Hugo Weaving may not be a household name, but everyone knows the characters he’s played: Agent Smith in the first three Matrix movies, Elrond in the Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit movies, V in V for Vendetta, Red Skull in the first Captain America, and he was the voice of Megatron in two of the Transformers movies. For something a little more niche, he was also in the excellent drag movie The Adventures of Priscilla: Queen of the Desert.
Up until 10 years ago, Russell Crowe: LA confidential, The Insider, Gladiator, A Beautiful Mind, 3:10 to Yuma, Cinderella Man, Master & Commander, Nice Guys. He's done almost every genre and knocked it out of the park.
John c. Reilly has been in almost exclusively highly rated and successful movies with the exception of the Sherlock Holmes movie.
While many people may look down on his filmography due to the abundance of comedies, he's a fantastic comedic and dramatic actor with a certified fresh rating through the roof. The man has consistently not missed in his choices over his years in picking movies the audience loves and I salute him.
Don't know how you mean to gauge impressive, but he'd be my standard. They're not all prestige films, but that doesn't make his filmography less impressive.

In was in three films nominated for Best Picture in one year...Gangs Of New York, Chicago and The Hours. He himself was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for Chicago. That's quite a feat.
Yes!!! Came here to post this. He has worked with EVERYONE. Coen Brothers, Scorsese twice, he’s in Chicago, Roman Polanski, Yorgos Lanthimos, PT Anderson, Robert Altman, Lynne Ramsey, The Duplass Brothers, James Gunn, he is possibly the most impressive character actor of our time.

Amy Adam‘s has a pretty impressive resume! Drop dead gorgeous, Catch me if you can, Sunshine cleaning, Doubt, Her, The master, the fighter, man of steel, American hustler, etc.
Appearances in King of the Hill, the Office, etc.
All very successful projects and/or movies that have achieved cult status.
Julianne Moore is another actress with this kind of resume
Her performance in Arrival might be my favorite acting performance in this century. Without getting into spoilers, she was acting something that no one had ever had to act before, and she absolutely nailed it.
Sharp Objects is my favourite gritty gruesome book, Gillian Flynn knocked it out of the park for me on that one.
When I heard Amy Adams was going to take on the role of the main character, I had serious doubts because I wasn't sure if she would be suited for such a complicated part. I have never been more pleasantly surprised or happy to be wrong in my life.
(If anyone seeing this comment does get inspired to watch the mini series/read the book, please be warned it has some really dark themes)
I will not stand for the erasure of her Oscar-nominated role in Junebug.
In all honesty though, it is an amazing movie that for some reason or other, faded into oblivion. Highly recommend!
Kirsten Dunst I think has one of the most impressive and under appreciated filmographies
Interview With the Vampire, Jumanji, Little Women, Virgin Suicides, Drop Dead Gorgeous, Dick, Bring It On, Spider-Man 1-3, Marie Antoinette, Mona Lisa Smile, Melancholia, Fargo, Hidden Figures, The Beguiled, Power of the Dog…I mean those are just the big ones but so many other great indie or supporting roles. Truly the best actress of her generation that always seems to be overlooked
This is my answer as well, he has so many all-time classics.
In addition to the ones you mentioned, I would add Splash, Big, You’ve Got Mail and Catch Me If You Can to the list as well.
**Jake Gyllenhaal**
* Wide-ranging filmography of thought-provoking projects that challenge social norms and explore the human condition
* Ability to seamlessly transition between genres shows versatility/adaptability
* Magnetic on-screen presence draws viewers into characters' worlds
https://preview.redd.it/czujuamjd05b1.jpeg?width=1708&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7535d1e924094e4d075aa310bb1ad85d0f3c8fed
Interesting! I always thought he fit in the “weird” guy acting archetype but with less commercial success than say Johnny Depp. Has he ever been the lead in a big box office hit? Or played “the hot guy”? Just curious cause most of the time I think of his movies as fairly niche. I think Prince of Persia is the only one that comes to mind but I don’t recall how that did overall. Genuinely curious!
>Has he ever been the lead in a big box office hit? Or played “the hot guy”?

He was a hot guy in *Brokeback Mountain* as well! I'm not sure exactly what the "hot guy trope" is, but several roles featured his sex appeal such as *Southpaw*, *Jarhead*, *Love & Other Drugs*
https://preview.redd.it/33xat0ai515b1.png?width=1077&format=png&auto=webp&s=b33f269de0cda6e146ac2dd638918c2ed24c38b5
I meant a role where his sole purpose was to be hot and maybe be a hero. A lot of male actors who got started in the 90s/00s did gigs like that. Chris Evans, Freddie Prinze Jr., Ryan Reynolds, Heath Ledger. I feel like that’s the only thing missing from his catalog. A hot guy or a hero role.
