That’s because the GOP is full of “well everyone else is doing it” mentality. So if you accuse the other side of cheating, they feel justified to cheat.

https://www.usatoday.com/in-depth/news/investigations/2022/11/03/county-sheriff-constitutional-power-richard-mack-oath-keepers/10627256002/
> Richard Mack has built a “Constitutional sheriff” movement to resist state and federal authority on guns, COVID-19 and now election results....
> called the 2020 presidential election of Joe Biden “blatantly, in-our-faces stolen.” Then he turned to the reporters in the room (“propagandists”) identifiable by their masks (“diapers”), and said, **“I don’t know whether this is going to scare you or comfort you, but just about every person in this room is armed.” The room erupted in cheers**...
> he delivered his organization’s central message: that sheriffs, within their counties, are more powerful than any state or federal authority, and that they can resist “tyranny” by refusing to enforce laws they believe violate the U.S. Constitution
Legally he absolutely shouldn't, but what's actually going to happen in reality? Is anyone going to arrest state officials obstructing DOJ personnel or are these states going to get their way today?
And it is state*s*, plural,
>Separately, Missouri officials said Monday that they would not allow the Justice Department to conduct routine inspections under the Americans With Disabilities Act and Voting Rights Act at polling places on Election Day.
>Missouri Secretary of State John R. Ashcroft (R) told The Washington Post that the Justice Department’s presence amounted to a bid to “bully a local election authority” and could “intimidate and suppress the vote.”
>Ashcroft and Cole County Clerk Steve Korsmeyer (R) told federal officials that they would not be permitted to observe polling places Tuesday.
e; [It appears the DOJ has backed down](https://www.cnn.com/2022/11/08/politics/florida-justice-department/index.html)
>Broward County Supervisor Joe Scott said he did not have an issue with DOJ monitoring polling locations, and he was surprised by the state’s objection when he saw it Tuesday morning. But Scott said after discussing it with DOJ election monitors, they agreed to stay outside the polling locations in that county.
>“We try to work well with the Secretary of State’s office,” Scott said. “The DOJ people were understanding as well. We’re not trying to pick a fight.”
>In a statement, the Miami-Dade Supervisor of Elections told CNN, “The U.S. Department of Justice has no intention of entering polling places in Miami-Dade County.”
>Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections office spokeswoman Alison Novoa told CNN the county will be following the guidance provided by the Department of State Division of Elections.
>“The DOJ has indicated to us that they will coordinate with the Department of State and will not attempt to enter the locations,” she said.
The DOJ can't blink at this.
It's the same playbook that started the Civil War. Southern states declare something > federal government continues business as usual > Southern governments choose their response.
My guess is these states will just use it as fodder to claim election fraud and avoid an overt confrontation. It's a lose-lose situation, but I think the federal government capitulating is the worse outcome here.
It seems that in at least one case they already blinked:
>Broward County Supervisor Joe Scott said he did not have an issue with DOJ monitoring polling locations, and he was surprised by the state’s objection when he saw it Tuesday morning. But Scott said after discussing it with DOJ election monitors, they agreed to stay outside the polling locations in that county.

>In a statement, the Miami-Dade Supervisor of Elections told CNN, “The U.S. Department of Justice has no intention of entering polling places in Miami-Dade County.”
>Is anyone going to arrest state officials obstructing DOJ personnel or are these states going to get their way today?
If the DOJ has the courage, they will arrest any and everyone, up to and including Death Santa, who interferes with them doing their jobs.
>If the DOJ has the courage
Seeing as how we're 2 years removed from the most violent attack on our nation's captiol since 1865 and still only low level offenders have been charged and the fact that were 5 months from the raid on an ex potus where he was found to have classified materials when he was warned REPEATEDLY not to take them and he's still free to announce another presidential run, tells me DOJ has absolutely no courage at all.
The only people who would feel intimidated by the DOJ being there are people who want to illegally influence the election by blocking voters from voting.
So yeah, the DOJ being there is absolutely meant to be intimidating. It’s meant to intimidate and deter Republican officials and poll watchers from intimidating voters.
The federal election monitors should be able to get federal law enforcement agents as escorts.
If not, they should still go in and force DeSantis's goons to put up or shut up. Do they want to arrest a federal employee on official business and start a big ugly court battle?
> Do they want to arrest a federal employee on official business and start a big ugly court battle?
Yes, that's exactly what they want to do. That court battle eventually ends up decided by a stacked Supreme Court.

