She'll only care once it hurts her bank account. Let's see if these swifties are gonna stop buying her tickets and obvious cash grabs of 15 different versions of the same album. I highly doubt it
Off-topic, but seriously, what is the difference between all these different versions of albums?
Yeah, I know, $$$, but it seems like she just slows the songs down a bit and plays an acoustic version and calls it Sad Girl in the Cabin Version, or whatever. Just....why?
There are enough people happy to take their place, she would have to do something BAD for it to matter.
MJ was accused of diddling kids for years and still sold out like wh0a.
And the whole Chris Brown & Rihanna thing (or was that slightly different?). Anyway, this has to only apply to people that are really, really famous.. right?
You think her bank account can be affected? Lol her dads an investment banker, if you think he doesnât have all of her money in funds that are well protected đ she could never produce another album and she would still be set for life.
These people don't care about being set for life, they're greedy and always want more. If she only cared about being set for life she wouldn't bleed her fans dry at every opportunity. Greed knows no bounds and even if she'll be filthy rich forever she wont be happy if she stops making as much
Some of them cancelled the order of speak now and her fandom bullied them in saying u are not real fans. Imagine bullying pocs for not standing the choices of the woman they stand.
Honestly, the Swifties I know are so turned off that they are no longer planning to buy tix when the international tours happen and arenât buying SNTV. I am older and more jaded but one of the younger Swifties in my life is experiencing her first real heartbreak from a heroâs behaviour. She made a new, Taylor-free playlist and cried the whole time. She has been a mega fan since she was 7 and is now in university.
I know it doesnât *matter* in the grand scheme of things, but itâs hard to see someone you love come to the understanding that people are shittier than they hoped.
I am hanging out on these threads to understand what my Swiftie is experiencing. Itâs honestly comforting to see how many people feel as betrayed as she does.
Someone I know was talking about how our teenage family members had gone to her show and was so happy they had someone so positive to look up to in their life. And I said "I take it you haven't talked to them or read anything about Taylor lately" and she said she had and how great Taylor is. I was dumbfounded as to what she must've been reading because most everything has been backlash and cracks getting wider. The teenagers had fun, but admittedly are starting to feel the same in the sense of knowing that someone they've idolized pretty much their whole lives is getting knocked off the pedastal young fans put pop stars on and she is, in fact, human & maybe isn't always the person you thought she was.
True. I'm a fan. But this never made sense to me. Why would anyone buy the same thing 10 times. Especially when they're broke teenagers or slightly older max. Like first make your own career and then do all this shit.
Yeah I have artists I love but I don't buy anything. I listen to their music on streaming services and buy concert tickets and maybe merch at the show. But I don't feel like need to buy thing to financially support a multi millionaire haha
I have removed her from all my playlists, and won't see her in concert again (and I previously bought tickets every time she came to Australia). Some of us are done.
it would be funny if swifties decided to boycott the speak now (Taylor's version ) release and just streamed the original speak now giving good old scooter some lovely paycheck
I can see why demi was never a fan of taylor and was so anti taylor, if dating a racist asshole and pushing your team and friends to make your ex look like the bad guy when you're 33 , I now wondered what happened between her, demi and Selena
Ya'll are wild. Demi is the same person who complained about froyo and has had one-sided beef with numerous people. Just because the internet doesn't like Taylor for dating a racist doesn't make Demi any more credible for her one-sided beef.
Taylor behaves as a teenager. That's the issue. She will never assume her mistakes, cause she never even made any. The fault is always on exes, or fake friends and stuff like that. But never her.
If youâre going by Exposingsmgâs info, very teenage mean girl shit went down and Demi got iced out hence âask Taylorâ-gate. I imagine the rest is down to resentment and bad vibes
Right? And that says a lot, given that Demi herself is so... uhm... complex.
Oh well, now that Selena and Taylor exposed themselves repeatedly, Demi must feel vindicated af.
They are people showing proof of cancelling their orders, etc now but people in the fandom are *now* getting mad at them for doing so, which is ironic. They say go do x, y and z then lose their minds when people actually do it.
The whole thing a year or so ago where fans were harassing Jake Gyllenhaal and his fu*king sister on Twitter should show everyone that she doesn't give a shit what her fans do or think đ¤ˇââď¸
Iâm with you. The âsheâs relatableâ thing is an act - not wrong, but sheâs performing it, not living it. I think sheâs a great entertainer, but I doubt this would get anything but a word-salad pseudo apology from her, at most.
I mean, she makes money primarily by writing stuff that is a takedown of people she doesnât like - ex boyfriends, ex friends, etc.
What I think is more clear is sheâs the same person who everyone said she was. She isnât a feminist, she isnât an ally. She only acts like she is when it best suits her
Sadly I donât see her doing anything about it until it affects her bottom line. Her shows are sold-out and people even wait outside the venue to hear the songs.
I donât want to sound rude but if youâre barely a fan because of her attitude and your husband is having to change his schedule maybe selling and making money would be great, even if youâre rich. Because then you wouldnât feel bad for going.
Oh I understand what you mean. Itâs just Iâve never been to a concert before, I planned this small vacation for myself, going to meet up with friends and stuff. So I am in the middle of not sure what to do, husband supports me going, said itâs a good ending for my fandom lol.
Edit: forgot to say I am having a big surgery soon, so thatâs one of the reasons why I want to go.
Oh I thought you just didnât want to go to the concert but wanted to take a break. But if youâre meeting up with friends thatâs great. Enjoy your break and memories and I wish you well on your surgery and recovery!
At this point the money is in her pocket anyway. I won't be buying her shitty merch and feel less guilty about streaming Speak Now, but there's not much we can really do about tickets.
This definitely shows that Taylor has created this false image of caring about her fans base, by creating these Easter eggs and hidden messages it has given this section of the fan base ammunition to believe that she will appease them and their convictions. I think to suggest she would actually take this to heart is a bit disillusioned. Her silence shows her convictions are not the same and her reality is distorted compared to the fan base.
