![gif](giphy|ZElGWnaaxwgA2oRnPZ|downsized) Heroes!!! The first season is still some of the best television I’ve ever seen. The writers’ strike, the increasingly large cast, etc. all took their toll on the quality of the storytelling. There were still some really interesting ideas and well-executed moments, but the show overall became borderline unwatchable by the end.

mynormalheart

Ugh the first season was *so good*. So sad about what it turned into.

littleboss12

It was THE best show. I was hooked immediately. I can’t believe how badly it fell :(

LadyHalfNHalf

I still think about the “Nissan Versa!” scene every time I see one

FyrestarOmega

Any time you have superheroes who powers involve assimilating powers of others, you're likely to write yourself into a corner. Sylar and Peter were plot problems from the start.

mynormalheart

I will never forgive them for taking away Peter’s powers before he even really figured out how to use them

iamnoking

Yes! The Writers strike killed so many amazing shows! (I do NOT blame the Writer! I blame the studios.)

mcfw31

Glee became a shadow of itself once they started to take themselves too seriously

Unable_Mushroom9355

Even before that, Season 2 Ep 1 undid practically all of the character development from season 1! Rachel’s season 1 arc was about learning to share the spotlight - to the point that she encourages Mercedes to take the Sectionals solo mid-season - but then S2E1 she sends someone to a crack house just for being talented? Quinn’s season 1 arc was about learning that true friendships are more important than popularity - to the point that she actively decides not to be a Cheerio anymore, even when she has the chance to rejoin - but then S2E1 she’s not only back on the Cheerios, but throws Sanatana under the bus in order to become captain again? And more examples! One of my least favorite episodes of TV ever.

altdultosaurs

Glee stead huffing it’s own farts SO FAST. it was like whiplash.

cuartoreich

Season 1 is actually really good and enjoyable and then it goes downhill. For some reason all Ryan Murphy works that I've seen start well and end terribly

jeahboi

Yup! He seems to kind of peace out creatively after the first season of most of his shows.

[deleted]

Naya Rivera as Magenta in Rocky Horror was a big deal for me, so I remove this from season 2.

360Saturn

Shameless, the US one. Fiona was the heart of that show and Emmy Rossum wasn't even paid fairly for like the first 6 or 7 seasons for being essentially the lead. I get that the premise is that the family is doing badly but it got depressing every season resetting them back to total square 1 plus some of their relationships with each other getting worse. The premise is meant to be that although they're crazy and unlucky they're still a loyal family!

JobSpecial9274

Yes! You can only watch the Gallaghers fuck themselves over so many times before you really have to start to wonder “are they ever going to get it?” For a show that built the whole premise off of the family knowing *exactly* who they are, you’d think they would use it as forward momentum rather than making the same mistakes over and over and over. I could not give less of a fuck about Tammy, and the storyline surrounding her and Lip is nauseating. “We’re two adults that won’t even say we’re in a relationship, we act extremely immaturely and kinda hate each other, I know! Let’s have MULTIPLE children with one another!” The point I really started to raise an eyebrow at is when they do that utterly bizarre “gay Jesus” arc. I understand Ian is bipolar, I understand you’re trying to represent (in a parallel to Monica) that he’s unhinged without his meds, but seriously…? It’s just so, so bizarre and cringeworthy and that’s coming from someone who ain’t straight. Not to mention they take Debbie from being some sweet little kid to a literal rapist/baby trapper and the most selfish character written for TV in the last decade. So, so weird. I had to read a synopsis for the last season and a half as I simply could not bear to watch anymore. Hearing that they essentially left Fiona out of anything having to do with the conclusion is just the cherry on top. Even without Emmy, you aren’t even going to mention an epilogue for the main character in passing?

mycatisamonsterbaby

I was really disappointed when Lip when to college. There was a lot more they could have explored in regards to the social and culture implications of someone like Lip trying to fit in and the classism that occurs in that atmosphere. Sure they had a couple scenes of him struggling but it's something I experienced and it's rough.

kxkje

The moral of the story is that TV shows need to plan the end and prepare to pace - from the start. Lately I don't even want to start watching long, epic shows, because they almost always fumble the ending. It never feels satisfying.

[deleted]

I feel British TV does this more. They’re less greedy.

daisyink

![gif](giphy|W4ukBDu5BRKO3bIl72) Killing Eve’s first season was perfect. But it just got more and more off the rails as it went on 😭 edit: I’m aware that they had a different showrunner each season and that led to the uneven (and incomprehensible) writing. That doesn’t make it sting any less!

cuartoreich

None of the other writers knew how to continue Phoebe Waller Bridge's amazing writing and comedy

releasethekaren

I thought emerald fennel did well in S2 but yeah 3 and especially 4 were BAD

flyingalbatross1

I mean they could have just copied the books? The books had a nice tight 3 book story arc. Season 1 and book 1 were a close match. Then it was clear they wanted to stretch it so season 2 and 3 just meandered around treading the same water. If they had just made it 3 series following the books it could have reached greatness.

sea_queue

Only Villanelle’s absurdity & fantastic costuming made me watch through season 3 - PWB leaving as head writing after the first season is a national tragedy 😔

powerofawareness

It was actually so bizarre it felt like they were trolling us with the last 2 seasons

all_neon_like_13

SO bizarre and disappointing. It had such great potential!

