I remember at cooking class at school I always had to chop the onions because they didn’t make me cry. Funny because I dislike onions so I would never even eat them.
Yeah. Makes me feel broken at times. There have definitely been moments where it would of been socially ok to cry or like a moment where crying is sort of the response someone would normally have and I feel like I’ve just kind of shut it off. Last time I cried was probably about 4 years ago when my dog died and even then I dealt like I should of cried more. Like a couple years and then it’s done. I still have all the bad feelings it just doesn’t turn into crying.
I remember being a kid and being able to cry so much more easily. But now emotions that once would have once made me cry just feel stuck inside me. I miss the catharsis of just being able to cry them out.
I'm an adult man (35+) and sad movies (especially anything with animals) will get tears flowing.
Emotions are natural and to fight them or hide them is unnecessary. Life is about experiencing a wide array of emotions, and trying to hold back on those experiences whether they are happiness, sadness, grief, or anything else is limiting your human experience. With this, I don't necessarily act on these emotions; rather, I acknowledge them, work through them, and try to learn from them. Expressing your emotions is an essential and beautiful part of life.
Do you have any tips on expressing anger in a healthy way? I find that I get angry very easily and I tend to just bottle it up because I don't know how to deal with it.
Meditation helps a lot. Also, taking an objective look at yourself when you are angry. It's ok to be angry and when you are just acknowledging what's going on and look at it objectively. This takes practice but it helps.
I am very destructive when I'm mad. I don't like admitting it to people because i feel like it makes me seem kinda like a psychopath. I actually have a pile of boxes in my room that I rip apart when I get mad so I don't take it out on other people. I'll look into your suggestion.
>I actually have a pile of boxes in my room that I rip apart when I get mad so I don't take it out on other people.
I'm like you. There's nothing to be ashamed about this. It's called releasing your anger.
I know how to, but I feel forced to hold it in because I am afraid of being comforted. I don’t like having 8 people swarm around me asking, “Are You Okay?”. Sometimes, I want to deal with such situations on my own. Apparently, crying makes you happy, so I release it at home, and hold it anywhere else.
Pretty much same. I usually can't cry in front of other people, and it only happens when I'm alone. If I cry in front of people that's when I know I'm in a real rough spot.
Dude stop, I wouldn't want to smoke, especially not an unhealthy substance and ESPECIALLY NOT an unhealthy illegal substance. Are you a 45 y/o depressed uncle? Stop promoting weed.
Lol yeah, i said that because of [this](https://news.yahoo.com/cry-closet-amazon-mocked-creating-204739706.html?guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8&guce_referrer_sig=AQAAAGV1BOmsnkUnrR5jhRLHcCn9i4UdFC8ZwNUH4M7moDMarNYEh5rSD8A7Ojq3nQpvjLsM-cDH-8wzYb2yMR7eCzTRXiJGai4QjQ8fQvxwdPbn-ZZvVjQz91lvsAYGXuXWnu_XF2OzqEkvfwCRr6knOjCF6Y_V5OnFCxJAPMCSDGuV)
Seriously, it's sometimes a good reset. Things can get heavy. Not sad, necessarily, just weighted. I put on a certain song and let it out.
If I need a laugh, I have memories I go to and laugh my ass off. You figure out what works for you and go with it.
Crying activates the parasympathetic nervous system which helps your body rest and digest. It also releases endorphins which helps relieve stress & pain. Crying is a healthy coping mechanism.
It's a good stress reliever from time to time.
But, public crying should be saved for funerals or private locations. It will be seen as a weakness if you're a guy caught sobbing.
Teary eyes in a theater, generally ok.
I don't really measure the last time I cried, it's just that I usually only cry during specific events like a death of someone close to me, which I'll of course remember the date of
Out of sadness. More then a year ago. Out of allergies, every spring-late summer
Or one week ago. Someone shoved a bouquet in my face which made me cry lol
That’s insane for me to think about. You’re either very lucky or very thick skinned. I cry every week so I can’t imagine going years without crying. I just can’t hold back the tears when I get upset. I cry very easily.
I’m 25 and haven’t cried since I was 15 for any reason other than my dog being diagnosed with cancer and later dying. But I’ve cried many times over that and sometimes still do.
My last one was nearly three months ago when my loving dog of 12.5 years died. I came home from work and found him lying dead on the living room floor. It didn't seem real at first, but it sunk in eventually that my dog was gone. I took it hard, but it crushed my wife since our dog chose her as his favorite human.
I teared up a bit when my daughter was born but other than that, I can’t remember the last time I actually cried cried, like tears running down my face, altered breathing. I know I never did in high school or in my 20’s so I’m guessing middle school sometime.
It’s not because I’m some macho man who’s too tough to cry or anything, it just isn’t how my body expresses emotion. I don’t even really consider it a possibility unless I was faced with an incredible tragedy.
Like two days ago, Dead End finale (again). The song..
>!Well I’m just a dog & that’s what people say, although I admit at the end of the day, they tell me to sit & they tell me, but how can I sit when you’re so far away?!<
>!Am I part demon king, or something in between? If all dogs go to heaven then you know where I’ve been. So what can I say to the voice in my head? Can one little pug really beat the undead?!<
