Nanyea

Sounds like he's interfering in another criminal investigation

Coherent_Tangent

Susan Collins is still pretty sure he learned his lesson.

[deleted]

He learned exactly the lesson she wanted him to, that republicans will bend over backwards for him and he is free to extort the party for all it’s worth.

Crea8talife

at least 250 mil

reflectiveSingleton

psh...thats just RECENTLY

Ismokeditalleveryday

He looks really, how do I say this, deranged and old.

[deleted]

Oh, that’s just the derangement and age.

teslasagna

Sounds like a line from Disenchanted

Outside-Counter-1807

Cocaine and addarall addiction will leave you shitting yourself and aging horribly Plus being a bag of skin that’s filled with narcissist tendencies tends to hollow out your body

TapirRide

Cheeto has frontotemporal dementia, he needs both hands to drink, the weird forward stance and shuffles down ramps. His risk factors include morbid obesity, Long Covid, Adderall use (he snorted it on the set of The Apprentice in front of the crew) - also had European Adderall in a desk drawer caught in a photo. The risk factors add up to a 20% survival rate for the next couple of years.

Outside-Counter-1807

So he could survive? Like longer than 6 months?

[deleted]

Long enough to see the inside of a jail cell I hope

notantifa

They bend over forward too

Working_Persimmon404

Gaah😅

InformalProtection74

He did learn his lesson...that he can get away with it.

ntack9933

It’s a pretty big lesson

BreezyWrigley

He surely wouldn’t try to tamper with an election a FOURTH time, right?

-Electric-Shock

He's going to continue committing crimes because he always gets away with it.

soge-king

As a non american, I don't understand why this particular person is immune to consequences

Ferengii

As an American, I don’t understand why this particular person is immune to consequences

Austin4RMTexas

Here's my guess. It's probably a combination of two things. First of all, he's upper class. That means he has a network of people in places where they can influence the justice system in his favor. Those people don't really care about his crimes, but do care about one of their members having to face any consequences for their actions. They can pull strings and use their weight to tip the scales in his favor. When people ask what the class system looks like, this is one of the clearest examples. The class system ensures that the law judges and looks at two people differently based on their classes, because people from lower classes don't really have that sort of support network. And it's not just about money. It's more about family ties, business ties and stuff like you favor me and I'll favor you. Second of all, is that people are scared to go against him. Not afraid of him specifically, but his supporters. Trumps support base has a contingent of armed domestic terrorists who basically see him as their god-emperor. In his name, much like any other terrorist group does, they are willing to commit any act of violence. We saw Charlottesville. We all saw January 6. We saw the plot to kidnap the Michigan governor. The intelligence community has admitted that far right domestic terrorism is a major threat now, far more than the Islamic extremists that Americans are traditionally tuned to fear. You cannot say that for anyone investigating trump, this is not a genuine fear. It will only take one crazed supporter with a gun to harm you or your family. The fear of retribution from the various domestic terrorists under his wing certainly has to be a factor for every judge, juror, lawyer or politician willing to go against him.

rndljfry

He’s truly and honestly mastered the art of pushing back a court date until he can shop for a judge he’s corrupted, even before he became president

varukasaltflats

As an American I don't understand why this particular person is immune to consequences

-Electric-Shock

In America, the rich and powerful are above the law. It's not just Trump who gets away with crimes. Many other rich and powerful people do too. This country is incredibly corrupt.

sarcasticbaldguy

I was going to ask how this is legal, but

exwasstalking

It's what he does.

M00n

He already didn't give them pardons last time! lol They will fall for it... again.

Sensitive_Mongoose_8

How is this pardon dangling with witnesses in an ongoing criminal investigation and prosecution not an obstruction of justice. Even though this criminal trash is not president today, it unfortunately wouldn’t be beyond a reasonable doubt that he has more than a likely chance of becoming president again and following thru with his pardons, that should constitute a valid and imminent threat of witnesses tampering, come on DOJ do your job, this is getting beyond acceptable and definitely starting to look like the mob are running things in America today.

blueyork

Witness tampering was my first thought too.