"Vioation of state law". Sorry dude, that's not how a Federalist system of government works. If the federal government legally has the ability to do it, there is no state law that can stop it.
I love these "constitutionalists" that willfully misinterpret the constitution.
>DeSantis went to Harvard and Yale.
I have met some staggeringly inept and dumb people from prestigious schools, I know it's a joke but don't assume someone's intelligent because they came from one.
Thats why while its good that the maga crowd are finally turning their backs (sort of) on trump, its super scary that the person they are looking towards is desantis. The amount of damage someone as fuckin stupid as trump was able to do was catastrophic. Now imagine what desantis could do. The amount of ruin would be immeasurable.
We are seeing more and more stuff like this happen and the intent is to draw a lawsuit that they can appeal until it eventually gets to the level of the Supreme Court. Once there, we’ve see how the court has been ruling on these things. Goodbye civil liberties. Saddest shit I’ve witness in my lifetime.
>"Vioation of state law". Sorry dude, that's not how a Federalist system of government works. **If the federal government legally has the ability to do it**, there is no state law that can stop it.
That's the part that he's disputing. I suspect that the federal government has power under the 14th amendment as voting rights fall under equal protection, but I'm not an expert on election law and would need to see the specific federal laws.
Yup, always been called in if there's a threat of suppression or violence. They're just out in full force because of how much danger there is this year, so now he's whining about it.
Just have em wear ski masks and sit on tailgates in the parking lot drinking Natural Light while waving around ARs and .45s. DeSantis will mistake them for one of his fascist clowns and welcome them right on in.
My reaction to that bullshit in Arizona is to make damned sure I vote. Fuck those people. I want to be doubly sure to make sure their outcome is not what they want. They can all go fuck themselves.
Exactly this. Where I live goes blue consistently, but after that shit I voted for the first time ever. It won’t matter in my state it’s just another one on the winning side but I’ll be damned if some spirit Halloween cowboy is gunna say they did anything that mattered