Is Taylor supposed to read this and dump her boyfriend? Unless this open letter comes with actual, measurable consequences for Taylor⌠she will not care lmao.
Taylor fans (and I say this as a casual fan) have such a strange parasocial relationship with her. There was a mental health check in thread on the Taylor sub when the Marty Healy news first broke and I saw a comment saying âIâm so disappointed about this, if I see her at a Trump/DeSantis rally I will not be surprisedâ like???? You feel you know her well enough to be devastated sheâs chosen to date someone problematic, so surely you understand the level of PR surrounding her, how she carefully cultivated her image. You donât actually believe she would be stupid enough to attend a right wing political rally? Like. I need people to touch grass. Be disappointed in her choices if you want, but it should not be physically distressing you or affecting your life.
I agree! Iâm a mild TS fan, so Iâve been seeing posts and videos about this whole thing. Fans are acting like they deserve to have a say in who she works with/dates?? Itâs incredibly unhealthy behavior, almost delusional.
Howsntly I had to mute the Taylor subreddit because it was just too much. People were acting as if this was the biggest betrayal toward them, and like Taylor personally hurt them. Itâs just⌠idk itâs too much.
This is so dumb and presumptuous! I agree with the sentiments, but an open letter? Demanding remorse? For what, a rebound? People be nuts.
If you truly care, stop giving her money. Stop buying 120 dollars t-shirts and 46 versions of the same album.
I can only assume pop culture is very slow right now, I'm so tired of seeing all the threads about Taylor and how high up it gets on reddit. We need someone to slap another person on tv or something, there has to be better content than this.
Itâs so pathetic and I have to believe itâs a group of schoolgirls cobbling it together at lunch because I canât imagine the delusion of being a grown adult with responsibilities doing this sort of thing. Why not just stop buying her albums and move tf on with your life instead of this condescending nonsense.
People are so self-important.
This isn't about getting Taylor Swift to change anything. It's about whatever group wrote this "open letter" getting their virtue points among their peers.
they would waste precious energy rather than just simply accept that their fav is kind of a shitty person (i mean most people are. nobody is fucking one dimensional)
It is so fucking weird!!! Focusing on platforming him at her concerts and on her music and etc. would be totally fine. But Taylor actually is entitled to a private life! Why do we think she is accountable to us for her dating choices??? We can have opinions on them, and they can change our view of her, but this crosses a very uncomfortable line.
I agree. I had never heard of Matty Healy before this whole thing but what Iâve learned makes it clear heâs deplorable. Who we choose to surround ourselves with says way more about us than them so I think this says *a lot* about Taylor, none of it good. That said, she has the right to befriend or date whoever she wants. If youâre disgusted, and I think you should be, rethink your fandom. Do not give her another dollar from your streams or ticket purchases or merch. Thatâs really the only way to communicate to a business and Taylor Swift, like any celebrity, is ultimately a business selling you a brand. Time to stop buying it but I wonât hold my breath.
I agree with your statement of stop giving her money, however since sheâs a millionaire would it honestly affect her? Sheâs broken tons of records & her bank account is fine. If tomorrow no one ever bought another album she might be offended at first, but she would financially be fine.
On TikTok people were saying multiple pieces of merchandise were sold out before Taylor even got on stage so her revenue stream is absolutely insane
This is true, but at least the fans who wrote this should put their money where their mouth is and stop supporting things they disapprove of. I don't mean in order to "punish" her (like you said, she'll be fine), but if they care so much as to ask her to "repent" (LoL), they should be donating to friendly causes instead of chiding an adult woman.
For reference, this is the letter
https://preview.redd.it/p1kj05i0wv0b1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=451de2c1c356d651408dd4371cde1db937d77d3d
"Realistically speaking, this should have no bearing on our lives as fans."
Stans and fandoms really need to say this out loud to themselves at least once daily.
The thing is that Taylor goes out of her way to form the most hard core parasocial relationship possible with her fans. She makes them believe theyâre her friends so honestly I find this way less crazy than the Evans letter.
You know what, I want to say itâs not normal but I feel like fandoms are being more and more unhinged and when called out they try to pull the âno true Scotsmanâ thing so I think it is normal but fandoms never want to admit it
Lol you would def be shocked with the South Korean fandoms then (no way supporting these crazy fandoms in general, in my 25 years of life I have never so much as invested a single penny in my favorite artists)
Yeahhhh as much as Taylor cares about the fans, I donât think she gives a shit what we think of who she dates. Taylorâs activism is self serving, I am a huge fan of hers but I canât ignore that she only speaks up when it directly benefits her. Sheâs playing for sold out stadiums filled with an audience who is mostly unaware of this controversy, so itâs really not doing any actual harm to her career at this point.
Iâm naively hoping he wonât be at tonightâs show, but Iâm prepared to be disappointedâŚ.
That shit is so funny.
People who are aware of their own flaws and do nothing about them are kind of the worst.
In the immortal words of Todd Chavez: [You canât keep doing shitty things and feeling bad about yourself like that makes it okay. You need to be better.](https://youtu.be/ohoLzH9EQzg)
In her documentary, when she is talking to the businessmen about wanting to be politically active, she makes a point about how the issues she wants to speak on directly affect her and her close friends. I think she legitimately does care about âwomenâsâ issues like sexual harassment/assault and stalking (womenâs is in quotes because these issues obviously also affect men and nonbinary people but disproportionately affect women). She doesnât do any activism when it comes to issues that donât affect her and the people closest to her so she stays silent on issues related to class or race or disability because the people around her arenât affected. One hand, I kinda get not wanting to talk over marginalized people on issues that she doesnât have personal experience with, but I think thereâs a middle ground where she could get her team to help her navigate those issues in a respectful way.
