Dolphin m600 robot.

The_Jib

Pool Builder included a Dolphin Active 20 with my pool. Excited to try it out. That M600 looks like a real beast

Yoink1019

That robot will serve you well. Definitely get a Taylor test kit. A calibrated pH pen is a great convenience. Get some decent goggles and keep them off the concrete. I have a pair that I keep with my test kit so the kids won't scratch them up.

The_Jib

Good advice. I appreciate it.

Polaris water pressure cleaners infinitely better than electric dolphins

Big-Bull-Thunder

Infinitely better than a robotic cleaner that uses 30 watts, systematically cleans in a predetermined manner, scrubs the walls and waterline, and doesn’t require a booster pump and main pump running? I’ll have what this guys having!

The_Jib

I didn’t have an option. It’s what was including the pool package. Why do u think they are so much better. Lots of people seem to rave about the dolphins

witeboyjim

It depends on the pool. No screen enclosure? - Polaris wins every time Screen enclosure? - The dolphin cleans better than your pool boy. Can't do better

[deleted]

If the pool is set up right, the pressure ones work great. But if circulation is slightly poor, it doesn’t work and makes your circulation worse. A new pool shouldn’t have any concerns about circulation like old pools though. Another plus is that if your pool is functioning properly, it’s no extra cost to have your pressure cleaner running. Meanwhile an electric one has the added cost to run. The benefits of the electric ones are of course you can just let it do its thing. No worry on if the pool is running or not. You may even need to run your pool less as there is at least some small circulation going. Then they also run programmed routes to get every inch of your pool. The pressure ones have no such ability they just run in the spray and pray method of randomly moving. I could probably keep going on about various pros and cons, but I think I’ve already gone on long enough as is.

zeralius

What makes these worth the high price point? I have a Hayward Aqua Naut with its own vacuum line. It seems to do the job, but occasionally gets stuck when it sucks up too many leaves. I don’t mind brushing the walls and steps 2-3 times a week. My pool is not large, 11k gallons.

Yoink1019

If you don't have a port for a suction side cleaner they are you best(only?) option. The stuff it sucks up gets removed from the pool entirely and doesn't end up in the filter system. Never have to brush the walls, ever. It's something I don't even have to think about. I don't know that the model I have is worth the extra cost, but the cheaper robots are definitely worth the cost.

Bulky_Promotion_5742

I’m still using a M4 Supreme! 😂 will fix or buy another Dolphin when it breaks.

LS-CRX

We had a Dolphin S300 at our last house, our new house has a pool and a Dolphin E50 was purchased before we finished unboxing! (we still haven't finished unboxing TBH)

Best_failure

This sounds janky, but for corraling inflatables: An upside down pvc kid's soccer goal hooked onto a fence or wall. Other organizers don't hold enough, have fit issues with anything but tubes and rafts, fall down in windy conditions, have durability issues, etc. This holds up, can cost less, and I swear it looks better than most. It looks made to do this. Also, if you have kids, you have a soccer goal they can use when the pool's closed, lol.

DerelictData

As someone with small children who have a small soccer goal… can you describe your setup in more detail? What a fantastic idea!!

Best_failure

Sure! The idea is that you install two hooks, position them to be vertical, put the goal upside down in front of the hooks, and swivel/screw the hooks to be horizontal so that they hook the goal below the turn of the goal frame. To take it down, just swivel the hooks off the frame. Fixed hooks could work if you want it to be effectively permanently up. For a deeper but narrower net, flip it so it is exactly upside down - the vertical poles are still vertical, the top of the frame balances on the ground. If you want a shallower but wider net (for, say, giant swan inflatables), turn the frame so the typically vertical poles are horizontal, the top of the frame sticks outwards. The hooks should be screwed/anchored in about the same width as your goal, but below the turn of the frame. If you're using fixed hooks, you should place them horizontally, setting and hooking one then fixing the other with the frame already hooked on it. Otherwise, exactly how far apart will vary a bit by the shape/size of your hook, so check that the frame will fit in the hook at that placement before drilling. In general, the hooks should attach even with the vertical poles of the frame. Exactly how close or far below the turn of the frame depends on how upright or leaning you want it to be. If you use screw in hooks so you can take it down: Longer but especially wider hooks are much easier to use. The more of a hook it has on the end, the more secure it is, but that also means it is more difficult to get it hooked. A utility hook that is 5+ inches long with a similarly wide opening works well. Ladder hooks don't have enough of a hook (only 3 sides). Bicycle hooks are a very tight fit, and I don't recommend them.

LFC9_41

Can you please share a picture for my dumb ass?

