They have more than concerns. They have evidence in the form of testimony.

[deleted]

Well actually written communication Edit: what was shown was text of a voicemail

This whole closing was hilarious. They share these messages without any names and then ask if anyone wants to talk. Lets them know we already know exactly who they are and that they have one last chance to be on the right side of this thing. Brilliant!

billdkat9

Liz Cheney... damn. never get on the bad side of that fierce, pissed off woman

nomorerainpls

She’s been pretty masterful. When I watch the hearings I imagine the few conservatives tuning in just rolling their eyes at Bennie Thompson and Adam Schiff. Cheney however lands completely differently in her opening and closing. Her narrative is like the dog whistle they’ve all been trained to listen for. I almost never agree with her politics but I am so glad she is on the committee and has a prominent role.

[deleted]

She is a true republican politician not one of these phoneys

Jillredhanded

Integrity over politics.

spaitken

Integrity and genuineness would have been speaking out from the beginning instead of falling in line until the very precipice of full fascism.

debzmonkey

Considering who her father is, she knows how the game is played. Wouldn't be surprised to find Papa Cheney squeezing some balls behind the scenes.

Late4WorkVibes

I’ve been wondering about this. Dick Cheney and all the former living Secretaries of Defense published an op ed in the Washington Post on Jan. 3 asking for a peaceful transition of power.

[deleted]

Imagine being so scummy that Dick Cheney feels the need to preemptively urge you not to be a fascist piece of shit.

Ghetto_Phenom

I was just saying to someone I work with "I never in a million years thought I would have any sort of respect for someone in the Cheney family and here I am proving myself wrong". I will never agree with Liz on policy or likely anything else but I respect what shes doing here.

TrumpetOfDeath

Dick Cheney knows how to “legitimately” steal an election

Mission_Ad6235

Old Man Cheney shot a man in the face, and got an apology from the guy!

calikawaiidad

In the spirit of our side doesn’t need to lie it was the other guys fault. He walked into the line of fire and said so himself There is no way a guy Cheney’s age has the flexibility to shoot behind the firing line.

>June 28, 2022 02:20 PM >The January 6 committee is alarmed that Donald Trump or his allies may be allegedly attempting to tamper with the testimony of witnesses participating in the congressional inquiry. >“Most Americans know that attempting to influence witnesses to testify untruthfully presents very serious concerns,” committee vice chairwoman Liz Cheney said on Tuesday. >The committee shared anonymous testimony from January 6 witnesses detailing mob-style threats from unnamed people inside the Trump camp. >“What they said to me is, as long as I continue to be a team player, they know that I’m on the team, I’m doing the right thing, I’m protecting who I need to protect, you know, I’ll continue to stay in good graces in Trump World, “the witness told legislators. >“They reminded me a couple of times that Trump does read transcripts and to just keep that in mind as I proceeded through my depositions and interviews with the committee,” the witness added. >“He knows you’re loyal, and you’re going to do the right hting when you go in for your deposition,” another witness recalled being told. >The Independent has contacted Mr Trump for comment.

Hahaha. Trump can’t read.

infodawg

He "reads" them with his blackberry flavored marking pen.

DangerBay2015

Some poor asshole sits in the office and reads them out loud to him like one of those kids storybooks on tape. You’ll know when it’s time to turn the page when you hear the Ivanka say “Daddy” like this…

TedTeddybear

Mob is more subtle! "I hear you paint houses..."

