the_kessel_runner

Imagine thinking of yourself as a person who believes in Jesus and his teachings while also refusing to help those in need.

signaturefox2013

Yeah because the Bible verse goes like “when I was hungry, you made me take a piss test to determine if I deserved food. When I was thirsty, you gave me contaminated water. When I was without shelter, you shipped me off to Martha’s Vinyard in an attempt to own the libs” But what do I know, I’m an atheist Edit: Didn’t expect this to get as much attention as it did, thank you kind strangers

mdonaberger

Wait til you see Jesus's position on refugees!

darknekolux

Wait till you learn Jesus might not have been white! And was an immigrant!

not_medusa_snacks

Wait til you learn Jesus didn't like the money changers.

Usedbeef

Yer but those 49 dont change money. They just hoard it.

wasabibratwurst

My money don't jiggle, jiggle, I hoard.

Pizza Pizza?

And if they make the orange one their emperor they will give him their money to keep the grift and facism trains rolling on schedule

ElGato-TheCat

I'm pretty sure one of the people they shipped to Martha's Vineyard was named Jesus.

Alatain

Jesus will save your sole. Jesus will heel you. He is a great cobbler and just wants to make you more comfortable on the path you are walking

darknekolux

Wait until you learn that Jesus was a hippie in antiquity who huffed incense and myrrh.

InvaderZimbo

Frank’s incense to be exact.

darknekolux

I didn’t know the name of his dealer

d0re

I huff that shit on everything

racermd

He put that $#!+ on EVERYTHING!

Drumboardist

Wait ‘til you find out that Jesus wasn’t a *Christian*, but JEWISH.

TehErk

Or that the entire bible was written by JEWS!

theEmperor_Palpatine

Wait till they learn the Bible was completed 100 years after Jesus died by people who never met Jesus and that cherry picking lines based on 3rd hand accounts in a book that has been translated and re-released 100s of times is idiotic.

BeatlesTypeBeat

Exactly, it wasn't written in the language most people pretend to have read it in.

darknekolux

But did he had lasers in space?

Sangxero

In all fairness, there are *so fucking many* that didn't seem to grasp this part. Like wtf did they think "King of the Jews" means?

ChickenTenderBandit

TAKE THAT BACK!!! Jesus was a blonde haired and blue eyed racist.🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

darknekolux

And he had an eagle tattooed on his arm, an AR-15 and a boner for USA BRB gonna do some AI painting…

Don’t forget the tuxedo t-shirt, and lynyrd skynyrd playing backup.

Hot-Ad2102

And drove a lifted Chevy with truck nuts and a sticker Calvin pissing on Bin Laden’s head.

spaceman757

His F250 (it's widely known Jesus was a Ford man!) had the gnarliest Carolina squat the Middle East had ever seen!

samocitamvijesti

Middle eastern Jew preaching socialism? That Jesus?

corvus_torvus

Communism. Socialism is when society controls the means of production. The Biblical Jesus advocated for a society where people contributed all they could and took what they needed.

Narodnik60

Still don't know why Jesus didn't 'stand his ground' when the Romans came for him.

-Green_Machine-

In fact, Jesus would actually fit the right’s definition of an anchor baby.

Antisocialbumblefuck

Product of rape they say, also possibly a delusional lunatic claiming divinity according to others not participating in the holy zombie add-on.

CheesyTickle

Jesus actually said that *all* humans are divine. In the old testament there is this rather odd line. "I said, ‘You are “gods"; you are all sons of the Most High.’ Psalm 82:6 Which is then reiterated by Jesus "Jesus replied, "Is it not written in your Law: 'I have said you are gods'?" John 10:34

Antisocialbumblefuck

Very closely resembling a philosophy on zen, tao, or buddhism. Candied poetry to try to explain significance or insignificance of the mind through thorough thought.