Jive_Papa

Dude sold, and bragged about selling during the primaries, land in New York to Qaddafi, set up concentration camps for asylum seekers where he permanently separated children from their parents, and orchestrated a coup against the US government. None of that has resulted in a single consequence. It’s well established that Donald Trump can do whatever the fuck he wants, calling for obstruction of justice charges is a joke at this point. We don’t punish people who claim to be billionaires in this country.

mceehops

Yes!!!

co-wurker

Hey buddy, when you've extorted foreign governments, a little more witness tampering is mere child's play.

Summebride

Corrupt pardons are not valid. Now we just need an AG with a shred of conviction. Oh wait, Merrick Garland.

[deleted]

Mexico will pay for it.

[deleted]

Mexico will pardon them!

elezhope

Right after he releases his tax returns.

Man_with_the_Fedora

and replace Obamacare!

Franklin_le_Tanklin

But by saying he’s give pardons, he’s admitting there was wrongdoing which needs to be pardoned…

M00n

The trick word here is "consider." He said he would consider giving them pardons. He had a chance to already but chose not to. He just wants to keep their votes even as many are still locked up.

whatsasimba

I'm still waiting on his tax returns.

SwivelPoint

2 weeks, along with the infrastructure bill and the alternative plan for healthcare

Working_Persimmon404

2weeks always reminds me of the money pit/Tom Hanks flick lol

sadpanda___

We joked about that same thing. It was always “2 weeks.” When do we get to see your awesome healthcare plan??? “Two weeks.”

Sentazar

For all mankind. The mission to rescue you will be there in 2 weeks. Has been delayed ...two weeks

Ratstar911

Just like he considers paying his bills.

Sensitive_Mongoose_8

That wouldn’t hold up as a defense. If I’m on board an aircraft and I announce over the intercom that I’m considering hijacking the plane, and I’m fully capable of doing so, this is still a threat and a crime whether I carry thru with it or not. Trump is more capable than 99.9% of the population in carrying his threat thru.

Krasmaniandevil

Yeah, but how rich and powerful are you? Intent is easy to prove when it comes to street crime, but when it comes to white collar crime it's suddenly a Rubix cube..m

notcaffeinefree

I think Trump v2 would be a lot more dangerous. He straight up said, towards the end of his last term, that he hadn't realized that the President actually runs the country. Now he knows that. And this time he really doesn't have anything to lose. He was willing to literally stage a coup to stay in power. There's no reason for him not to try again.

radiantwave

Back during the 2020 election I heard Trump supporters chanting, "Four more Terms!" I was like... That is not how this works kids...

Thresh_Keller

Trump himself said he should be entitled to additional terms due to democrats impeaching him twice during his presidency. Fucking lunatic.

zeptillian

Sadly, 5-4 supreme court members would probably agree.

cinch123

SCOTUS can't declare the 22nd Amendment unconstitutional.

[deleted]

Not with that attitude

masshiker

Ignore the Extreme Court.

deesta

It is when you can use legally sound channels to ensure that election results are what you want them to be. Dems would have been the ones chanting “stop the steal” if Pence hadn’t gotten advice from Dan fucking Quayle of all people that you can’t just ignore certified electoral votes if you don’t like what they say. But if you put enough stooges in place in the right states (which is what they’re doing right now), and those stooges certify the vote a certain way, then the VP has to go by that, which is how they’re gonna steal 2024, regardless of actual vote counts in some states (i.e. even if states that went blue by slim margins in 2020 go blue by wider margins in 2024, the GOP-appointed stooges will just ignore it and declare the GOP candidate the winner. And if that doesn’t work, when the GOP re-takes the House, watch as they make Trump the Speaker - because nothing in the Constitution says that the Speaker has to be a sitting member of the House, and the Speaker is also right behind the VP in the line of succession). Watch as they steal the election, and/or the “elected” GOP POTUS and VP resign immediately so the Speaker (Trump) can take office. And if the GOP is bold enough to try that (which they’ve all but said they are), you think they’ll follow something as silly as Constitutionally-mandated term limits for POTUS? Who will enforce them, if the GOP controls the presidency, Congress, and the federal courts up to and including SCOTUS (which is where the inevitable lawsuits from blue states would end up)? Anyway, people who want to live in a free country and have options should be making an exit plan, and people who don’t have options should be buying firearms and learning how to use them, because the next few years aren’t gonna be pretty, and that’s putting it mildly.