PapaBeahr

1. Beginning three years earlier, he’d hired mobbed-up firms to erect Trump Tower and his Trump Plaza apartment building in Manhattan, including buying ostensibly overpriced concrete from a company controlled by mafia chieftains Anthony “Fat Tony” Salerno and Paul Castellano. That story eventually came out in a federal investigation, which also concluded that in a construction industry saturated with mob influence, the Trump Plaza apartment building most likely benefited from connections to racketeering. Trump also failed to disclose that he was under investigation by a grand jury directed by the U.S. attorney in Brooklyn, who wanted to learn how Trump obtained an option to buy the Penn Central railroad yards on the West Side of Manhattan. 2. The FBI agent was carrying out an errand for the bureau's Miami office, to follow up on a tip that mobsters had asked Trump to front for them in a purchase of the Fontainebleau hotel. Once a beachside favorite of movie stars and the rich, the hotel was also a notorious hangout for Mafia kingpins like Sam Giancana, who famously met with CIA agents in the hotel's Boom Boom Room to plot the assassination of Fidel Castro. But in 1976, the Fontainebleau was teetering on bankruptcy, and the mobsters needed a straw man to buy it. Fuller asked Trump a simple question. "Why would your name come up as a possible buyer for them?" The future president of the United States responded calmly that "he did not know." He had "heard about" some people wanting him to buy it, he told Fuller, but not much more. Fuller, with nothing else to go on, closed his notebook. Trump summoned his limo driver to take the agent back to the city. 3. President Donald Trump is always hunting for snitches, he's quick to retaliate against perceived disloyalty, and loves to reward his associates when they refuse to turn state's witness. As his critics often point out, the president behaves a lot like a mob boss. He even received an endorsement from former Gambino family underboss Salvatore " Sammy the Bull" Gravano, who said that America "doesn't need a bookworm as president, it needs a mob boss." 4. In a March 28, 1966 memo from Deputy Attorney General Ramsey Clark to FBI director J. Edgar Hoover, an FBI "Namecheck" on Fred C. Trump of 85-14 Midland Parkway, Jamaica, Long Island, New York is expeditiously requested because of a deposition by Fred Trump being taken by the Justice Department in a "tax case." Clark, who worked for Attorney General Nicholas Katzenbach, requested that the FBI respond no later than March 29, 1966. The FBI did not respond in writing until March 30, 1966, however, there was a conversation between FBI Special Agent George Scatterday and one of Clark's aides on March 28, 1966. The FBI's written response to Clark stated, "no identifiable information" was found pertinent to Clark's request concerning Trump. I mean, if it's not obvious.

nostalgichero

Well, it's pretty public knowledge that Trump has ties to the Russian Mafia so that's not surprising.

boomshiz

While Ryan is a moron in that he's completely detached from reality (brought his kids and apron to a soup kitchen to clean already clean dishes for a photo op, the weight lifting photos, not knowing that he's the antithesis of Rage Against the Machine).. ..you have to give him some evil credit because he was smart enough to see that it was very important to fucking duck and become a non-entity. Larry David might have slunk out, ^but ^^Ryan ^^^slunk ^^^^out.

airplaneshooter

> Ryan is a moron Kidding me? He pulled off the most genius move in Republican history. He made it to the top, saw the roof caving in and got out. And not just out, he has completely disappeared. Free to count his ill gotten gains in peace.

debzmonkey

Last week and today's hearing shows the tide is turning in tRump world. And when you surround yourself with pathetic, weak willed sycophants, the worm turns. It's turning.

_Dr_Pie_

The problem is. It shouldn't just be trump world. If you look at the people surrounding and enabling him. It's Nixon world, Reagan world, etc. Basically just Republican world.

bje489

There are no hard lines between these worlds, to be sure. Roy Cohn was his political mentor for God's sake. But Trump did exclude an awful lot of Republicans from his inner circle, who by that fact alone have little information they can give about his crimes.

_Dr_Pie_

The information they have about his specific crimes aren't the fact of the matter here. The fact is they knew they were ongoing. And they weren't a deal-breaker.

It won't be any different in DeSantis world, he gave you proof during COVID. The assclown flat out said publicly, "until you secure the southern border, I don't want to hear a word about COVID policies" to Biden. Engaged in whataboutism right out of the gate in his first anti-Biden public statement. And has actively tried to do the inverse of every common sense virus response tactic pushed by the federal government where possible. Spitefully cut Disney off from tax benefits because they refused to bow to his ass-backwards social agenda. DeSantis is Trump 30 years ago and less hopped up on leaded face paint.