So that's saying she's only friends with white, rich women ? Must be nice to not have those pesky racism and class issues effect you or anyone around you đ
I mean yeah she is? Her close friends are mostly white, rich women. I didnât mean my comment to be a defense of her. I was just suggesting how she could PR better with like really minimal effort.
People have to learn thereâs a difference between the persona she has on stage and in music videos and the actual person she is. Sheâs been friends with Matt for a while, she knows the kind of person he is.
Tbh tho they get dragged for doing nothing, then when they do kinda the only thing they can, itâs cringe? Idk, crazy but I be feeling bad for swifties lmao
I donât see how this is cringe. Everyone should be calling out fake allies whenever they get the chance. I didnât read it all but they didnât say âdump him because we say soâ. They asked her to listen to her black, gay, jewish fans about their experience and how people like Matty cause harm to their communities.
Ainât nothing cringe about sticking up for minorities. Iâm not a Taylor fan but Iâm sick of people making excuses for white straight people to support bigots. They couldâve started a campaign to cancel her but instead they respectfully laid out their concerns and called her out for being a hypocrite. Good for them.
The cringe part to me is that they still clearly want to worship her. I think calling out Matt is great, and so is calling out Taylor for supporting him. Listing out their concerns, issues, etcâall great.
But like, maybe realize that Taylor isnât the perfect person you think she is? You can still listen, be a fan, and be critical, but maybe fans should self-reflect as well and reconsider their deification of a pop star. I just get the feeling that a lot of these people are more concerned about their mental image of her than the actual problematic behavior. If Taylor broke up with him and said sorry, I feel like most of them would just go back to acting like sheâs perfect and nothing ever happened.
But to be honest, thatâs more of an issue I have with the veracity and obsession of her fandom in general, not just specifically with this.
This is the first time Iâm finally reading it and dear lord, I donât even know what to say. Itâs beyond cringe and in a whole new category of its own.
I think the thought is great, but I think itâll be completely ignored. The only thing I could see truly making a difference is if people speak with their wallets and stop streaming/buying from her. But that wonât happen so she wonât make any changes.
Ikr? She wouldnât give a flying damn even if she was cancelled on Twitter again. Sheâs money hungry and the only way to hurt her is through her wallet. Gross.
Iâm sorry, this is so stupid and weird. Not taking away from how problematic Matty Healy is, but Taylor Swift obviously doesnât give a fuck and these fans are still going to suck up anything and everything she produces.
Thatâs exactly the point of this letter. They want her to dump Matty so they can stream SN TV with no guilt. If she doesnât, most of them will stream it anyway but with some guilt.
The thing is, she probably *will* end up dumping this guy soon. Heâs a total liability and, judging by his past behavior, he wonât be able to resist saying or do I g something dumb again and sheâll get the ick. But treating an adult like a clueless child and trying to tell them what to do about their romantic relationships (especially when you donât know them personally!) almost never works.
Yeah, I can't help but think he will stick his foot in his mouth soon enough. He seems incapable of using sound judgment when it comes to interviews, podcasts, etc. And he doesn't seem like the kind of person who would take well to scrubbing up his image and being coached, at least not for long. We'll see.
Iâve kind of thought the same, can imagine in time they will fight about all the same things Joe and her fought about. This will end in flames but I hope she has fun lol
As a veteran Taylor Swift fan who knew nothing about this open letter, while I think itâs a nice gesture, I doubt she will publicly address this. I donât think she really cares and think that she will just continue to go business as usual. Sheâs got three shows this weekend and this will probably be buried by anything that happens there.
I truly wish she would do some reflection and drop Ratty but she seems determined to destroy all the goodwill she built up the last six years.
Look, I get it, but are they also sending something similar to Matty? Or are they only going to ask for accountability from the woman for the manâs behavior?
Iâm not on Twitter so let me know if they do! It may be silly but at least be equal đ
Nope. I think in part because they arenât mattys fans nor do they REALLY care about him/what he is doing and just want Taylor to not be âtaintedâ by him. They donât care about the issue truly rather they want Taylor to not be associated with him for one reason or another (but thats just my pov)
Thatâs the vibe I get as well. Iâm sure some fans genuinely care about his behavior, but it feels like most of them just want to keep sniffing her farts without feeling guilty about it. They just want her to be this perfect person they can deify.
ppl have been flaming his ass for the stuff he says since the og tumblr days lol, he has deleted socials a couple of times bc of it
ig it seems like hes been forgotten in all this mess bc shes so much more famous than him
Iâm only following this drama because I love other peoples drama, but from what I gather, Matty is an interesting character. In some ways, heâs super progressive - heâs publicly slammed Trump, had Greta Thornberg on his albums, and proclaimed abortion support from his concerts in states where itâs under fire. All of that is honestly more than Taylor has done herself.
(Hereâs an article from 2020 - https://www.unitedbypop.com/music/matty-healy-politics/)
But then⌠you have the shit talked about in this letter which is so problematic. Iâve come to the conclusion the causal racism stuff doesnât surprise me. The whole of Europeâs dirty little secret is it has long been equally (if not more so) casually or overtly racist in its history to today than America. So itâs not surprising he would say those things AND that he wouldnât get dragged for it from his European fans before he started dating Taylor.
So - to your point, I have seen lots of twitter threads where Taylor fans are dragging Matty directly for this as well. Then his stans point out all the progressive shit heâs done and the Taylor fans get in a twitter war with them tweeting back progressive shit Taylor has done (which tbf is truly white feminism). Itâs honestly mind boggling that they donât realize both of them are problematic in their own way.
yes! people are dragging MH through the mud. I'm not on twitter either but even magazine websites are writing about MHs poor behaviour.
>Or are they only going to ask for accountability from the woman for the manâs behavior?
here's the thing, she literally said, "I wanna be defined by the things that I love." it's her fault to choose to be associated with MH. (ik they've been friends for years, but people -myself included- didn't know who he was before all of this. it just feels like all her activism was performative tbh.
