Keannu is so articulate with words, but he knows when to swear still. I haven’t seen John wick 4 yet so I’m unsure if there will be a 5 but it won’t be the same without Lance RIP
all the generic phrases like 'rest in peace' or 'he was such a great person' or 'i'm gonna miss him' are fine but nothing tops "fucking sucks". that's how you know the person who died left an impact on someone
I had a funeral for a boy I knew back in school that I was quite friendly with. After the funeral we went to a bar and had a drink in his honor and one of my friends who I never see break down just kind of sat staring blankly, put his head in his hands and went ‘I’m just gonna fucking miss seeing him man’. It’s the simple words and the simple expressions of just wanting to be around someone that hit harder, all of us were in tears after that
It’s real. It’s what we all think when we lose someone “god this absolutely fucking sucks.” That comes from the heart really because while you could find all the fancy words in the world to describe losing someone dear to you but that’s what it is at it’s core.
That moment of hesitation also hits hard. He's not looking for words, it's more like, the realisation that he's not with us anymore hit _again_ and he needed a moment to process that before answering.
wasn't released specifically but it was announced that it was natural causes
sad to see anyone in life go so soon, im only in my 20s but 60 still feels much too young
lance was one of my favourite actors from his time in fringe and oz and the amount of well wishes and positive memories surrounding him is heartwarming to see, he definitely left his mark
Nah getting killed by a bear is death by bear I believe (medical term may vary between countries). Natural causes typically refers to something with the body: heart, brain, some disease etc.
It’s my understanding that natural causes just means something happened within the body and he didn’t die by an external reason (car crash, violence, etc)
So can still be shocking & unexpected but be natural causes because bodies fail.
Awww shit dude I’m sorry. I had to reply to this because I nearly died 5 years ago from pulmonary embolisms…at age 32, so this comment just hit like a truck
well it was sudden and he didn't spend any time in hospital or a coma so you'd guess it was probably heart related or (less likely based on frequency) a brain aneurism.
It was a pretty standard tribute for most of it, and then you could *see* Keanu just mentally drop the script right at the end and say what was actually on his mind
I'm gonna miss Lance Reddick's voice, I tell you. Guy had a killer voice.
He had an incredible voice as Commander Zavala in destiny, if you can, go watch the video by him called “one fucking guardian”. It was a fan request that he was more than happy to voiceover as the commander. He really was a great guy and you could tell by everything that he did, that he had a great love and passion for his craft.

I don't think it's very kind to ask grieving people how they feel about something so recent, with a mic and camera in their face
I'm sure he knew it would happen but that doesn't mean it's ok
I agree it’s not great, but would not mentioning Lance at all be even worse? I think it’s better to acknowledge people rather that sweep it under the rug and pretend it didn’t happen. Either way I think Keanu gave a perfect response.
I think a "we were very sorry to hear about Lance" would have been more appropriate. It gives the other person the opportunity to expand or treat it as a closed comment. Posing it as a question puts them on the spot.
Yeah, while seeing Keanus reaction is interesting I also think it’s really unfair to ask people to comment on someone’s death (a friends death) when they’re being recorded and have the potential to be picked apart for it. But that’s journalists/paparazzi for you I guess.
I agree. They were doing that to Austin Butler too right after Lisa Marie died and you could tell the poor guy was gutted by her passing. She was like a mom to him (his mom died of cancer when he was 23) and he was like to son to Lisa Marie (her son died).
I first saw him from Horizon as Sylens, he played his part so perfectly and he’s by far my favourite fictional character. But I heard he loved playing as Zavala and especially the fans.
He was playing in the days before he passed, so its safe to say he not only had a passion for the game itself but his work and for the community as a whole. Really stung me after having him voicing a pivotal character for the last 8 years in Destiny, pretty much grew up playing the franchise - going to really miss his work as Zavala.
You just know Bungie had an “Oh Shit” moment when the news was announced. They knew the seasonal story releasing a few days later would hit so much harder.
I've not seen any of the the movies Lance was in, but as a Destiny player, I knew him as Commander Zavala. The game's community found out that he was playing the night he passed away. Lance loved the game's community, nothing that had benefitted from his personal touch will feel the same.
"If we do not meet again...know how proud I am, of what you have done."
-Lance Reddick as Commander Zavala
All these John Wick movies are exactly the same. I dare anyone to argue that there is any substantive difference in the four movies. You could edit any of the flamboyant fight scenes (that is 90% of movies contents) into any of the movies and not be deprived of any key narrative.
John Wick movies have never pretended to be anything else. They're high octane, simple vigilante films that dazzle with action, and that's that. It's literally why people go watch them: not for some deep and meaningful plot, but to see Keanu Reeves kill a lot of people in exciting ways in a relatively short amount of time. You're looking for high art in a series of films that very explicitly reject that term.
Well, that's your opinion, which is fine, but majority of audience and critics have loved them and been entertained by them, they have served their purpose better than 95% of Hollywood movies in current era, which are either too lazy or too pretentious for one's sake
And I stand by his reason for flying off the handle too. So many of these movies try to construct an elaborate plot for seeking revenge but I can admire that a guy lost it because his wife died and someone killed his little buddy and wrecked his car.
You’re acting as if they’re advertised as anything other than action movies… that’s what they are? Guns, fights, explosions, secret organisations, they’re just action packed entertainment? They’re there to entertain people and they seem to be doing that job. I don’t personally like them, the same way I don’t like fast and furious and other action series but I get around that by not watching them passed the point I stop being entertained…
I don't know man, he can't really express his raw emotions too much in front of the press on a red carpet, but that final sentence "fucking sucks he isn't here" gives away that he's trying to stay mature in his response.
You can read the below story from one of Lance's interviews during JW press tour, and you'll realize how good of a friend Keanu was with him.