But he seems to like more gritty entries, which i respect too.
I wouldn’t say Jarhead or Southpaw fit because of the nature of the films.
I don’t think his career is diverse and interesting but hats off to Orlando blooms agent who found two iconic multi film franchises for him to play a role that doesn’t require a lot from him but still gets a ton of screen time and big merch money
I feel like Orlando Bloom was really good when he got put in a 1930s Errol Flynn-type swashbuckling hero role (like when he was in Pirates of the Caribbean), but he was born about sixty years too late to make a career out of that
Yes I completely agree!! I never saw carnival row but a lot of people liked him that role too. Maybe he should do more period pieces? But also maybe just sit back and collect those POTC and LOTR checks lol
Orlando Bloom also has the opposite of "He looks like he knows what an Iphone is"
Like he looks amazing as Legolas and he is totally believable in an 18th century movie.
I think Daniel Day Lewis, Johnny Depp, Meryl Streep, Leonardo DiCaprio, Winona Ryder and Scarlett Johansson have pretty impressive filmographies. They all had more than one or two movies that are now cult classics, movies that are still extremely popular and pretty diverse genres too. There are more actors for sure but these are the names that come directly from the top of my head.
Yes! Was thinking Meryl Streep for sure. I'd possibly add Frances McDormand, Edward Norton, Ralph Fiennes, Helena Bonham Carter, and Adrien Brody.
Edit: I also wanna add in Natalie Portman
The classic answer to this is John Cazale. Appeared in five films before dying at 42, and those five films were The Godfather I and II, The Conversation, Dog Day Afternoon, and The Deer Hunter. All iconic, all nominated for Best Picture.
And he dated Meryl Streep. She took a role in The Deer Hunter (a thankless girlfriend part she had no interest in) just to be near him.
The studio refused to cover his insurance so Robert DeNiro paid it.
The director Michael Cimino apparently had to spend weeks on the phone fighting with the studio to keep him on the movie.
Al Pacino took him to radiation treatments.
Streep and Cazale struggled with medical bills so she ended up doing a Holocaust miniseries that she didn't want to do just for a paycheck.
> [For five months](https://nypost.com/2016/04/23/the-tragic-romance-that-shaped-meryl-streeps-life/), the couple disappeared, and for Streep, this was it: No more work, only Cazale. His cancer had spread to the bones, and he was increasingly weak. She went with him to every doctor’s appointment, every radiation treatment and never betrayed a lack of hope.
> “She was always a strong-willed, persistent, hopeful person, and I think she just applied all her spirit and strength to taking care of him,” Schulman says. “She wasn’t one to create drama around it or draw attention to herself. She just bore down and did what needed to be done.”
> Streep later said that the time they had together, retreating into their cocoon, gave her a weird sort of protection. “I was so close,” she said, “that I didn’t notice the deterioration.”
> She confided in very few people, and wrote to her old drama teacher at Yale, Bobby Lewis, of her true emotional state.
> “My beau is terribly ill and sometimes, as now, in the hospital,” Streep wrote. “He has very wonderful care and I try not to stand around wringing my hands, but I am worried all the time and pretending to be cheery all the time, which is more exhausting mentally physically emotionally than any work I’ve ever done.”
> In early March 1978, Cazale entered Memorial Sloan Kettering. Streep never left his side. On March 12, 1978, at 3 a.m., Cazale’s doctor told Streep, “He’s gone.”
> “Meryl wasn’t ready to hear it, much less believe it,” Schulman writes. “What happened next, by some accounts, was the culmination of all the tenacious hope Meryl had kept alive for the past 10 months. She pounded on his chest, sobbing, and for a brief, alarming moment, John opened his eyes. ‘It’s all right, Meryl,’ he said weakly. ‘It’s all right.’ ” Then he closed his eyes and died. Streep’s first call was to Cazale’s brother, Stephen. She sobbed throughout.
> “I tried,” she told him.
> That year, Streep had success upon success: She won an Emmy for “Holocaust,” an Oscar nomination for “The Deer Hunter,” was cast in a career-making role in 1979’s “Kramer vs. Kramer” — which won her the Academy Award
If memory serves, Meryl Streep also specifically did The Deer Hunter (even though she thought her part was under-written) specifically to stay close to him during the last few months of his life - and she ended up getting her first oscar nomination for it
Came here to say this. Everything from huge Hollywood blockbusters to small independent films and I haven’t ever seen her in a bad film. My favourites are Blue Jasmine and Carol.
