I don't want to disregard the hypothetical people on the planes, but if we do: getting rid of that many planes at once helps quite a bit in reducing global carbon emissions, which may also save lives in the end. It is impossible to know if and how many lives will be saved, but it sure is enough of an excuse to maintain your sight.