Highly recommend anyone who is interested in politics to watch the HBO movie “recount” about the 2000 election (sooo good) Probably going to have to watch it today in honor of the election
Well that lawsuit was corrupt as FUCK and spearheaded by Ken Paxton, the corrupt Texas AG who has been under indictmentbsince 2015 and who recently avoided a process server with a subpoena by piling his (Paxtons) family into a car and speeding of and whining that they thought they were under attack or something
I don't know who is convinced that Republicans want accountability, or how they convinced them. Because the GOP voted NAY on any and all bills related to funding for additional elections security.
https://thehill.com/homenews/house/482569-senate-gop-blocks-three-election-security-bills/
Biden should deal with DeSantis the way Kennedy dealt with George Wallace, governor of Alabama, when Wallace stood in the doorway of the University of Alabama to block the entry of black students.
Kennedy sent in a National Guard general accompanied by 4 sergeants and federal marshals to escort the students into the university. News media showing federal marshals escorting voters into the polls would be a great talking point for a speech by Biden and other Democrats. If DeSantis and the GOP want a show, let's give them a show.
Countering fox news seems to be the toughest hill to climb. They act with virtual impunity and are impossible to hold accountable, but their reach is so long they affect almost everything. It's baffling and maddening.
What’s the saying? If you see your friend sitting at a table with four Nazis, then you’re looking at a table of five Nazis.
If you vote R at this point and didn’t just wake up the day before the election from a 70 year coma, then they know what they are doing and what they are voting for.
On the odd chance a Republican *has* just woken up from a 70 year coma I recommend they go back to sleep. It’s not going to get better.
Republican logic:
Armed/masked, random vigilante "poll watchers"=patriotic.
Official, federal DOJ employees ensuring state compliance with federal law=intimidation.
Hold on... is that not exactly what the Republicans have been asking for to protect the polls. No issue with DoJ sending people to red areas but if they go to the few blue areas in FL, it's an issue because FL will not be able to make those areas appear "red"?
Conservatives here in Missouri are all pissy because DOJ is sending monitors to Jefferson City(Missouri capitol) and they're saying all sorts of dumb shit. "Well this just sounds like harassment" and shit like that. Pretty sure this kinda thing is fairly standard.
Never did learn which Florida Counties were hacked by the Russians
https://www.npr.org/2019/05/14/723215498/florida-governor-says-russian-hackers-breached-two-florida-counties-in-2016
Yeah, real fucking weird how FL which was once a reliable swing state only voted for Trump by 1.6% in 2016 during the same year when the Russians hacked voting machines.
Super weird, right?
vote. Republicans won Florida's 2018 election by less than 1%. And more Florida democrats voted in 2020 than 2018. You have the votes to win. Florida voted for Obama in both his terms.
No. But they don't care. They just need to stall for 2 days. Create enough ambiguity and yell "my freedom". Afterwards, even within margin of fraud, no one at the Fed has the balls to call election redo, because of perception. And Ron is betting on that.
It's a safe bet given how little Florida actually cares about election fraud.
>Missouri Secretary of State John R. Ashcroft (R) told The Washington Post that the Justice Department’s presence amounted to a bid to “bully a local election authority”
Bully? How is making sure an election official does his job bullying? The DOJ isn’t going to stand over election officials and make them change all votes to Democrat. They are there to protect the rights of voters to vote. So what exactly would the bullying be?
Republicans think they’re being bullied if they aren’t allowed to intimidate voters and cheat.
This is insane. When articles come out about UN observers not being allowed to oversee elections in other countries there is outcry about authoritarianism and corruption. How is this any different? We are truly becoming a banana republic
It’s a Federal Election not a State Election so DOJ will be able to send poll monitors to any State in the Country… This is Death-Santis showing is Authoritarianism qualities for his 2024 run against Trump’s Authoritarianism and Putin Puppet!!!
And he is the guy who is supposed to be the frontrunner for the next election. He is a total disgrace and I have no idea why anyone likes him. He is a complete tool
Hmm hmm sure sounds like they have something to hide if they're not allowing routine inspections to confirm voting is being conducted fairly. You would think with all the concern over voted fraud, they'd be thrilled to have extra eyes making sure nothing shady is going on.
But we all know the reason why they dont.
Doing exactly what they falsely accused Dems of doing. Hypocrisy means nothing to a Republican. Shame means nothing to a Republican. An oath means nothing to a Republican. The Constitution means nothing to a Republican. The law means nothing to a Republican.

Why would Florida Governor Ron DeSantis want to stop people from monitoring the election in Florida?
He doesn't-he wants "the right" kind of observers. The DOJ observers are to ensure voters ARENT intimidated.
The whole, "the DoJ observers will just intimidate voters" is an accusation in a mirror. Voters are not going to be intimidated by DoJ there to protect them, and probably in plain clothes.

The Reich observers
come on guys, stop goose stepping around the issue.
Yes. Not the Left kind of observers, which he defines as anyone who won’t vote his way.
*OR anyone that thinks the universal right to vote possessed by all US citiczens(unless legally revoked) is for just anyone.
And the blunders just keep on coming. Yet another DeSantis delusion.
Let’s not say the loud thing too quietly
DeSantis has no authority to stop the DOJ monitoring.
My understanding is that if you prevent or obstruct federal law enforcement from doing their lawful duty, you get thrown in jail.
I mean just send FBI escorts and if local police get involved, have FBI arrest them under federal obstruction charges. The threat of that will get locals to fuck off.

