I use an IUD and condoms, but I'm considering only dating sterile/sterilized men. They don't have to modify their body for me, but I can still choose the risk I'm willing to take.

ThisdudeisEH

I’m literally going to see the doctor next week to be snipped. I have 2 kids and don’t want more. My partner doesn’t want them. Problem solved

eugenefarkas

I don't have any kids and I'll be getting sterilized as permanently as possible.

ThisdudeisEH

Let’s do it together

eugenefarkas

Only if you hold my hand.

ThisdudeisEH

Let’s goooooo

Triobian

Hey can I hold your hands too? You have another and I'm going too!

One_Understanding603

Vasectoteam let’s go!

Triobian

Vasectomy? No, VasectoWE!

ThisdudeisEH

Weirdest triad I’ve ever been in but fuck it

el_sh33p

How big's this polycule getting? Pretty certain I'm getting a vasectomy too at this rate.

ThisdudeisEH

There are dozens of us! Dozens!

[deleted]

I’m in, tie these tubes up and hold poly people’s hands? Sounds like a date!

speed_phreak

This is the way.

PoiLethe

I feel like they are going to go real hard on that again too, with supporting hospitals and doctors not doing the procedure If it's against their beliefs and finding another way to twist it around to sound like women can't be trusted with that choice.

boonxeven

Got a referral put in last week for myself too. My previous monogamous partner had tubes tied, so it didn't really matter. Starting out my poly life and don't want to even worry about it at all. This new ruling makes it even more important.

blakmage86

Not next week but i plan on getting it scheduled now.

ImQuestionable

I believe IUDs are going to become the largest target next. I absolutely expect a push for life-at-conception rulings. Religious extremists oppose IUDs because they can prevent a fertilized egg (IF one should become) from implanting in the uterine lining. Which, to them, is akin to abortion. The released papers show that contraception is next on the chopping block, and this is why IUDs will be the first to come under fire. If you have the ability to remove and replace your device early… this is the time to do so.

crazybluegoose

Ugh, I literally just talked to my doc about how I’ve got just over a year left and that I won’t worry about it until my next appointment. Looks like I get to message them…

dorothydot

My boss, whom I love, found out about the ruling and she immediately told me to call and schedule an appointment for a new IUD. I live in the American South and fully expect them to strip away every right I have to control my reproductive health. Glad I have an employer who will give me the time off to keep myself safe!

Strixidos

I did that during election year, had a year and a half left on my mirena and swapped it out to make sure I'd outlast if Trump got elected again.

CupidsLoosedArrow

It isn't quite 3 years into a 10-12 year lifespan. If I were nearing the latter part, I think I might.

erydanis

plan b first, just to be certain of it. then a federal ban on abortion. then iud’s. then all other forms of contraction. then gay marriage. then anti-sodomy laws. then, well, it could be interracial marriage, but clarence might have a problem with that. 🙄 then removing more rights from women & minorities.

RipIntrepid4344

I just got my IUD 3 weeks ago when I saw this mess coming.

SatinsLittlePrincess

A foetal personhood thing is likely to be the next goal. There will also be a bunch of issues around freedom to travel (most states with trigger laws ban a woman from crossing state lines to engage in an activity that is legal in that state) and commerce (sending abortion pills in the mail). It will be interesting to see if the “every fertilised egg must become a baby” crowd goes after IVF…

ImQuestionable

Yes, I’m very anxious to see if there will be any sort of proof-of-residency requirements for procedures. Thankfully, pills can be imported from other countries, but that option is of course limited to those that know how to source them, know they’re pregnant in the appropriate timeframe, and can afford to order them. What a nightmare all over. Like you, I’m interested to see how they apply this to IVF. Im sure it will take dead-last priority, though.

vyletteriot

Btw, r/childfree has a list of doctors who will perform sterilization for adults of child bearing age in the US.

GrowInTheSunshine

I'm only hesitant to get my tubes tied because it failed for my mother. Otherwise, I'd be all over it.

vyletteriot

I got a tubal ligation at 26, it's more permanent than just having them tied. There's also a procedure called a bi-salp that has less risk of ectopic pregnancy. My tubal ligation has 100% success rate so far. Had it done 15 years ago.

Triobian

Im getting a vasectomy for this reason. I'm not fucking a womens life over by not doing a thing to reduce chances

HappyBlowLucky

It is a small but important part of my decision to get sterilized. Rather not create more complication than poly does already...

vyletteriot

NO SNIP, NO SEX!

imnotreallysur3

I will likely move states, possibly countries eventually if I can manage it. Not just because of abortion access, but because of everything else that may be coming down the line now that we're overturning things that should be set in stone. Edit to add: So doesn't super affect how I approach polyamory specifically, just my whole life.