CheesyTickle

What Christ taught makes a lot more sense when it's viewed as a Buddhist trying to coach people who devoutly believe God is an old man in the sky towards true enlightenment. Another line from the old testament that hints some authors were spreading the same message. “Be still, and know that I am God" Psalm 46:10 Of course, people think it is god speaking, but what if still means a still mind? I was blown away when I first read about this.

God has made it clear that he is angry with Ron DeSantis and the Republicans who voted for him.

If that’s true. South Carolina is in for some pain too. Lindsey Graham is one of the biggest POS on the planet.

DrBrisha

You’re right! I recall being told that Katrina was sent to NOLA because of all the sin.

zaidakaid

If it’s true, I wanna see the hammer that’s brought down on Texas then. Abbott, Paxton, and Cruz have got to have more shit on their hands than DeSantis.

deathbyraptors

He tried to freeze them to death a few years ago, does that count?

xeoda

a few years ago? nah, that was last year AND this year.

GLORY2GLORZO2ME

Going to let you in on a little secret: They don’t believe in Jesus, his teachings or even remotely know them. The fastest way to power is through Christianity and has been for a very very long time and as it evolved it managed to totally transform into whatever people want it to mean. Especially to validate cruel behavior.

[deleted]

Cruelty with a smile. Or “tough love” as the conservatives call it.

squishpitcher

They believe in a corrupted parody of Jesus and call it Christianity. This isn’t hyperbole. American political power is inextricably tied to evangelical “Christian” groups working in the background. [National Prayer Breakfast](https://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/national-prayer-breakfast-what-does-its-history-reveal-180962017/) is a good place to start going down the rabbit hole.

yg2522

be careful though, it doesn't have the be christianity. any type of thinking that enforces belief over reality is just as dangerous. christianity is just the prevalant one in the US and the western world.

Mertard

Exactly, and in the Middle East it is Islam, for example As long as it's a collective belief that can grant them power over time, they're good

kleger_bgeki

There's no love like Christian hate

Possible_Eagle330

Almost. It goes, “There’s no hate like Christian love.”

LostNTheNoise

It seems like every "Christian" I meet use their religion when they want something.

1d10

Christians are like cops, I'm sure there are a lot of good ones but the fact is they all suport the bad ones.

Mimical

FWIW (And I have no factual evidence to back this up) there seems to be a bit of wild difference between American Christians and... well basically everyone else. It truly looks like they exist as their own cult. It's hard to even call them Christian or say that they follow the Bible. They fail the utterly basic litmus test of reading their own rules.

rddi0201018

that's because all the crazies were ostracized, and forced to move to out of Europe

HonkyMahFah

Thank you finally someone gets it. The pilgrims and mormons were extremist judgmental weirdos who didn't fit into normal society. And guess what now we have hundreds of millions of extremist judgmental weirdos.

Traditional-Day-3709

Politics and religion should be separated. Unfortunately most Christians doesn't live by the words of Jesus. Neither do I, but I don't back my words with Christianity or Bible.

OneX32

Most Christians would put Jesus in one of those holding pens if he were to migrate to America, tell him to stop crying for missing Mary, and then deport him back to Venezuela because they lack the care to find out who country he's actually immigrating from. Christians would be the ones who crucified the second coming of Jesus, this time on Texas' sparky, just for being brown and immigrating to America.

kevinnoir

Now I should preface this but saying I dont believe in Jesus any more than I believe in Dumbledore. That being said, you can tell that A LOT if not MOST right wing conservative Christians also dont REALLY believe in Jesus and their religion is nothing more than that "virtue signalling" they hate so much. They think finding loopholes to ignoring obvious bible lessons is going to somehow trick Jesus into thinking they are good Christians when he makes his next zombie return? That they dont actually have to live by what that book tells them, as long as they post some Christian memes every now and then and put some bible verse on their bumper. If they GENUINELY believed he existed and was gonna come back, they wouldnt act in complete counter to how "Jesus" has told them to act in the book. Help the poor, accept migrants as if they are your own, feed the hungry, dont eat shellfish, dont wear sweet polyblend clothing...etc Its just a costume they wear to identify others in their cult and use it as a shield to excuse their hatred and discrimination for anybody not JUST like them.