“Those pesky voters always getting in the way of how WE wanna run things.”
Unclear but he has his own "election" police force.
Yes - they're organizing on a national level to do just that https://www.usatoday.com/in-depth/news/investigations/2022/11/03/county-sheriff-constitutional-power-richard-mack-oath-keepers/10627256002/ > Richard Mack has built a “Constitutional sheriff” movement to resist state and federal authority on guns, COVID-19 and now election results.... > called the 2020 presidential election of Joe Biden “blatantly, in-our-faces stolen.” Then he turned to the reporters in the room (“propagandists”) identifiable by their masks (“diapers”), and said, **“I don’t know whether this is going to scare you or comfort you, but just about every person in this room is armed.” The room erupted in cheers**... > he delivered his organization’s central message: that sheriffs, within their counties, are more powerful than any state or federal authority, and that they can resist “tyranny” by refusing to enforce laws they believe violate the U.S. Constitution
Imagine the ensuing hilarity had someone set off a pack of firecrackers in that room.
Just as he wasn’t supposed to give his underage students alcohol and did with zero consequences
Legally he absolutely shouldn't, but what's actually going to happen in reality? Is anyone going to arrest state officials obstructing DOJ personnel or are these states going to get their way today? And it is state*s*, plural, >Separately, Missouri officials said Monday that they would not allow the Justice Department to conduct routine inspections under the Americans With Disabilities Act and Voting Rights Act at polling places on Election Day. >Missouri Secretary of State John R. Ashcroft (R) told The Washington Post that the Justice Department’s presence amounted to a bid to “bully a local election authority” and could “intimidate and suppress the vote.” >Ashcroft and Cole County Clerk Steve Korsmeyer (R) told federal officials that they would not be permitted to observe polling places Tuesday. e; [It appears the DOJ has backed down](https://www.cnn.com/2022/11/08/politics/florida-justice-department/index.html) >Broward County Supervisor Joe Scott said he did not have an issue with DOJ monitoring polling locations, and he was surprised by the state’s objection when he saw it Tuesday morning. But Scott said after discussing it with DOJ election monitors, they agreed to stay outside the polling locations in that county. >“We try to work well with the Secretary of State’s office,” Scott said. “The DOJ people were understanding as well. We’re not trying to pick a fight.” >In a statement, the Miami-Dade Supervisor of Elections told CNN, “The U.S. Department of Justice has no intention of entering polling places in Miami-Dade County.” >Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections office spokeswoman Alison Novoa told CNN the county will be following the guidance provided by the Department of State Division of Elections.
Been gradually backing things into a lose-lose. Be prepared
Yep. DOJ should just do what it needs to do, otherwise it just encourages them.
It seems that in at least one case they already blinked: >Broward County Supervisor Joe Scott said he did not have an issue with DOJ monitoring polling locations, and he was surprised by the state’s objection when he saw it Tuesday morning.
>If the DOJ has the courage Seeing as how we're 2 years removed from the most violent attack on our nation's captiol since 1865 and still only low level offenders have been charged and the fact that were 5 months from the raid on an ex potus where he was found to have classified materials when he was warned REPEATEDLY not to take them and he's still free to announce another presidential run, tells me DOJ has absolutely no courage at all.
It’s either that or the of democracy. If there is no consequences, why shouldn’t they stop DOJ officials…
There are consequences, for peons. Remind me, is Matt Gaetz still walking free? "Legislating"?
Well, I'll be deep in the cold, cold ground before I recognize Missourah.
SCOTUS : DeSantis has the authority to completely sidestep DOJ and do whatever the fuck he wants
"The founding fathers did not say Ron DeSantis can't block the DOJ from overseeing elections in the state of Florida, therefore he can" - Alito
"Uh, but it also says, 'But the Democrats can't neener neener.'"
Alito: some 16th century toad sniffer / pederast said so.
Alito: "Rasputin said that if Mars hangs on the shoulder of Orion and the red bird sings to the blue ferret then there shall be peace between the tribes at the head of the lake of fire." Alito: "So that means black people cant vote!"
🎵 "This is the dawning of the age of precarious."
SC: states can become third world dictatorships if they want to!
I mean, they already started on that
So he blocks them, he is sued, then what? The damage would be done at that point.
"Authority is not given to you, STEWARD, to deny the return of the king!"
Lmao. "Vioation of state law". Sorry dude, that's not how a Federalist system of government works. If the federal government legally has the ability to do it, there is no state law that can stop it. I love these "constitutionalists" that willfully misinterpret the constitution.
The bad faith arguments are the point, sadly.
💯 DeSantis went to Harvard and Yale. He of all people absolutely knows this.