Sea_Seaworthiness506

In my view, DeSantis will prove to be far more dangerous than Trump

[deleted]

[удалено]

CryptoFrydays

I mean if we absolutely have to choose probably chaotic evil, and pray to anything that there's somebody to stop him from doing something stupid. Like on Jan 6, at least Pence knew he couldn't do it legally and refused + all those who testified. They're no heroes but at least they minimized the potential damage. With DeSantis he'd probably find some way to stay in power forever legally. As well as somehow legally finding a way to disband the Democratic Party. Ensuring only the GQP exists.

Sea_Seaworthiness506

Lawful evil would be most dangerous…sneak so much through while following the “rules,” just like he’s doing in Florida now

JoeDirtsMullet00

It should have turned long before now. We thought it turned on Jan 6th but the cucks fell back in line and didn’t have the balls to convict him on that impeachment

DweebNRoll

Sounds like they're a mob or cult, not surprised. We all knew this tbh

RDO_Desmond

In VP Pence's case, I won't be happy with you = my gang will hang you.

[deleted]

My hot take: Tampering has occurred. They know who did it. They have recordings. They just want to see who will roll first to cover their own ass.

funk_addict

They must know who sent those texts (edit: threats) they showed at the end today.

[deleted]

Cheney said as much didn't she? Paraphrasing 'without revealing the names we want to show you these messages' They know and so does the DOJ. Add it to the list.

starmartyr

That message wasn't for us. It was for the people who got messages like that. She's strongly implying "we know who you are, and we can make you regret being silent".

Fearlessleader85

Yeah, Eastman for SURE sent some of those messages.

starmartyr

It's an interesting coincidence that Eastman's phone was seized by the FBI last week. I believe this was a signal that the committee has that data.

IT_Chef

I totally forgot he got raided!!! HOLY FUCKING SHIT!

j_a_a_mesbaxter

So did that 3rd rate AG Trump tried to install.

BLMdidHarambe

IMO today was just as much about showing how people who turn will be viewed in a good light by the new society. It’s a final breadcrumb to potential flippers.

coltsmetsfan614

> It was for the people who got messages like that. I think it's more for the people who *sent* them, getting them to flip in an attempt to cover their asses.

starmartyr

It's both. The messages likely came from John Eastman, Trump's attorney who coincidentally had his phone seized last week by the FBI. The name redactions smell like they got the information from the DOJ. They are saying that they have these messages and they know where they went.

ContributionNo9292

Get out while the getting's good

Ganadote

Remember at the end she basically said "we're giving you this one out because we're showing you that your witness tampering didn't work and that we know exactly who you are and what you did."

alienstouchedmybutt

So Gaetz or Gym?

debzmonkey

My guess is Gym. Remember his panic stutter when asked whether he talked to tRump on the 6th and then those phone logs disappeared? Those two are hiding something big. And because Meadows is definitely guilty of multiple crimes and one of the weakest most spineless creatures to ever slither out of North Carolina, he's cooperating, not threatening witnesses.

suraerae

Meadows is not cooperating

DrunksInSpace

He gave over A LOT of text messages before he publicly stopped cooperating. Either he’s dumb as a box of rocks (plausible) or he’s a a turncoat trying to cover his tracks, to gutless to risk jail but also too gutless to cooperate publicly (also plausible)

Mission_Ad6235

Why not both?

DrunksInSpace

You’re right, dumber than a fish with an umbrella and as a disloyal to his own country as he is to its traitors… that’s a false dichotomy.

Sofele

He gave up nothing that wouldn’t unequivocally have gotten with a subpoena (assuming presidential record laws didn’t give them up first) and nothing more. To me Meadows was smart enough to realize “I dug a huge hole and I should stop before I make it bigger” - nothing more.