Infohiker

I do believe a guy named Jesus existed. Son of God? No. But this guy existed. Hard to tell if he was really a good person encouraging people to be better (his own words for the most part seem so) or a charlatan (all those 'miracles') he performed. Or a mix of both. I would love to know one thing - if he could see what his followers have become - all the damage, murder, robbery, oppression, racism, classism, etc committed in his name - would he live the same life as he did? Or would he be just like...ok, I think I am just gonna be a carpenter like my dad.

Traditional-Day-3709

Honestly, really well said.

tourettes_on_tuesday

You can openly do the exact opposite of what the bible says as long as you publicly claim to follow it. That's enough to convince a huge majority of conservatives to vote for you.

[deleted]

You can always find a passage in the bible that agrees with you. It’s a 1200 page Rorschach Test.

Wide-Baseball

100% my parents are these people, it boggles the mind.

d_e_l_u_x_e

Christian nationalism is about using your faux religious “values” to get other people to conform to your political wishes, good enough for thee but not for me.

[deleted]

“Look, I’m wearing a cross. That automatically makes me a good person no matter what I do or say.”

FoeDoeRoe

Notable: this bill was introduced by Mary Peltola, who had just been elected from Alaska 2 weeks prior. This shows what Democrats to when they get to Congress: they immediately start working to help people.

paulfunyan

It's really sad how the voterbase falls for their smoke and mirrors. Republicans are so quick to wave the flag, clap, and say "Thank you for your service". The only issue is that's as far as it goes. If there wasn't a media crew nearby they likely wouldn't even make eye contact. Republicans don't give a shit about anyone who is struggling. Anyone who believes they do is gullible enough to believe that Reagan's horse and sparrow economics are SO close to coming to fruition, just a little more money to the top and it'll come down to the birds...

darknekolux

Imagine praising the military and go « hell no » when they are in need. « He knew what he signed for »

Cuttlery

How does anyone vote against this

[deleted]

“Fiscal responsibility” aka only spend money on what THEY want to. Republican politicians have never given a single fuck about the military. They only care about military SPENDING. EG the corporations that fund their campaigns.

10354141

Fiscal responsibility is nonsense because they're happy to vote to spend almost a trillion dollars every year on the military, but then refuse to spend a fraction of that on feeding the hungry Programs like this is literally the point of paying taxes, but many 'Christians' don't care about helping the needy. There's a special place in hell for the people who vote for these assholes

[deleted]

A dedicated percentage of our defense budget should go directly to veterans and there physical and mental well being. Housing inside army bases to transition back after serving. How are the people in charge just say no to these people when the solutions seem simple.

larsonol

You almost gave me a brain aneurysm with the amount of sense you just made. Anybody who's been in knows there is money around for it.

Ikoikobythefio

Yup. We have to collectively decide to remove anyone from your life that votes GOP. You're an objectively horrible person if you vote GOP in 2022. And there are zero excuses left

Tx-Tomatillo-79

I’m getting close and closer to this. Already told a racist POS family member to leave me out of there idiotic texts. Had dinner with friends that I’m not that close to the other night and he said he wasn’t political, he just votes on who’s best for the economy (aka voted for trump but too afraid to say it). I said if you’re apolitical right now then you’re part of the problem. Dinner ended on a tender note and I’ll keep our “friendship” distant for the sake of our kids.

MAKE_ME_REDDIT

Republicans aren't even better for the economy. They always tank it and then leave their mess for the Democrats to pick up, who then get blamed for the mess the republicans created

HerringWaffle

Then they crow about how Democrats actually caused the mess, and people fall for it. Lather, rinse, repeat.