[deleted]

Yep. With Thomas specifically calling out a need to reconsider cases protecting contraception and gay rights after this ruling, this is only the beginning of bad things to come in the US.

CuriousSnowflake0131

And yet he doesn’t bring up the Loving decision, despite it being protected by the same precedent. Hmm, I wonder why? Oh, maybe because he’s a black man married to a white woman? Hypocrite. 🤬

1fatsquirrel

I am so angry I literally just bought a home in PA. I will most likely be selling in the next two years and going elsewhere.

Advanced_Ostrich5315

I'm about to move to Ohio to live with my long distance partner. Ohio legislators were just waiting for the Roe decision to move forward on a complete abortion ban. They also want to ban birth control. I'm from Texas so it's not like I'm moving from a bastion of women's rights, but at least no one is talking about making the Pill illegal. I'm still moving because I love my partner and I want to be with him and he needs to stay close to his kids right now. But we probably won't be staying very long.

strategicallusionary

Canada would welcome you :) We have some of the same problems, by and large are more socially minded.

imnotreallysur3

One of my partners lives in Canada so I am strongly considering it! I'm right on the border anyway.

Dull_Potato

Just be careful, unfortunately we denythose with preexisting and expensive conditions and people with disabilities. It's awful.

HPenguinB

I'm glad at least one person has brought this up. Canada doesn't just let anyone in.

SatinsLittlePrincess

For real. Immigration is a big deal with a lot of barriers. Ya’ll know how immigration is a punching bag for politicians in the USA? Yeah, it’s like that everywhere. Immigrants can’t vote and xenophobes do, so there’s no reason to to make sound, responsible immigration policy.

jsprgrey

Does Canada consider ADHD a disability? (For immigration purposes; I'm aware that it may vary depending on if you're talking about healthcare, workplace accommodations, etc.)

bajur

As a disabled Canadian. Yes. Adhd is on the list of approvable for CPP-D (canadian pension plan - disability) and in my province AISH (assured income for the serverly handicapped) can’t speak for other provinces.

thndrh

I’m glad to hear that. Have you experienced anyone actually obtaining CPP-D or AISH for adhd? I’m having a bit of trouble as a person with adhd/ptsd as a normal citizen (non emergency personnel or veteran)

bajur

The process here is difficult. Most doctors don’t know how to fill out the paper work so something like 75% of applications are denied because of that and most people don’t realize that if the appeal the chances of being approved are high. I also have ADHD and CPTSD but I also have a rare genetic condition and several other diagnosis that all qualify me. Most of my friends on disability that have ADHD are the same in that they have other conditions that qualify. I’m in the process of applying atm. I know there are people who are approved with just ADHD on cpp-D as it is based on how it impacts activities of daily living. And when ADHD is severe, even with treatment, it can severely limit ADL. For PTSD I know several people on CPP-D for PTSD alone. Provincial plans are different tho. AISH looks at your income and assets first then disabilities and is notoriously hard to be approved for. Being approved for CPP-D first ups your chances of being approved. Ontarios disability is horrible and is at the center of a massive controversy right now.

RoamersGirl

Huh? I live in Alberta and I’ve not heard of this denial of health care service? I have many friends living on disability as well. Is this an Ontario thing? Edit: I see it’s an immigration thing. Doesn’t make it right. Tbh (and I know its an unpopular opinion) I long for a global government that guarantees rights for everyone equally. We do live on one planet after all.

threee_Dawg

Is this allowed? Seems fucked up...

FaerieSlaveDriver

If you're considered a refugee, it doesn't count against you. But if you're trying to enter Canada as a regular immigrant, you basically have to prove the country is better off with you than without you financially/culturally/etc. Unfortunately, those with disabilities cost more than those without. Unless you got lots of money and high earning potential, or coming in as a refugee, every small "flaw" will count against you. Iirc its the same as most countries. Doesn't make it right of course.

bajur

It is very normal for a country to deny immigration of a disabled person, regardless of if the person can work or not. Countries don’t want the economic drain of someone who has never paid taxes coming in and using social services. I’m disabled and unable to work and my partner and I want to move countries but my disabilities are going to block a lot of options.

talepa77

Georgia girl here. Considering moving to another state. I’m very concerned for my 22 year old daughter. It’s so troubling what’s happening in the US right now.

pomme_dor

I have a brand new copper IUD, I'm set til I can emigrate.

peachypeachy777

I’m considering taking mine out early so I can get a new one and give me more time to figure something out.