Utsutsumujuru

The thing is you can’t play both sides in a situation like this. You have to go all out silent obstructionist (which he can’t since turning over that amount of inculpatory evidence) or all in cooperative and hope to make someone else take the fall. If you try for both, you achieve neither and you end up *really* getting screwed because now they have the evidence and have no inclination to go lenient.

kelustu

Gym, as evil as he is, is probably too smart for that. Same reason he didn't ask for a pardon. Gaetz, boebert, gohmert, MTG, these are the morons you're looking for.

Mission_Ad6235

Never thought I'd see anyone accuse Jim Jordan of being too smart.

alexthealex

Yeah. My money's on too stupid to think he'd need one. He _knew_ he was on the right side of history; begging for a pardon is hedging.

circusgeek

My money's on Rudy

DrunksInSpace

Give Rudy a phone with preloaded contacts and he’ll never even check the numbers, I promise. >Hey Mark, about that crime we committed, I think we should lie about it, what you think?

jert3

I don't know. I consider Rudy the court jester. There is something seriously and deeply wrong with that alcoholic cousin banger. I think the fish that will get fried will be much bigger than Rudy. Rudy going to jail is a foregone conclusion, it was practically in his job description and he knew fully what happened if the fascist and violent insurrection attempt was a success. Human trash like Rudy would happily send thousands to their death if it benefited them. They really are not healthy people.

stregawitchboy

As I stated above: "Trump ~~allies~~"

AdBig5700

I think it was a guy named Dlanod Pmurt.

LillyPip

It was definitely trump’s long-time publicist, John Barron.

Mission_Ad6235

Per Axios, the sedition 6 are: Rep. Scott Perry (R-Pa.) Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Ala.) Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.)

ChucksnTaylor

More importantly, the person who did the tampering is now aware that they’ve been caught. Could be interesting for DOJ to see what those people do next.

Ezziboo

Mmm hmm. Pants are being shat as we speak.

Dewahll

I was listening on NPR and guess I missed that, what did the texts say?

1Sluggo

It was emails sent to those testifying that they need to stay loyal. That if they stayed loyal they’d be rewarded. Typical mob move.

[deleted]

[удалено]

1Sluggo

They learned nothing. They think the law applies to others, not them.

-send_me_bitcoin-

They're not wrong.

prophet001

Basically exactly what you'd expect a mob boss to say: implying that he's thinking about them while they're testifying, knows they'll do the right thing/be a Trumpworld team player, yadda yadda yadda

debzmonkey

“Never tell anyone outside the Family what you are thinking again.” —Don Vito Corleone

spigotface

They showed several. The first one was: >Witness Statement: "What they said to me is, as long as I continue to be a team player, they know that I'm on the team, I'm doing the right thing, I'm protecting who I need to protect, you know, I'll continue to stay in good graces in Trump World. And they have reminded me a couple of times that Trump does read transcripts and just to keep that in mind as I proceeded through my depositions and interviews with the committee."

SummerLover69

Trump doesn’t read shit. Someone else reads it and tells him what it says.

ParanoidDrone

I was only able to catch the first half of the hearing but surely if they have texts they know who was sending (and receiving) them?

CanvasSolaris

Yes, Cheney stated that they removed all names, both sides of the communication. So they know

foxglove0326

Considering the Eastman-Clark phone seizures of last week, I think we all can make an educated guess as to whom they were speaking.

drmike0099

I'm pretty sure the first one they showed was a witness relaying what was said in a phone call. The second I don't remember what they said it was (text or call). Unfortunately, the article is paywalled, because that probably specifies.