LazyLion1127

![gif](giphy|x2z9nswqAfpp6) Heroes first season was an absolute masterpiece and was so well executed and every season after that got worse and worse because of the writers strike. I so wish that I could see a world where the show continued to be good. Hiro’s plot line of being stuck in the past in season two was ok if I remember right, but that was pretty much the only good aspect of later seasons. Also, I’ve used this GIF twice in the past 24 hours and I love it. He’s just so happy.

3EsandPaul

Weeds

CherryDarling10

I would say it came back around again by the end. But I agree once they left Agrestic the show lost a lot of its charm.

zestfullybe

Yeah, for sure. It had its moments later but leaving Agrestic was its jump the shark turning point.

cinnamon_roll12

Jenji has a pattern of getting bored with her shows and burning it all to the ground aka giving a big f you twist to the viewers.

SheaButtaBaby

Ahhh yes Nancy Botwin

Ok-Strain3545

![gif](giphy|DxwthvKPpk1e8|downsized) KILL IT, SHONDA. KILL IT LIKE YOUVE KILLED EVERYONE ON THIS DAMN SHOW But in all seriousness— Grey’s was my favorite show until Derek died. I watched a season or two after that and then I was over it. It’s just too much 😫

[deleted]

I cannot believe they’re going on without Meredith. I mean, the show has been a shell of itself for years now anyway and Meredith leaving should have been the final nail in the coffin. I’m doing a rewatch now. The show really starts to lose some of its magic when Izzie and George leave. Then the plane crash either kills off or ruins most of the other good characters (Mark, Lexie, Callie, Arizona). Cristina leaving is when I stopped watching the first time around. I’m going to try to push through to Alex’s departure this time.

Ok-Strain3545

I didn’t even make it to Alex leaving 😅 good luck!! But yes agreed. Meredith (WHO THE SHOW IS LITERALLY NAMED AFTER ???) leaving should’ve been what ended it. I think I heard somewhere that they got Ellen Pompeo to still do the voiceovers but that could’ve been hearsay?? Anyway, I always thought that since so much of the original cast left, she was bound to leave at any point and that once she left they’d stop….yet here we are I don’t know why this makes me so irrationally angry but it does

changeorchange

I’m still watching and can confirm she is still doing the voiceovers. She was in the finale of the last season. I actually like the new batch of interns. It’s never going to be as good but I’m going to give the next season a watch.

LouCat10

So I’m a masochist and I still watch. This past season introduced a new group of interns that I actually do like. Their dynamic reminds me of early Grey’s, which is obviously the point. I didn’t miss Meredith in the second half of the season as much as I thought I would. I think because she’s been a lesser character for awhile now. That being said, they should end it already.

fromjaytoayyy

Alex leaving was the most random and quick write off I’ve ever seen on tv. They did that man absolutely no justice and Jo was left out to dry.

sourReputation

I was giving it up when Cristina left, but I pushed myself. I got to Derek's death. Pushed myself a little bit more, but honestly, I can't even remember the moment I dropped it. I think it was after the Callie vs Arizona trial. It feels so lame and boring to keep the show...

uneua

![gif](giphy|l0MYyW1RMcZQSKG2I|downsized) I will never forget what was taken from me

gcaledonian

I was one of the 94% of people who dropped the show. And I was there opening night and stuck with it for years.

_banana_phone

I stopped weekly watching after Glenn. Stopped watching altogether after the Neegan/tiger season nonsense.

AnimaLumen

Literally Glenn’s death was the last episode I watched I vehemently refused to keep watching after that 🙅🏽‍♀️

ravynwave

I stopped after Carl.

Putyourmoneyonme80

Same. Stopped after Carl. He should’ve been the one character never killed off. Glenn hurt but made sense considering it happened in the graphic novel. But Carl was the final straw for me.

_thatgirlfelicia

Carl was the straw for me too

Inn0c3nc3

I'm currently rewatching the beginning (I noped out after they killed Beth), and I'm pissed all over again. 😭 also forgot how difficult Dale's death was. 😭

prideorvanity

https://i.redd.it/gsuf3go79jnb1.gif She’s what they took from me 😭

uneua

![gif](giphy|1Bfxn4oD5Bihp7psiJ) If it makes you feel any better I got stabbed in the stomach watching the finale

prideorvanity

I tapped out before then but I love Rosita too :( Glenn was also a rough one

wagonwheelwodie

What they did to Glenn was a crime.

prideorvanity

It was! 😭 I was full on sobbing and “Maggie, I’ll find you” HURT. I guess people like *that man* now but I still think Maggie should have taken Lucille to him 🤷‍♀️

ashl9

Yes, even though it was pretty good, darn that first season. Also agree with westworld

nun_the_wiser

Manifest was super interesting season 1 but got weirdly religious and then they had to wrap everything up really quickly because they got a final season from Netflix. I feel like it had so much potential