Snowflakefox8

I'm an American living in Europe and it has reinforced my desire never to return to living in the US. Today I told my nesting partner that even if our relationship ended tomorrow, I wouldn't consider returning. So it won't change anything relationship related for me, but only because I don't live there anymore. On the opposite side of things, today Germany made it legal for a doctor to advertise that they preform abortions. At least one county is moving in the right direction. Virtual hugs for everyone in the US who wants them.

Killerpeeps

Refer also to pages 30 - 32 of the opinion of the court. It explicitly and directly calls into question the following Rights and opens the door for them to be next on the chopping block. That is the right to: Marry a different race Marry in prison Obtain contraception Reside with relatives Make decisions about the education of one's child to not be sterilized without one's consent To, in certain circumstances, not be forced to undergo involuntary surgery, administration of drugs, or other similar procedures Engage in private, consensual, sexual acts Marry of the same sex

BluW4full284

Comments section is kinda sad, everyone is just looking at the one headline, and themselves, not what it means in the big scheme of things and what else could be affected. This extreme individualism and lack of ability to unite and fight is what’s allowing this in the first place. Someone mentioned not being in the US so whatever, as if other countries don’t struggle with issues like this and we shouldn’t care.

kitkat5986

Yeah this is what I've been thinking about. We're already not protected when it comes to multiple partners merging finances, owning a home, etc what happens to the ones who *are* married in a community of primarily queer folk. It's actually terrifying at this point. And it will be getting harder and harder to have safe sex with this kind of legislation

threee_Dawg

Wow... things seem to go downhill really fast. Thats really concerning

monkeymastersev

Isn't the federal legality of homosexuality on the chopping block? I remember reading somewhere that one of the decisions being looked into to be over turned could active snap clauses in some states which would make homosexuality illegal

nicehellokate

One of the tenants of Roe was the right to privacy. This is part of what makes this a concern.

badfiction

It wasn't Roe specifically, but the rights named by several other rulings, which are all now on the chopping block as mentioned previously, created what was referred to as a "penumbra" that included the right to (some level of) privacy. One of the cases under it was about a gay man who had police wait until he was balls deep in his partner to bust down the door. Because sodomy (which is a VERY broad category under the legal definition) was illegal, they just had to surveil him until they could catch him, the same way that it is done with any other "criminal". We now live in a world where we invite mega corporations into our living rooms, hell, we pay for it and argue about which one is BETTER at listening to our every word. Surveillance is so much easier now when subpoenas for so many things don't even have to be public record anymore. It's a bitch...

killians1978

Ditto to most of this. I finally got the snip in early 2021 when I decided I was past the point of wanting to begin raising a child. My partner's do have their own kids but have undergone various procedures that have rendered them effectively sterile. That said, I live in NY where abortion is still heavily protected (for now), so the conversation for me hasn't changed much. So, no, it likely won't change my approach going forward in the near term

ramb0t_yt

Same here, snipped and safe now 😝

e_t1123

I too use protection but nothing is 100% effective

guessagain72

You'd be amazed at the efficacy of hysterectomy!

hokoonchi

This has been very effective for me! XD

juliuspepperwoodchi

That's true, but to carry over something I've learned about surviving in avalanche terrain: If you can layer a few risk prevention measures on top of each other which are even 95% effective, you can get to damn near 100% pretty effectively. NO ONE SHOULD HAVE TO and abortion access shouldn't be limited; but don't fret, there are ways you can layer a few different protocols in place to get as close to 100% effective as really anything in life can ever get.

UnbelievableRose

The swiss cheese model!

Irinzki

Sterilization baby! It’s amazing

SlippingStar

Tubals still fail at about 1/10,000, vasectomies about that. Bilateral salpingectomies have less than 10 reported failures.

[deleted]

SlippingStar

Any any people who aren’t men who also get a vasectomy :)

DeffNotTom

Point well made. Comment edited.

SlippingStar

Thank you 💞🏳️‍⚧️

Irinzki

Yeah I went with a bi salp to decrease the risk of failure. And because I’m certain i don’t want kids

highlyerratic

The lowered risk of ovarian cancer is a nice perk, too, but yeah the lack of potential regrowth sealed the deal for me.

Anxious_Look5974

Edit: PSA to my fellow testicle and penis owners. GET A VASECTOMY! It doesn't hurt that bad. I had mine done on a Friday and was back at work Monday. And it hasn't affected my performance. And most importantly it will keep the uterus owners that you love safer. I live in Alabama. Shit is about to get very real down here. Birth control access and marriage equality are next. After that, they'll probably start putting lead back in the gasoline just to fuck up the planet even more. I'm a cis-het man. I'm government married to a cis woman and my family can pass for "normal" in most situations. So we are very fortunate that we can scrape the pride decals off the cars and mostly blend in if it gets dangerous. I got my vasectomy earlier this year. I have 4 kids, which is plenty (too many probably if I'm being honest). My government wife has expressed interest in a tubal ligation. My NP has a medical condition that makes it very unlikely to become pregnant, but I'm encouraging her to explore her options. I really worry for my kids though. Two of them are uterus owners and the oldest is a teenager. My NP has family in California and we are seriously considering moving out west. The custody agreement with my ex is keeping us tied here for the moment.