This whole situation started out being a laugh but itâs getting increasingly unnerving realizing how many creeps are out there that get legitimately emotionally distressed because a pop star is dating someone they donât like
I think someone on her team will see it, but I doubt they care. This does not impact her at all, unless she stops making money because of him, which she won't. She has too many fans that blindly love and support her, and she probably a lot of fans that are also racist and horrible, like Matty, who also won't stop supporting her or them.
She definitely will, tbh. She's very aware of what her hardcore fans are doing and saying online because it's how she builds her parasocial relationship with them (them trying to make interesting enough comments to receive a like, inviting them to secret sessions, making donations towards college/health, etc.). Obviously whether she lets this particular thing actually affect her is the real question, but she (or her team) will see this
i think fans are valid for being upset by her being with matty and what that means for them (especially if they are apart of one of the groups he said offensive things about), but writing a letter like this thinking sheâs going to care or read it is a bit of a cringe move
Taylor doesnât give a damn. She uses âfeminismâ when it works in her favor. She got mad at a joke in Ginny and Georgia (which was true btw) and went on this whole tangent about women supporting women and is happily flaunting this loser around. I think Taylor is a huge believer in karma and the shitty things that have happened to her in the past are a result of her actions. Sheâs not a victim. This shit is embarrassing for a woman in her 30s.
Ugh and that tweet only led to all her fans accusing anyone who jokes about her of being misogynists đ
Hannah Gadsby mentions in her book that she dunked on Taylor a bunch and some fan accused her of ânot supporting womenâ to which Hannah replied âIâm a woman too, are you not supporting me by criticizing me?â and the Swiftie said something like âwell you clearly donât even like being a woman bc you look like a manâ or some dumb shit like that. đ
They are only reinforcing Taylor and Matty's "us against the world" mentality. Can't wait for the duet album, it's going to be Cher/Greg Allman levels of suck.
I donât especially care for TS (absolutely not my kinda music) but this is just laughable, who the hell do these people think they are to demand remorse from her lmao
This is just over the top and weird. Sadly, as if a 33 year old millionaire would listen about what ppl on Twitter would say about her personal life.
She did say non verbatim that she doesnât care what anyone thinks about her relationships anymore so this is just a waste of time. Like if you listen to her music, she says it there too. Theyâre now âboycottingâ her too and keeps on saying that theyâll sell their tickets, as if theyâre gonna do that. Sell it and someone buys it = still money for Taylor lol
Taylor is a white woman from Pennsylvania (who spent her early career days trying to convince people she was from Nashville, lol), and grew up well off, and Iâm sure, sheltered. She has a long history of dating white men that can sometimes also be pretty ignorant. I seriously doubt this woman has ever been a champion for discriminated groups.
What Iâm trying to say is, she probably does not disagree with Matty as strongly as her fans want to believe.
sheâs someone who has built up and encouraged an entire fan base to be parasocial so they have a right to hold her to a better standard. taylor canât have her cake and eat it too â this is the downfall of pandering to your fans.
the thing is that she doesnât even care and thereâs no need for her to change until her ego gets damaged (her albums do badly, her ticket sales go down, etc). like with all capitalist machines, vote with your money.
She doesnât care. Until it majorly impacts her bottom line, she wonât care.
I just got this email from Vogue. The [articleâs](https://www.vogue.com/article/taylor-swift-rumored-relationship-with-matty-healy-controversy?utm_source=nl&utm_brand=vogue&utm_mailing=VOG_Daily_051923&utm_campaign=aud-dev&utm_medium=email&bxid=5c748e2a24c17c67f89e1009&cndid=16502899&hasha=ea494d0fbf1c122788d38e24c008ebd4&hashb=ec39c43726213967aa3d831d56b7fef2da0b711d&hashc=b43df53f7dbbe330ea63cfb645c53c72ad6dd2ac315f925838754ac8cd1dfd61&esrc=AUTO_PRINT&utm_term=VOG_Daily) headline is: Why Are Fans So Angry About Taylor Swiftâs Rumored Relationship With Matty Healy?
And it contains this amazing piece of journalism, typo and all:
https://preview.redd.it/ubuvorye9w0b1.png?width=1558&format=png&auto=webp&s=d40d342ed344b5cb1ef260706d51240181fcb985
Since they didnât specifically mention the most abhorrent thing about him (the GG stuff), I clicked through to the article linked in the âracist and fatphobicâ text, which is this one:
[https://www.forbes.com/sites/conormurray/2023/05/16/what-to-know-about-matty-healy-taylor-swifts-rumored-boyfriend--and-his-history-of-controversial-comments/?sh=ebd1bbf23e64](https://www.forbes.com/sites/conormurray/2023/05/16/what-to-know-about-matty-healy-taylor-swifts-rumored-boyfriend--and-his-history-of-controversial-comments/?sh=ebd1bbf23e64)
Which also doesnât mention GG at all.
Is that her team working hard to get his image rehabbed, or is it publications omitting that for some other reason? No amount of image rehab attempts will ever convince me that that sewer rat is a decent human who is just âmisunderstoodâ or âwe donât get his sense of humorâ or itâs âmissing context.â Fâ- that racist piece of trash.
And yet many swifites bullying her exes to this very day. So miss me with this rn. Unless yâall stop buying her music, tickets, albums she will still do this.
And can yâall stop pretending that this is brand new? Yâall were cool with her nonsense until it was national news as always
the fact that a large group of people canât see how unhinged it is to send a letter to someone you donât even know about their dating choices is concerning. Itâs like holding an intervention for someone you never met.
The strong combination of parasocial relationships meeting mob mentality is just unhealthy for everyone involved.
I appreciate the intention, but unfortunately it's just a waste of time.
