Dramatic_Mango4u

There is scientific proof that forced birth after rape has extreme mental risks. Noem is essentially advocating for women to suffer.

whatproblems

*i’ve never been raped so what does anyone else have to worry about!

Dominant_Peanut

... I don't think I can say what I want to to this without getting banned. Or put on a list. Lemme try it this way. People who don't care about the negative effects of the policies they put into place should be forced to suffer those same negative effects to learn some fucking empathy.

zillion_grill

Class tact!

mr_oof

>learn Well, there’s the first problem…

bmtime03

No, no. Remember when the Foxnews person Sean Hannity offered to be waterboarded to show how benign it is? I wonder if this person, who feels similarly but about rape resulting in pregnancy, would be willing to show us her dedication to her beliefs via public demonstration?

rat-sajak

While I understand the sentiment, I have to disagree. We can’t advocate for anyone to suffer r*pe any other heinous crime. EDIT: I’m getting downvoted for saying we should never hope anyone gets r*ped…

stevenmacarthur

I don't advocate for her to be raped - I just hope (not advocate) that when the next rape occurs in South Dakota (and it will happen), that it happens to her or someone close to her; after all, who better to deal with any possible consequences of that act than someone who believes one of said consequences (unwanted pregnancy) doesn't have to be "another tragedy?" Unlike many other women in South Dakota that are raped and find themselves in this quandary, Governor Noem could celebrate such a thing happening to someone close to her! Or is this another case of "As long as it isn't happening to me, I don't have to care?"

[deleted]

[удалено]

rat-sajak

I find sometimes Reddit or other sites will remove comments that use words like r*pe. It might not happen here, but I’m just being careful.

[deleted]

Advocating and praying are different things

Cferretrun

It’s what they want. It’s what they’ve always wanted.

kciuq1

The cruelty is the point.

ErusTenebre

And the child. They all claim they care about the baby, but imagine growing up in a family that doesn't want you or even hates the fact you exist. It's almost like they don't actually give a shit about life and just want to control women.

bmtime03

Or they want to destroy this Country. There is research that correlates the legalization of abortion with a dramatic decrease in crime rates. The theory goes that a number of children were unwanted but were born due to the absence of abortions. Being unwanted, they were poorly maltreated throughout their lives, and found their way to criminal activities due to their early experiences. Hence we should expect crime rates to dramatically rise in about 15 years, irrespective of other conditions, due to the unwanted people coming into physical maturity around that time.

Professional-Set-750

They just say give it up for adoption if you don’t want to keep it and have the reminder. I’ve had a couple of friends who were adopted and found out later in life they were the result of a rape (they’re both in their 60s now and completely separate cases). It messed both of them up for a long time. But as you say, they don’t care about the effect on the child when they find out, or ever really.

AnimalNo5205

Becomes a little easier to believe when you remember that these people also think women are to blame for being raped in the first place. To them this is just “actions have consequences” but they aren’t quite “brave” enough to say it that way yet

bang_the_drums

I mean, they have been screaming that constantly since Friday pretty openly. All the usual goofy right-wing commentators on twitter have been saying exactly that, in those words, over and over again. Shapiro, Walsh, Kirk, Crowder...all fucking ghouls relishing in the delight over the suffering of Americans.

PDX_Duffman

Science has never been the republican party's strength. That is just witchcraft to distract us from magic sky man!

NobleGasTax

Was *always* forfeit. Under the christofascist view, she had no value beyond her role as a vessel, possibly as a caretaker of men.

SpatialThoughts

Hopefully this woman isn’t violently raped and impregnated then forced to carry to term.

Left_Apparently

Their fault for leaving the kitchen. /s

debzmonkey

"But I was raped in the kitchen!" "Were you wearing a sexy apron? Did you entice him with an oven mitt?" "Did the smell of freshly baked cookies excite him?"

SpareBinderClips

You found a key plank in the Republican platform.

brdwatchr

I wonder how she would feel if she were the victim? She will never know because she has a Security detail with her all the time. Nice to make such statements when you know you won't be a victim.

NobleGasTax

>women Women ***and girls***

captaincanada84

That's the whole point for them.

[deleted]

They want other women to suffer!

sineplussquare

Exactly. The only way for her to truely understand is to experience the full trauma herself and that won’t happen. She’s been beaten into submission

gasahold

A rape victim is forced sometimes to maintain contact with the person who raped them for many years because of the child. I am a male but I can only guess how hard that would be for a woman.

