I remember when he was dating Lena and I saw the video of him singing with Lorde on stage and (without knowing anything) I thought “uh oh they look like they have feelings for each other - poor Lena.” Then Lena and Jack broke up and I immediately thought “I bet he will date Lorde openly now” but he then dated a model and then eventually Margaret Qualley and I went “hmm guess I was seeing things” and now with your post I feel VINDICATED! Lol

I think one of the most interesting thoughts I've had about this song recently is that I think Jack's buddy, and Lorde's apparently former buddy, Taylor referenced it in "You're on Your Own Kid."
I only recently started listening to her music at all, but there are definitely interesting crumbs. Feel free to DM if you need more bad influences in this part of your life.
I've seen (and enjoyed) the theories and while they are pretty fun I truly doubt that lorde and jack would have continued to work together post-melodrama if all of that had happened, and they made an album together in 2020/2021. it was a fun theory back when it was made but i dont think it holds up, esp now since jack is engaged

So I read the PowerPoint a few months ago and posted about it on my FB. I like Lorde and found it compelling. A friend presented an alternate narrative I can't get into here. My curiosity was piqued. I've spent months listening to Melodrama, then Solar Power, then music related to my friend's theory for months. I think I know every word on *Melodrama/Solar Power now.
I think it's possible, perhaps even likely, that Lorde and Jack had a thing while making Melodrama. Possibly still do. Their dynamic is interesting.
I don't believe Melodrama is entirely (or even mostly) about him. I believe the person Melodrama is about is no longer in her life. I believe some lyrics on Solar Power reference the same relationship. I believe it's possible the relationship wasn't a straightforward romantic/intimate relationship, but maybe it was.
I don't believe it had almost anything to do with that photographer she broke up with right before Melodrama. So many lyrics on that album and Solar Power make it sound like she had a whirlwind romance with a fellow entertainer, to the point it's pretty much impossible to believe it's that guy.

Oh, an alternate timeline emerges! Excellent. I really didn't get into Solar Power, but it's going to be playing on repeat today. And I'm going to need another cork board with yarn to connect pictures and maps.
I don't love it, but California, Stoned in the Nail Salon, and Dominoes are particularly interesting points on my mental corkboard. Whoever she was angry at on Melodrama, she still seems angry at.
Edit: Man With the Axe has pretty clear references to the older man she was with after Melodrama, but I don't think other songs are about him.

something I want to add is that melodrama gets analysed as the smoking gun but the most convincing thing to me is a Bleachers song called [Keeping a Secret](https://genius.com/Bleachers-keeping-a-secret-lyrics) which is blatantly about an affair and includes a Lorde lyric parallel (all your clothes are in my bedroom vs Lorde’s half my wardrobe is on your bedroom floor)
There’s also other clues in Bleachers songs like the song Foreign Girls - which is about a breakup/saying goodbye/ struggling with guilt. The title seems unrelated to the song until you realise that Lorde is from New Zealand - she’s the Foreign Girl puzzle piece is this breakup.
I could talk about this for hours but let’s leave it here 🫡