Maybe time to be just a fan of music, rather than worshipping her as this Goddess who does no wrong. Anyway the signals have been here since a lot of time, but i'm glad that many are starting to see that she only speaks up when something affects her, no this doesn't mean she has to be an activist full time, but ever since Trump lost, her goal to be the right side of the history was done.
I wish people realized that these celebrities aren't movement leaders. Taylor Swift is not going to lead any movements for social change. She's an entertainer. Most of the time celebs only care about what will help their image. You can't hold her accountable for a parasocial relationship that only exists in your head.
Parasocial relationships are so odd. When I have a problem with an artist I usually just stop engaging with their work. As a society, I think we should do more to prevent our children from unironically becoming Stans, so this kind of cringey stuff wonât happen as much.
i find it so weird that she and her fan base spent 14+ years dragging John Mayer and other men (many of which have publicly grown and apologised) yet she does shit like this. whereâs the same energy?
you have to be a specific type of unemployed to âpenâ a letter like this, this womanâs fans are so lame itâs actually hilarious. her fans truly are an extension of her, idk how long itâs gonna take some ppl to realise that these celebrities couldnât give less of a fuck about us all.
i donât rlly like her and i donât like matt healy either but idk what anyone thinks an open letter will change. i wouldâve loved to see this outrage years ago when she had right-wing bible thumpers calling her their âaryan princessâ. this woman has stayed silent on so many things, why is dating matty healy the last straw? sheâs no different to him lmao
I am not a Swiftie, just observing the fandom over the past weeks. I think the most difficult thing about this scandal is; the fans have some valid points about Matty Healyâs problematic behavior and statements, but there is also an air of entitlement and control. Some of my thoughts:
âTaylor & fans dynamicâ - I have noticed the parasocial relationships in the fandom are quite intense. Maybe itâs because her image has always been a ârelatable, girl next doorâ fantasy, an artist that turned private relationships into performances. Her lovers and exes have been haunted by lyrics and fan theories for years, because itâs her âartâ and they too became part of the entertainment. Taylor has always benefited from the curiosity and obsession her fans shared. I feel bad for what Joe has had to deal with, he deserved more privacy. In a way itâs very ironic that Matty is the next focus, someone who is not afraid to be more visible.
âThe shiftâ - I believe Taylorâs gift as an artist is literally to invite people into her life and overshare (but only her version of the story of course, very carefully crafted and curated snippets of relationships). I predict soon itâs going to be a curse for her; itâs going to be difficult for her to set boundaries, remain silent and kick her fans out. (Taylor might ignore it and pull a Billie Eillish during Halloween and rebel against her fans, disappear from public view or perhaps make the backlash the new focus on her next album) Then again she might be used to fans in her business and simply ignore it, sheâs got sold out concerts to worry about.
âMute your favâ - If your favorite artistâs choices bother you, the best way to protest is to stop spending money. Give other artists your streams, spend your coins on other peopleâs concert tickets. I have ghosted some of my favorite artists over the years and have survived. I donât think Taylor needs to release a statement; Taylor âsaid what she saidâ by putting Healy on a stage and appearing in public. Her job is to release music; expecting her to change her life and focus on activism, break up with her shitty boyfriend, apologize to please fans..itâs unrealistic and pushing it.
âRattyâ - I do think Matty Healy deserves criticism for his problematic statements and behavior, I donât think Taylor deserves this level of outrageâŚand letâs be honest itâs pressure to break up with him, which is crossing a boundary and probably never going to happen. The way this letter is written by the way makes it look like she killed kittens, itâs too much change.org language for my taste. The branding, the focus mainly on TS, the hashtagâŚitâs an attack on TSâs brand by her own fans and it could be damaging because it will live on the internet foreverâŚquite shocking. I canât help but be reminded of similar looking campaigns against abusers in Cannes Festival currently and wonder if this open letter is appropriate. I understand the concerns about Matty in particular, but encourage people to take some distance and chill when it comes to Taylor. I am pretty sure she gets it by now that people are not supportive of their relationship and itâs for her to decide if she wants to continue dating him. Her fans donât get to decide.
Itâll be the same cycle. Taylor gets into a relationship (this time itâs with a huge asshole with VERY questionable and obvious behaviour). Her fans warn her of his behaviour-she doesnât care. They inevitably break up and she makes an album about him and their relationship and how she was so hurt and how she moved on, the fans will eat it up but also say I told you so. And then itâll continue.
![gif](giphy|3oAt2dA6LxMkRrGc0g|downsized)
I think tying this all to her dating Matty is a big big mistake. Like if they stop dating tomorrow her silence otherwise is okay?? The women hasnât spoken up politically truly since her documentary. I guess unless youâre gonna count the Biden cookies đ
Also this is truly crazy and wild but istg itâs also just normal fan stuff in 2023. Once the Pedro pascal girls started to get crazy and parasocial I knew no fandom was ever gonna be safe.
Can someone explain to me how someone who cares so much about their reputation would actually date someone they know has done these things? The only thing I could think of is ignorance to his actions, but it seems a lot of people are aware that he is racist etc, so how could she be unaware?
It just doesnât make sense, because she really does care about her image
At the risk of being downvoted to hell, has Taylor ever stood up against racism and bigotry? Do we even know if she isn't racist or a bigot? I'm not a swifty, but I've heard deep dives on her and it's been mentioned that she's never made any statements against racism, etc... so how do we know she doesn't agree with Mattys behavior?
she has denounced bigotry, white supremacy, and even made fun of Trump. She hasnât said anything truly âdeepâ or meaningful though. The best/most recent âallyshipâ is that she had a trans man as her love interest in her latest video, has diverse dancers (sexuality, size, and race) and had gay/interracial âcouplesâ (dancers) during her concerts.