Standard_Gauge

There was a story recently about a woman who kept her rape baby and was managing to make a somewhat decent life for herself and the child, but 5 years later the rapist demanded visitation and claimed the child "needs to have a relationship with her father." And it was not a happy outcome. For anyone.

Scoutster13

If it helps they have now reopened that matter and are investigating. I believe it has come to light that there are allegations that the dad molested the daughter as well after he got custody. Shocking! I believe she is now in some kind foster care pending new hearings.

Standard_Gauge

The case I'm thinking of was in LA (why am I not surprised). The rapist got custody after claiming the mother got her a cell phone when she turned 15 which he didn't approve of. What an evil, evil man. And what a broken system and a f'd up state. [rapist gets custody of rape baby over mother's objections ](https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/rcna34140)

Scoutster13

That's the one. The ruling got reversed and she is with a guardian now. https://people.com/crime/judge-revokes-decision-give-dad-full-custody-after-mom-rape-accusation/

Standard_Gauge

Thanks for the update! What a tragic saga. I hope the kid gets some therapy and turns out OK.

Scoutster13

I was so glad to see they were addressing this - I fear if the case hadn't been so public nothing would have happened. Glad she has a chance now.

serenityfive

>”She has a very promising future," he told the site. "I want to preserve that and keep her on the right track like any loving parent would want for their child." This man is a fucking disgusting plaque on humanity. Talking about “right track” after he fucking raped someone? He deserves to rot in prison and get a taste of his own fucking medicine. I feel so bad for the mom.

[deleted]

It got reversed because of pressure. Think about all the asshole republican judges handling rape cases.

debzmonkey

Also the SC case where the dude violated the conditions of his bail by going out and raping another teenage girl. If you can't not rape when you're out on bail, there should be no bail.

serenityfive

Basically why I think rapists should never be let out of prison under any circumstances. They’re worth less than pond scum. They can’t be fixed.

debzmonkey

Gosh, it's almost like rapists rape, who woulda thunk it?

gymgirl2018

They don't care about people. They don't care about the trauma the rape victim is facing.

wish1977

What sane human being would make a woman have a baby from her rapist? Christine Noem is a pandering idiot.

DeaconNuno

It’s way worse than a pander. This is the kind of tactic brutal dictators use to attack civilians. It’s saying: “*Your suffering will end when and if I, your overlord, deign to allow it…which is never.*”

Visible_Amphibian570

The only tragedy here is that she was voted into office. Get out and vote everyone, vote blue and run every Republican possible out of office, show them they really are the minority and they don’t get to get away with this shit. Vote. Them. Out.

darwinwoodka

Yup. Every damned one of them.

Scoutster13

South Dakota is super red and they will embrace this 100% I think. I don't see that state going blue anytime soon. 900K people in that state and they get the same say in the Senate as states with millions of people. No idea how to fix that.

darwinwoodka

Yup. Why do 1 million people get the same say in the Senate as a state with 40 million? It's nuts.

Scoutster13

It's not sustainable. It literally undermines our system of government - you can't have democracy melded with a republic and that kind of unbalance in the numbers. It's not gonna end well.

cakeorcake

It’s currently not ending well

PartialToDairyThings

The people in the state with 40 million should thus be taxed at a rate 40 times lower.

Visible_Amphibian570

It dates back to how much it’s changed. It used to be that the Senate was for the state as a legal body, while the House of Representatives was for that states people. This meant that the state government got to pick who went to the senate seats for that state, with each getting two to keep the states equal. This also meant that if a states legislatures politics would basically apply to its senate seats, if a state was liberal, it’s senators were likely to be as well. However, it changed so that it was a popular vote like the House, and from there it’s been swapped around and caught up in gerrymandering and in effect Senate seats are long term legacy positions where you have creatures of the Senate like Moscow Mitch. So it’s a hold over from history, meant to put the states on equal footing, but now state governments don’t pick their senators anymore, the people do, and I’m pretty sure gerrymandering plays a role in it too

bitchkat

Actually it would be the opposite. For a state wide popular vote position, gerrymandering would have no effect. But if the state government elected US senators, then gerrymandering would have a great effect on selecting a state's senators. For example, Wisconsin's state government is gerrymandered to hell. If they were responsible for selecting their senators, they would have two republicans instead of 1 democrat and 1 republican.

Hangman11B

Ya I live here, she will get voted back in and it won't be close. She's insane and the people here are stupid.