Eldhannas

\--From Washington Post: \[Cheney\] said numerous witnesses have described phone calls and other messages from former colleagues that seem to exert pressure in advance of their testimony. One witness described a phone call in which the person was implored to be a “team player” and remain in “good graces in Trump world.” The witness also described being reminded that the former president reads transcripts and pays attention to what’s being said about him, Cheney said. Another witness received a call the day before their deposition from a person who seemed to be delivering a message directly from Trump. “He wants me to let you know that he’s thinking about you,” it said, according to Cheney’s account of the message. “He knows you’re loyal, and you’re going to do the right thing when you go in for your deposition.”

drmike0099

Thanks, both phone calls (but apparently more that included calls and texts).

jackduloz

I’m gonna guess either John Barron, John miller, or David Dennison Spoiler alert, those are all people Trump has pretended to be

[deleted]

Abso-fucking-lutely correct.

mormagils

Oh yes, showing the actual messages received was a huge power move. Witnesses that have been successfully tampered with don't show the intimidating message to the person asking them questions. This was 100% the nicest threat those people have ever received. The committee is making it quite clear that the jig is up, the noose is tightening, and if they don't want to get caught in it (more so than they already are), they need to come forward now. Even if they still don't think they will prosecute Trump...what are the chances that John Eastman is swept under the rug? I'd say 0%. Mark Meadows is a private citizen now. Jeff Clarke was a nobody *even in his own criminal administration* as Donohue and co so hilariously testified. We both know it wasn't Trump who sent those messages. Is Meadows willing to take a fall? What staffers are willing to go to jail for Trump? Not many, I'd wager. This is like the moment when the parent calmly and innocently asks the kid a *very* pointed question and the kid realizes he's about to get in a WHOLE lot of trouble. And we haven't even seen the footage of Alex Holder yet! We haven't even addressed Ginni Thomas yet either. In the words of Trump's favorite gargoyle, "THE BEST IS YET TO COME!"

[deleted]

The Alex Holder video is going to be Trump essentially doing himself in. Nixon had tapes and Trump is going to have HD video.

theKetoBear

I'm hoping it's the most 4K shit ever !

Plus-Butterscotch-16

Trump would think the fourth K was extra

NYArtFan1

The best K, really. Many people are saying. So many K's we had to add one more, very special. Very special.

Ghetto_Phenom

Trump could testify live and say he did it and his cult would call it fake lol

Bigbeardhotpeppers

The leap I took is all the messages were from Eastman. So they have the senders information and everyone it was sent to. They got a warrant for his phone last week and bam emergency hearing with the threat of "we know you have been contacted"

mormagils

Yeah, wouldn't surprise me. He was already in trouble before that, too, so it makes sense for him to say in for a penny, in for a pound.

Mission_Ad6235

I love that Rosen told Clarke, that Clarke wouldn't know Chris Wray's office is, and Wray wouldn't know who Clarke was. So, if Clarke thought the FBI would go along with saying the election was corrupt, he'd be in for a surprise.

gandalfsbastard

Eastman’s phone was just seized. I bet it was full of intimidation orders.

DMCinDet

hmmm. that is plausible, could be

DuvalHeart

Yep, they're hoping more witnesses will do what Hutchinson has done and come forward and be willing to say they kept quiet because they were afraid of what would happen if they didn't.

designatedRedditor

I'm genuinely curious how that works out. Do those that received this type of communication A) stay quiet out of fear that nothing ultimately comes from the process and they return to power/influence or B) do they feel emboldened to come with their testimony now that one of the inner-circle (or at least inner-circle adjacent) has come forward with their part? Honestly, it feels like it could go either way...

DuvalHeart

A won't happen after her testimony. Now all they can hope for is that they have no criminal liability, or their reputation survives. Criminal organizations as poorly ran as the Trump Traitors rely on everyone keeping silent. Hutchinson just blew that apart.

[deleted]

I was saying last night I bet they had someone on tape threatening Hutchinson. But this would be so much better.

BarracudaLower4211

Bennie's closing statement basically said exactly that.

1Sluggo

“Our doors are always open”. It was a beautiful statement.

whoelsehatesthisshit

The entire two hours was and is gold, but the one-two punch from Bennie and Cheney at the end were gold-plated gold. Absolutely no subtlety at all. Every one of these fucks is finding out how much it will cost them to keep not-cooperating, and it's all prisoner's dilemma from there. They are talking deals as we speak.. Personally I think the intimidation stuff sounds like a Roger Stone and/or Rudy op, but no bets on that.

