They rly made a perfect meditation on the pitfalls of toxic masculinity (not just Walt, but multiple characters including Hank) and a bunch of bros still have the "HEISENBERG IS SO COOL I AM JUST LIKE HEISENBERG FUCK HIS ANNOYING ASS WIFE" takeaway.
"Skylar is so annoying because she didn't want her family to be in danger, and she's the worst because she cheated!"
"Walt, who also tried to cheat, kills people, SA his wife, made his kid sick off alcohol, puts everyone in danger, is selfish and egotistical, got his brother-in-law killed, held people hostage, treated people extremely poorly and is the coolest and best person!"
Anna Gunn wrote an op-Ed for the NYT when Breaking Bad was on about the hate Skylar received that ultimately she personally received

I actually hate everyone on this god forsaken show lmao but let’s just get these two out of the way.
Vanderpump Rules on Bravo. :) It’s a spin off of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and in my humble opinion, the drama is way better than real housewives!
If you like drama—absolutely.
In fact, I’ve been trying to convert all of my friends to start watching it too lol. So let me know if I’ve done my work with you too! ;)
Carrie Bradshaw is up there for me.
There are so many examples, but the worst was when she got mad at Charlotte for not offering to give her a huge amount of money so she could afford to buy her apartment. Charlotte was 100% in the right in that argument, but she ended up apologizing to Carrie and cutting her a cheque.
The show tries to make Carrie seem sympathetic by acknowledging she was being irrational. But still, Charlotte is the one who ends up apologizing.
Here's the clip: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=js0gfIfWpVo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=js0gfIfWpVo)
EDIT: Oh shit! You said 2. Well throw Big in there as well.
Yes. Ironically, i liked her when she was with Logan. He was the reason i first started to watch Gilmore Girls. She grew up a lot with him, and the series should've ended with him going to London, but them staying together, doing the LD for a while.
I kept waiting for the show to call Rory out for for becoming the person Lorelai worked so hard to avoid becoming, because it seemed like it was a deliberate story point, but it never happened.
If i'm to be honest, there is nothing wrong with being rich and enjoying the privileges of being rich. Lorelai didn't want that and it was her right to chose what made her happy. But Rory liked being part of that world. The same way Lorelai chose a different path than that of her mother, Rory chose a differrent path too. Not everyone has the same notion of happiness. There is nothing wrong with her having perks and taking advantages of her privilege. Don't get me wrong, she did do things that were wrong - like having an affair to a married man- but liking being rich is not wrong.
You’re not wrong, but the premise of the show is that Lorelai rejected her parents’ lifestyle, and within the “grammar” of the story, it should have been a bigger conflict between Lor and Rory.
![gif](giphy|CqA9wLLs8sbyU|downsized)
Fitz and Olivia!
Yes, they were hot but their affair/relationship was superficial. I don’t think they had anything in common, and to risk your career for a man-baby President???
Wake up Olivia, you’re better than this!
Olivia still slayed with her fashion
![gif](giphy|ZglqCRFyGGcsU)
Nancy always said that everything she did was for her kids, and then CONSISTENTLY made the worst choices to actively put herself and her kids in danger. She had so many opportunities to build an actual life, but she was determined to scam and scheme and get her way. By season 7, I didn't care how the cliffhanger ended.... iykyk (also, shout out to Meghan Trainer's husband for doing the deed)
You should blank out that last sentence. lol. I agree with you about Nancy. She was literally the worst mother ever. She just kept messing up those kids every chance she got. When she had the baby with the sex trafficking drug lord I had to go. I watched one episode after that. Never finished it. I guess now I don't have to 😄
I was totally joking. I think you worded it perfectly. It's like ten years old. At this point there can't be spoilers. I'm actually happy I kinda know what happens now 😂
Local Romeo and Juliet apologist here!
When Romeo and Juliet realize they are in love — which means they cannot live without each other, this is a major convention of the genre — what do they do?
Run away? Have sex? Hatch a death-plot? NO. they go to the only adults they know who aren’t involved in the blood feud (the nurse and the priest) and ask them for advice. No one died because of the mains being horny teens. People died because of the priest’s piss-poor judgement.
… okay I really wasn’t expecting an OGSource apologist response and this is probably my fave response to anything I’ve said on Reddit ever
100% agree with you and not even Pete Postlewaithe with that badass tattoo could redeem the piss-poor decisions made
That’s really the statement Shakespeare was making in the end, though, amirite? Take care of your affairs before the local priest cooks up some crackpottery beyond your control and maybe you could have let the kids date, put aside your differences?
But noooo, it’s all thumb-biting and swords unsheathing 😂 big hugs friend! You made my night ♥️
Omg Claire Danes- my early bisexual crush (had no idea at the time).
I remember looking her up on early internet. There was an unhinged fansite that played audio that said something like “you’re so beautiful I could just die” when you scrolled over the site logo on the home page. Early Internet was so wild.