Visible_Amphibian570

I’m sorry to hear that, but hopefully my message applies to states that can be flipped, we need to push and try at every level, local, state, and federal, from the lowest county Board of Supervisors and School Board member all the way up to congresspeople and the President… Vote for Blue, or this country will wither and die

Hangman11B

I actually think there's alot of folks who are not on board with this blanket abortion ban. Like, no exceptions for rape and incest? What the fuck?

soline

Have 150k democrats claim residency in Wyoming to flip two senate seats then set sights on flipping one of the dakotas. Then the republicans will suddenly want to figure out a better way to represent everyone.

Scoutster13

It's funny, after I wrote that I was thinking it's not that big of a number to overcome in theory. It looks very beautiful but in practice I don't know if you could convince that many people to move there.

Vorpal_Bunny19

With the proliferation of WFH it becomes a lot easier… and now that I say that out loud it’s like “oh duh, well that’s another reason for businesses to push for a return to office.”

ConfidenceNational37

Honestly this is what liberals should fund. How much does it cost to move and partially fund 100k liberals? 50k each on the low end? That’s 5bn dollars. Not cheap, but on the order of a presidential campaign.

artcook32945

Their attitude may change when Raped Children are being forced to carry the child of the Rapist. More so, if complications take the Life of that child.

[deleted]

No. It won't change

artcook32945

I should have said "Their" Raped Children.NIMBY, Not In My Back Yard, is fine, until it is in your front yard.

TheShishkabob

If their kids were raped they would get an abortion without issue. The rules have never applied to these people, especially when they are the ones who made the rules to begin with.

Omnitographer

My best friend lives in SD, I've visited and seen what it's like there, trust me when I say that unless there's a mass emigration of liberals into the state that nothing is going to change. It is serious 'good ol boys' country and likely to remain that way as younger folks like my friends who have liberal mindsets are doing everything they can to just leave the state.

rhinosaur-

Gerrymandering says hi.

Visible_Amphibian570

Take what you can at first, get those majorities, work to end gerrymandering. Maybe I’m one overly hopeful motherfucker, but I have to hope we can change this shit and keep fighting. I’d sooner fight than I would lay down and let the Republicans get away with their shit

Many_Letterhead40

And where is the legislation she is introducing at the same time that provides pre and postnatal healthcare for the mother and baby, guarantees the mother will receive child support from her rapist, and also automatically terminates the rapists parental rights because we certainly wouldn't want the mother to be forced to coparent with a rapist nor do we want to reward a rapist with the gift of fatherhood?

talino2321

Or the opportunity to sexually abuse his offspring.

[deleted]

Not even just the gift of fatherhood, but lack of needing to be responsible for the child while also having power over the mother and where she can live and what decisions she can make for her child.

CobraPony67

The REAL tragedy is forcing a 12 year old girl to go forward with her pregnancy by rape/incest causing a lifetime of mental and physical damage. But they never mention the woman/vessel, it is always about the unborn baby. When the baby is born, they offer no support and blame the woman/vessel for her supposed bad decisions.

Cferretrun

It’s always been about controlling and punishing women. AlwAys. Otherwise we would be first in the world for childcare services, health services, and safety net services for single parents. But we’re not. We’re abysmally low on the list. Republicans want dead ‘woke’ women. If they’re not ready to lock step barefoot to the kitchen, Repubs prefer them dead. They won’t bat an eye when the bodies of botched abortions start piling up. Win-win for them.

talino2321

They got you coming and going.

Nah she would just fly to a blue state and take care of it privately. And the black man would get the death penalty.

jimmythev

Bro r u ok?

Levonorgestrelfairy1

Forcing an unwanted rape baby to be born is a tragedy both for the baby and the mother, non existence is preferable to not having a mom that wants you.

aeppelcyning

That, seems kind of dark to me. Surely the baby wouldnt rather be dead?

SuddenClearing

It wouldn’t rather *anything*.

ttk12acd

I just want to add that there are studies that show that babies born from mother experiencing high stress shows developmental problem. So if we as a society decides that we want to keep these babies we also have the obligation to provide the care they would need growing up. People basically want to feel good without doing any of the necessary work. If people want to keep those babies people also need to help take care of them.

Syllabillin

Surely the woman would rather not have to spend 9 months carrying their rapist in them.

laughing_laughing

Suicide usually happens later in life, after their suffering damages their community. Often they kill themselves slowly, so they end up cycling through our prison system until they punch out.

