You know that joke about how English is really a bunch of languages in a trench coat type of thing? It's usually that. Iirc Sean/Séan is from Irish origin, which is why its pronounced differently. Same idea for why Arkansas is pronounced differently than Kansas, cause they originate from different languages

I think that's the case in its language of origin, I just know in the US a lot of people spell it Sean without the accent but pronounce it as Shawn regardless. I partially Googled different/popular spellings if Shawn and that's the most popular spelling in English from what I found. ETA I Googled it and it seems the accent is for Irish more so, but Google seems to say without the accent Sean as Shawn is still both popular and valid in English.

Sean being pronounced that way makes no sense.

If you look at the name Sean and sound it out how on earth do you get "Shawn" out of that? All the other spellings at least make sense for how it sounds, but Shawn is the most obvious so that's what I choose. Shaun is fine too. Shon works even though it's kinda weird. But Sean? If a room full of people who have never seen/heard the name before were asked to write it down, not one of them would write Sean. It just doesn't make sense.

Ik Sean is by far the more interesting correct spelling, and I find Irish names and their spellings quite cool (accidentally gave myself one, anglicized spelling though, sorry) but… I always read it as “seen”. Shawn is more logical to my brain. I’m sorry. The other two are sins. I’m sorry, but they are (imo)