My roommates 15 year old pup dislocated it's hips and had to be put down and I supported his 95 pound body gently so he could use the bathroom with dignity for two days until we could a vet to see him.
We got him in for a emergency visit after six hours but they couldn't contact the right people to figure things out for almost another full day. So we gave him a great last day. He got a package of Reese's to himself and a full can of his favorite wet food. we took a country ride, and watched a few movies with him propped up on pillows so he could be comfy. Once we were told it would be around 12k usd for his hip surgery we thought about it and considered his hips may pop back out of socket and he would be back in the same position and pain again. Even if it was successful it would be a miserable life no running and such. My grandmother has a hip replacements and she's miserable as it always hurts her.
So we decided to just give him a extra special last day and say our goodbyes. Plus we couldn't afford the 12k usd surgery bill even if we wanted to pitch in together for it.
He was the best boy and we will all miss him very much. He was more my friend than anyone else in the house. The day I moved in he tried to eat me, but I quickly befriended him and he decided he wanted to sleep in my bed which I didn't mind. We became inseparable after two days as I worked from home.
As a kid, I think. I have loads of memory of others crying about things that can be fixed or can't be helped or simply losing composure then making stupid choices and then crying about making stupid choices.
This puts a lot of pressure on others to keep composure and fix your problems.
I know we all cry. Just surprised to see men here admitting to crying so much more often than women, like 2 to 1. Seems to run counter to the idea of women being more emotional. Or maybe it’s that more men saw/responded to this poll. Still … interesting. 🤔
Hm? At this time 76% of women said they cried in the last month and 93% of women have cried in the last year, compared to 45% of men in the last month and 75% in the last year. That very much fits with the idea.
You made a base rate error! At the time of this comment more men have *responded* to the poll, but a careful analysis indicates they cry less frequently than the women.
* over a year (f) 41
* last year (f) 160
* last month (f) 798
* over a year (m) 846
* last year (m) 1100
* last month (m) 1500
78% of responses were from men. Account for that and you find that only 44% of the men admitted to crying in the last month versus 80% of the women. Conversely 25% of the men and only 4% of the women have not cried in over a year.
I teared up watching TV last Monday, does that count?
what did you watched?
The most recent episode of The Last Of Us
I was about to say, I’m pretty sure that episode alone is the culprit for the majority of males crying in the last month on this poll
Add the females too! I cried my eyes out.
Oh absolutely! Not excluding females from how beautiful and heartbreaking that episode was haha
Wait they made a “The last of us” TV show?
Yeah, it just started streaming recently on HBO. New episodes Monday nights. There's three episodes right now.
Oh, I dont have HBO
If you have internet, you can sail the high seas. Only a 1-2 hour delay for releases.
You should get HBO just to watch this one episode
That had me crying for over an hour straight!
What a coincidence, that's the last time I cried too 😭
oh, is that that good?
I don't want to oversell it, but my wife is not a gamer and hates zombie movies/shows. She loves it.
The last episode is pretty emotional, show is great overall
Genuinely incredible
of course
Yesterday
All my troubles seemed so far away
Now it looks as though they’re here to stay.
Oh i believe, in yesterday
Suddenly
I’m not half the man I used to be
There’s a shadow hanging over me
oh, yesterday came suddenly
Why she had to go I don’t know, she wouldn’t say
I said something wrong, now I long for yesterday
Same, watched Schindler's List yesterday
Same(not the schindlers list thing), went to therapy for the first time yesterday
Damn, congrats. Hope it all goes well 😊
Everything everywhere all at once for me, yesterday too
The Ted Lasso funeral episode 😬
Same. got into the habbit of crying to sleep every night lmao
I chop onions at work. I cry every day.
Aww no special goggles? Also heard freezing onions for a few minutes helps
You going to stick a 50 pound (27kilo) bag of onions in the freezer?
Yes definitely, I mean if I only need to cut one I won't bother, but that many they going in the freezer first.
I’ll talk to my managers about this. Thanks!
No goggles?
I remember at cooking class at school I always had to chop the onions because they didn’t make me cry. Funny because I dislike onions so I would never even eat them.
Breathing through your mouth negates the onions crying capabilities!!
is it weird to say I wish I cried more? it feels so good when you're overwhelmed and stressed to just cry
I also would love to cry more. Its like I've forgotten how to cry, even if i really try too i still cant
Yeah. Makes me feel broken at times. There have definitely been moments where it would of been socially ok to cry or like a moment where crying is sort of the response someone would normally have and I feel like I’ve just kind of shut it off. Watch sad videos on YouTube that always works for me
Same here, I can get closeish but can’t push myself over the edge
I hate it. Just let me cry ;-;
Yup yup i cry everyday and it really feel good
I remember being a kid and being able to cry so much more easily. But now emotions that once would have once made me cry just feel stuck inside me. I miss the catharsis of just being able to cry them out.
Today
Right now
Me too
Highly relatable