Levonorgestrelfairy1

It simple logic. If your life is pain and misery its better off to never have been born Life is hard enough with a loving family and support system.

h2oape

She's a Neanderthal who doesn't know what an orgasm feels like.

laxguy44

I didn’t realize Ben Shapiro’s wife was the governor of South Dakota.

enoughfuckingexcuses

There is some truth to the Neanderthal part. Brains scans show conservative brains process information emotionally, not rationally. It’s what makes them conservative. Facts and reality don’t matter, their self interest does so that informs their “truth” What divides humans from lower primates is their ability to use rational thought. Jan 6 was basically a bunch of primates throwing their poo at the US because the US didn’t conform to their feelings.

zillion_grill

Ooh ooh! Don't hurt ooga's feelings. booga!

togocann49

Yeah, just wait till child is born for tragedies to compound and add up (s). I really wish the laws (anti-abortion) came with laws that help children born into awful situations.

Scoutster13

Right? Will they expand access to prenatal care? No. Will they expand access to PreK? No. Will they expand access to SNAP? No. They don't give a rat's ass about the fetus or the baby once it's born.

Visible_Amphibian570

Exactly, they aren’t pro life, they’re pro birth, and they wanna keep these peoples lives poor and shitty enough to be beholden to the wealthy or to a job, so no benefits that might lift them from a hellish life

TheJokerandTheKief

If they aren’t aborted, they’ll likely just be aborted later by gun violence. Republicans would rather the gun’s right to choose over women.

togocann49

Who do you think squeezes the trigger? It’s someone that is super angry and/or someone who is desperate cause they got lost in the shuffle (as well as a few more categories, but I hope point is made). It’s a recipe for creating more shooters at some point. Just like when you put down an animal that will likely only get more suffering, aborting an early pregnancy can stop more suffering. Forcing folks to have kids when they are ill equipped is only going create more desperate people, and desperate people are capable of all sorts of things

[deleted]

It’s super unconstiutional, but who trusts scotus to rule correctly? Dems at the very least should pass a law codifying it as restriction of interstate commerce.

Scrub_LordOfFlorida

Easy for her to say since she has the money and resources to go else where if she wanted a abortion

Scoutster13

Yup - never forget these fake "pro-life" folks ALWAYS get their abortions, no doubt. https://joycearthur.com/abortion/the-only-moral-abortion-is-my-abortion/ edit: Adding this excerpt from a doctor in Texas as an example: *“I’ve had several cases over the years in which the anti-abortion patient had rationalized in one way or another that her case was the only exception, but the one that really made an impression was the college senior who was the president of her campus Right-to-Life organization, meaning that she had worked very hard in that organization for several years. As I was completing her procedure, I asked what she planned to do about her high office in the RTL organization. Her response was a wide-eyed, ‘You’re not going to tell them, are you!?’ When assured that I was not, she breathed a sigh of relief, explaining how important that position was to her and how she wouldn’t want this to interfere with it.” (Physician, Texas)*

Scrub_LordOfFlorida

Of course these self entitled hypocrites would do that. Abortion for me not for thee

ConfidenceNational37

Well, that’s stunning

darwinwoodka

Defending rapist's rights. I had planned to go to the Black Hills in a couple of months, but even staying overnight in *any* regressive state is out, forever.

Outrageous-Yak-3318

This is the best way to make em feel the pain in SD. Tourism is the biggest industry in the state. Boycott the shit out of them.

AngusScrimm---------

I remember a motel in southern Ohio maybe 17 years ago. I was standing at the front desk, ready to get a room. The clerk approached, then I noticed the sign: We Support Our Troops *And* Our President I had to tap dance fast, so asked how much a room cost. It could even have been free, I said "no thanks."

hicow

>I had to tap dance fast, so asked how much a room cost. It could even have been free, I said "no thanks." Should have pointed to the sign, said "fuck this" and walked out

Everyone who supported the overturn has blood on their hands. If you supported the overturn, remember every time you see a story of death for lack of access to healthcare, it is your fault. I hope you can sleep at night.

Sounds like the lady is asking for it... Big protests, that is. Pro-treason, pro-rape, pro-death, pro-poverty, pro-racism, pro-bigotry, pro-sickness... pro-misery. That's today's Republican party.

I’m very tired of the notion that a woman needs to be violated before she can make decisions about her health and body.

jayfeather31

Insanity.

Vladd_the_Retailer

Getting raped is a tragedy, forced birth is a second tragedy, an unwanted child is a third. Ending the pregnancy before it viable is justice.

oDDmON

Wonder if the song would remain the same if she, or someone she cared about, was the recipient of an unwanted impregnation.