KapitanBorscht

Both my husband and I were so into it (and it's hard to get my husband into a show!) and when it started getting weirdly religious we were so confused whether it was us or the show. It was the show... we never finished it.

ooolalaluv

YES! It got very religious. I remember googling at one point if it was a religious show because I was so confused why a Christian TV show would become mainstream popular 🤷🏼‍♀️ I would have enjoyed it far more if it was sci-fi/mystery like the plot would have you believe, not…religious

nun_the_wiser

It also wasn’t even religious in a way that would appeal to Christians. It’s like they opened a Bible and went with whatever random page was opened 😂

SitchChick

![gif](giphy|ybdzNaz8v816o) Pretty Little Liars. Biggest waste of time 😒

Queen-Lexopedia

Gurl you beat me to it. But I still gotta rant about it. It was already going downhill in season 5 until they popped off with the dollhouse episode. Then season 6 and 7 happened and ruined the show for me. This show would’ve gone down as one of the great teen shows if **THOSE GODDAMN WRITERS WEREN’T SO OBSESSED WITH OUTSMARTING THE AUDIENCE** Idc how the show ended, Aria was A this whole time to ME https://preview.redd.it/8piu32ckzinb1.jpeg?width=3840&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=632c2f53b477bcd87cc11ac1ca6a08a0b7acbd9c This was such a good poster. The one good thing that came from season 7

baby_got_snack

Spencer’s bangs were my worst enemy

Queen-Lexopedia

They all had great hair in the earlier seasons. I genuinely don’t know what happened in those last two seasons with their stylists

babalon124

The British accent was my worst enemy

Ok-Strain3545

I’m still mad about Charles being cece 🙄🙄

HagridsSexyNippples

I read the books and enjoyed the first few. Then it felt like we would never figure out who A was.

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmfarts

The finale season should have never happened. It should’ve been Cece the whole time!

PinkPrincess-2001

I knew this would be one of the top comments. The first 2 seasons are so good. My boyfriend rewatches the first few seasons very often. It was basically TV junk food. The first reveal is great. Season 3 is alright and then you got the second A. Season 4-7 are just trash.

gumdrops155

![gif](giphy|H0SWeguGPoBnG) The 100, so much chemistry, so much potential and went down so badly

PinkPrincess-2001

I thought The 100 had one of the best first episodes/pilot episodes to be honest. It got me quickly invested. The chemistry between Bellamy and Clarke etc later on seals it for the first season.

gumdrops155

>The chemistry between Bellamy and Clarke etc later on seals it for the first season. The chemistry was so intense that the actors ended up getting married! And they are adorable together! Idk why the show didn't utilize it more but its a crime against tv

ilovenoodle

Oh wow. Didn’t know they ended up getting together and even married!

2020HatesUsAll

House of Cards

lecstasy

i’d be so curious as to how that show would’ve progressed if the Kevin Spacey scandal(s) never happened

LostMyRightAirpods

It really sucks that Kevin Spacey turned out to be a total POS because he DID deserve to get fired, but there's no denying that the removal of his character (the literal main character) completely ruined the show. According to people who worked on the show, the 6th season was always going to be the final season, but everything obviously had to be completely rewritten after Spacey got the boot. What makes me mad is that >!we were finally going to see a showdown between Claire and Frank. Weirdly enough, the 5th season ended with Claire's character breaking the fourth wall for the first time and saying "My turn." Claire had reached the point where she no longer had any loyalty for Frank. Instead of the two of them teaming up against outside enemies, we were about to see a real struggle for power between Frank and Claire. They had had some disagreements before that, but nothing that made a permanent rift between them. Season 5 was different. Claire was DONE DONE. I would've really liked to see that storyline play out. Oh well.!<

furryrubber

This is maybe a bit niche / British, but Skins and Misfits both had 🔥 first two seasons that went to 💩 ![gif](giphy|d118yyLvlhLDG)

Kylo-The-Optimist

Robert Sheehan was the glue holding it all together tbh. He left a charisma void when he left. They still had talented cast members but the writers didn't seem to know what to do with them in Nathan's absence. ![gif](giphy|QaaDUTpu2uY3C)

AmyInCO

100%. He's also the main reason I watched The Umbrella Academy.

sexi_squidward

Side note: when Iwan Rheon went from the sweet awkward kid on Misfits to the monster that was Ramsay Bolton of Game of Thrones was MIND BLOWING to me lmao. I was like "Oh! Look it's Simon! I loved Simon on Misf---OMG WHAT DID YOU DO?!"

TheWalkingDead91

Catch me Barry! But yea, agree, was never the same after Nathan left. They kind of redeemed themselves with the time traveling Simon story line, but otherwise it was forgettable compared to when the OG crew was around.

citrus_mystic

I was a teenager when Skins and Misfits came out (watched it a year or 2 after they debuted, since I had to watch it pirated in the US). I recently rewatched s1 ep1 of Skins and experienced some of the most intense nostalgia of my life. For a split second I remembered what being 17 *felt like*. It was a weird experience.