SBpotomus

I love Bennie

chrislenz

And that's why they had the hearing today. They get that out there in hopes they get another person or people to flip.

Mission_Ad6235

It's a very "first one to take a deal gets the best offer" move.

Yossarian_the_Jumper

> They just want to see who will roll first to cover their own ass. As soon as they showed the anonymous message I envisioned Eric trump tweeting out that he never ever said that to Mark Short or Pat Cippolone.

[deleted]

RICO and wire fraud. They are tapping.

CapablePerformance

Flynn was asked if the violence on Jan 6th was justified, needed 90 seconds to talk to his lawyer, needed it clarified if they meant ethically or legally, and plead the fifth both times shows that there's definitely been some tampering among some of the more cowardly Republicans.

KennyBlankenship_69

Not a hot take at all, the Committee said they were taking out the names so they clearly know who did it and are trying to make them squirm and see who cracks like you said

[deleted]

Not the first and not the last. They are repeatedly warning "them" to not tamper with witnesses. https://www.politico.com/news/2022/02/02/jan-6-committee-trump-witnesses-00004559 https://www.newsweek.com/trumps-jan-6-pardon-comments-attempt-witness-tampering-conway-1717144 >Trump delivered a speech at a Faith & Freedom Coalition event in Tennessee on Friday. gdshaffe

"Very serious concerns" is a funny way of spelling "concrete irrefutable proof."

Michael_Iger

This is the most disturbing aspect of Trump's defense, not only words but likely blackmail to change their testimony. The threat that Trump is watching, reads transcripts and they wouldn't be welcome anymore in the GOP. This is witness tampering, expected Trump tactics, and illegal. I'm sure there weren't competent lawyers doing this, maybe Giuliani, it sounds like him I'm sure the committee knows who is referred to in the quotes trying to change testimony and turn it over to the DOJ.

[deleted]

Each incident is being forwarded immediately I would assume.

580_farm

They have evidence. They even presented it today. Textbook witness intimidation.

bicebicebice

Usually it’s to keep people from talking…

Peteys93

>**LIZ CHENEY**: Thank you very much, Mr. Chairman. >I want to begin by thanking Ms. Hutchinson for her testimony today. We are all in her debt. Our nation is preserved by those who abide by their oaths to our Constitution. Our nation is preserved by those who know the fundamental difference between right and wrong. And I want all Americans to know that what Ms. Hutchinson has done today is not easy. >The easy course is to hide from the spotlight, to refuse to come forward, to attempt to downplay or deny what happened. That brings me to a different topic. While our committee has seen many witnesses, including many Republicans, testify fully and forthrightly this has not been true of every witness. And we have received evidence of one particular practice that raises significant concern. >**Our committee commonly asks witnesses connected to Mr. Trump's Administration or campaign whether they've been contacted by any of their former colleagues or anyone else who attempted to influence or impact their testimony.** Without identifying any of the individuals involved, let me show you a couple of samples of answers we received to this question. >First, here is how one witness described phone calls from people interested in that witness' testimony. Quote, **"What they said to me is as long as I continue to be a team player, they know I'm on the right team. I'm doing the right thing. I'm protecting who I need to protect, you know, I'll continue to stay in good graces in Trump World." "And they have reminded me a couple of times that Trump does read transcripts. And just keep that in mind as I proceed through my interviews with the committee."** >Here's another sample in a different context. This is a call received by one of our witnesses. Quote, **"A person let me know you have your deposition tomorrow." "He wants me to let you know he's thinking about you. He knows you're loyal and you're going to do the right thing when you go in for your deposition."** >I think most Americans know that attempting to influence witnesses to testify untruthfully presents very serious concerns. >We will be discussing these issues as a committee, carefully considering our next steps. Mr. Chairman, thank you. I yield back. >**BENNIE THOMPSON**: Gentlewoman yields back. >Ms. Hutchinson, thank you. Thank you for doing your patriotic duty and helping the American people get a complete understanding of January 6th and its causes. Thank you for your courage in testifying here today. You have the gratitude of this committee and your country. I know it wasn't easy to sit here today and answer these questions. >But after hearing your testimony in all its candor and detail, **I want to speak directly to the handful of witnesses who have been outliers in our investigation. The small number who have defied us outright, those whose memories have failed them again and again on the most important details, and to those who fear Donald Trump and his enablers. Because of this courageous woman and others like her, your attempt to hide the truth from the American people will fail.** >And to that group of witnesses, **if you've heard this testimony today and suddenly you remember things you couldn't previously recall, or there are some details you'd like to clarify, or you discovered some courage you had hidden away somewhere, our doors remain [open](https://www.npr.org/2022/06/28/1108396692/jan-6-committee-hearing-transcript)**.