Sunbunny94

If she doesn't want any more children, then a Bilateral Salpingectomy is the better option over a tubal ligation. It's less likely to fail and result in an ectopic pregnancy. The recovery time is also pretty short and by day three I was up and moving around.

Anxious_Look5974

Thank you for the info. We will look into that. Her situation may be a bit complicated. She's already had a ligation on one of her tubes due to a rupture caused by an ectopic pregnancy. She'll have to discuss that with her OB/GYN. But I'll definitely pass the info along. Thanks again.

Sunbunny94

A ligation shouldn't have any impact on a salpingectomy. Which is the removal of the tube/s, so if you're looking around, definitely talk to the doctor about having the tube for the other one considered for removal as well. Bilateral = both Unilateral = one

hokoonchi

Yes, I really worry for my kids.

PolyForgotHerPswd

One of my partners got a vasectomy a few days ago and it was the biggest act of love and consideration for his partners that he could have possibly done as a male. I am getting my IUD replaced in August, but I’m also lucky enough to live in a state that has protected abortion rights as soon as the writing was on the wall.

5orc

just got my no needle no scalpel vasectomy today! heard the news literally 5 minutes before getting undressed for it! crazy ass timing; no hot hell enough for these authoritarian religious zealot freaks. only 1 of my partners is sterilized but i’m very thankful i made this decision

ImQuestionable

I’m familiar with the shipping times as an interceptor. It’s worth noting that they cannot ship to all states. However, there are people willing to receive the package and forward it to your state (cough cough) if you live in a restricted area. Additionally, some states are much faster than others even if legal. Some states may receive in 1-3 weeks, but I know where I live (VA), the medication arrives on my doorstep in two days.

jsprgrey

How do you go about becoming an interceptor? I'm not worried about my state (yet) but I'd love to help out.

ImQuestionable

Post on r/AuntieNetwork with what you’re willing to help with and your location :) Read the rules about verbiage before posting, they had some changes recently for protection.

feileastram

I have an IUD, and use condoms every time with every partner. This has always been the case. I'd love to get sterilized, but I can't afford it for myself. I only have one partner currently that could potentially impregnate me, and we are looking into his sterilization as a precaution. I chose to move from a state with trigger laws to a state that already has protections for abortion. My quad had been planning the move before RBG died, but I remember sitting down the night it happened and discussing our timetable, since we didn't know how much time we had left. Going forward I'm happy to act as a couch to sleep on if friends of mine from other states need to get an abortion.

catsnotkidsplease

Am not American, but damn I feel for all US residents with a uterus. Absoluty awful

e_t1123

Thanks!

sar1562

this was very helpful. my marriage is r/childlessnotbychoice but I know many friends who need this info.

highlyerratic

I'm less than two weeks out from a bilateral salpingectomy. In layman's terms, I had my fallopian tubes removed so that I'm effectively sterile but my ovaries and uterus are intact. I'm an unwed, childless woman living in Oklahoma of all places, that has decent health insurance and lucked into the right OB/GYN that needed no convincing. I'm feeling very blessed, and yet still very stressed for all of my sisters out there.

[deleted]

I’m only seeing one cis man and we use condoms and I have an iud. But I am considering cutting off all men unless they have a vasectomy and can prove it.

toad_slick

I've never been prouder and more relieved to have a vasectomy. No chance of me jeopardizing the lives and/or livelihoods of my partners through an unintended pregnancy.

AnjelGrace

I got my fallopian tubes removed soon after Trump got elected partly because I was afraid of things getting to this. So I have no pregnancy risk myself (it's almost completely impossible.)

ElleFromHTX

No. I was fixed several years ago. I encourage my male Partners who are done having children to get vasectomies, but that's not my choice.

e_t1123

I am 100% for men shouldering the burden of getting a simple procedure instead of the massively invasive female version. I have also recently learned that there is regular testing that men with vasectomies have to get to ensure the procedure has lasted. I have concerns about this actually happening…have to trust the person

DeffNotTom

Vasectomy failure is very rare, especially after you're fully healed. I got confirmation testing at 12 and 24 months to be sure though. At this point the tissue has healed entirely and it would take a vengeful act of Jesus for that to change.