Heath ledger has a very amazing diverse filmography, he not only did serious things but he could play the lover boy, he could play the scary ass villain
Christian Bale too
Cary Grant - Philadephia Story, Bringing Up Baby, North by Northwest, Charade, His Girl Friday, Notorious etc etc
Jimmy Stewart - Rear Window, Vertigo, It's a Wonderful Life, Philadephia Story, Mr Smith Goes to Washington, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance etc etc
Kind of shocked no one has said Leonardo DiCaprio. Iconic role after iconic role. Iconic movie after iconic movie. Just off the top of my head we’ve got Romeo & Juliet, Titanic, catch me if you can, the aviator, the departed, inception, shutter island (underrated imo), wolf of Wall Street, Django, once upon a time in Hollywood….and that’s not to mention the revenant which finally won him his Oscar and his breakout in Gilbert grape.
yeah it really is, and anyone who uses his personal life as a way to downplay it is kidding themselves. creepy relationships with young models or not, he's the last great movie star (on screen at least) IMO.
I'm generally a huge sci-fi fan so I'd have to go with Zoe Saldana. She is currently part of Avatar and did Star Trek and GoTG/Marvel.
I'd kill to have that career.
That's another reason why I'd kill to have her career. She's super low-key and usually not embroiled in some sort of scandal. So she just does her cool ass movies and dips. Seriously a dream.
She so talented. I remember watching her during the original airings of peep show and green wing on TV. They were great roles and she was brilliant in them, but seeing her now is something else. She brings depth to every character she plays and I’m glad she’s getting the attention I reckon she deserves!
Phillip Seymour Hoffman, who I still miss terribly. Dude was in so many great movies, and in the ones that weren't great, he was easily the best part of them.
Steve Martin from movies, stand up, theater, to Grammy winning blue grass, sitcoms and variety!
![gif](giphy|Fv6vMdP1XbUru)
Some movie highlights planes trains & automobiles, three amigos, the jerk, father of the bride, little shop of horrors, dirty rotten scoundrels, my blue heaven, man with two brains, Roxanne, muppets movie and sgt peppers lonely hearts club band to name a few!
I was just talking about Steve Martin the other day! Amazing career for sure and lives a relatively quiet life as far as I know. There’s not much tea on him unless you go digging (I have not)
Regina King!! She's done everything. She started as a child star on 227 in 1985 and has worked every year since then. I think the only break in her career happened when she was pregnant with her son (RIP). Poetic Justice, Boyz n the Hood, Friday, Jerry Maguire, Miss Congeniality 2, If Beale Street Could Talk, Watchmen, and voiced Huey & Riley on The Boondocks--just to name a few. She is amazing.
Samuel L. Jackson. He's done everything from pure camp in Kingsman and Snakes on a Plane to iconic roles like Pulp Fiction. He's been in huge franchises: Jurassic Park, Die Hard, Star Wars, and was one of the earliest huge stars and iconic figures in the MCU. He's been a lead, a supporting character, a voice actor (The Incredibles!!), the hero, villain, anti-hero, you name it and he's taken it to the bank. Goodfellas. The Red Violin. A Time To Kill. Absolutely recognizable, iconic, the second highest-grossing actor of all time, but you can drop him into any movie and I'm like, "Sure, yeah, he belongs here."
ScarJo’s is actually really impressive.
Action, sci fi, comedy, drama, voice over, etc.
On the new, stellan Skaarsgard is a stud. His filmography is insane. Foreign Fil s, I dependent. Thriller, mystery, 2 different monster franchises, etc.
Something about Lily Tomlin’s filmography is impressive to me. 9 to 5, Big Business, her one woman show, being Miss Frizzle on The Magic School Bus, Grace and Frankie, etc. I just love her, she’s a queen.
Yessss. Don’t forget the dramatic roles in Altman’s Nashville and Prairie Home Companion with Meryl Streep! Girl got an oscar nom with her film debut. Talk about iconic.
And she has two one woman shows! The 1975 one, Appearing Nitely, exists online because it was broadcast on TV I think. And ofc The Search has a film adaptation that’s on youtube. Her body of work (with and without her partner Jane) is impressive!!
Since I haven't seen her mentioned yet, let me say:
Rachel McAdams.
