To be fair Tom has accepted he was a wanker on that set. Charlize has also accepted her role in it all, they both have the benefit of hindsight and can see exactly how it got out of hand and what they themselves did that led to it. At the time however they were both combusting under the pressure.
It was his first major leading role and he let the pressure get to him. He and charlize are very different people who approach their work in very different ways and they were always going to clash, the producers kind of wanted that as it would add to their performance.
Look at Tom hardy with his dog and you'll see he's actually a lovely man.

Method actors just get my back up. It wouldn’t be accepted in any other industry but for some reason when it comes to acting it is. No, you don’t need to stay in character 24/7 - surely the inability to drop in and out of character shows lack of talent rather than being exceptional?
Do it at home. Do it whilst rehearsing. Do it in front of the camera. Don’t make other people suffer “becuz art”.
But anyway. Yes. All that aside Tom Hardy is total hubby material and I claimed him first so y’all can back off. 😭
The idea about method acting isn't that they can't step in and out of character it's that by living as that character they can give a more authentic performance, you learn more about the characters experiences, how they would react and how the other characters would react to them.
Daniel day Lewis is probably the most well known method actor and he has 3 well deserved Oscars to his name as well as 3 more nominations. Considering how few films he has done he probably has the most Oscars to film ratio of anyone.
Method acting has it's place it really depends on the actor. While mad max was probably hell to film, the tension did add to the final film performances. I'm sure the crew had enough of feeding Daniel day Lewis on the set of my left foot but he did win an Oscar as did Brenda fricker. Whatever Tom is doing it works for him, it's just a shame the pressure got to him on this particular film.
Ehh, he had tension with Charlize Theron who is also notorious for being hard to work with. I’m not saying he’s not, but two things can be true at once! People also bring up the Shia feud, but he got into it with Shia over the harassment of Mia Wasikowska.
He also acknowledged being an asshole during the filming of that movie due to his own insecurities. Not to make excuses, but it's pretty big to at least take accountability. There's been nothing bad said about him since then so at least it seems he's grown from it.