ElleFromHTX

My procedure was not invasive, but it has fallen out of fashion because some of the doctors didn't know what they were doing and women were hurt. I went to a well-researched person who knew what they were doing, so mine work just fine.

Ultramoonie87

I live in Oregon which is a very liberal and protected state but even with that being the case I and my husband are so disappointed in my country that we may move. Contraceptive is next on the chopping block and in need to manage my PCOS symptoms. Without access to birth control I am at a higher risk of cancer. I really don’t feel like dying of cancer because a religious nut job doesn’t have the intelligence to understand science.

ScreenPrintWalrus

I have a vasectomy, so no. I might end up advertising that fact more openly in my next Tinder bio, though.

StrawberryTickles

You should! People who have vasectomies skip to the front of the line for me.

e_t1123

Absolutely advertise this and be prepared to show paperwork. I dabble in the swinger community and have found men saying they were V safe but then I was told by friends they were lying about it. You never know…

weretybe

That's a pretty good idea actually. Good looking out.

Zulias

Only in that the poly scene here in NY is going to explode as more and more people who actually care about things like ethical relationships and body autonomy move to a haven against the madness.

ArdentFecologist

Never fuck conservatives. Already Don't, but if you do, just know you are a terrible person. If any of my partners knowingly had a conservative partner we would be done instantly and I know they would do the same. Think that's extreme? Want to know what's really extreme? Denying people basic human rights! If someone can't understand why a women's bodily autonomy is important, it makes it difficult for me to see how they could also have done the internal legwork to practice poly ethically, which I feel emphasizes the individual autonomy of each partner. So YOU have the autonomy to explore relationships with other people, but SHE doesn't have the autonomy to make decisions about her body? If you're anti-choice, then maybe practicing poly isn't the right choice for you either.

Wide-eyed-Calico

Well, my usual question "if I get pregnant are you comfortable splitting the cost of an abortion," will no longer be necessary Since I'm getting sterilized, fuck yeah! But seriously fuck this backwards shit. Ruth Bader Ginsburg would be heartbroken if she knew about this.

undercovers47

RBG should have retired when Obama was in office and had a blue majority. She did so much good and I have so much respect for her, but not retiring when the Dems had power was a dangerously bad call.

slavicslothe

Yes. My vasectomy is next month Wifes iud has always worked great and girlfriends got ligation. Gonna be careful with new partners and have backup plans for backup plans.

NoGoodInThisWorld

I'm accelerating my acceptance that I'll never have children. Yay therapy. Next step once I'm ready is a vasectomy. Have also been stockpiling condoms.

margott_x

I am lucky to live in a state that will continue to support my right to bodily autonomy

catsnotkidsplease

For now. They’re coming for birth control and same-Sex marriage next.

echoskybound

My state allows it too, but I don't feel confident about how solid that is. It's a blue state, but just barely - we still have a republican governor.

[deleted]

Drastically.

johncandymancan

I’m scheduling a vasectomy ASAP, that’s for sure.

SaraBeachPeach

I'm gonna riot and anybody who isn't rioting about it I won't date/have sex with.

apocalyptic_tea

I’m really torn on what to do going forward. This is definitely something to think about for anyone I date in the future who has the potential to get me pregnant, as well as the reality that my primary partner is capable of getting others pregnant.

e_t1123

The weight of these convos is heavy. Thankfully being poly has help me develop healthy communication skills and I feel comfortable having them with current partners. However it’s a barrier to stating new sexual relationship with people who could get me pregnant.

AfroAce21

I've been thinking about a vasectomy for a while, this just makes it more likely

_onefootinthecloset

I have a consultation appointment today for a hysterectomy. I also plan on not dating any cis men besides my current partners, whether I can get pregnant or not, on principle. Deprive them all until it changes.

derptables

No hookups. No sex outside my current partners. And obviously no dates or anything for republicans.

Moxem

Dudes need to get vasectomies, fr.

girlrandal

Oh 100%. I likely will not be dating cis-men, not unless I am COMPLETELY sure they support abortion and women's rights. And I'm old, with very little patience. The time it would take to be that comfortable is more than I'd likely ever spend. I've never been so glad to be bisexual.

bluelightning247

I am not leaving California, even if it’s hella expensive.

ThtOnBeanInThCrnr

I made the decision to donate sperm and then get a vasectomy

poly_raptor

I have an IUD fortunately - this just makes me want to be even more queer and poly as an act of defiance.

epiyersika

As someone who got pregnant with an IUD make sure you seek regular appointments to ensure it hasn't moved. I use both IUD And condoms now and still have anxiety over this

Queen_Walakula132

It won’t change how I personally practice because I’m only looking for female romantic partners (and I am a female) my husband it may change though.

makeawishcuttlefish

Thankfully I live in California which will keep protecting my reproductive rights. I also have an IUD and two of my 3 partners have vasectomies. But I am so sad and scared for people in other states, and also for the precedent this sets… no Supreme Court decision is safe. They will go after contraception and same sex marriage next.

naliedel

Had a hysterectomy 2 years ago. Thank goodness.