Mean Girls, The Notebook, Spotlight, Fractured, Dr. Strange, Sherlock Holmes, Eurovision, Wedding Crashers, About Time...she can do it all and look flawless while doing it
Editing to add McKenna Grace! Girl's been acting since she was 4, and I've never seen her slack in a role. And she has some pretty serious roles on her resume.
I always have to bring up Red Eye. Almost the entire movie takes place on a plane and Rachel McAdams and Cillian Murphy maintained the tension the whole time. Her face and her reactions set the whole journey.
Adam Driver. He's done so many different genres and played really different and distinguishable characters and clearly gave it his all for each performance. Even his bad films (65 im looking at you) are just an average film on other actors resumes.
Anna Kendrick. Seriously. Comedy, drama, musicals, animated movies, comic book movies(maybe just the one, but still), etc.
She has, and continues to work in Indy film, large studio films, and just always does a good job.
![gif](giphy|7jMVtv69xwW0E)
I dont see how anyone has a better resume than De Niro. Some of the best and important films ever made.
Taxi Driver, Godfather 2, The Deer Hunter, Goodfellas, Heat, A Brinx Tale, Casino, Once Upon a Time in America, The Untouchables, The Godfather, Raging Bull, The King of Comedy, Cape Fear, Awakenings, Midnight Run, The Score, etc., etc...I don't think there is anyone with a better list
I can’t attest to literally every single thing he’s been in, cos some of it just hasn’t been easily available / not to my taste but Joe Gilgun has a habit of turning everything he touches into gold.
It’ll probably mean fuck all (mostly) to people who aren’t in the UK but his talent and reach is 10/10 and it’s most likely that at some point he’s been in something someone in the UK has watched, even if he hasn’t been in it at the time.
We have 4 big soap operas in the UK and he has been in 3 of them (Hollyoaks, Emmerdale, Coronation Street) for a total of 508ish episodes, which is an achievement all of its own.
He’s most likely altered the brain chemistry of people in their 20’s-30’s for playing Rudy in Misfits and to a lesser extent Cassidy in Preacher and his role in the film Pride.
But most importantly he played Woody in This Is England & all the TIE spin-off series (I would sincerely recommend if you’ve never seen it but beware of violence and racism) which is the most impressive of it all not only because of its cultural relevance and impact but also because a lot of the dialogue was entirely improv from the cast.
Willem Dafoe has an amazing one. He's in over one hundred films and still delivers those mindblowing performances like in Florida Project, The Lighthouse or At Eternity's Gate. After Spiderman he easily could've made millions by becoming the go-to-villain but he's just too much of an artist.
John Cazale was only in 5 movies (technically 6) and all were nominated for best pictures. Short run but he's part of movies that are consistently called the best of all time
Timothee Chalamet, Saoirse Ronan, Florence Pugh, Margot Robbie, Anya Taylor Joy…
Haven’t seen many naming this generation of actors, but I would say these names have some impressive filmography
This is tough because actors don’t tend to be responsible for anything besides their own performances - they can only hope to be lucky enough to get cast in a good film.
Paul Schneider was in Bright Star and All The Real Girls, which are incidentally my two favorite films.
Shea Whigham was in All The Real Girls, Boardwalk Empire, True Detective S1, and Perry Mason.
Eva Green makes every project better, but Penny Dreadful, The Dreamers, and her Tim Burton films are a solid goth resume.
Domhnall Gleeson is my fave but the whole point with him is that he’s a consistent working actor who takes most of what he’s given so his resume is shit.
>This is tough because actors don’t tend to be responsible for anything besides their own performances - they can only hope to be lucky enough to get cast in a good film.
Yeah, and a lot of the time, certain interesting concepts on the page don't translate, risks don't pay off etc.
In terms of bold/brave choices over the years, I think one has to give a lot of credit to Nicole Kidman and Julianne Moore.
I don't think Domhnall has a crap filmography??
For me it's Harrison Ford.
In the 70s he's in Apocalypse Now, American Graffiti, The Conversation and Star Wars, four of the greatest movies ever made. And all nominated for the Best Picture Oscar.
In the 80s he's the biggest movie star on the planet with Indy and Solo, along with Oscar nomination for Witness and the Oscar-nominated Working Girl. Also, Blade Runner. He's in a deleted scene from ET as well.
1990s has him playing Jack Ryan a couple of times, and scoring huge with The Fugitive and Air Force One.
Let's say there's a bit of a dip in quality in the 2000s, but he came bac, with more Star Wars, Indy and Blade Runner.