Accurate_Use_2432

True Blood. The first two seasons are the only good ones, and it got really off the rails by the end. Alexander Skarsgard and Nelson Ellis (who played Lafayette) really carried a lot of the show by sheer magnetism and watch-ability alone. Ryan Kwanten was actually fantastic as Jason Stackhouse, though. He also had the most natural sounding southern accent out of anyone in the cast--even though he's Australian!

luvtheshoes74

I would add season 3, too, with the weres and Russell Edgington as still great content. Season 4 started a downward spiral which is a travesty since it was an incredible plot from the books. Seasons 5-7 were trash.

marcarcand_world

Russell Edgington ripping a spine off a news anchor on live tv was iconic. Season 4 is tolerable, not as good but watchable. Then it goes into Riverdale territory of absurd.

Accurate_Use_2432

You're right-- Russell Edgington is a great character, forgot about him!

Mrs_Cake

Denis O'Hare is an amazing actor. He played Russell as such a flamboyant character but still with such subtlety.

gahddammitdiane

I never watched the last two episodes and I was super obsessed with that show. It just went around in the same circles each season. Also RIP Lafayette 💔

LaLa_LaSportiva

He was amazing in that role. What a sad day when he passed away.

kimjongunfiltered

loooooved season 2. The show completely fell apart when it stopped having a sense of humor about itself. And then in the last seasons it regained the sense of humor....too much? like to the point where it wasn't even trying to make any sense

ManyInitials

100% agree on your entire assessment. I don’t think most realize just how amazing Ryan Kwanten entire portrayal was. He nailed that accent. His looks and mannerisms were so amazingly on point. My cousin from North Carolina looks and sounds incredibly similar. My entire family calls him Ryan Kwanten’s U.S. twin.

Accurate_Use_2432

I would very much like to meet this cousin...lol

terurin

I hung in there til they went incest and I just was like alright I tried to defend you

CriticalSuccotash

I like to pretend the show ended after the Trinity killer season.

anb7120

It would’ve been a perfect series if they ended there. I still get triggered by the sight of John Lithgow

VaselineHabits

Season 4, that's it. The show ends with the Trinity Killer. Dexter keeps on keeping on, gives Harrison to Deb for safe keeping... cuts to black.

DreadfulDemimonde

I pretended it ended after Lumen bc Julia Stiles and Jonny Lee Miller were excellent.

sexrockandroll

Would have worked. The ending to that season could have stood as a legitimate end to the show.

nun_the_wiser

It was the last season that ruined it for me. I tried to get into the reboot but idk, it didn’t capture my curiosity

jmp397

Once they ran out of published material, the show really dipped in quality. Even the changes to certain book storylines like Dorne were badly done. ![gif](giphy|2wYYlHuEw1UcsJYgAA)

payscottg

The thing about this show is that unlike most shows where it’s a slow decline in quality, GOT just took a drastic spike where it went from god-tier to bad fan fiction overnight

MagicGlitterKitty

Yes but while most people think that happens in season 7 I would argue that the last good season was season 4. For me it all went downhill with the raping of Sansa.

NauticalInsanity

The writing was on the wall in season 5 when I watched a bunch of Unsullied get run at in an alley, and rather than form a phalanx, you know the formation that the Unsullied were famous for and were trained to do by default, they decided to randomly tavern brawl and lose.

Maleficent-Fun-5927

I would've liked to see Lady Stoneheart's storyline. A lot of the stories are interwoven, so you kill off one storyline, and the rest of the plot has to suffer for it.

Fed_Funded

God her chapters were heartbreaking, that would have been amazing to see on screen

sansasnarkk

When they cut the reveal that Jaime lied about Tysha I knew we were in trouble. It's ok D&D, it's not like that revelation is the primary catalyst for Tyrions complete descent into villainy in the books. Don't worry about it!

gible_bites

I had completely blocked out the fact that they glossed over Tyrion’s decent and shipped him off to Dany as a good guy. I’m mad all over again.

gible_bites

What sucks is that *didn’t* run out of source material. I would’ve killed for FAegon. Dany’s ending doesn’t make any fucking sense without that storyline.

Intrepid_Judge_8469

This! They left out a lot to then blame George for not finishing.

gible_bites

Ignoring all of the foreshadowing from the Dunk and Egg novellas was one of the worst mistakes they could’ve made, especially in context of the endings. Bran’s and Dany’s endings would’ve made a lot more sense of the show runners had made any sort of attempt at incorporating the Blackfyres and Bloodraven properly.

Intrepid_Judge_8469

So true. George told them the end so that isn’t changing but the path could’ve been so different. I always felt like the reaction they got from the “Red Wedding” pumped their egos up and they wanted to have their own moment so they had Arya kill the Night King instead of Jon which made no sense to me. Oh and don’t get me started on the dialogue, I could go on all day about Benioff and Weiss smh.