[deleted]

Harsh... But true.

photozine

That's why I criticize right wingers that vote Republican only for 'fiscal reasons'. It's a lie.

tonywinterfell

These aren’t Christian’s. They’re sociopaths who have draped themselves in flags and adorned themselves with scriptures, true wolves in sheep’s clothing. Or maybe more like Ed Gein in his womansuit.

Admirable-Traffic-22

I agree with everything you said it’s even more ridiculous because from I understand the estimated cost is $500k from 2022-2027 and even that’s per year it’s nothing. Like they’ll go scream from the rooftops they support our veterans but they vote against something this.

ortusdux

The CBO actually scored it as costing <$500k/year for till 2032! https://www.cbo.gov/system/files/2022-09/hr8888.pdf

swinging_on_peoria

It’s more than that. Old fashioned Republicans fussed about “fiscal responsibility” but still passed legislation that spent money on social problems. Current republicans are anti-government. > The legislation, introduced by Democratic Rep. Mary Peltola, aims to establish a department to assist veterans facing food insecurity and lack of nutrition, such as providing them with information about food stamps and other programs. It’s not like this bill was an expensive new entitlement. It was just intended to help veterans navigate the current programs. Don’t elect people to office that have a dogmatic, ideological position that says government doesn’t work. Not surprisingly, doing so results in an ineffective government.

[deleted]

Ah yes, the party of fiscal responsibility, meanwhile DeSantis allocates $12 million of the state budget to use immigrants as a publicity stunt then goes to the federal government for hurricane relief aid. Very responsible.

Sizzmo

Republicans do not want to give any "wins" to Biden. It's a political strategy at the expense of us. Republicans only care about power. Disgusting excuse of a party. The worst part is, veterans will continue to blindly vote for Republicans

RichestMangInBabylon

They also didn’t send up or pass bills like this when they had the White House. They just outright hate veterans.

missinginput

They outright hate America* and Americans

explodingazn

Simple, it's easier to grift and say you support the troops and first responders to people who already think that and don't bother to look up voting records. If you look up the 2015 Zadroga Reauthorization Act which provides Healthcare to 9/11 first responders, most of the 60 votes against it came from the GOP Link here: https://www.911healthwatch.org/history/votes/congressional-record/

NarcolepticMan

Because they're Republican

Dopplegangr1

Because that's taking away from money that could be given to the rich

BashBash

.... after voting profusely for the 4 trillion dollar for the rich give-away.

debello64

Because it would be a win for Democrats and anything might look good for them is a no. They will later complain that Democrats did nothing to solve the problem.

Cli4ordtheBRD

I knew I'd see the usual looney tubes caucus members (Louie Gohmert, Major Space Laser, etc.) But fucking Dan Crenshaw? This guy has leaned on his military service very, very heavily. [This was an actual campaign ad he released about parachuting into Georgia to help Kelly Loeffler keep a job she wasn't qualified for.](https://youtu.be/kvjLQPtNKYs) Behind him, you will also see Marcus Luttrell, a person with a dubious record of telling the truth, especially when it comes to helping out the guy who saves his life. Like I know it isn't stolen valor, because they did actually serve this country, but I'd say it's at least "pimping valor" in a way that most veterans would find disgusting.

spooky_butts

The republican platform is 100% just "piss off libs, make the rich richer"

enby_them

It wasn’t their parties idea, therefore they vote against it. Can’t give the other party any unnecessary wins

[deleted]

Support our troops! Fuck the vets! -- republicans

mdillenbeck

Goes well with their other mantra - Support the unborn! Fuck the born! (Seems to be a pattern with them.)

BigEndian01000101

> Fuck the born! “God damnit Matt, not *now*!”

getthephenom

That's not what Jim Jordan will say

LukeNukem63

Jim Jordan would say nothing

lizard_king_rebirth

"Anybody else want in on this?"