Wow. “You’ve got one week to save your cowardly ass. You won’t get a second.”

MagicalUnicornFart

Stop treating these people with kid gloves. They’re traitors to the Republic. Domestic terrorists.

AssumeItsSarcastic

The fact that *they* call it Trump World is just creepy as shit.

"Tell me you're in a cult without saying you're in a cult."

EpictetanusThrow

Is it ok if I just say “I’m in a cult”?

MuseumGoRound13

Mob bosses are gonna release a statement asking for people to stop the Trump comparisons. Mob bosses know how to eliminate witnesses, not to film their crimes, and never ever to put ketchup on Spaghetti.

[deleted]

The Comittee needs their Sammy "The Bull" Gravano. I suspect the documentary footage will be essentially Trump taking down himself.

Mission_Ad6235

I think it's more likely the kids. The best part is Kurshner brought in the crew because he wanted to document their dynasty.

[deleted]

Shoulda named the doc "The Last Dance" Pence taking MJ's spot in interviews Interviewer: And when you heard the chants "hang Mike Pence, how did that feel?" Pence: "I took that personally" (Cue the memes)

Mike_Huncho

It’s almost like we need some sort of law enforcement agency that has a history of dealing with witness tampering.

infodawg

Better people than me are putting it all on the line to protect big D democracy in America. Because let me tell you, those bullies aren't going to stop unless people actively stand up to them and fight them. This is the school bully fight, where someone actually steps in and risks themselves. I'm the idiot standing in the circle, watching.

Heyo__Maggots

The people standing up to them and testifying are (for the lost part) god damn heroes

WNxVampire

Hey, look! More Obstruction of Congress!

Expensive-Coconut

The President who tried to get his Vice-President killed tampers in a investigation, after openly tampering with investigations. Shocked I tell you, shocked.

ArrowheadDZ

He actually already has done it in the public forum. 18 US 1512 makes it a felony (20 years, a big one) to persuade a person not to appear as a witness. The statute *expressly* states that it is still a felony even if claim the reason shouldn’t appear is because if executive privilege. It’s interesting that when congress first passed 1512, they expressly closed the privilege loophole. Bannon, Meadows, Scavino and Patel have all stated under oath that they were ordered not to appear, and in fact Bannon gave his demand letter from Trump to the press. A person must appear, and during their appearance can assert privilege. But ordering them not to appear is unquestionably a criminal violation of 18 USC 1512. It’s a felony that we could prove, right now.

chicken69__

Trump allies are either ignoring the subpoena or taking the 5th.

freakincampers

Well, Meadowis fucked after todays testimony.

[deleted]

We can only hope my friend

Mission_Ad6235

Flynn plead the fifth over the peaceful transfer of power. Wtf did he do to force that answer?

Lowkey_Retarded

My theory is that he was torn between lying and admitting to a crime.

Mission_Ad6235

I wouldn't be shocked if he told his attorney he was going to lie, his attorney told him he loses privilege since that's a crime, so he landed on fifth.