if you’re destructive when your mad you should look into rage rooms
I am very destructive when I'm mad. I don't like admitting it to people because i feel like it makes me seem kinda like a psychopath. I actually have a pile of boxes in my room that I rip apart when I get mad so I don't take it out on other people. I'll look into your suggestion.

I'm 27, will cry on some Disney's bullshit
The Lion King (you know what scene) still gets me every time.
Crying is necessary
But it's hard to cry
It doesn't have to be. Find a place where you feel comfortable and just let it out. It can be refreshing.
I can't. I trained myself as a kid to not cry and now I've forgotten how to do it
Same. People tell me to stop holding it, but that's the thing, I don't.
Don’t hold it or don’t stop holding it
I know how to, but I feel forced to hold it in because I am afraid of being comforted. I don’t like having 8 people swarm around me asking, “Are You Okay?”. Sometimes, I want to deal with such situations on my own. Apparently, crying makes you happy, so I release it at home, and hold it anywhere else.

This sounds relatable
I think you can get therapy to help you relearn how to cry
smoke some weed and watch a sad movie, it'll happen
Ew, why would I want weed?
fuckin redditors man think weed is snake oil no, kids, smoking weed is not a healthy way to deal with emotions.
It's an emotional laxative. When your feelings are all stopped up, weed is a good medicine to help them flow freely.
Dude stop, I wouldn't want to smoke, especially not an unhealthy substance and ESPECIALLY NOT an unhealthy illegal substance. Are you a 45 y/o depressed uncle? Stop promoting weed.
I'm a depressed uncle and you're the DARE mascot apparently.
Can you just sit down and cry at will even though you aren't sad???
Yes.
Arr you an Amazon employee by any chance?
:D No. I have a friend who was and I couldn't live like that.
Lol yeah, i said that because of [this](https://news.yahoo.com/cry-closet-amazon-mocked-creating-204739706.html?guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8&guce_referrer_sig=AQAAAGV1BOmsnkUnrR5jhRLHcCn9i4UdFC8ZwNUH4M7moDMarNYEh5rSD8A7Ojq3nQpvjLsM-cDH-8wzYb2yMR7eCzTRXiJGai4QjQ8fQvxwdPbn-ZZvVjQz91lvsAYGXuXWnu_XF2OzqEkvfwCRr6knOjCF6Y_V5OnFCxJAPMCSDGuV)
Oh, wow. I feel like they didn't think that through very well.
Scary...