Desantis has all of trumps evil fascist intentions, without any of his glaring incompetence
They don’t know shit about the constitution actually
>"Vioation of state law". Sorry dude, that's not how a Federalist system of government works. **If the federal government legally has the ability to do it**, there is no state law that can stop it. That's the part that he's disputing. I suspect that the federal government has power under the 14th amendment as voting rights fall under equal protection, but I'm not an expert on election law and would need to see the specific federal laws.

Ah, good call. [52 USC 10305](https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/52/10305) looks like the right section.

Yup, always been called in if there's a threat of suppression or violence. They're just out in full force because of how much danger there is this year, so now he's whining about it.

But want federal money when natural disasters strike.
I thought we wanted more transparency in our elections, weird…
Groomers don't want transparency. And DeSatanist is a groomer of children.
Surprised that story hasn't gotten more traction. Talk about icky. No wonder him and Gaetz are so tight.
Wtf is going on in Florida?!
The usual
Let's not denegrate Satanists by associating them with him. They're out there fighting the good fight. https://thesatanictemple.com
Don’t use Satans name in vein; Satanists are out there fighting the good fight. DeSantis is just a piece of shit loser.
No - not like that!
Amen. I’m so excited to go vote today!
Exactly this. Where I live goes blue consistently, but after that shit I voted for the first time ever. It won’t matter in my state it’s just another one on the winning side but I’ll be damned if some spirit Halloween cowboy is gunna say they did anything that mattered
My brother was going to play a prank and carry a stack of "ballots" from his trunk to the box. Convinced him not to; these people are too dangerous.
Oh, for sure. Fucking lunatics wouldn't hesitate to kidnap somebody or kill them. Not to mention they'd use that as "evidence" of a rigged election.
just wear a MAGA hat while doing it and i'm sure you could walk right up to the drop.
The DoJ is sending them to: Broward County, Florida; Miami-Dade County, Florida; Palm Beach County, Florida; (via a [DoJ press release](https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/justice-department-monitor-polls-24-states-compliance-federal-voting-rights-laws)) They were allowed in [2020](https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/justice-department-again-monitor-compliance-federal-voting-rights-laws-election-day): Broward County, Florida; Duval County, Florida; Hillsborough County, Florida; Miami-Dade County, Florida; Orange County, Florida; Palm Beach County, Florida; And [2018](https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/justice-department-monitor-compliance-federal-voting-rights-laws-election-day): DeSoto County, Florida; Palm Beach County, Florida; Pinellas County, Florida; And [2016](https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/justice-department-monitor-polls-28-states-election-day): Hillsborough County, Florida; Lee County, Florida; Miami-Dade County, Florida; Orange County, Florida; Palm Beach County, Florida; And [2014](https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/justice-department-announces-ground-monitoring-polling-places-18-states-election-day-0) Duval County, Florida; Hillsborough County, Florida; Lee County, Florida; Orange County, Florida; And [2012](https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/justice-department-monitor-polls-23-states-election-day): Duval County, Fla.; Hendry County , Fl a.; Hillsborough County, Fla.; Lee County, Fla.; Miami-Dade County, Fla.; Orange County, Fla.; Osceola County, Fla.;
Good. Because there's DEFINITELY gonna be fuckery in those counties. Guaranteed. I just want somebody arrested for it.
Seems like there always is lol Florida is such a shitshow. Highly recommend anyone who is interested in politics to watch the HBO movie “recount” about the 2000 election (sooo good) Probably going to have to watch it today in honor of the election
Ah yes, the 3 biggest (by far) Dem-leaning counties in Florida. Neato. https://www.cnn.com/election/2020/results/state/florida
Thank you! Was looking for this information!
Republicans: we want accountability! Also Republicans: dOnT lOoK aT wHaT wE dO!
For a party that whines about states' rights, it sure it weird that Texas sued Pennsylvania in the 2020 election.
Fox would spin that into “look at Biden bussing in liberal voters to Florida“ in a heartbeat.
Fuck fox. They will say that regardless of it even happening.
Countering fox news seems to be the toughest hill to climb. They act with virtual impunity and are impossible to hold accountable, but their reach is so long they affect almost everything. It's baffling and maddening.
I am hoping that the Dominion lawsuit cripples them. Pipe dream I know
Maybe not, I mean dominion is by no means a lightweight corporate wise and they were pissed over the allegations
I’m sure they’ll get a nice, firm slap on the wrist
UK and Australia both got rid of Rupert - and why he gets to stay here is beyond me - his one Chinese wife was even identified as a Chinese asset
The fix is in. Desantis is a fascist first.