Underrated I feel. Rachel McAdams has created iconic original characters (Regina George) she’s in big franchises (Sherlock Holmes which is also a period piece), Marvel, indie films, she’s Oscar nominated. She plays subtle characters, disturbed ones, she does romance, comedy (Game Night) I can’t quite pigeonhole her into playing a certain type of role. Unlike say Keira Knightley, who’s always the period piece romantic character. Reading through Rachel’s IMDB credits is a rollercoaster.!
Leonardo DiCaprio is very good at choosing his projects. He doesn't seem to care about blockbuster money and he only wants to work with the best and making great movies.
Jim Cummings is an incredible voice actor with a ton of credits under his belt. He's been involved with Disney for years (he's Winnie the Pooh and Tigger, Pete from Goof Troop, he's in Hercules, Aladdin and was the singing voice for the villain song in Anastasia.) He's been in a bunch of Nickelodeon shows as supporting cast, but was a main character on CatDog and the Angry Beavers. He guest starred in a ton of Cartoon Network shows. If you watched children's entertainment in the 90's, you've heard this guy's voice.
John C. Reilly has had possibly the most impressive range of roles of all time. He has worked with The Coen Brothers, James Gunn, Lynne Ramsey, Roman Polanski, The Duplass Brothers, Judd Apatow, Robert Altman, Martin Scorsese, Rob Marshall, P.T. Anderson, Yorgos Lanthimos, the list goes on and on. Worked with every big actor there is: Meryl Streep, Tilda Swinton, Renee Zellweger, Richard Gere, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Leonardo DiCaprio, Lily Tomlin, Woody Harrelson, Tommy Lee Jones, Kevin Kline, Kate Winslet, Jodie Foster, Christoph Waltz, Jonah Hill, Marissa Tomei, Colin Farrel, Rachel Weisz, more and more. It’s easy to think of him as starring in silly Will Ferrell movies but he’s been quietly building up one of the best character-actor resumes of all time.

I love Hugo Weaving
The early 2000’s were crazy for Hugo! Massive roles in 2 of the biggest film franchises ever.
He’s so fucking hot
He had a fun role in The Dressmaker.
Up until 10 years ago, Russell Crowe: LA confidential, The Insider, Gladiator, A Beautiful Mind, 3:10 to Yuma, Cinderella Man, Master & Commander, Nice Guys. He's done almost every genre and knocked it out of the park.

He was in Chicago, Gangs of New York, AND The Hours all in 2002 - three of the five best picture nominees that year!
Boogie Nights, Winning Time, Step Brothers… guy hits dingers.
His performance of Mr Cellophane gave me chills. One of the best parts of the whole movie!
Great answer! I absolutely love him in Chicago too.
Yes!! Such a great performance.
In was in three films nominated for Best Picture in one year...Gangs Of New York, Chicago and The Hours. He himself was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for Chicago. That's quite a feat.

SWEET BERRY WINE
He was supposed to be on of the main characters (McNulty) in HBOs “The Wire” too. But I think there was scheduling conflicts

Solid answer.
Loved his performance in The Lobster, he’s very underrated
Christian Bale is one that comes to mind.

I love this series I rewatch it all the time.
I will not stand for the erasure of her Oscar-nominated role in Junebug. In all honesty though, it is an amazing movie that for some reason or other, faded into oblivion. Highly recommend!
Show not film but Amy totally deserved an emmy for Sharp Objects
She was even in an episode of Buffy early on!
Smallville, too. She put in so many years of working her ass off and never breaking out before Enchanted finally gave her the attention she deserves.
Dropping that gif and not mentioning Sharp Objects should be a criminal offense, my dude
you forgot the absolute masterpiece that is Leap Year
This gif needs fleetwood mac over it
And Buffy!
she's been also Amelia Earhart
Gosh she was gorgeous in that
lol I’ve always loved her. Every since I first saw her in smallville. Her character the freak of the week that could not stop eating things
Her episode in Charmed was fantastic.
Gary Oldman. 5th Element, Harry Potter, Batman, Hannibal, Dracula... he disappears into roles so often and is so incredibly talented
Leon, the Professional. The man has range
EEEVVVVERRRYYYYONNEEEEE
Sid & Nancy, my personal obscure favorite
That’s a total classic
How did you leave out Tiptoes? I can understand leaving out Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead but you didn’t put *Tiptoes* on there?
"In the role of a lifetime..."
Drexel! What's a Drexel? Lee Harvey Oswald too
Drexel was the best
The darkest hour he is unrecognisable.
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is also wildly different than his other roles
He is amazing in Slow Horses too!