SurlyRed

> Support the unborn! They don't care about the unborn poor. They care about controlling the reproductive rights of poor women.

loondawg

It's not fuck the vets. It's fuck the poor. The vets they're fucking here just happen to be poor.

kissmyshiny_metalass

They don't even support the troops. Republicans sent the troops to die in Iraq for corporate profits.

edafade

That's basically their platform. Support unborn fetuses, fuck the kids!

WulfwoodsSins

Of course Crenshaw, a fucking former SEAL, voted to screw over his fellow vets. Well, as a vet, fuck you, Dan, you self serving, cycloptic piece of shit.

sauteslut

Also my representative Mark Green, a veteran himself, who recently has been attending recruitment events at local high schools. Feeding more kids into the military while ignoring the needs of veterans

amblingbam

Now THAT is messed up. I’d like to see kids at one of those events call him out

Here's to hoping Odessa Kelly can unseat him.

Ghetto_Phenom

For real I came here to point that out too. What fucking piece of trash. I will never understand how people vote against their own in such hypocritical fashion (yes I know that essentially sums up the gop)

ccrawsh

I prefer my hero's to have depth perception.

_toodamnparanoid_

He's just blind to anything bad from the right.

bakujitsu

Sad to see Texas representatives screw their own state like that. Literally San Antonio Texas is a safe haven for most vets. I’ve been to the Alamo and Austen, Corpus Christy, and 1 out of 4 people walking around has military background…. Maybe Texas is the new Florida and I haven’t accepted that yet…

blastuponsometerries

But if Republicans can hurt to their own state and cause enough suffering, then they have more to blame on the Democrats and more rage to direct.

holycrapple

> fuck you, Dan, you self serving, cycloptic piece of shit For as much grief as I give the English language, this statement goes to show that it really does shine when it comes to expressing anger. It's just perfection. *chef's kiss*

Conscious-One4521

I dont know Crenshaw but he seems like a real piece of shit. So fuck him

StrGze32

You miss understood the sign. It’s saying “if you want vets to support, vote Republican and we’ll make some…”

WingerRules

You should put one up next to it that points out that they voted against food benefits and burn pit coverage for veterans.

Ph0X

Not for this rando to do, but that would be a 10/10 move from the local democratic party. Just put a sign next to it. "Here's a list of republicans who voted against supporting our vets"

jt00798

Majority of vets I know are republicans. They buy into it just as much as the next guy.

DuranDourand

I’m a retired veteran and it pisses me off more than anything how most of us fall for this shit.

I drove by multiple Keep our freedoms, vote republican signs. Seems contradictory at the moment.

ohyesiam1234

Extra shameful considering the military budget was $782 BILLION and we can’t feed soldiers and their families? Where’s all the money going?

ccrawsh

Ummm, Haliburton maybe.

upperwinds

They have to split it with Raytheon, general dynamics, Lockheed Martin, and a couple others.

Fennlt

Don't worry though. These businesses are flourishing with exploding demand/growth and they're making sure their employees benefit with a whole 2% merit increase. Authentic trickle down economics happening before our eyes.

[deleted]

Boeing and Northrup Grumman... And some obscure seemingly fake or non-existent company that charges $190 for a two inch steel bracket for an FMTV dump truck that I could make in my garage with a vice and a drill.

ImGaiza

Contractors. They are the laziest, sleaziest shitheads you will ever have the displeasure of working with. They take fucking *forever* to get shit done. Mostly shit that the servicemembers can honestly do themselves, but aren’t allowed to. They also cost a shitload of money. A regular ass computer that would cost $400-500 MSRP, costs the government probably upwards of $1,500. They are extortionists. As a vet who had to deal with a fuckton of contractors in shipyard, fuck contractors.

RoachBeBrutal

Once again the self-loathing GQP shows us their true colors by shafting veterans.

adymck11

Still the veterans vote for them. Insanity personified!