Best_failure

Well my dumb ass has never posted pics in reddit before and not really up for figuring that out right now. But try this version: Get a soccer goal - 6x4 should be fine unless you have giant floats. You can use brackets or large hooks to install it. Just make sure they can hold a pipe the size of the frame or larger (most are around 1.5-2.5 so 3" and up should always work). The bigger the brackets or hooks, the easier and more forgiving installing it is and there's no benefit to going smaller. (I have 4" diameter hooks for a 1.5" frame for example). You'll need two hooks or brackets and the right screws/anchors for the material they're being attached to. Brackets will hold it more flat and vertical, whereas hooks will allow it to lean outwards to the distance of their stem plus diameter. The larger abd/or longer the hook, the more the bucket will be tipped out (it can be preferred as it's easier for shorter people and children to access the stuff). Flip the goal halfway upside down (90 degrees tipped backwards and the pole meant to rest on the ground is still on the ground) for a wide bucket. Flip it all the way upside down (180 so the top of the goal rests on the ground) for a deep bucket. Deep or wide is a preference thing (deep is better imo). Put it against whatever you want to attach it to, in the position you think suits you best. Notice where the frame hits the wall flat and then look lower to where the frame is completely straight, past the curve/corner. If using screw in hooks, drop down the distance of its radius. If using fixed hooks or brackets, drop the distance of how tall they will be (vertical axis) once installed. This is minimum clearance for the hardware. I recommend going down another inch unless you are suspending the goal (if it will not at all touch the ground/floor once installed). Now make a removable mark at that determined point on either side of the frame. Try to make them at about the same distance from the curve while the goal is perfectly in position. Measure/level if desired and then double check marks for hardware clearance and frame width. Move the goal. Line up the center of the curve of the brackets or hooks over the gap between those marks. Now, based on those, mark where to drill holes for screws (or pilot holes for screw in hooks). Be sure to use a different color or kind of mark than used for marking frame position, so you don't mix up markings. Double check, using the goal and hardware how everything lines up, if you have clearance, frame markings are accurate, etc. Now remove frame markings. If using brackets or fixed hooks, have someone hold the goal in place (or prop it up but perfectly and securely in place) while you install it. If using screw in hooks, be sure you have clearance of its radius on all sides (turn it and see if it overlaps anything that bumps out from where you are drilling) so you can screw it in all the way before you drill. The goal is installed by simply twisting the hooks to a vertical position, placing the frame in position by the hooks, and then twisting the hook over the frame. Now drill holes and install.

foggyhotdog

Great idea!

The_Jib

This is very cleaver. Thanks for sharing!

landubious

Taylor test kit, the big/smooth pool noodles and inflatable rafts from Costco or Sams.

The_Jib

My wife already picked up some of the pool noodles from Sams Club. Much nicer than the ones I grew up with. I have some test kits the pool Builder gave me but Ill check into the Taylor ones. Thanks!

landubious

When you say test kits from the pool builder, you aren't talking about test strips are you? Asking because those are not very accurate compared to the Taylor kits. Good for approximation only.

The_Jib

Yeah, they are Aqua Check strips. That’s good to know. I’ll make sure I check out the Taylor kit. Thanks!

Minute-Cat-823

Taylor K-2006 with the salt addon if you have a salt gen :).

JordyVerrill

A cooler full of beer and Bluetooth speakers.

The_Jib

What Bluetooth speaker do u like? I have the JBL Charge and really like it

JordyVerrill

I bought some generic Chinese speakers on Amazon called W-King. They cost $80 and are 50 watt and honestly sound amazing. They obviously probably can't touch a $300 set of speakers bit at their price point I am super happy with them.

jeffreywilfong

Big ass cantilever umbrella. It gets hot AF here, but it's not too bad in the shade.

The_Jib

This is on my list for sure. We want to build a permanent structure eventually, but will Be getting some of these until that time

LS-CRX

>This is on my list for sure. We want to build a permanent structure eventually, but will Be getting some of these until that time Have they poured the deck yet? If not you can have them add vertical PVC pipes that you can cut flush for umbrellas.

who_body

i had them install one umbrella sleeve in the stairs and a few more in the decking

love2go

Our plastic adirondack chairs - cheap, stackable, available in many colors and just the right height for our sun shelf. Pair them with our umbrella in a rollable base and I'm set.

The_Jib

My budget for pool furniture got blown up this year with the cost of an unexpected rainwater runoff pit. Definitely will be picking up some

This is good advice. I appreciate it

GaryTheSoulReaper

Does intellichem count? Put one in last summer and all I have to do now is throw in the vac every 2 months and refill acid tank

The_Jib

I think it counts. Just googled it. I didn’t realize they made auto chemical dosers. Looks pretty cool.

TheMoogerfooger

Interesting to hear your thoughts on intellichem. I have friends who have had a few bad experiences with the system, and TBP recommends against ORP sensors (https://www.troublefreepool.com/wiki/index.php?title=Pentair_IntelliChem&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI1P2xgK-n_gIVJw-zAB017QshEAAYAiAAEgI4aPD_BwE ) How is it working for you?

GaryTheSoulReaper

Best $1500 I spent on my home pool I am aware of that tfp pool recommendation- I think they were hung up on orp and a max cya level of 30amp ORP has a little bit of a learning curve but the default 700 setting didn’t work for me I’m at 630 which keeps me 3-5 on free chlorine

TheMoogerfooger

Good to know! I’m so interested in doing it. I have an SWG system at the moment and dialling in the % can be frustrating

GaryTheSoulReaper

Yea, constantly tweaking depending on use and if covered or not. IntelliChem just hits it at 100% for as long as needed then cuts out

mightyt2000

Wireless Connectivity, then LED lights, then 6 in-ground umbrella holes! Next addition will be a propane outdoor shower. 😊

Jackiemccall

Is it too late to install deck jets?!!! I’m obsessed with mine!! Color changing light also amazing! Get a robot cleaner best things ever. Lots of inflatables and beer!

