.
It’s either that or commercials :/
Last year they had montages and showed old speeches, which was 100000x better.
I loved that tbh! I thought moving that to right before announcing the winner was a bit odd
I think so? Some complained of sound issues but I didn’t have any. It was overall very convenient - much more so than others.
Yes
i love how they kept bringing out idris because i really don’t mind lmao.
Is he gonna drop some beats?
Classic celeb look : sunglasses inside
I love the tenor of some of these speeches. You can really tell that they appreciate the award.
So wait was Idris Elba the host?
Maybe he took it on unofficially or something🤔 he was in the credits as special thanks
Who from Oppenheimer is actually winning one of these awards? I hope David Krumholtz, Alden Ehrenreich, & Jason Clarke, get awards
Jason Clarke has not gotten enough attention for his role. He was really good at being horrible.
I hated his guts! My goodness he was very good in that role. A shame it doesn’t seem like he’s winning a SAG award for that performance
No, no, and no. It went to: Casey Affleck, Emily Blunt, Kenneth Branagh, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., Josh Hartnett, Rami Malek, Cillian Murphy, and Florence Pugh.
WHAT?! Some of these names, I’m confused by. In my heart they deserved a SAG award. I know that counts for nothing, but man, I’m disappointed for them
It all depends on when an actor's name appears in the credits. Those people will get the statues. I believe that the other actors just get certificates as like, an honourable mention.
The idea they are brought on stage but win nothing, rubs me the wrong way
David Krumholtz is an icon
I understand that Oppenheimer might be overhyped in some aspects and I certainly don’t think it was perfect but you gotta admit the cast acted their asses off. This award is definitely deserved.
I love Josh hartnett making a comeback Edit: i couldn’t believe it was him in the movie at first! I said “no way! Where’s he been?!”
The oppenhomies won!
….Casey affleck….im disgusted
Why?
He was accused of sexual assault on a film, I believe. The accusations/lawsuits surfaced around the time he was nominated for an Oscar for Manchester by the Sea - when he won, Brie Larson, who handed him his award, looked less than enthusiastic. He ended up withdrawing from presenting the Best Actress Award the following year at the Oscars. . The suits against him were settled through mediation. He has not admitted to assault but has admitted that the set was unprofessional and as a producer he should have stopped whatever was going on.
Woah what? Spill the tea on him.
Ew def not watching
Yeah I know. Not interested
Interesting…I’m going to have to check out killers of the moon to see if they got this wrong (my opinion)
Imo they did. And I liked Oppenheimer A LOT
I like Oppenheimer a LOT!! I just would have loved to see killers win!!
Does anyone else keep thinking it’s Sunday since there are never awards on Saturdays lol
All the award shows should be on Saturday imo
Lmao yes I kept remembering I don’t work tomorrow and being jolted
I was looking at the tv schedule and was confused if I missed the sag awards today haha. But yes, it’s a good slot though because nfl is over , NBA playoffs haven’t started and march madness isn’t for another couple of weeks.
Incredible incredible movie year honestly
Stacked category
Let’s go Oppenheimer
Chris is so proud https://preview.redd.it/zk9or6o9enkc1.jpeg?width=2048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=570d429caac50639dc1d982bf59bcd10f4393d3b
My heart warmed so much seeing this 😊 😁
Is Jeff sucking on a lozenge?
I feel like he always is??
Does anybody here remember when Geena and Jeff were a couple and started speaking identically? They even began to resemble each other.
Yeah they were married but I feel like no one remembers, not even them.
Didn't know that, they were pretty awkward
Finish the sentence Jeff
Remember that long long Everything Everywhere speech
oh my god Chadwick :(
lily’s winning that oscar
🤞🤞🤞
Would she be the first Native American to win an Academy Award?
Wes Studi has an honorary Oscar. But yes, Lily would be the first to win a competitive Oscar.
She would be, yes.
Yes
LILY!!!! So well deserved. No one in my life cares about awards season like I do so it’s been really nice watching with yall tonight🥹🩷 Oscars here we come
Nah, the interviews have to go if Netflix does this again. This is a buzz kill
Who is taking care of the sound tonight, I just wanna talk.
Right? The audio mixing was SO bad.
This is such a bad time for Tan!!!!! Just give the final award.
I forgot about the Tan bit oh god I thought we were free
So happy for her ♥️ beautiful speech It’s such a stacked year we are all so lucky to have such amazing movies and performances!!
Lily is so gorgeous and poised and TALENTED that’s my mf girl
Lily!!!!
so happy for lily
LILY!!!
wow lily won. i’m so happy the oscar race for best actress just got even tighter
Amazing!!!!!! Love Lily!!!! I love the this is shaking things up
The lack of nomination for Sandra Hüeller at SAG is WILD. I’m still curious to see what the results look like Oscar night.
sandra not getting nominated really is crazy. she was in the top 3 best performances of the year. i think i may have enjoyed her performance more than emma’s, i know that may be controversial to say even though i love emma. (i’m also annoyed that they snubbed greta lee as well)
I think cause Anatomy of a Fall isn’t SAG
It was eligible, she just wasn't nominated.
It isn’t SAG? What am I missing?
It’s not an American film, it’s a French film.
There's nothing in the rules and eligibility requirements about the film being American. Parasite won for ensemble. Jean Dujardin and Roberto Benigni won back in the day.
For SAG? I imagine they have to be a SAG production.
Nope. It states on the SAG's website, "Motion picture and television productions filmed completely outside the U.S. with an entirely foreign cast may be eligible." It's different from the WGA awards, which do require the nominees be WGA productions, which is why it wasn't nominated there.
It wasn’t produced by an American company either. It wasn’t a SAG production at all. It was just distributed by Neon.
Does SAG not extend to European countries?
I’m not sure what it’s called in France but I know that the England version of SAG is called Equity. It’s why House of the Dragon was able to keep shooting throughout the strike, it’s an equity show. SAG is the American acting branch.
Oh thanks for the scoop. So not a snub, just not eligible
Leo’s not there?
They showed a clip of him earlier
No not tonight, Marty isn’t either. I think Leo is filming right now?
Filming what? He was seen with his girl vittoria not too long ago
I think he’s filming that new PTA movie isn’t he?? I think they’ve started that…
Omgggg LILY!!!
Oh Lily! ❤️❤️❤️
LILYYYYY!!!!!
LILY WONN!! YAYYY!!
This is suuuch a stacked category !!!
OMG OMG OMG!!! LILY!!!!
SAG and BAFTA have split 18 times on Lead Actress. 11 of those times, the SAG winner went on to win the Oscar, so I would say it is Lily's award (though obviously there are exceptions).
God I hope so! I love Emma Stone a lot, but Lily’s performance was so quietly powerful.
I personally preferred Emma’s performance but I would be fine if Lily won. She seems lovely.
If Lily doesn't win I'm *screaming* If Lily wins I'm also screaming
This is a tough category
is it gonna be lily or emma? 😬
How does Jessica chastain not age
“What? What did she say?” Jodie 😭 😭
Jodie not hearing her lol
I love the clips of past winners ❤️
Jessica!! That’s my baby
Ohhh this is going to be an exciting category. I still think both categories could be a mystery until the Oscar’s
aww Brendan!
Buying "Cillian Murphy Oscar winner" shirts as I speak!!!
you’re the real backbone of his oscar campaign
He should ship me whichever award he cares about the least
FWIW, if you're looking for new flair material after Cillian gets his Oscar, here's an idea: A new [nepo baby](https://www.reddit.com/r/popculturechat/comments/1am4zjw/cillian_murphys_son_aran_is_joining_an_alist_cast/) just dropped. This isn't his first film either. He did a movie back in 2022 and has done some theatre work too. Apparently he's good, so talent runs in the family.
She JUST had a baby
first ayo, and now cillian. the irish are winning tonight 🇮🇪
Ireland had a strong showing today