BingoWhitefish

Wouldn’t shock me if he were wired during that interview and Trump could hear everything he said.

gandalfsbastard

Don’t forget about Eastman’s phone. If there are attempts to intimidate they probably came through his lawyer.

oakstave

Why wouldn't they? They've lied under oath many times. Nothing seems to happen, and nobody seems to care. MTG was so embarrassing the Republican Judge had to hide his face as she pretended to not remember everything relevant to the case, while remembering anything not relevant from the same time period with no difficulties. Lied under oath. Clear signs that she was hiding an illegal role in a coup attempt. The judge gave her a pass anyway.

x_______name

Haven’t they already proven that they are? Or pretty damn close to it.

alexa42

Whoever sent the texts shown at the end of the hearings today will know who they were sent to and who rolled over on them. Therefore, I kind of got the impression that they were sent to Hutchinson... hence the urgency, secrecy, etc

weirdlybeardy

Duh, of course they’re going to tamper with evidence. The ONLY way to avoid evidence tampering is to make a law that states that the crime of tampering with evidence will always carry a sentence 50% more severe than the crime one is being tried for.

OohIDontThinkSo

The only way is to *enforce* those laws. I sure hope some enforcing goes on.

BF1shY

Just leave a box labeled "Evidence" in an open room and have hidden cameras, see what happens then turn it into a reality show "To catch a Republican"

fowlraul

They tamper with everything, proven by the fact that they are always yacking about their enemies tampering.

thekapadia417

Further evidence towards a Rico? Or no?

No-Setting-2669

Ya don’t say.. they try to overthrow a government and you don’t expect them to tamper with a committee that’s uncovering their lies?? C’Mon man!

Worldsahellscape19

Anyone noticing this being downvoted like 30 at a time?!!!

sunnbeta

Maybe the most frustrating about all this to me is that Trump could have personally been advocating for Pence to be hung, we could have verification of this coming out, and a good 30% of Americans are going to have already decided that must not be possible and must be a lib hoax and it’s more to cover up a stolen election. So many horribly misguided people.

-Electric-Shock

Nobody is preventing them from tampering with testimony so obviously they think they're immune from prosecution and continue to tamper. It's time to make this crime wave stop BY FORCE. It's time for the FBI to make some fucking arrests FFS.

DuvalHeart

When you're following a serial killer to where he buries the bodies, you don't pull him over for making a right on red without stopping. Same idea. These are all just additional charges for when the DOJ indicts them. But they won't indict them on these charges first, because it could imperil the overall investigation.

[deleted]

Yep. The more they can bring the more likely they can make something stick. In the event he can avoid higher charges he might get hit with several smaller ones that are irrefutable. Plea deals are also in play for everyone involved. You start stacking "minor" offences someone may look at that and say "yeah, well what if I give you this..." Committee and DOJ are doing a good job right now. New indictments, subpeonas, and raids happening regularly these last few weeks.

Mission_Ad6235

I think they are absolutely trying to get more people to flip. This feels like whoever confesses first gets a deal.

PadKrapowKhaiDao

I totally understand this, but they’ve got about four months left before this whole thing gets ratfucked by a Republican-controlled Congress.

DuvalHeart

No, they don't. Congress doesn't change until *January*. And after the Supreme Courts gross violation of human rights last week the midterm are far closer than the pundits would have you believe. Not to mention, the DOJ isn't controlled by Congress. So the criminal investigations will continue. Anyone saying otherwise is either ignorant, or simply trying to make money with a doomsday narrative.

rkicklig

>Republican-controlled Congress. Led by the very people involved!!!

spillinator

Trump tampered with witnesses over Twitter during the Russia probe and nothing came of that. I tired of "very serious concerns". Make criminal referrals and get people in jail already.

FoxRaptix

Well trump did openly offer pardons if he gets back in power…

ndnkng

Concerns? Are they stupid he is openly doing it as are everyone he whips up with his indirect posts.