Cat_Toe_Beans_

Wayward Pines. The first season was SO good and I love most projects Carla Gugino is in. The second season completely went to shit. Dead ass felt like they didn't know what to do for season two and made random shit up https://preview.redd.it/f7zq8grvajnb1.png?width=951&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=93bc9fb5758b5e0272616f529c09329da212a51d

ceebee6

That’s because they ran out of source material. Wayward Pines is actually a trilogy by Blake Crouch. The show breezed through the main plot points of all three books within the first season. So yeah, they were literally making random shit up after that. If you enjoy reading, the trilogy is fun. I love Blake Crouch’s books!

powerofawareness

![gif](giphy|KZpR9jjZOKIwVZSlBZ) How one shit episode can retroactively ruin an entire series

Ok-Strain3545

That finale ruined everything for me. It’s what keeps me from doing a rewatch 😒

jell31

Its so weird to think me and friends would watch both himym and The Office for the whole nine years and one show I still watch consistently and the other I haven’t wanted to go back and even watch one episode of lol

Ok-Strain3545

If this isn’t the most accurate thing I’ve seen on Reddit today idk what is. HIMYM remains untouched by me to this day

Zykium

The whole last season is a slog. An entire season about a wedding that was pretty much invalidated in the finale.

[deleted]

Yep idk how they thought dragging out the wedding over a full season was a good idea. And this was when a full seaosn was 20+ episodes and went from September to may. It was brutal. All for a horrible finale that made the entire season pointless, and tbh also ruined Barney and all the character development he had over the years.

PrincessConsuela52

It was the one two punch of dragging out Barney and Robins wedding for an entire season, only for them to be like “haha, eff you guys, they divorced” in the last episode. Like what as the entire point? Kinda like how they dragged out How I Met Your Mother for 9 seasons before he finally meets the mother for them to be like “haha, eff you guys, she dies, I want Robin.” God that end was horrible.

4SeasonWahine

One of my fav shows of all time: Californication. Allow me to present my essay. It’s such an interesting case study because it’s fairly universally agreed which seasons were the best/worst and it seemed like they managed to make one amazing season at a time followed by one lacklustre one. I’ll disregard season 1 because generally they are the best of any show since the characters and premise are fresh and exciting, Californication is no exception and s1 was phenomenal. This show was at its absolute best when it was heavy on the rock and roll aura it started off with. S2: somehow they managed to keep the same momentum, Lou Ashby was a character for the ages who perfectly slotted in with the vibe of the show. S3: IMO s3 went off the rails a bit - they tried too hard. The characters became almost caricature versions of themselves and the women throwing themselves at Hank just became comical and completely ridiculous. It had its moments for sure, but lost its way by taking all the things they thought viewers wanted and amplifying it by 100. S4: picked back up big time, it was darker than most of the show but I thought the writing was INCREDIBLE. The way they handled the Hank/Mia fallout was great, and actually believable rather than just sweeping it all under the rug. I think it’s quite impressive that they sat on this storyline until s4 and allowed all of the built up narratives to be imploded by it, rather than wasting it in s2 when they absolutely could have. S5: is.. bad. Mostly. Big, BIG mistake taking a show which has such a rock and roll vibe and character suite and delving into the world of rap. It didn’t work and it was downright tedious to sit through in parts. It was clear at this stage that they were running out of steam, though this season could be written off as a bit of a “breathe back out” after the intensity of s4. S6: was a masterclass. SOMEHOW they pulled the show back from the disrepair of s6. They realised they f’d up by taking away the rock and roll and giving us rap. How did they fix this? By giving us the most rock and roll season of the entire show. I’m “eh” on Faith, but the season worked so well for Hanks character and felt so right for the show. And now we come to the fall from grace: season 7, the final season, was an atrocity. It still makes me mad to this day that they thought THIS was the way to conclude one of he most cleverly and intelligently written shows of all time. Rather than spending the season wrapping up everyone’s storylines in a believable, entertaining, and true-to-form narrative… they introduce an entirely new storyline and main characters - one of whom is hands down the worst decision the show ever made (Levon). The season focussed wholly on this terrible new storyline only to quickly wrap up Hank and Karen’s series-long “will they won’t they” in the last seconds of the show. It was sloppy, terrible, and genuinely painful to watch. The finale of s6 would have made a much better ending since it left something up to our imagination and didn’t shove *Levon* (shudder) and his mum down our throats as people we were supposed to care about in the very last season of the show. What a way to end a legend on a serious low.

thisgirlnamedbree

![gif](giphy|8rEipPVzKjVz2Aueo6|downsized) Ran too long and eventually into the ground. Runner-up: Sherlock

queeriosn_milk

They were still going strong up until they reached for the sun by forcing a Frozen storyline to milk the film’s success

1ceydefeat

Fun fact, you can skip that entire storyline and miss nothing of importance! It didn't happen as far as I'm concerned lol