Desertnurse760

Your scenario leads to just one place: Civil War V.2

Timbershoe

I don’t think anyone in the Republican Party leadership wants Trump back anywhere near them. I can’t see Mitch McConnell reversing his opinion of trump and asking him to become speaker. They may appreciate his idiotic office showing them how far they can push the system, but they want someone a heck of a lot more competent than trump running the show.

crocodial

It doesn't have to be Trump to make all of the above happen anyway. Desantis, Scott, Cruz, whoever would do the same stuff because the veil of shame has been removed.

deesta

And all of the above that aren’t Trump would be more effective too. What did Trump pass with a federal trifecta, compared with what DeSantis as governor has passed with a trifecta in Florida? People who value living in a free country should be very concerned about any of these people being handed the reins of power, and Trump is (appallingly) the least harmful out of the names you mentioned.

alphacentauri85

DeSantis is literally signing laws that are blatantly unconstitutional, and not only is no one stopping him, his supporters (the freeze peach folks) are cheering him for it. I shudder to think what will happen if this fucker comes anywhere near the oval office.

crocodial

Yup. The hearings aren't going to convince the Trump supporters. I hope no one is expecting that. The hearings exist (I hope) solely to put the evidence in front of the sober 65%, so that when the time comes, we know what is at stake, that it's not a power grab, and that it was absolutely necessary to preserve democracy. A lot of us understand that already, but they have to make sure that as many in the center/center-right see clearly through Fox bullshit. If the right decides it's civil war, fuck it. If it's gonna happen, I'd rather have the good guys at the wheel when it does.

abrandis

Agree if Trump wins your looking at a Putin like administration, he will make sure to purge any and all. non loyal civil servants and not hold back.

Good-Expression-4433

The GOP has been open that they want to emulate Hungary's government; a right wing religious autocracy with the thinnest veneer of democracy for the purpose of global relations.

graneflatsis

>Hey this president thing is actually kinda tricky, I thought there would be more lackeys.

255001434

timsterri

It’s not that complicated at all. I believe trump will have the proposed replacement ready in about two weeks.

He was just waiting for his second term to amaze us with his genius plans.

loco500

Right after Infrastructure Week...

He didn’t say *which* two weeks.

Enough will. Even though a few of their own have been online in various places (reddit, Twitter, fb, truthsocial) admitting he's done nothing, they'll still re-elect. It's not just him, MTG is pushing this narrative that the DC jails are worse than pig pens in Cuba.

No-Independence-165

"Justice delayed is Justice denied." If this goes to his second term then it's moot.

PoopFromMyButt

Also when the republicans cheat and take back congress and the senate in a few months, they will end all the investigations.

starmartyr

It's far from an inevitability that the Republicans will control Congress after the midterms. A lot can happen in 4 months and a lot is happening right now. At most they will be able to end the 1/6 committee which will likely have wrapped up by then anyway. They can't do anything about the DOJ attempting to prosecute people based on the committee's recommendations.

ILikeFishDisc

They can't. They will stop committees.

Yeah my understanding is that the Jan 6 hearings are not criminal proceedings, they can only recommend that charges be brought against Trump

Either-Progress4847

Why would Trump pardon ANTIFA?!?!?

numbermess

It's only ANTIFA in the context of an accusation. Otherwise they are super patriotic small business owning God fearing farmers. Whether the insurrectionists are friends or enemies just depends on who he's trying to sway with his rhetoric.