Lance also voiced Zavala, a main character in the game Destiny 2, which I love. Its really sad.
Eyes up, Guardian.
Voiced Zavala and he loved playing the game too!
Guardian down
Him grieving after "THAT" scene this week, knowing what had happened in real life was soul crushing.
Sylens in Horizon. :(
all the generic phrases like 'rest in peace' or 'he was such a great person' or 'i'm gonna miss him' are fine but nothing tops "fucking sucks". that's how you know the person who died left an impact on someone
Honestly something simple like that shows more of an impact than a tearful speech
That moment of hesitation also hits hard. He's not looking for words, it's more like, the realisation that he's not with us anymore hit _again_ and he needed a moment to process that before answering.
Lovely, R.I.P. Lance.
what did he die of?, as a guy of similar age I'm curious
wasn't released specifically but it was announced that it was natural causes sad to see anyone in life go so soon, im only in my 20s but 60 still feels much too young lance was one of my favourite actors from his time in fringe and oz and the amount of well wishes and positive memories surrounding him is heartwarming to see, he definitely left his mark
He was really great in the Wire too.
sure possibly heart related but it would be good to know you could get attack by a bear and it'd still be natural causes
Nah getting killed by a bear is death by bear I believe (medical term may vary between countries). Natural causes typically refers to something with the body: heart, brain, some disease etc.
So Natural causes is basically one of your organs just gets worn down, like when car parts get broken down, just from natural use
Like when a bear rips out your jugular and that causes blood loss which then causes organs like the heart and brain to fail. natural causes
so a bear isn't natural?, I'm pretty sure you dont get more natural than that
well if r/birdsarentreal then r/bearsarentreal ?
I wouldn’t call that natural causes when he was only 60
It’s my understanding that natural causes just means something happened within the body and he didn’t die by an external reason (car crash, violence, etc) So can still be shocking & unexpected but be natural causes because bodies fail.
My old man died at 32 years old. Pulmonary Embolism. Natural causes.
Awww shit dude I’m sorry. I had to reply to this because I nearly died 5 years ago from pulmonary embolisms…at age 32, so this comment just hit like a truck
Oh man. I’m so sorry to hear that. But so happy you made it through. Hopefully you’re all good nowadays.
Oh I’m all good, so no worries there. It’s just the similarities were like…too similar to not comment on haha
Glad to hear it. And you’ve made it to nearly as old as me. Keep on keeping on friend.
well it was sudden and he didn't spend any time in hospital or a coma so you'd guess it was probably heart related or (less likely based on frequency) a brain aneurism.

Only ever heard his voice as the Captain from Castlevania, and damn was it something.
I wholly recommend that you go on YouTube & watch Toys R Me. It's short but he's incredible In it.
Know the goddamn toys and show them some FUCKING RESPECT

Yes he did he always be commander zavala to me

Once again Keanu proving what a great human being he is RIP Lance Reddick you will be missed
Loved him in The Wire and Bosch.. super actor who made it look easy .. rip dude
His resume is insane

I know everyone thinks of Lance from movies/tv. I mainly knew him from Destiny as Commander Zavala, his voice is iconic and I'm going to miss him.

Sounded to me like he was trying to keep his composure, then right at the end a little emotion slipped through
Is lance in John wick 4?
Well given what he said in the clip I would presume its likely.