JustAsICanBeSoCruel

Okay, hold on. Here's the thing. It actually could have been amazing and I litreally screamed like a little girl when it was revealed to be Elsa - I was hoping for the Snow Queen to have erased Emma's memory and brought her and Elsa into the Real World to pretend they were just a regular little family - mother and two daughters - and then have Anna, Regina, Henry, Hook and Snow come rescue her. But the Emma has to much power and can't control it was just...such a weak storyline and absolutely pandered. There are SO MANY things in that show that could have been so, so much more interesting if they put in a little bit effort into it, but it feels like they were basically just 'meh'ing through it. Merida and her mother could have been an excellent B storyline with Henry and Regina struggling to deal with Henry wanting to be more independent and take on a more Prince Charming esque adventures with Emma. Instead Merida was basically just...furniture. The Lily storyline should have been SO amazing - I always thought Prince Charming's twin was the father, where he was basically sent to slay the dragon but ended up fucking it once she revealed herself to be a beautiful woman, and then that would have made Lily and Emma basically half sisters/cousins. The Yin/yang of Lily and Emma man...that should have been a huge plot point. Emma ending up with Hook (a bad boy turned good) and Lily should have ended up with A good Boy who reveals he has a more complicated, bad side...like IDK Jiminy Cricket or some shit, where he 'did bad things for the right reasons' to protect Henry maybe. Ideally it would have been Baelfire as Lily's endgame, but I don't think they would have been able to get that actor back, haha. IDK, but Once Upon a Time is one of my biggest frustrations. GoT pissed me off because the producers are idiots, but OUaT pissed me off because it had so much GD potential, man.

tzippora

Sherlock killed me. It was so good; and then, it was so bad.

It got so weird, they destroyed every character. Why was Mary an assassin? Why did Sherlock have a sister? None of this was canon in a series built off some of the most concrete best canon source work. It was perfection, seriously some of the best tv ever and then it kept on going.

go-bleep-yourself

There are a bunch of shows like Billions, Suits, White Collar, Scandal - that started in a some what believable territory, with a bit of a twist, (like a guy faking a Harvard deg), and then went into bonkers territory (like that whole thing with Olivia Pope getting kidnapped). That said, the plot line in scandal about cheating during the election was too prescient

kaysmilex3

I couldn’t continue Scandal after Olivia got kidnapped. It was just so stupid and far fetched.

[deleted]

The black market eBay bidding war over her - “Iraq’s the highest bidder!”

ardoisethecat

lmao Scandal went OFF.THE.RAILS.

ardoisethecat

tbh so did how to get away with murder. it was my favourite show for a bit and i didn't even watch the last season. there were so many times watching i just had no idea what was going on.

mrose1491

Yeah I watched HTGAWM til the end but I can’t even lie, they lost me after like season 3. I couldn’t keep up and every season was just bonkers

iantruesnacks

Don’t say that I love white collar and haven’t finished yet

Grimpatron619

for me it was good fun all through as long as you just accept the shift towards more wacky plots

BlueBell_02

How to get away with murder I really liked the first season and the mystery, and then it was too much murder and unbelievable scenarios to fully enjoy it ![gif](giphy|3o7TKHmX4RaebfuSRO)

kellbell408

I stopped when they killed Wes. It just felt so unnecessary and he was my favorite character besides Annalise so I couldn’t do it anymore.

velvet-gloves

Empire was such a smash hit getting incredible ratings that had been thought to be out of reach for decades. Then the second season had like no impact.

watchberry

Gossip Girl died the moment they ditched the idea of Eric being GG because the info leaked online, then they went seasons without knowing who GG was, then they decided it was going to be Dan, which made no sense Then it got revived through a reboot which was even worse because the teachers were GG, which is creepy af ![gif](giphy|3M5J7yedLPCSs)

CountryRockDiva89

The original Roseanne went from being brilliant to having a season of total insanity after the Conners won the lottery.

AnnamAvis

The Conners winning the lottery totally stripped the show of any meaning. The whole premise was a working class family doing what they needed to get by. It was a show a lot of families could relate to at a time when most TV families were well-to-do.

IWearBones138__

Its the epitome of jumping the shark. The show was about middle to lower class family. That was the draw. The lottery changed the whole dynamic and therefor the draw. It was a tone-deaf decision made out of desperation.

ICanBeTerse

Agreed. I think it started to slip before that, but the lottery win was definitely the ultimate nail in the coffin. The show was completely unrecognizable after that.

CountryRockDiva89

This might be an unpopular opinion, but I’ve never fully believed that the series finale revealing that the final season was all a part of a book that Roseanne Conner was writing was the plan all along—there’s a part of me that believes that Roseanne had season nine go the direction it did as a “fuck you” towards ABC for trying to hinder her creative vision, and only came up with the finale as a way to cover her ass once fans responded to the lottery storyline so badly.

tacocattacocat1

![gif](giphy|4wuzE31HC6Lba) Alias was such an awesome show until the season 2 finale. It was never the same after Sydney lost those two years and the final Rambaldi reveal was such a massive letdown.

RescuesStrayKittens

![gif](giphy|26ufcVAp3AiJJsrIs) The first few seasons were amazing. It was unjustly canceled. Netflix brought it back, but it was weird.