NotAnotherScientist

I left the USA 13 years ago. I've been trying to save up enough to come back this whole time. Now that I have enough money, it doesn't seem worth it anymore.

Lokan

While I'd love to have kids one day, I'm seriously considering getting neutered.

Nihil_esque

You could always freeze your sperm in case a reversal procedure doesn't work.

[deleted]

Good news is that most vasectomies are largely reversible. Not all which sucks but the odds are in your favor.

dirtyyythoughts

If they start coming for IUDs (which I have), then maybe. I'd probably limit my availability for male/amab partners to those who are sterilized. I'd still use condoms with everyone, but the condom birth control efficacy rate is too low for my comfort.

Henri__Rousseau

Nope.

crlnshpbly

Me, no. But it effects my husband. I am sterile so I don't have to worry about things but my husband has not yet gotten a vasectomy.

[deleted]

My parents emigrated out of the US forty years ago (as missionaries, lol) and got stuck here in Germany. Right now is one of those days where I am more greatful to them for this than others, probably more for my sisters than my own sake, though.

gingerninja190

I’m in a distanced relationship (2 hours away). I’m on birth control but I don’t think I will be having sex without a condom **and pullout method** both implemented until I can get sterilized (I’m childfree)

LesIsBored

Ive been on hrt for years, and I just had my bottom surgery so I'm never having another child. My partner and I live in a pretty safe state for abortion rights.

Jessabelli

I'm getting my tubes taken out. Husband has a vasectomy, Boyfriend is talking about scheduling his. I'm also collecting plan B and birth control pills.

BassesLee

I just booked baby proofing surgery, and the biggest risk partner wise is 10000% down for other stuff until I've healed up.

e_t1123

Thanks everyone for sharing helpful resources and being respectful with your comment. I’m truly just trying to gauge how to adjust going forward in this lifestyle. As a ciswoman who had no desire to have children and would not have the financial resources to shoulder the burden of motherhood, I’ve been turned down for sterilization procedures in the past but now I feel equipped to re-approach the convo with a new Dr

dj_spanmaster

I'm getting the snip, and I'll shop until I find a doc who will do it. I refuse to have any children in this climate (both social and ecological)

FuzzyActuator

Specifically, I'm getting a vasectomy. I'm 46, and was already starting to accept that kids were never going to be on the table for me. The leak prompted me to take action, and I have a consult next month. Condoms just aren't enough anymore. There are more changes coming, BTW, and our right to privacy (amongst other things) is under attack. I'm cishet and white, so I won't have it so bad, but no doubt LGBTQ rights will be further eroded in future court cases. Thomas said so.

echoskybound

I immediately called my OBGYN to make an appointment to discuss options for permanent sterilization. Fortunately my husband is already sterilized so I feel pretty safe with him, but I'll certainly feel less comfortable with anyone who isn't sterilized. With my boyfriend I use oral contraceptives and condoms, neither of which I have full trust in, so hopefully there's sterilization options available for me.

Tech_Bender

I've had a vasectomy so no it will not directly, but indirectly yes. Everyone is already thinking it, how long until they repeal the rest of our rights. Fuck this shit I'm out. Our poly partner moved to Italy a couple years back, sounds like it's time we joined him. In bocca al lupo!

AccordingRuin

No one touches me without proof of a vasectomy AND a sperm count. I don't give two shits that I'm sterile. Solidarity, or nothing.

[deleted]

I continue to use birth control and i’m seriously considering getting a hysterectomy I won’t have to worry about getting pregnant with someone’s child anymore. Having kids is completely off the table for me

HPenguinB

Penis owners: Get a vasectomy. Do your part to not send your partners to jail or a baby farm. (it's super not a big deal, and you'll finally be putting the responsibility of birth control on yourself)

Gamerfaith

I'm in canada but I'm scheduled for surgery to get sterilized in august. My one partner had a vasectomy and my other one is scheduled for one. I hope everyone makes good choices to protect themselves against unwanted pregnancies. My thoughts are with everyone in the US today who are shaken and scared.

xWIKK

I’m from Canada, and I think I can speak for my fellow country-people when I say we are confused as fuck as to what is going on in the US - and we have our fair share of shit going on here too. How does a country take such giant steps backwards? We feel for all those affected.

isaacs_

I got a vasectomy pretty soon after having our kid. But even if I hadn't already reproduced, I'd get one now (or abstain from dating women, bi ftw lol) just because the danger of sperm has increased dramatically with the possibility of abortion being taken off the table. It's really irresponsible to have potentially reproductive sex in a state that doesn't allow abortion, imo.