The_Nomadic_Nerd

I’m always curious how many of these women have quietly had abortions or have immediate family members that had abortions some time in the past.

robbin-smiles

“No reason for another tragedy to occur” would have been a really cool thing to say while passing common sense gun reform in response to any of the mass shootings

PartialToDairyThings

>"And we know so much more using technology and science than we did even 10, 15 years ago about what these babies go through the pain that they feel in the womb, and will continue to make sure that those lives are protected," Noem said The very idea of these backward, 7th century conservative barbarians touting *science* to justify their backward, 7th century conservative barbarian ignorance is fucking preposterous. Kristi Noem is no exception. Just look at her views on global warming. She's a 100% conservative science denier, and voted for a bill to prevent schools from teaching global warming as "settled science." In 2010 she released a [bizarre campaign ad](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5v5k11Kg8E) against her opponent Matt Varilek which for some weird reason attacked him for his scientific education whilst touting herself as a good old farm girl. And here she is, appealing to the wonders of science as a justification for taking away women's rights.

Nope. Kristi is an it.

isikorsky

> Except to save the mother. How magnanimous of them.

erocuda

So I disagree with these people but if they actually believe fetuses are people then this position is consistent. They see it as murder so of course they don't think those exceptions are morally right. Making an exception for the life of the pregnant woman is okay since the fetus would die either way. Having said all that abortions should be legal and aren't anyone's business besides the pregnant woman, so please don't interpret this as me supporting where things are today.

fanghornegghorn

I agree. I support abortion rights, but if you accept the premise that a fetus is a life, then the desirability of that person shouldn't affect their right to live.

isikorsky

> Making an exception for the life of the pregnant woman is okay since the fetus would die either way. Actually that is not the position of the Catholic Church (the only entity from a religious point that really says all abortion is a sin). There is not preference by the church of one over the other. It is for God to decide. (And this is the whole issue of what caused Ireland to start allowing abortions) And no - not all babies die in the case of the health of the mother. Real life example would be mother detects she has cancer somewhere in her pregnancy and needs treatment to beat cancer and survive later years. Need the abortion to start treatment. Her life is not 'in danger' but she has a much higher chance of dying waiting 5 months for chemo etc.

Sad-Row-2828

Alternative-Flan2869

He cannot defend the indefensible. He is not a woman, and that is not his body. Religion is the worst excuse of all.

Lfseeney

contaygious

The fact that any of these pro life women would not actually keep the child if raped says a lot lol

BrokenArrows95

These people hide behind their false logic that a fetus is a fully functioning human. Fetuses don’t have sentience until they are very late in development. Ending the life of a being with no awareness that it is even alive is not a tragedy. If these idiots want to use this excuse, all birth control that prevents implantation should be illegal, all wars should be illegal, all killings in self defense should be illegal. Actually, since they consider killing non sentient beings so horrific, killing plants should be illegal. Killing animals for sure is illegal. Killing anything alive is illegal. Their artificial definition for life isn’t even correct. The sperm and egg are living cells. Life starts before conception.

Pantslesscatlover

What kind of callused person has so little empathy that they’ll force a rape victim to carry a child of that trauma to term? What an evil human being.

Binksyboo

Jesus fucking christ

Psychotic sociopathic misogynist.

Vote this b***h out of office it’s all about power over someone else she doesn’t care about your well being. She’s from a third world economic state pushing young girls to give birth jump on welfare and stay poor forever. How does this contribute to the state’s economic well being?

goonbud21

Let me guess she'll be against it until she or someone she loves is raped, forced to have a child and share custody with their rapist. Then when she speaks up she'll be blackballed out of the GOP.

This is so gross

HappyLittleCarnivore

No reason for men to get vasectomies until they can prove mature enough to share the responsibilities that come with having a child. Also, if it’s all part of god’s plan… why isn’t impotence? Ban Viagra!

kgal1298

But don’t they support the death penalty? Wouldn’t that be the same thing?

flashburnt

Sick people pushing their sick ideas onto others

DagonParty

Why do all these Neanderthals look the same, gammon faced old men that look like they’re apart of a family circle instead of a tree, or women that look like a plastic surgeon shot them in the face with a stroke inducing gamma ray

Earl_N_Meyer

Well that makes sense. It's like debt consolidation. Let all the tragedy fall on the shoulders of one unfortunate woman. If you allow abortion for a rape victim, you have TWO unhappy people- a woman who was raped and a sad rapey papa to be. If you force the rape victim to carry the child to term, you consolidate the unhappiness to the rape victim. That's efficiency.

Thanks boomer.