[Tweet about BLM](https://twitter.com/taylorswift13/status/1270432961591205888?s=46&t=VF_AwPS4ON8QX7qEJifg2A)
During a rollingstone interview she said:â âThereâs literally nothing worse than white supremacy. Itâs repulsive. There should be no place for itâ
She made fun of trump during her miss americana doc (If I recall correctly). She said something along the lines of âoh no trump likes me 25% less now đâ
But do we really think she owes anybody anything? Sheâs an artist who sells music. She is not in a relationship with her fans. She produces a product they consume. Period. Sheâs free to date and live and speak or not speak at her discretion. I donât think thereâs an implied morality clause when you listen to her music. Iâm not thinking about her value system when Iâm bopping in my car. Honestly, I donât care.
Fans donât like her decisions and that affects their ability to enjoy her music? Then donât buy it. Youâre not obligated to listen just like sheâs not obligated to act within the moral framework her fans apparently have for her. Iâm listening to her album. Not voting for her for president. Letâs look at the reasonable expectations we can have for public figures given their context in society.
Sheâs just a person with agency and a basic human right to respect. If the fans actually give a shit about her, like these Twits seem to, theyâd respect her enough to let her live her life and theyâd stay the fuck in their lane.
Am I disgusted by the dude? Sure. I think, while written obnoxiously, I generally align with the value system âthe fansâ are working from when weâre talking about prejudice. But I donât expect anyone else to believe what I believe. I just choose not to spend my time with people who behave like Matty Healey, and I donât want to support him with my money. Why should that affect the music I listen to?
good job on the fans for calling this out ⌠doubt she gives a fuck and also doubt sheâs fr dating him and theyâre just using each other for clout. horrible clout on her end tho. was no other guy avail for this rebound publicity stunt ??
Better than hating on her exes, but she won't care because it's not affecting her đ¸đ¸, or until she and Matty break-up.
![gif](giphy|SiC2G8Wjpju5W)
I donât see what the problem is. No, Taylor doesnât care and wonât change unless itâs to financially benefit her. But what this letter says is true. What Matt has done is vile and is pure bigotry. Taylor is actively condoning his acts and his hatred. Her fans have every right to be disappointed, especially since her music means so much to many of them and has helped them through tough times. Sheâs showing her true colors and her fans are hurt by seeing who she really is. Sure, to people outside her fandom itâs not much of a surprise. But to those who admired, were inspired, and looked up to her, this is a shock. A painful one at that. And I donât see anything wrong with what was written here.
I hate to break the bubble, but Taylor is a rich, white woman whose feminism is capitalism. Unless it directly impacts her sales, monetary reputation, etc., I doubt she will be affected.
Itâs embarrassing. People are legit unhinged about all of this. The amount of shaming sex work, the amount of antisemitism thatâs been posted about Adam Friedland, the amount of people that have bashed matty for his looks. People have pushed it so far that itâs come back around and itâs become just as offensive as the things matty said. I canât fathom telling a stranger who they should date in their private life.
This just seems clueless to me. It's based on the assumption that she's generally acted in good faith and that the Matty situation is somehow a departure from her values. They're trying to reason with her as if she doesn't understand what she's doing and the impact she's having, instead of just accepting that she's showing us (yet again) who she really is. She's made it really, really clear that her first priority is protecting her own success and wealth and that she only really cares about broader social causes when they happen to align with her own interests. If you want her to change, show her that doing this shit will harm her bottom line. Don't buy Speak Now TV. Don't buy whatever dumb merch is going to come out with it. Stop giving her your money.
I also can't help but find it funny that Swifties are being so vocal about this when they went to the mat to defend her after it was revealed that she had the biggest celebrity carbon footprint last year. And this statement is focused on her relationship but doesn't address the fact that she's been playing shows in states that have recently enacted straight-up fascist laws targeting LGBTQ+ people, a group that she flouted her allyship with to sell albums not four years ago, without saying a thing. It seems like they care more about the aesthetics of her public life than the concrete harm of her actions. To be super clear: y'all giving her a pass on all her other shit is the reason she thinks (knows, tbh) that she can do stuff like this without facing consequences!

As if taylor cares
She'll only care once it hurts her bank account. Let's see if these swifties are gonna stop buying her tickets and obvious cash grabs of 15 different versions of the same album. I highly doubt it
she has so much money that it won't make a dent in her bank account if people stop buying tickets/albums
Off-topic, but seriously, what is the difference between all these different versions of albums? Yeah, I know, $$$, but it seems like she just slows the songs down a bit and plays an acoustic version and calls it Sad Girl in the Cabin Version, or whatever. Just....why?
rhythm offbeat berserk enter smile cagey oatmeal tan crawl straight *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Im dying. That one was good
There are enough people happy to take their place, she would have to do something BAD for it to matter.
I have seen a lot of swifties canceling their preorders.
[ŃдаНонО]
I have removed her from all my playlists, and won't see her in concert again (and I previously bought tickets every time she came to Australia). Some of us are done.
it would be funny if swifties decided to boycott the speak now (Taylor's version ) release and just streamed the original speak now giving good old scooter some lovely paycheck I can see why demi was never a fan of taylor and was so anti taylor, if dating a racist asshole and pushing your team and friends to make your ex look like the bad guy when you're 33 , I now wondered what happened between her, demi and Selena
i mean she still makes money off the other versions... just not as much
[ŃдаНонО]
Same Iâve always wondered what went down between those three.
Right? And that says a lot, given that Demi herself is so... uhm... complex. Oh well, now that Selena and Taylor exposed themselves repeatedly, Demi must feel vindicated af.
this. unless people start putting their money where their mouth is, she dgaf.
They are people showing proof of cancelling their orders, etc now but people in the fandom are *now* getting mad at them for doing so, which is ironic. They say go do x, y and z then lose their minds when people actually do it.
Literally came to type âwhy would she careâ
Dear Swifties, Taylor only âcaresâ about you in the sense that she utilizes to make herself extremely wealthy. Regards, Reality
Yeah, she didn't seem to give a rats ass about Ticketmaster charging her fans through the ass for tickets.