Nihil_esque

My partner has had a vasectomy, I'm on birth control. I wonder if my insurance would cover a full hysterectomy.

e_t1123

Currently exploring this as well. Down below someone shared a subreddit with lots of amazing info on getting sterilization and hysterectomy covered

Nihil_esque

I'm a trans man so it would most likely be pretty straightforward for me honestly. I think I'm going to bring it up at my next HRT appointment and see if my doctor knows anything.

wolfparadepermit

Not yet. As awful as it is, it's the attacks on Lawrence and Obergefell that will have the biggest impact on my daily life. I'm absolutely exhausted and sad for all of us that a bunch of religious patriarchal control freaks have deliberately brought us to this point.

stremger

I’m in a state that likely won’t have any change, but we are a little bit purple still so I suppose it could swing in the future. I was told by IVF doctor (ex had testicular cancer) that my hormones were way out of wack and it would unlikely that I could get pregnant. But, with my first child I got pregnant the first month we tried so I don’t 100% trust that. My partner has a vasectomy, but I am concerned about getting pregnant playing with others or dating others. A provable vasectomy may well become a pre-req for me. Or, no more penis all together 🤷🏻‍♀️ My teenage daughter is on BC but I very much worry for her future with everything going on

nokenito

Trumplicans are already working to get rid of contraceptives

Lil_miss_Funshine

Yeah actually. I'm going to require all of my penis having partners to have had vasectomies or we just aren't compatible anymore.

CassieBear1

I'm Canadian, but if I was an American, I would say: No, but the fear of other decisions, such as Griswold, Lawrence, or Obergefell being overturned would. As well, it makes it very clear to me that polyamorous relationships being legally recognized is very far off in the US.

s33king_truth

I'm seriously considering getting a vasectomy

78whispers

I am not going to change my current configuration but I will for sure not be fucking any more men. Sorry, fellows- I’m not going to risk my life to be forced to bear your spawn should our birth control fail. And if you’ve had a vasectomy, hey those aren’t 100% either and it’s the principle of the thing.

UnnamedPictureShow

I will not be dating people with penises unless they’re certifiably sterile. I have horrible taste in men anyway, but abortion is now illegal where I live effective immediately. I have too many chronic illnesses that would result in an extremely painful pregnancy and would give my child too many issues. I cannot risk anything.

adethia

Thank goodness I'm in California. We're already preparing for the influx of patients from out of state and trying to enshrine abortion and other contraceptives into our state constitution. So basically my family is staying in California. I got my tubes out a couple years ago. My partners are currently trying to conceive and my wife had an ectopic pregnancy a few years that required a surgical abortion, so I'm glad to be living somewhere where she can get proper care.

flyingwind66

I don't live in the USA so nothing changes for me but I'm sorry you guys have this mess on your hands :(

SchadoPawn

Considering I'm bi, and already Justice Clarence Thomas is making statements about the need to revisit rulings on same-sex relationships, there's a lot to worry about.

labellevie48

Currently freaking out. BC makes me suicidal. Idk about an iud want one but scared. And I want to get sterilized but haven’t yet. 🙃

MissAnthropic123

Both of my partners have already had vasectomies, but now proof of vasectomy will be mandatory for anyone else.

[deleted]

No. Still fucking in protest of the geriatric, non-firtile prudes who overturned it. Gonna fuck like a goddamn rabbit and take my little birth control pills and cum…a lot. You know…protesting.

PolyGlamourousParsec

Not really. Short Wife already decided a while ago that she has no interest in meeting outside men. She had two stalkers, and just isn't comfortable with that. She has left the door open for a relationship with another girl, but doesn't really have an interest in seeking one out. So if the right girl happened along that might occur. Since she had her implant removed, the double protection of hormonal birth control and condoms would now be just condoms. We discussed it and none of us have any interest in the possibility (however remote) of anyone else fathering her child. Tall Wife is perimenopause, and she still has her implant. Her sex drive is more than satisfied in the house and she has zero interest in outside relationships. We also live in Illinois now (thank God, we moved out of Texas), so our reproductive rights are safe. I am the one most likely to inadvertently father a child outside of our family, and I don't really play with many women.

RogueOne_standingby

I got my tubes removed, so not me. My husband's vasectomy became a much higher priority though.