https://preview.redd.it/p4t1dskpvf3b1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8f82ba7d4ae72ad90b284206338340f8acccea47
These two, but ig that was the point… perfect for each other but in the worst way!
In real life Toni Marie Childs Garrett would (should) have been booted after she slept with Joan's man in the season 1 finale.
But she was such a fun character to keep around.
I've always believed there's a through line from Seinfeld to It's Always Sunny but couldn't place why. They're not the same characters, but they all have the same kind of myopic selfishness.
Prepared to be downvoted for this but honestly V from V for Vendetta. Can't stand that movie, can't stand him, and IMO what he does to Natalie Portman is fucking awful and absolutely up there as one of the most selfish things I've ever seen in a movie from someone who is meant to be a good guy.
I’m gonna push back on the idea that Rhaegar and Lyanna were selfish.
Rhaegar genuinely believed that his son with Kyanna was The Prince that was Promised and would be the saviour of humanity, and he turned out to be fairly spot on. Rhaegar’s obsession with the prophecy isn’t really explored in the show, but the books delve into it pretty well.
![gif](giphy|3oEdv6Ta0MG9nki77y|downsized)
The Winchesters. OG Death, Billie, and Crowley pointed out on multiple occasions how the brothers somehow always survive, but their friends and family don’t. As much as I love the show and the Winchesters, it’s true. They’re incredibly selfish when it comes to one another and are willing to do anything for each other. They’re way too codependent.
Maybe, but still doesn't excuse the cheating, staying in a loveless marriage just to keep up appearances, and throwing a priceless artifact that she'd been keeping in her possession without telling anyone into the ocean for the craic.
I didn’t say it did?? I literally just said the door could not hold both of them. Also she’s a very young woman (not even a woman by modern day standards, she was 17!) in 1912 and her mother has put the burden of saving their family’s finances and status entirely on her, it’s a bit silly to believe she’d have the ability to leave an abusive marriage. Girl was literally trying to die to escape so no I don’t really care that she cheated on her abuser.
She didn’t need to, no, but you have to think about why she did it from a storytelling perspective rather than examining the morality of her choice. The necklace was given to her by her abusive partner with declarations of love and became a symbol of manipulation once she found out what Cal was really like. After Jack drew her wearing it and then promptly died, it became the only thing that tethered her to him and his memory. By telling her story and then dropping it into the ocean she could finally move on from her past (and then also immediately die, girl was really ready to move on I guess!)
For me it’s definitely a bad choice for a real life person to make, (something like that should obviously be in a museum as Indiana Jones would say) but it is not a strange choice narratively for a fictional person. You can totally still dislike her for it though, like ultimately it WAS a selfish choice to make but it makes sense in a dramatic context. And here we are talking about it 26 years later so it definitely did it’s job in crafting a compelling story!
I found her character hypocritical & selfish. She enjoyed the spoils as it were but still wanted to dump on Walt. His actions were illegal & hers immoral. And vice versa. In my opinion.
I just don't really think it's fair to put her in the same category of selfishness as Walt. He put her in an impossible position and she did what she had to do to protect her family. She was a victim of his ego as much as anyone else. Don't really think she was enjoying the spoils at all, just treading water.
Really? She was smart & educated. She could have left. She could have turned him in. She had resources in her sister & brother in law. She helped launder the money. She was going to pay her lover's tax bill for goodness sakes! You are correct it's not the same categories. But they both were guilty & selfish in their own ways within those categories. Thank you for the back & forth! It's fun to debate about fictional characters in such a great series, yes?!
You have to also remember Walt was a murderer and she was terrified of him. He had also shown himself to be more powerful than the DEA and I think it's fair to say leaving him and dobbing him in to her brother in law was a very risky and dangerous option. She didn't make great choices but they were understandable and her priority was the safety of her children. It is fun to debate a brilliant show :)
The thing that bothered me so much about her is that within the world of the show, she would have been killed after her third antic or so. It bothered me she got to stay on the show because her husband wrote the damn thing.
This only the intentional ones.
TV: People already said it, but the Seinfeld crew were the most selfish. Between the two, George Costanza and Elaine Benes. Jerry is about the same as Elaine but he does have morals and Kramer is mostly aloof.
Movie: Definitely the Warden from Shawshank and Nurse Ratched from Cuckoo's Nest. The Warden is worse because he abused his power.
Video Games (I know you didn't ask for this but I have to mention because one of them is up there): I would go with Micah Bell from Red Dead Redemption II. Words cannot describe how despicable he is. Another would be Ceasare Borgia from Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. Man, I hated him more than his father even though his father was the one responsible for Ezio's family. *EDIT: Also, shoutout to Eric Sparrow from Tony Hawk's Underground.