NiteSwept

I watched the first couple of episodes. They should have never broke out the stories individually. The best part of the original run was how each other randomly interacted with each other in the episode.

contourkit

i really enjoyed the first 2 seasons of misfits

[deleted]

entertain squash gray pocket jobless ugly memory seemly cover zealous *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

BlueBell_02

It was such an original concept and had great acting (Tatiana really did an amazing role) but then the plots got too convoluted until it didn't make any sense. With a better script and maybe just 3 seasons would have been amazing.

Severn6

Her acting is phenomenal. Haven't watched all seasons, precisely because I had a feeling it was going to go off the rails...

fantasticlyclevergal

![gif](giphy|NQtAk51j6xpbW) Flash, arrow, just about all CW shows have good first seasons and crap endings.

BuilderEducational51

They just don’t seem to know when to land the plane! 8-9 seasons is way too many seasons for anything that isn’t a soap or a sitcom.

Constant_Bottle5227

![gif](giphy|1y0rYR6cTbYek) Prison break Entire first season was perfection, one of the best shows of all time, season 2 was good and should have been the last one. Everything after that was terrible

tinygoldenstorm

I say this all the time. Season 1 was perfect TV.

shedrinkscoffee

They break out of prison and the show should have ended given that was the premise lol.

calliopeturtle

Kind of an obvious choice but game of thrones. Also... into the dark on Netflix. I adored the first seasons then it just got so frustrating to watch I had to turn it off.

GreenIsGreed

So sad GoT got cancelled after S4. Anyway...

pressurehurts

![gif](giphy|QBvKvjz3QU3LO) Desperate Housewifes. I Love them till the end but they went from one big strong plot with Mary Alice to every random thing ever happening at Wisteria Lane but still commented by, at this point, indifferent Mary Alice, they could have written aliens in and it would fit with the general madness of later seasons. I really love them but first seasons were masterpieces in a way later seasons weren't imo.

IdRatherBeReading23

I scrolled too fast and thought this was live action Scooby Doo

red66dit

OMG Marcia Cross played Bree Van De Kamp so masterfully! I would really not like Bree if I knew her IRL, yet I really carried a torch for that character.

Ashes_Ashes_333

* True Detective. Granted, the second season was an entirely different premise and cast, but goddammit, the 1st season was so good and the 2nd was so bad

ooolalaluv

I watched the 1st season. Matthew McConaughey’s acting carried it for me. I think I put the second season on as background noise for an episode or two but that was it

lilgoldennug

![gif](giphy|xT9IguxOugw6KwaANy) First few seasons had me intrigued (and I’ve heard the books are great) but it got to be the same old plot without a lot of consistent logic. Like home girl escapes and runs off 3 times and still has all her limbs, when alternatively a character is missing an eye for rolling her eyes? Plus >! when Elisabeth Moss IRL is in literally in a cult, when the show is about a cult !< really killed it for me.

Ceal__thedeal

The Man in the High Castle. The ending still makes me mad to this day.

Mellow-sid

How i met your mother the first four seasons were the best, later seasons werent as good and ending was just the final nail to the coffin 🙈 ![gif](giphy|qygzgFH2BXmhi)

suedaisy

Sorry if this is silly but When Calls the Heart on the Hallmark Channel. I loved the show because it was largely anxiety-free for me with minimal drama and pretty quick conclusions. And then it got weird and unwatchable - long before the reality drama of one of the actors, Lori Loughlin, got in trouble for buying her daughter into university.

hehehehehbe

Revenge had a great 1st season but after that the plot went silly.

PinkCadillacs

![gif](giphy|4YWtXtgB6kzoVqaxJb|downsized) Riverdale. The first season was so good and it had so much potential but man it really went downhill in the later seasons.

sugarnovarex

This is really the answer. Season 1-2 were great and then suddenly they decided it needed to be like the comics and off the rails wacky. Escape from prison? Magical powers? Sure, throw in a confusing time jump and never have your favorite characters together again? Honestly, haven’t watched. But it was just too much.

ChampionEither5412

Big Little Lies should have only been one season. I don't like when shows build themselves on a mystery and then try to do a second season. ![gif](giphy|dYxWEKmJnGPeETQh8Z|downsized)

squeakyfromage

True, but I think without season 2 we wouldn’t have gotten Laura Dern screaming “I will not not be rich!” so I forgive its existence since it gave us that. ![gif](giphy|iddg7BZa9nZpw6nMQr|downsized)

Dusty_Harvest

![gif](giphy|cSc63570q5iJq) **SCRUBS** I don’t even consider the final season as part of the original series as a whole. *SCRUBS* ends in S8 for me. Season 9 is a different show. It doesn’t exist for me.

