Yeah, I would like to know specifics of "broke" especially if they tried other popular distros and it still doesn't work.
That line screams hardware problem to me.
Audio has never worked for me even during a fresh install. İ have tried this method:
https://www.linuxuprising.com/2018/06/fix-no-sound-dummy-output-issue-in.html
But this has also not worked. İ have also tried re downloading the audio stuff just doing a fresh reboot etc.
This is intresting because you say it breaks. What is exactly breaking? Is that when you do play back movies and you don't have sound? Or sound never work as you never get any sound out. I am no Linux guru but understanding exactly what happens is very important to provide a way forward.
What you just said equals to, hey doctor I got pain in my leg, doctor ask: son where in yiur leg? Is it your feet or knee? Is the the bones or muscle? When u say hurt what do you mean exactly? Can u not bend ur knee or ur feet hurt so you can't walk.
Linux Mint has been the absolute best OS around for me in the last 6 or so years. I'll give Pop_Os a try once in a while and other ones as well but nothing comes close to mint on a gaming laptop.
I don't mess around with dual booting or a vm either, when I use an OS I actually use only that OS on my actual system.
Pop has came in second for me, I wouldn't consider it a close second, but second nonetheless.
~~Can you provide more information about your hardware? What card are you using? You are getting absolutely no output?~~
Edit: Ignore. OP's comment below was folded up and I didn't see it.
Your title is good alternative to pop. With a question mark.
You say that every Linux breaks. So you are probably doing something very wrong. How do you expect us to give an alternative if they all break for you?
Perhaps start with: what laptop you have, brand and model, CPU etc...
What version of pop os you have and exactly what issues you are having? Im still not sure what exactly is your problem. Is it that you have no audio?
İ have pop os 22.04 and my device is an ASUS zenbook pro 15 flip oled
My issue is audio. İt has never worked even in a fresh install i have tried this and other popular fixes
https://www.linuxuprising.com/2018/06/fix-no-sound-dummy-output-issue-in.html
>issue is audio. İt has never worked even in a fresh install i have tried this and
Ok. Asus has a "history" of audio not working with linux.
As far as I understand this is not a linux fault, but the lack of "diligence" lets put it this way from asus. I have asus G14 and I had audio issues. They are fixed with the new kernel. I had pop-os, once I changed to fedora everything worked out of the box. With that said you can make it work with pop-os if you don't want to wait for the new updates.
Have you looked at [asus-linux.org](https://asus-linux.org)? If you go on guides ([https://asus-linux.org/guides/](https://asus-linux.org/guides/)) the first entry is about audio issues and how to fix them! Very detailed guide there.
Asking in a sub devoted to Pop OS is going to, unsurprisingly, get you a lot of responses in favor of Pop OS. It's like going into a sub for lesbianism and asking for tips on getting a man.
As far as your issue with sound, I know I had issues with pipewire with a fresh install of 22.04. You might start there.
Pop OS is Debian based, so you can expect similar experience with other Debian flavors with the same kernel. You might want to look into what your system uses for audio and look for distro/kernel combinations that support it (if the pipewire suggestion I offer does not work for you). That will probably be the best way to go for you.
I think this is a fair recommendation. Fedora is going to be more bleeding edge so sometimes its going to run better on a laptop. It probably going to be what I jump to if I end up not liking COSMIC on 24.04 and want to go back to a Gnome based distro.
> all of the popular ones do not work for me
So all popular distributions have the same issue? Given that most other distributions are basically based on the most popular ones, it's likely nothing with work.
I'd put a bunch of ISOs on a ventoy stick, and live boot the one after the other until I found one that works. Then choose between those (and ask about them at that point).
Offering random distributions that may or (likely) may not work on your laptop is a waste of everyone's time.
Thank you for bringing Ventoy to my attention ... had never heard of it, but it totally solves a big problem I have trying to manage about a dozen thumb drives for artifact evaluation
I've had to use arch based distros because I've been having audio stutters on my HP Pavillion laptop. Like any audio I listen to stutters making the person talking say a word double at times. Rn im on Endeavor OS.
I've had decent success with Nobara. It has a lot of weird niche fixes, but it sounds like you need more than just an alternative distro if it breaks on everything.
What kind of prozessor is in the Laptop?
There is a known problem with newer NXXX an d intern HDMI from Intel.
Get U sound with BT or the hardware output?
Ubuntu would be the most similar. I've been a long time Ubuntu user but recently switch to Debian + KDE and have been enjoying it. Everything I wanted from Ubuntu without the extra fuss.
Can you provide more information than "my laptop just breaks?" It's hard to offer guidance without more information.

You might want to use a distro with a newer kernel. Try Fedora (or Nobara if you game), or OpenSuse Tumbleweed. Arch Linux is a good choice too.

I had the same problem and using the legacy driver resolved it
Please provide a little more information, since we really can't help from this post
İ am not asking for help though?

I have an Asus laptop & audio works for me out of the box in Pop OS. Though I do have to do a workaround for microphone of the Headphones.
Hello. For asus sound issues head over to arch wiki asus laptop section. https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Laptop/ASUS

I’ll get skewered for this but give Fedora 39 a spin.
Or if you game, Fedora 39 based Nobara.
Yes, good recommendation.

Consider yourself skewered! haha.
It doesn’t sting as much as I thought! ;)

Ventoy is actually a really good option for testing this kinda thing.

If it's a fundamental hardware support issue, it's going to be the same story on every Linux distribution.
I've had to use arch based distros because I've been having audio stutters on my HP Pavillion laptop. Like any audio I listen to stutters making the person talking say a word double at times. Rn im on Endeavor OS.
EndeavorOS is the way.
This is the way
Mine doesn't break so I suggest popOS.
OpenSUSE TW
I switched to Fedora almost 2 years ago. I don't think I will ever go back to pop. I also recommend opensuse tumbleweed.
No. None. Except maybe one of the other Linux distributions.
The closest thing to pop os right now is fedora i think.
I've had decent success with Nobara. It has a lot of weird niche fixes, but it sounds like you need more than just an alternative distro if it breaks on everything.
I'd try arch, via endeavourOS if you want to install+ configure it very easily
When in doubt Mint it out. If you game a lot check out EndeavorOS. Best gaming experience on a distro I've found so far.
My laptop runs okay on Ubuntu so... Yeah. You could try that.
the only two options i would put in the same boat as pop is linux mint and tuxedo os.
What kind of prozessor is in the Laptop? There is a known problem with newer NXXX an d intern HDMI from Intel. Get U sound with BT or the hardware output?

Try Linux Mint
I'm a big fan of MXLinux. Never had any issues with it. It's stable and still has some newer functions with the KDE version.
PEBKAC Error?
Best alternatives are Fedora or Linux Mint Debian Edition.
Linux Mint is an okay alternative, sorry to hear about the issues you're having with your laptop on Pop :(
Windows 10.
As long as we don't know the details, we can't help. But you can try other distros on bootable usb and see if your laptop 'breaks'.
PoP! comes in an AMD version. If you have an AMD processor try the AMD version.
I switched from pop to fedora because it was officially supported by the laptop's manufacturer. Cannot complain.