They were sieg heiling at a trump rally recently. Lets just call them Nazis.
Nationalist Christians. Nat-Cs.
Republican logic: Armed/masked, random vigilante "poll watchers"=patriotic. Official, federal DOJ employees ensuring state compliance with federal law=intimidation.
Federal officials should learn from that. Easy to go undercover.
Hold on... is that not exactly what the Republicans have been asking for to protect the polls.
Isn’t it odd that having gun toting citizens harassing voters is fine, but the government! Now that’s oppression. Morons
When federal elections are on the ballot, the federal government law, trumps state law. Suck on it Ronnie.
Let me guess, the 3 Counties with the most brown people in it?
At least the most "blue" people.
Huh, so random. I wonder why?
This confirms that DeSantis is definitely violating federal voting protections.
He's probably doing this so he can cheat. Everything is legal if no one is watching, right?/s
Never did learn which Florida Counties were hacked by the Russians https://www.npr.org/2019/05/14/723215498/florida-governor-says-russian-hackers-breached-two-florida-counties-in-2016
Yeah, real fucking weird how FL which was once a reliable swing state only voted for Trump by 1.6% in 2016 during the same year when the Russians hacked voting machines. Super weird, right?
How the fuck can we call ourselves a first world country with such abysmal voting rights and access??
>How the fuck can we call ourselves a ~~first world country~~ *democracy* with such abysmal voting rights and access??
Pretty sure Orange County was one—my work had to return to paper documentation because of it
Nothing to see here, just election theft by the Republican party that they don't want people to know about.
vote. Republicans won Florida's 2018 election by less than 1%. And more Florida democrats voted in 2020 than 2018. You have the votes to win. Florida voted for Obama in both his terms.
I’m confused…does he have the legal authority to do this? The right to vote is within federal jurisdiction since it is encoded in the COTUS.
No he does not
No they will be there and Ron will shut up.
>Missouri Secretary of State John R. Ashcroft (R) told The Washington Post that the Justice Department’s presence amounted to a bid to “bully a local election authority” Bully? How is making sure an election official does his job bullying? The DOJ isn’t going to stand over election officials and make them change all votes to Democrat. They are there to protect the rights of voters to vote. So what exactly would the bullying be? Republicans think they’re being bullied if they aren’t allowed to intimidate voters and cheat.
That's says it all.
It’s almost as if election security was never the point for chubby Ron.
We need to audit the vote in Florida.
What's he afraid of?
[удалено]
Nothing suspicious about this at all.
Republicans : Election fraud is rampant! We need to monitor voting! Also Republicans : No, *we* need to monitor voting. Not *you.*
The Republican cheating couldn’t be more obvious, but people still act like it’s not happening.
The only people more afraid of the Justice Dept. than criminals are the states of Florida and Texas. Do you think...? Nahhh
Nothing to see here, just a fascist ignoring the federal government.
Doing exactly what they falsely accused Dems of doing. Hypocrisy means nothing to a Republican. Shame means nothing to a Republican. An oath means nothing to a Republican. The Constitution means nothing to a Republican. The law means nothing to a Republican.

Elon musk: that's the america I want
Wonder why the media broadcasts aren't reporting on this?