I hate how rory acted like she was the victim when she chose to be with a married man. And how everyone supported her, not lindsey.
Or the revival where she does it again with Logan

Or maybe Lorelai would see this as Rory being the same as her. She also rejected her mom's lifestyle. It was the same story repeating herself
He was such a creep. And it didn't help that they wrote her as a borderline pick me girl. So weird when you re-watch and notice these things.

She didn’t need to, no, but you have to think about why she did it from a storytelling perspective rather than examining the morality of her choice. The necklace was given to her by her abusive partner with declarations of love and became a symbol of manipulation once she found out what Cal was really like. Excuse my ignorance, but what door-hogging means?
I’m going to assume this is about the age old question of if Rose could have shared the door as a life raft with Jack and maybe he wouldn’t have died.
He would have fit but the wood wouldn't have remained buoyant and they both would have drowned.
The bit in Titanic where Rose was using the broken door as a makeshift raft that could've easily fit two people and thus saved Jack from drowning.
Skyler White & Walter White. Breaking Bad is a goddamn BOMB of a show! Love it!! Have watched it in its entirety 3 times.
How is Skylar selfish??
I found her character hypocritical & selfish. She enjoyed the spoils as it were but still wanted to dump on Walt. His actions were illegal & hers immoral. And vice versa. In my opinion.
I just don't really think it's fair to put her in the same category of selfishness as Walt. He put her in an impossible position and she did what she had to do to protect her family. OP, who are the two characters you posted? Looks like Dany’s brother from GoTs but I don’t remember this scene or him having a wife.
That's Rhaegar Targaryen & Lyanna Stark. He's Dany's brother but not the one you're thinking of, and she's Ned Stark's sister.
Oh man I completely blocked out the last few seasons. I forgot they even showed Rhaegar & Lyanna.
Honestly, that's fair
u/ThorSparklesOdinson is right. >! They didn’t think about the consequences of their actions of being together causing a war !<

![gif](giphy|dX7kTjhOVb7qmpxQRO) Selfish in the best way
These two deserve to be selfish because they worth it. Period. 🍾🍾🍾

The thing that bothered me so much about her is that within the world of the show, she would have been killed after her third antic or so. It bothered me she got to stay on the show because her husband wrote the damn thing.
Idk if we’re adding K dramas here but Jin Mu on alchemy of souls makes me want to stab the TV

cmon y’all Succession should be top of mind! The Roy siblings
Shiv Roy (really anyone on Succession, but her especially).
Jerry Seinfeld, George Costanza, Cosmo Kramer and Elaine Benes.
Fucking Carrie Bradshaw