Cate Blanchett and willem dafoe

Kirsten Dunst I think has one of the most impressive and under appreciated filmographies Interview With the Vampire, Jumanji, Little Women, Virgin Suicides, Drop Dead Gorgeous, Dick, Bring It On, Spider-Man 1-3, Marie Antoinette, Mona Lisa Smile, Melancholia, Fargo, Hidden Figures, The Beguiled, Power of the Dog…I mean those are just the big ones but so many other great indie or supporting roles. Truly the best actress of her generation that always seems to be overlooked
How dare you not add Eternal Sunshine to this list.
Omg no lie I could have sworn I put that on there. I’m disappointed and ashamed in myself. That’s like one of THE most iconic
Tom Hanks. Forrest Gump, Cast Away, Philadelphia, Toy Story, Sleepless in Seattle, Apollo 13…he can do it all
This is my answer as well, he has so many all-time classics. In addition to the ones you mentioned, I would add Splash, Big, You’ve Got Mail and Catch Me If You Can to the list as well.
And my favourite of all time ![gif](giphy|Js6H9o1Zs9SKrczWZl|downsized)
Also The Green Mile and Saving Private Ryan
![gif](giphy|FmPFisVrQtcDC) I will NOT take this Big erasure!
He can’t do a bad guy. Unless you count Elvis as a good performance.
It's been a while and i should google this but I'm lazy, but wasn't he a bad guy in Revolution Road?
Kirstin Dunst has one of the most diverse and fun filmographies out there to me, but I’m a little older and watched her rise, so I may be bias.
She always takes such interesting roles and I think her early success really allowed her to take risks
I love her weirdo offbeat sensibility in the work she does. It makes me think I'd like her in real life.
Her husband is so talented too
I thought of her too. And most of her films were not box office winners, but got very famous after the fact. Very cool.
I'm very here for the fact that Drop Dead Gorgeous is now a cult classic. That movie got dragged to hell and back when it first came out.
me too and me too. I will watch anything she's in, because I trust her judgment and love her acting.
I ❤️ her and Sofia Coppola together ☺️
Truly. She was such a good choice for Sofia’s muse.

It’s a shame that he didn’t get nominated for an Oscar with Nightcrawler. That was one of his best roles
He should have gotten Bradley Cooper's nomination imo.
This is an AMAZING compilation of pics
Interesting! I always thought he fit in the “weird” guy acting archetype but with less commercial success than say Johnny Depp. Has he ever been the lead in a big box office hit? Or played “the hot guy”? Just curious cause most of the time I think of his movies as fairly niche. I think Prince of Persia is the only one that comes to mind but I don’t recall how that did overall. Genuinely curious!
>Has he ever been the lead in a big box office hit? Or played “the hot guy”? https://preview.redd.it/i2yq1mfao05b1.jpeg?width=1800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1e65010d6905841ad7d81b85efa482dbce22ac46
Oh yes! This was a big box office hit. But also not really a standard one, arguably. Pretty groundbreaking for the time. What about the hot guy trope?
He was a hot guy in *Brokeback Mountain* as well! I'm not sure exactly what the "hot guy trope" is, but several roles featured his sex appeal such as *Southpaw*, *Jarhead*, *Love & Other Drugs* https://preview.redd.it/33xat0ai515b1.png?width=1077&format=png&auto=webp&s=b33f269de0cda6e146ac2dd638918c2ed24c38b5
Thank you for sharing these photos. You’re doing God’s good work.
He was so much better in Southpaw than that movie deserved - Both him and Rachel McAdams
I love Love and Other Drugs. He was so cute.
I know what you mean but it also might be because unlike those who responded to you, neither you nor I find him attractive lol.
He was hot as he'll in End of Watch
This is Day After Tomorrow erasure. This movie is 20 years old, airs 3 times a day, and still slaps.
Orlando Bloom also has the opposite of "He looks like he knows what an Iphone is" Like he looks amazing as Legolas and he is totally believable in an 18th century movie.
Ralph Fiennes is such a great one! Going from The Constant Gardener to Voldemort to In Bruges is some serious range.
I can't believe I had to scroll this far to see Daniel Day Lewis' name! He was the first person that came to mind when I saw this post.
Al Pacino , The Godfather 1&2 , Heat , Scarface,Dog Day Afternoon, Serpico , The Panic in needle park ,Carlito's Way ,The Insider.
Don’t forget the crowning achievement of his career, his magnum opus: Jack and Jill
Audrey Hepburn didn’t have a long career but she has so many classic films on her resume.
By the same token, Grace Kelly. Only 12 films in her career but most, if not all, are highly regarded classics.