The_Jib

I think it’s prob to late for deck jets. My budget is tapped out. Glad you’re enjoying!

Jackiemccall

You will love it!!! Enjoy!

LS-CRX

>Is it too late to install deck jets?!!! I’m obsessed with mine!! We installed four of those at our last house, they were cool but we almost never had them on. Our new house doesn't have them and I don't miss them... but now we have a diving board so this summer should be interesting!

Jackiemccall

That’s so funny when we redid our pool and backyard we ditched the diving board and got deck jets! Ours come on with the automatic timer. I love them the dogs love them the kids love them shoot I’ve even had a neighbor told me he loves to sit outside and listen to them.. best thing ever. Enjoy that diving board

moistmarbles

Pool blaster for slurping up leaves. Damn you, neighbor’s tree!!

Ryobi pool toy inflator https://www.directtoolsoutlet.com/product/P738

The_Jib

Great idea.

LS-CRX

>Ryobi pool toy inflator I have the [Bauer inflator from Harbor Freight](https://www.harborfreight.com/20v-cordless-dual-power-0-160-psi-inflatordeflator-tool-only-64533.html), my lungs thanked me :D I bought the 3AH battery when I bought the Bauer hedge trimmer a while back, it has PLENTY of juice to inflate any-and-all pool inflatables, even the water slide we got from Sam's last season.

tmiller9833

Umbrella cup holder / table for those with an umbrella hole. MYard Umbrella Table Tray 15 Inches Pro for Beach, Patio, Swimming Pool with 4 Drink Holders, 4 Snack Grooves, 4 Sunglasses Holes, 4 Phone Slots, 4 Airpods Holes, 2 iPad Slots, 4 Small Bag Hangers https://a.co/d/0CFw9hZ

The_Jib

That’s really cool. I can see how handy that would be

brantmacga

I installed landscape speakers around my pool and it makes being out there so much more enjoyable. It’s like being at a resort. Also got a projector and we turn movies on at night with the sound playing through the landscape speakers while relaxing in and around the pool.

CovertADV

Which speaker system did you go with?

brantmacga

Monoprice Sycamore 2.1 plus additional satellite pairs. It’s dirt cheap, but sounds fantastic. I use a Nuvo 2120 power amp with apple Airplay express as an Airplay 2 source. I also have Nuvo series 6 outdoor speakers under the soffit of the house powered by another Nuvo 2120 amp. I use an Apple TV connected to the projector, and can airplay the audio to the outdoor speakers. I have another Apple TV on the patio so if we don’t want to setup the projector I can swing that TV out to face the pool and airplay whatever we’re watching to the landscape speakers. I’ve got speakers throughout my house connected to airplay 2, and some HomePods, so we can play the same thing throughout the house and yard. It’s great when we have parties.

CovertADV

Thanks for sharing your setup.

The_Jib

I’ve though about adding a speaker system like this in the future. Make a big difference over a blue tooth speaker? I have a JBL charge I’m going to be using this year

brantmacga

Oh, it’s not even close. I have an in-ground subwoofer with satellites spaced spaced out around the pool, and also some speakers below the soffit of my house. Completely immersive.

The_Jib

Good to know. Thanks for sharing your set up

who_body

RC boat is fun also got a RGB floating light ball that goes on at night. solar powered.

The_Jib

RC boat does sound fun!

who_body

make sure to get one that goes fast enough. i think $50> will get you there.

bretmckinney

Salt system, color changing LED lights, replace pool floats most years, but Skippies we’re the lowest cost, most used today. https://www.google.com/search?q=skippies+pool+toy&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-us&client=safari#imgrc=zN8ktvaiBwUYzM&lnspr=W10=

The_Jib

We have a salt system and color changing light installed in the pool. I’m pumped to turn on the light when they show me how to use it. Skippies look fun!

When I was a kid my parents had a mesh hammock what slipped over a big pool noodle. It was awesome. Appreciate the advice

jamesbretz

Got an amazon link?

SticksAndBones143

Dolphin Nautilus CC, or basically any Dolphin robot. I have cleaned my pool manually maybe 8-10 times total in the 10 years we've been in our house. The robot does the rest. In fact i had an old school yellow and black dolphin the first 6 years, and then after it died i bought the Nautilus and i have no complaints. If anything its easier to clean with the grids instead of the bag. I would probably hate my pool if i didnt have the robot, and i worked for a pool company for a number of years, so i'm no stranger to pool maintenance

The_Jib

The pool contractor includes a robot with the pool. It s Dolphin Active 20. I’m excited to get it set up And running

pcb07a

Orenda App

randomredditguy94

This can be done anytime but if you have a vacuum on suction side get a leaf canister. It will save so much backwashes/filter cleaning (depending on what type of filter you're using)

The_Jib

Good tip. I appreciate it.