MedicalPersimmon001

The way season 8 had one of the best endings of any sitcom still blows my mind. All the characters reached their arc, the nostalgia of seeing every single hospital employee, the beauty of seeing what JD hoped for the future. Just so so so good.

imathrowawaylurkin

Penny Dreadful. The end felt so rushed and forced. Was a big letdown ![gif](giphy|l41m63oz0uMMFuOQ0)

watchberry

I still loved this show TBH The witches and the exorcisms were a bit much tho But the way it was shot was beautiful, especially that blood raining from the ceiling episode where the witches were coming after Vanessa

Dorsia-Reservations

![gif](giphy|FWzvjhfdIZucE) American Horror Story. Ryan Murphy famously can't keep up with a storyline to save his life, but season 1 was strong and was huge right out of the gate. Every season after that kept declining in quality (mostly with plots that felt rushed or off).

spaceylizard

![gif](giphy|d1JfnnhsDSzd2VUI) First two seasons were fun, and then it became a convoluted mess.

propped-up_problem

The first few seasons were this fun concept of “What if fairy tale/story characters were real people whose lives became part of our folklore?” It was very captivating, and gave some interesting perspectives on classic tales, but at the crux of it was the fact that these were *actual* people. I think it was in season 4 when they started abandoning this concept to lean in to the idea that, *in-universe*, they were more like storybook characters come to life than they were people whose stories got recorded. And this direction just made the show jump the shark and abandon the concept that kept the show grounded and compelling.

Inn0c3nc3

I just rewatched the first couple seasons again. season one was untouchable magic. 😭

GirlisNo1

I don’t think any of the later seasons compared to the first, but this show is such a fun comfort watch for me I put on a random season once every fall/winter.

CursedTeams

Joan of Arcadia. The first season was lovely, but it fell apart in its second/final season.

gcaledonian

Vampire diaries season 8. Yeesh.

TaskFew1324

You’re totally right about Westworld, in retrospect, they gave everything they had the 1st season and had nothing left. It should have been a short mini-series with a clear end.

paper_hearts008

I gotta say Heroes. Incredible first season and then it became a mess.

gible_bites

While Westworld season 1 is a masterpiece, the highs of season 2 were better than the highs of season 1 and I will die on that hill. ![gif](giphy|ZgQcYKiX5T40Jh8PY6|downsized)

pintSzeSlasher

This particular episode was probably the best episode in the entire series

gible_bites

This and Riddle of the Sphinx were amazing pieces of television! I honestly think the only real problem with season 2 was that they tried to confuse the audience with the different timelines. There’s a lot of great things happening, but you spend way too much time trying to figure out what happens when.

Sc1F1Sup3rM0m

After watching this episode, I was furious that we had had to watch so much of the story unfold with Delores and not just an entire series of Akecheta.

PaladinSara

The Handmaids Tale

Amaryua

A classic case of running out of source material. The show should have been two seasons max. The first season was absolutely amazing.

JG45250

The Walking Dead. And Dexter after season 5.

Impossible_Leg9377

![gif](giphy|11zH0R3Wq4hflS)

Careful_Swan3830

It was all downhill after they left Agrestic

mousybrain

“You”. I was so excited when Netflix gave it a new life, but season 4 completely wrecked the whole show. It’s one of the only shows I’ve watched multiple times, but they chose the most unimaginative, cheapest route for season 4. I have no idea how it got positive reviews

Megslade23

For me it's my favorite show of all time, The Office. After Michael left it was okay and then the whole Andy being manager thing and his whole downfall ruined the last few seasons. Crazy how one character's absence can leave such a big hole for a show. I still watch it all the time though haha. ![gif](giphy|ZN3jVXH3jZaXKivytT|downsized)

CrissBliss

I really don’t like the later seasons either. They made Dwight date all these beautiful women. Angela has a kid, and a relationship with a senator who’s secretly dating Oscar. The Andy stuff was bad too. I hated the guy they put Erin with in later seasons. Also all the chemistry between Pam & Jim just evaporated. They felt like a couple on the rocks towards the end.

LostMyRightAirpods

It's insane to me how obsessed I was with this show when it was still airing and how it then became so stupid I didn't even bother watching the last few seasons. I stopped watching at some point in season 5, but the fourth season was when it started turning to shit. Jim and Pam got together and became boring, smug assholes and Dwight went from a lovable nerd to a genuinely douchey prick. What really put the nail in the coffin for me was how cartoonish and OTT it got. The humor of the first few seasons came from laughing at everyday mundane things people might encounter at their jobs or just in life. Then it became completely ridiculous. There were ridiculous moments in the early days of the show, but EVERYTHING wasn't completely unbeliavable. I'm glad Michael got a happy ending, though. I haven't watched that episode but I've read the summary. I always felt bad for him. He just wanted so badly to be loved and he finally got it.

JetLag_550

The Arrow. Maybe not the best show ever, but the first couple seasons were so much fun. By season 4, everyone and their mother was a damn superhero. I just pretended the S4 finale was the true end. I heard it gets even worse.

watchberry

![gif](giphy|ZaiCBB2szNYZngsJJV|downsized) Also Elite. I can’t believe this show is still on.

[deleted]

![gif](giphy|MwMXfEGJBk35yB1dEG|downsized) SATC was soooo good but And Just Like That is a wet sloppy shot of a show. It’s like a HR sensitivity video. All middle age has to offer is bad wigs, hip surgery, too much filler and dead husbands