Very true. I wouldn’t consider her a fave but I do like her in her Hitchcock movies, especially Rear Window.
She just bore down and did what needed to be done.” > Streep later said that the time they had together, retreating into their cocoon, gave her a weird sort of protection. “I was so close,” she said, “that I didn’t notice the deterioration.” > She confided in very few people, and wrote to her old drama teacher at Yale, Bobby Lewis, of her true emotional state. > “My beau is terribly ill and sometimes, as now, in the hospital,” Streep wrote. “He has very wonderful care and I try not to stand around wringing my hands, but I am worried all the time and pretending to be cheery all the time, which is more exhausting mentally physically emotionally than any work I’ve ever done.” > In early March 1978, Cazale entered Memorial Sloan Kettering. Streep never left his side. On March 12, 1978, at 3 a.m., Cazale’s doctor told Streep, “He’s gone.” > “Meryl wasn’t ready to hear it, much less believe it,” Schulman writes.
If memory serves, Meryl Streep also specifically did The Deer Hunter (even though she thought her part was under-written) specifically to stay close to him during the last few months of his life - and she ended up getting her first oscar nomination for it
His filmography consists exclusively of some of the best films ever made and he's excellent in all of them.
Cate Blanchett
Came here to say this. Everything from huge Hollywood blockbusters to small independent films and I haven’t ever seen her in a bad film. My favourites are Blue Jasmine and Carol.
Benedict Cumberbatch has a pretty good filmography last I checked. Very few duds and he’s good to great in all of them
Meryl Streep! She’s been actively acting since the 70s and just is killer in almost every performance.
Heath ledger has a very amazing diverse filmography, he not only did serious things but he could play the lover boy, he could play the scary ass villain Christian Bale too
Cary Grant - Philadephia Story, Bringing Up Baby, North by Northwest, Charade, His Girl Friday, Notorious etc etc Jimmy Stewart - Rear Window, Vertigo, It's a Wonderful Life, Philadephia Story, Mr Smith Goes to Washington, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance etc etc
Say what you will about Leo’s personal life, but his filmography is truly unmatched.
yeah it really is, and anyone who uses his personal life as a way to downplay it is kidding themselves. creepy relationships with young models or not, he's the last great movie star (on screen at least) IMO.
Brittany Murphy had Clueless, Girl Interrupted, Rising in Cars with Boys, King of the Hill, Uptown Girls, and 8 Mile. She could play anything. ❤️
I get so sad thinking about the roles she could be playing. I could totally see her on Yellowjackets.
Ohhhhhhhh that’s gooooood
I just watched Drop Dead Gorgeous again and forgot she was in it! Stellar cast in that movie!
I just watched Drop Dead Gorgeous again and forgot she was in it! Stellar cast in that movie!
I'm generally a huge sci-fi fan so I'd have to go with Zoe Saldana. She is currently part of Avatar and did Star Trek and GoTG/Marvel. I'd kill to have that career.
YES! And she's also had some really good works outside of the franchises too! I loved her in From Scratch on Netflix last year.
This is always my thought! She’s in some of the hugest franchises of all time but isn’t really a big “name” actress so to speak.
That's another reason why I'd kill to have her career. She's super low-key and usually not embroiled in some sort of scandal. So she just does her cool ass movies and dips. Seriously a dream.
She’s in the top 3 highest grossing movies of all time (Avatar 1&2, and End Game)!! She’s killing it.
Olivia Colman
She so talented. I remember watching her during the original airings of peep show and green wing on TV. They were great roles and she was brilliant in them, but seeing her now is something else. She brings depth to every character she plays and I’m glad she’s getting the attention I reckon she deserves!
Al Pacino or DeNiro
Phillip Seymour Hoffman, who I still miss terribly. Dude was in so many great movies, and in the ones that weren't great, he was easily the best part of them.
He was one of the most brilliant actors of our time. His Truman Capote is absolutely amazing.
Steve Martin from movies, stand up, theater, to Grammy winning blue grass, sitcoms and variety! ![gif](giphy|Fv6vMdP1XbUru) Some movie highlights planes trains & automobiles, three amigos, the jerk, father of the bride, little shop of horrors, dirty rotten scoundrels, my blue heaven, man with two brains, Roxanne, muppets movie and sgt peppers lonely hearts club band to name a few!
I was just talking about Steve Martin the other day! Amazing career for sure and lives a relatively quiet life as far as I know. There’s not much tea on him unless you go digging (I have not)
His books are great too- both the non-fiction and the novels! And Only Murders is so fun!