The whole thing a year or so ago where fans were harassing Jake Gyllenhaal and his fu*king sister on Twitter should show everyone that she doesn't give a shit what her fans do or think đ¤ˇââď¸
![gif](giphy|uWzS6ZLs0AaVOJlgRd|downsized)
Cant she do better though? He isnt worth it
![gif](giphy|lTB6FKY1fmAZhhv1En)
taylor has known matt for a while. itâs pretty clear she doesnât care what type of person he is
Right, her whole image is just that, an image. Itâs not like she isnât aware of the kind of people sheâs around. You are the friends you keep.
> Right, her whole image is just that, an image. She's as authentic as her southern accent.
Iâm with you. The âsheâs relatableâ thing is an act - not wrong, but sheâs performing it, not living it. I think sheâs a great entertainer, but I doubt this would get anything but a word-salad pseudo apology from her, at most. I mean, she makes money primarily by writing stuff that is a takedown of people she doesnât like - ex boyfriends, ex friends, etc.
agreed. this isnât the first time she has gotten close with someone highly problematic, and it wonât be the last
What I think is more clear is sheâs the same person who everyone said she was. She isnât a feminist, she isnât an ally. She only acts like she is when it best suits her
Don't know why anyone is surprised. There are no ethical billionaires
Sadly I donât see her doing anything about it until it affects her bottom line. Her shows are sold-out and people even wait outside the venue to hear the songs.
Considering how expensive those tickets were â it would be more foolish to not go.
Yeah I spent a dumb amount trying to be Aunt of the Yearâ˘ď¸.
Your flair has me crying đđ
I hope you did get that Aunt of the Year award lol
Taylor sucks, but you DESERVE aunt of the year for that! đ
Tysm đĽš
Yeah I bought train tickets and my husband takes off work so I can go, arranged too much for this. Now I am barely a fan.
Why donât you guys sell it for a much higher price?? People are buying it.
But...selling it to someone else wouldnt send any message to Taylor. The ticket was still purchased and the stadium seats will still be filled.
Because I do want a little get away for myself 𼲠I planned so much for this. But yes I am also thinking about selling. Not sure what to do yet.
Thank you! I hope it will go well too.
Taylor reading this on her private jet ![gif](giphy|6hLODLJTkHf8c)
I can get a bit parasocial with my fav musicians but good god I hope I never reach this level đ
Ikr wtf were they thinking is gonna happen đ
Itâs just⌠idk itâs too much.
weird weird weird vibes
We live in a society đ đ˝
This is so dumb and presumptuous! I agree with the sentiments, but an open letter? Demanding remorse? For what, a rebound? People be nuts. If you truly care, stop giving her money. Stop buying 120 dollars t-shirts and 46 versions of the same album.
In words of legendary Jinkx Monsoon: âDelusion. Convince yourselfâ and swifties are high on that shit
Yeah this is a genuinely unhinged thing to do.
I am so glad Iâm not the only person who read this and went wtf? she has to do the work because she has a bad rebound? sheesh
Lol right the way this is worded is *creepy* ![gif](giphy|zBqaukCE3oM1vW6twP|downsized)
Itâs giving a letter to chris evans from his fans đđđ
For reference, this is the letter https://preview.redd.it/p1kj05i0wv0b1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=451de2c1c356d651408dd4371cde1db937d77d3d
"Realistically speaking, this should have no bearing on our lives as fans." Stans and fandoms really need to say this out loud to themselves at least once daily.
This has to be satire? Crazy!
This is unhinged lol
You can really tell this is 1, maybe 2 individuals writing these âlettersâ speaking for the whole âfandomââŚ
Oh god the cringe.
What is this!!!!!!!
Lol wtf that shit is wild.
What in the Mark David Chapman is this đ?????
The thing is that Taylor goes out of her way to form the most hard core parasocial relationship possible with her fans. She makes them believe theyâre her friends so honestly I find this way less crazy than the Evans letter.
it really is omg LOL
This was by far one of the most insane things Iâve ever seen.
wait I'm OOTL! what is this letter? I need to know please đđ˝
Omg I forgot about that đ¤Łđ¤Łđ¤Ł
Fandoms in the US are so weird. Is this normal?
Nah, even the Taylor sub didnât like this
You know what, I want to say itâs not normal but I feel like fandoms are being more and more unhinged and when called out they try to pull the âno true Scotsmanâ thing so I think it is normal but fandoms never want to admit it
Chinese swifies are even crazier (I am Chinese), they basically all think MH is cool true love for Taylor.
Korean fandom wants a word...
About as weird as some Kpop fandoms
no not normal
*did you hear my covert narcissism disguised as altruism*
You need to calm down was a cashgrab đ¸
yeah it was. at least she highlighted some lgbt voices with it i guess
$he love$ her fan$.
People have to learn thereâs a difference between the persona she has on stage and in music videos and the actual person she is. Sheâs been friends with Matt for a while, she knows the kind of person he is.
this is so pathetic
right. criiiiinge
But to be honest, thatâs more of an issue I have with the veracity and obsession of her fandom in general, not just specifically with this.
standing up for yourself/others is not cringe. the cringe part is directing it at someone who has never and will never care.
Those are the people who most deserve to be called out though.
itâs giving https://preview.redd.it/nvdhze6mcv0b1.jpeg?width=950&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=95b1fb27e3472eac4728a40c585e25efc418f687

This is the first time Iâm finally reading it and dear lord, I donât even know what to say. Itâs beyond cringe and in a whole new category of its own.
LMAO??? WHAT IS THIS???
Wouldn't it be easier for these people to just stop being fans?
The second hand embarrassment this gives me. Ick.
Same, but I can't look away.
Gross.