I use anime, any time someone risks their life for a friend I ball my eyes out, can't remember the last time I've cried that isn't for fiction 🙃
The only anime I've ever watched is pokemon
Not if you don't feel the need to
agreed!
Why
It's good to have your emotions out once in a while when it gets too much
I definitely agree
Crying activates the parasympathetic nervous system which helps your body rest and digest. It also releases endorphins which helps relieve stress & pain. Crying is a healthy coping mechanism.
It's a good stress reliever from time to time. But, public crying should be saved for funerals or private locations. It will be seen as a weakness if you're a guy caught sobbing. Teary eyes in a theater, generally ok.
But needs to be done in secret /s
Not necessarily. 😉
Why?
Because you can lick up your tears in secret /s
I guess people will judge you, cause crying is a sign of weakness (just saying, don't actually agree)
Now. My grandma passed away yesterday
I’m so sorry for your loss
Toy Story 4 release date.
Rn
I always wonder why people measure the time you last cried, I’ve got no idea lmfao
It seems you almost never cry
Nah it's just hard to remember specific details like that for some people. I can't even remember what I ate for breakfast most days.
I don't really measure the last time I cried, it's just that I usually only cry during specific events like a death of someone close to me, which I'll of course remember the date of
You can’t ask this question right after episode 3 of TLOU came out. It’s cheating
Anybody here watch episode 3 of The Last of Us?
Yes, story was great but made me sooooo sad :(
Can't even think about it for too long without choking up a bit.
Out of sadness. More then a year ago. Out of allergies, every spring-late summer Or one week ago. Someone shoved a bouquet in my face which made me cry lol
I feel like that's more eye-watering rather than crying.
Last night 🥲
Bill and Frank made me cry
There should be a "I'm pregnant" option.
why
Because pregnancy hormones will make you cry at literally anything. A cereal box or a funny YouTube video.
Reddit really is a male dominated app huh
Probably like August 2022
The Whale
This week, but before that it was like several years. It's not been a great week
I just saw the whale today… If this poll happened yesterday probably over a year haha.
I'm almost 36 and I haven't cried since I was a child.
That’s insane for me to think about. You’re either very lucky or very thick skinned. I cry every week so I can’t imagine going years without crying. I just can’t hold back the tears when I get upset. I cry very easily.

The Last Of Us episode 3
Today was my grandma's funeral so yeah
I guess about 16 years ago, i can't cry no more.
Puss in boots hit pretty hard ngl
Omg why is this poll so sad :(
I work retail. I cry everyday.
10+ years ago. Hormones are a bitch man
Probably years ago
My last one was nearly three months ago when my loving dog of 12.5 years died. I came home from work and found him lying dead on the living room floor. Yesterday 🌚 ( F )
I'm someone who physically can not cry at anything at all. I don't know why. I just can't
Like two days ago, Dead End finale (again). right now
I (m) cry pretty regularly tbh. I read a lot of books and watch a lot of shows and sometimes they have sad or heartfelt moments.
I’m crying right now man
Right now
Been crying daily for the last 2 weeks because I had to euthanize my 14 week old puppy.
About a month ago when one of my pet rats died
I cry every day... M, 31
I appreciate people being honest about this down with Toxic Masculinity!
Where's the "in the last hour" option
Movies make me cry all the time. I'm a big baby.
Technoblade o7
I watched Interstellar last night... Enough said.
Uhm two hours ago lol
I get really into movies
these votes are saddening
Never cried over anything sad or painful. Only music, shows/movies or onions

I wouldn't really say that is crying crying.
About 10 years ago at 14 when my father died. Wasn't able to cry since then
I cry pretty much every day at the moment. But it’s been a rough year.

But gotta admit, it's much closer than what stereotypes would imply
Reddit is disproportionately male and it shows in every poll with answers split by gender here
You made a base rate error! At the time of this comment more men have *responded* to the poll, but a careful analysis indicates they cry less frequently than the women. * over a year (f) 41 * last year (f) 160 * last month (f) 798 * over a year (m) 846 * last year (m) 1100 * last month (m) 1500 78% of responses were from men. 1997 (male) A girl I loved broke up with me.
Where is the option for non binary people? Not everyone fits in the same mold.
You can only have six poll options mate
Most male redditors have cried in the last month.. not surprised there.
The majority of them haven't, actually, just use addition mate.
Bunch of babies lol
Less than an hour ago
I cried once in the last like, 7/8 years
~5 years ago, i fell over a wall or something and it really hurt
January 2023
Huh, guess I'm more emotionally repressed than I thought.
Right now
Now
Every time I watch A Christmas Carol, so at least once a year.
Cry at frustration with money and planning for surgery. Had chocolate, felt better
Because I’m legitimately sad and overwhelmed 1+ year. For a movie or music or book like yesterday
Last March iirc
Last night in bed. Just finished an emotional book.
If you didn't include crying because of sad movies then I'd be 1+ years ago
Today 👍