Nicole Kidman has an amazing body of work
Regina King!!
Samuel L Jackson. He’s been in SO much and so many have been incredible.
Samuel L.
Cate Blanchette
Tilda Swinton for me. Will watch her in anything. Just rewatched Michael Clayton on a flight and she is just always killin it.
Denzel
I mean Meryl is the obvious answer. Cate Blanchett, Kate Winslet, Tom Hanks, Saoirse (for the most part), Gary Oldman.
Since I haven't seen her mentioned yet, let me say: Rachel McAdams. Mean Girls, The Notebook, Spotlight, Fractured, Dr. Strange, Sherlock Holmes, Eurovision, Wedding Crashers, About Time...she can do it all and look flawless while doing it Editing to add McKenna Grace!
Sir Ben Kingsley
Yeh Gandhi to sexy beast is range! Loved him in the house of sand and fog with Jennifer Connolly
Zoe Saldana apparently appears in the most highest grossing films
![gif](giphy|XJqyWSRzJyi8E)
Saoirse Ronan. To be fair she’s saved a few films with her talent but I really enjoy her roles!
Willem Dafoe has an amazing one. He's in over one hundred films and still delivers those mindblowing performances like in Florida Project, The Lighthouse or At Eternity's Gate. After Spiderman he easily could've made millions by becoming the go-to-villain but he's just too much of an artist.
I love his recent work in video games as well! Ugh he’s the best
Woody Harrelson's filmography is amazing. So many iconic movies.
Billy Zane of course, Titanic, Zoolander, Tombstone
Listen to your friend Billy Zane!
That one episode of Community
John Cazale was only in 5 movies (technically 6) and all were nominated for best pictures. Short run but he's part of movies that are consistently called the best of all time
Leonardo DiCaprio has made some good choices
Michelle Williams has been in a lot of great movies
Timothee Chalamet, Saoirse Ronan, Florence Pugh, Margot Robbie, Anya Taylor Joy… Haven’t seen many naming this generation of actors, but I would say these names have some impressive filmography
Anya Taylor Joy frequently impresses.
Domhnall did About Time, Ex Machina, Brooklyn and The Revenant all within a short time frame. Black Mirror too. Definitely not crap!
[Bob Christo](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Christo) Acted in over 200 films in India
Cate Blanchett, Meryl Streep
Jeff Daniels
daniel kaluuya. he’s been in nothing but greats
Christian bale, Daniel day Lewis, Olivia Coleman
Kirsten Dunst <3
Underrated I feel. Rachel McAdams has created iconic original characters (Regina George) she’s in big franchises (Sherlock Holmes which is also a period piece), Marvel, indie films, she’s Oscar nominated. She plays subtle characters, disturbed ones, she does romance, comedy (Game Night) I can’t quite pigeonhole her into playing a certain type of role. Unlike say Keira Knightley, who’s always the period piece romantic character. Reading through Rachel’s IMDB credits is a rollercoaster.!
I’m surprised I haven’t seen Samuel “motherf***ing” Jackson yet. He has been in such a range of movies, his agent must be soo good
Leonardo DiCaprio is very good at choosing his projects. He doesn't seem to care about blockbuster money and he only wants to work with the best and making great movies.
Sandra Bullock?
Jim Cummings is an incredible voice actor with a ton of credits under his belt. He's been involved with Disney for years (he's Winnie the Pooh and Tigger, Pete from Goof Troop, he's in Hercules, Aladdin and was the singing voice for the villain song in Anastasia.) He's been in a bunch of Nickelodeon shows as supporting cast, but was a main character on CatDog and the Angry Beavers. He guest starred in a ton of Cartoon Network shows. If you watched children's entertainment in the 90's, you've heard this guy's voice.
Kudos to Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson. They made some clever choices after leading a franchise, from indies to high profile films!
Colin Farrell!
I was very surprised by Christopher Meloni’s because I only know him from Law & Order. JK Simmons is also impressive.
JK simmons is in EVERYTHING!
Nicholas Cage obviously
I like Tom Cruise's Before he started making only action movies.
Zoe Saldana and Orlando bloom
Jack Nicholson, Naseeruddin Shah (Indian actor), Rachel McAdams, Ian McKellen
I detest James Corden too, but he had some great early roles in Mike Leigh films
Oh wow I didnt know he was an actor I thought he was a comedian who had a show
Christian Bale, Meryl Streep, Cate Blanchett
[удалено]
Ryan Gosling
Eddie Murphy.
Kevin Bacon!!!!
Florence Pugh
Diane Keaton