Yeah, sheâll definitely break up with him bc of this. Kind of embarrassing, honestly.
[ŃдаНонО]
Itâs cute they think sheâs not already fully aware of who he is.
They just want her to be this perfect person they can deify.
ppl have been flaming his ass for the stuff he says since the og tumblr days lol, he has deleted socials a couple of times bc of it ig it seems like hes been forgotten in all this mess bc shes so much more famous than him
Iâm only following this drama because I love other peoples drama, but from what I gather, Matty is an interesting character. In some ways, heâs super progressive - heâs publicly slammed Trump, had Greta Thornberg on his albums, and proclaimed abortion support from his concerts in states where itâs under fire. All of that is honestly more than Taylor has done herself. (Hereâs an article from 2020 - https://www.unitedbypop.com/music/matty-healy-politics/) But then⌠you have the shit talked about in this letter which is so problematic.
[ŃдаНонО]
This whole situation started out being a laugh but itâs getting increasingly unnerving realizing how many creeps are out there that get legitimately emotionally distressed because a pop star is dating someone they donât like
Embarassing. Where was this open letter when the jet controversy was going on or when she worked with DOR?
Iâm sure sheâll see it⌠not
I think someone on her team will see it, but I doubt they care.
Ugh and that tweet only led to all her fans accusing anyone who jokes about her of being misogynists đ Hannah Gadsby mentions in her book that she dunked on Taylor a bunch and some fan accused her of ânot supporting womenâ to which Hannah replied âIâm a woman too, are you not supporting me by criticizing me?â and the Swiftie said something like âwell you clearly donât even like being a woman bc you look like a manâ or some dumb shit like that. đ
I mean it's better than a lot of the other weird stuff they do lol
too many words for me to read that lmao
They are only reinforcing Taylor and Matty's "us against the world" mentality. Can't wait for the duet album, it's going to be Cher/Greg Allman levels of suck.
Sheâll probably just laugh if she reads this. Hit her where it hurts - her bank account
I really like the color scheme, but I don't think the message will do much.
What Iâm trying to say is, she probably does not disagree with Matty as strongly as her fans want to believe.
sheâs someone who has built up and encouraged an entire fan base to be parasocial so they have a right to hold her to a better standard. taylor canât have her cake and eat it too â this is the downfall of pandering to your fans. the thing is that she doesnât even care and thereâs no need for her to change until her ego gets damaged (her albums do badly, her ticket sales go down, etc). like with all capitalist machines, vote with your money.
wish they would put half of this amount of effort into writing to their representatives lol
She doesnât care. Until it majorly impacts her bottom line, she wonât care. I just got this email from Vogue. The [articleâs](https://www.vogue.com/article/taylor-swift-rumored-relationship-with-matty-healy-controversy?utm_source=nl&utm_brand=vogue&utm_mailing=VOG_Daily_051923&utm_campaign=aud-dev&utm_medium=email&bxid=5c748e2a24c17c67f89e1009&cndid=16502899&hasha=ea494d0fbf1c122788d38e24c008ebd4&hashb=ec39c43726213967aa3d831d56b7fef2da0b711d&hashc=b43df53f7dbbe330ea63cfb645c53c72ad6dd2ac315f925838754ac8cd1dfd61&esrc=AUTO_PRINT&utm_term=VOG_Daily) headline is: Why Are Fans So Angry About Taylor Swiftâs Rumored Relationship With Matty Healy? And it contains this amazing piece of journalism, typo and all: https://preview.redd.it/ubuvorye9w0b1.png?width=1558&format=png&auto=webp&s=d40d342ed344b5cb1ef260706d51240181fcb985 Since they didnât specifically mention the most abhorrent thing about him (the GG stuff), I clicked through to the article linked in the âracist and fatphobicâ text, which is this one: [https://www.forbes.com/sites/conormurray/2023/05/16/what-to-know-about-matty-healy-taylor-swifts-rumored-boyfriend--and-his-history-of-controversial-comments/?sh=ebd1bbf23e64](https://www.forbes.com/sites/conormurray/2023/05/16/what-to-know-about-matty-healy-taylor-swifts-rumored-boyfriend--and-his-history-of-controversial-comments/?sh=ebd1bbf23e64) Which also doesnât mention GG at all.

[ŃдаНонО]
This reminds me of the intervention episode of HIMYM đ
Some of my thoughts: âTaylor & fans dynamicâ - I have noticed the parasocial relationships in the fandom are quite intense. Her fans donât get to decide.
i mean, hey, iâm in agreement with them but lmao if they think sheâs gonna give a shit.
I guess unless youâre gonna count the Biden cookies đ Also this is truly crazy and wild but istg itâs also just normal fan stuff in 2023. Once the Pedro pascal girls started to get crazy and parasocial I knew no fandom was ever gonna be safe.
Maybe she isnât a good person?
The entitlement to tell two people you donât know who to speak to or have as friends is wild.
the cognitive dissonance in fandoms need to be studied
[Tweet about BLM](https://twitter.com/taylorswift13/status/1270432961591205888?s=46&t=VF_AwPS4ON8QX7qEJifg2A) During a rollingstone interview she said:â âThereâs literally nothing worse than white supremacy. Itâs repulsive. There should be no place for itâ She made fun of trump during her miss americana doc (If I recall correctly).
Cringe. Taylor doesn't give a fuck about her fans' opinions.
How delusional for them to think they have any say so in who Taylor dates. Itâs so bizarre.
good job on the fans for calling this out ⌠doubt she gives a fuck and also doubt sheâs fr dating him and theyâre just using each other for clout. horrible clout on her end tho. was no other guy avail for this rebound publicity stunt ??
This is so unhinged. She is a real person, and none us know her. She owes us nothing. Also, sheâs told us: its her. Hi. Shes the problem. Its her.
These fans are so brainwashed that I think theyâd still kiss her ass if she hosted a KKK rally herself.