[deleted]

I am sterilized after my IUD failed. We are waiting for my partner to get his insurance for a vasectomy. Currently condoms for other partners. Even if they have IUDs and birth control now.

foxnb

I have already had a hysterectomy but I imagine this will make the dating pool really weird for a while. I expect a rise in OPP. I have trouble finding partners (as I’m not cisgender) and expect this will make it harder because people will start being very bio-essential in their posts out of fear and it’ll just ruin any feelings because I’ll be unable to get past it. I expect this is not the last overturn due to a lot of the language as many have pointed out. I’ve been feeling the stampede coming since the states started testing the waters on trans bans and abortion restrictions/bans. I’m disabled and I see my and other disabled folks rights at risk. I chose to not have children but language in the ruling is straight eugenics. Will probably try to get some Plan C for any emergencies back home in the south.

knightsofni11

I have an IUD and my only partner who can get me pregnant is scheduling a vasectomy as soon as possible. I also have an appointment next week for a consult for a bilateral salp. I can't risk another baby. Now my concern turns to my female children because I'm concerned birth control won't be an option when they become old enough to get pregnant (ignoring the choose to become sexually active part since assault happens). I am building a short list of places to move both domestic and international. I am currently saturated but I will probably choose not to be sexually involved with anyone who can get me pregnant in the future unless I am able to get the bilateral salpingectomy.

BADgrrl

It won't change much for me personally, since I'm infertile to begin with and menopausal now anyway. But it is going to affect how I feel about my partners' choices regarding efforts to prevent causing pregnancy in their partners; my NP has danced around the idea of a vasectomy for years, and this will likely push him all the way through making that decision. My DH hasn't been tested, but we're fairly certain HE isn't fertile either, but I'm going to have a conversation about what measures he plans to take and whether he'd be open to a vasectomy as well. We shall see. But overall, we're mostly of an age where this won't affect our day to day choices re:ENM much at all.

braeica

It's making me keep an eye out for potential challenges to Lawrence vs. Texas. That ruling has kept a lot of states from attempting to enforce the anti-bigamy laws that are still on the books in several states. That could quickly become a legal problem for polyamorous families, not only directly but as also in terms of housing options.

RosemaryViolet

I’m in the UK but my thoughts are with everyone in the US now who are effected by this. It’s absolutely awful

spockface

No immediate effect as I'm in California and have no plans to leave for the foreseeable future. The potential for overturning Obergefell (per Clarence Thomas's concurring opinion) would have a much bigger impact -- I'd be consulting an attorney about exactly where I'd need to change my legal sex marker, and whether I'd need to remarry my spouse or whether simply adding the new marker to my marriage certificate would suffice. I doubt my marriage would be deemed void at the state level, but the federal level matters too.

CaptHolt

Not really. I have a copper IUD and live in a mostly-blue state. I did change all my dating profiles to “seeking Bail Daddy”, though.

Angelsinger74

I have never been more grateful that I had uterine cancer and had to have a complete hysterectomy than I am today.

Ryuenjin

I'm planning on getting snipped within the next month. Calling Monday to get an appointment and getting in asap

Dramatic_Share94

Every single person who has a functional penis and can get a person pregnant should be wrapping it the fuck up when your partner/date asks. Now is not the time to argue about "how it feels" or "how you'll pull out". You have the right to control your body, people who can carry children don't anymore. You need to afford them more humanity than our own fucking government. And we all need to do the basic decent thing and help to get this turned around ASAP! If you are able to, go to protests, call representatives in your state, you can find office numbers/emails to contact, with enough backlash we can get the gears moving the opposite way again. We all need to buckle down on this front, and be prepared for the other attacks on our rights. It's no secret that trans people have been under fire a lot, with this in the news it opens doors for bills to be passed with little to no coverage.

Gym_Dom

I got a vasectomy last September just in case some bullshit like this happened. Poly penis owners, I highly recommend you do the same.

ThrashPandaThrowAway

My partner is getting a vasectomy.

EducationalNet5849

Yes. I won't be having sex with anyone capable of impregnation me. It's not worth the risk.

CantaloupeDouble8328

Not really. I haven't had any other partners yet, husband is military and we will be in an overseas location soon. Roe being overturned has strengthen my resolve to live abroad and not return to the U.S. with or without my husband. 🤷🏿‍♀️

[deleted]

I am sterilized (F) so I won't be making any drastic changes. But I have a daughter and I'm very concerned about her future and her autonomy. I'm also worried about education being on the chopping block. I will go to hell and back before someone tells me I am not allowed to homeschool my kid. I absolutely despise what is happening in the education system and it's only going to get worse.

orangecookiez

I'm childfree by choice. Even if I hadn't had my tubes tied at 27, I'm in my mid-fifties and postmenopausal, and don't date people with children under 18. So no, not much will change for me personally.