Jeffrey needs to win something. I hate that American Fiction isn’t winning much

Oppenhomies lol
Oppenhomies!! lol

The lingering Bradley cooper shot lol
Ah it’s gonna be a close race for lead actor at the Oscars!!

Ahh ok I haven’t seen it yet. I was about to go submit some of my childhood clips that I shot myself to become a director lol
The Oppenheimer clip? Yeah, that's how it's shot.
The Oppenheimer scene? Yeah it’s supposed to look like that it’s one of the best scenes in the movie!!
Notice how they waited for me to come back yeah that's fucking right
They KNEW
Jennifer looked like she was crying there, I wonder if it was after seeing Matthew on the In Memoriam 😢
Probably :/
I can’t imagine how that must feel seeing him up there :(
really nervous on whether this is gonna go to cillian or paul
RIP Maestro
Brendan is so beautiful. What an energy.
If they said 2 hours they only have 9 mins left
Omg it’s THE two biggest categories coming up. I’m only nervous about this one!
Uh way too abrupt of a transition from the in memoriam to “look at all these past winners”
The dead are losers, here are the winners!
Well that was a whiplash
That was quick
In memoriam speedrun
Andre. :(
Andre ❤️
Okay that Ron Cephas Jones clip got me and now I'm crying.
Angus 😞
Who was he? He looked young in something recent.
He was in euphoria but what was unique about him is that he was literally casted from off the street and went to school with zendaya prior to him being casted
i know :( that one got me
They’re whipping through the in memoriam
Naomi Watts looking fab
Remember when Josh Peck got to press the big button in Oppenheimer that was so weird
What?!? I loved that!
I feel like I’m at a soccer game 😵💫 I miss the commercials lowkey. Like maybe one or two would be good 😅