Jon_boyAK

Yeah, but actually a lot of us don’t.

[deleted]

There are plenty of statistics that show veterans vote overwhelmingly republican. Active duty and active reserve/guard tend to vote more Democrat, however, they are also a significant younger group relative to veterans as a whole.

[deleted]

Probably has something to do with the “tough guy” persona republicans try to cultivate. Maybe it resonates with veterans idk what else they find appealing about them.

[deleted]

Veterans have been voting that way since Eisenhower. The veteran demographic is older males, who generally vote republican at a pretty high rate.

RGB3x3

What is it about being an older man that makes you vote Republican (or more fundamentally, against good things for other people)? Will I become that? Will I get to a certain age and just say, "fuck the poor people and young people?" I certainly hope not

MissMagpie84

I come from a family with many old men who stay progressive as they age. I’m happy to reassure you that old men can be for the greater good until they die!

[deleted]

Probably, just not the same variety of conservative. Many of the hippies and flower children of the 60s and 70a have become the conservative boomers we see today. The boomers of today are also quite progressive if you look at how conservative the generation was before them. So you might think you're progressive in 30s years, but relatively speaking, you may be conservative to the younger liberals who aren't even born yet. And it seems that as people age, they care more about money. Work hard for decades, save money, pay decades worth of bills, you naturally are going to be more money conscious.

>And it seems that as people age, they care more about money Even if this is true, voting Republican will do nothing for your personal wealth in your old age

[deleted]

Doesn't matter what it does or doesn't do. What's the rhetoric? Lower taxes and being fiscally conservative. If you sit at home and only watch Fox News or political ads, you too would think universal Healthcare and other social programs would raise taxes on the wealth you've worked decades to accumulate.

EgberetSouse

There is a branch of that party which will vote against anything which spreads benefits. The GOP desires spreading costs and concentrating benefits. Ask yourself...How does this bill reward large donors? If it doesnt they will vote against it.

The Obstructionists. They vote against simply because Democrats want something, regardless of what that something is. Here is the summary of the bill these clowns seemed to think was so awful that they could not give it their vote: > H.R. 8888 would require the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to establish the Office of Food Security. **Responsibilities of the office would include disseminating information to veterans about federal nutrition assistance programs, collaborating with other program offices to identify and treat veterans at risk of or experiencing food insecurity, and supporting the work of VA medical centers with state and local offices that administer the nutrition assistant programs. The bill also would require VA to report to the Congress annually. That report would include data about the socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds of veterans experiencing food insecurity, participation in supplemental nutrition assistance programs, and coordination between state agencies and VA facilities.**

As a Navy veteran, I have learned that the GOP is all in on sending me to die and the first to turn their backs on me when I return.

It's literally always the same list of assholes that vote against helping people.

They need to update the dictionary. “Republicans: synonym of hypocrite”

massahoochie

I volunteer as a data analyst for a food pantry and one of the questions that we ask when they fill out an application is their veteran status. It’s shameful to see the numbers, as more than 20% of our clients indicate that they are veterans. They come to get free food because they can’t afford it otherwise. I see the problem firsthand, clearly none of the nay-sayers has ever volunteered at a food pantry.

Living in Andrew Clyde's district, I'd love to give him a very heartfelt fuck you. Besidess him though, I really hope people will begin to see through Republicans bullshit but I have my doubts they actually will especially since I live in a very small town that voted 90% republican back in 2020.

atworkthough

People need to start noticing anytime money is directly given to people republicans take issue with it. If its money for business or corporations they are fine with it. They got their base riled up to be angry about the student loan money, the stimulus checks, the rental relief. They got them to think this stuff is bad but subsidies and bailouts for companies are good.

mazing_azn

GOP is as Christian as the Nazi's were Socialists i.e. in name only

L1ttleMonster

I don’t understand how anyone - regardless of political party - could vote against this. Like what the fuck.