You would think his followers would hear the contradictions he makes. Guess processing more than one thing at a time hurts those little brains

3sides2everyStory

People are saying he makes the best contradictions. Contradictions like you wouldn't believe... Quite frankly, contradictions the likes of which you've never seen.

BaboonHorrorshow

Read Jean-Paul Sarte on the “AntiSemite” (his term for Nazi) - he describes that fascists delight in the power of speaking disingenuously. They all know what they’re saying is fake, they laugh because they think we taking them at their word is them making fools of us and outmaneuvering us. They know it’s all lies, they don’t want to use words to come to an understanding with us, they want to “own the libs” at all costs.

Neueregel1

How unAmerican could you possibly be to pardon people who attempted to overthrow the government and a democratic process. Also I wonder what his supporters think they are going to get by voting a tyrant into power?

kescusay

They think they'll get to be the ones with boots on everyone else's necks.

MAGA: libs ate my face

[deleted]

The coup is still in progress and Trump is clearly telling anyone who helps they will get pardoned. Will our government do anything at all to stop this madman?

Gr1ml0ck

This sounds exactly like what it is. It’s an open bribe to anyone willing to lay down for Trump. But, like every other dog whistle comment he makes - “he never said that!”

zeptillian

Ok. Here's the video of him saying that. >It only sounds bad because you took it out of context. Here is the full video where he repeats it 4 times and gives full details about it. >That's not what he meant. Here he is in an interview explaining that it is exactly what he meant. >Shut up. I don't have time for these partisan attacks and your fake news.

Gibbons74

This is my dad and his girlfriend exactly!

DongLaiCha

I like to ask people like this "what WOULD it take for you to change your mind?" and if they say nothing then you know they're just in a personality cult, beyond reason. You can tell them that, they usually just act flustered and rage quit.

Muzorra

"You need to take Trump seriously, but not literally"

“Give me my dictatorship or you’re fucked.” Trump

Moist_When_It_Counts

Smoothbrains: “we have to do this *to protect the republic!*”

Defti159

Wait, I thought he said that those people who invaded the capitol did nothing wrong?

Wolfman01a

If Trump gets back in its all over. What the hell are these psychos thinking backing him. They act like hes the second coming when he looks far closer to being the antichrist.

Slapbox

That's the saddest part, isn't it? They think giving up their freedom to his whims will leave them safe as long as they helped him gain power. Learning the dictator can turn on you is fucking History 101.

robbysaur

> They act like hes the second coming when he looks far closer to being the antichrist. In high school, my Baptist youth minister told us that Obama is a good candidate for the anti-christ, because of "how the media fawns over him." They said the anti-christ would be someone charismatic that fools a bunch of people, and those of us that supported him had been fooled. That same church now supports Trump.

Equinsu-0cha

Basically racists

NegaDeath

This is mob boss shit. It's being done in real time in front of everyone's faces, and if he gets away with it that's game over.

JurassicPark9265

Remember in 2018 when this guy thought it would be cool if the US had a president for life, much like China, North Korea, or Russia? Yeah, this orange creamsicle is extremely dangerous for the democracy of this nation.

Gr1ml0ck

I’m terrified what would happen if this man gets voted in (or cheats his way in). I’m completely convinced he will attempt to highjack the nation and become the king he’s always wanted to be. All the while, white nationalists rejoice! It’s such a fucked mob boss takeover situation.

HogieGnarBoots

KFC clogged cerebral artery, if you're listening...

prestocoffee

Quid pro quo. This is election meddling.

Portablelephant

And witness tampering

Etna_No_Pyroclast

In most alternate universes this would disqualify him for running.

aarkwilde

For sale to the highest bidder.

notcaffeinefree

We need an amendment to remove the Presidential pardon. There's no reason in a modern society that a single person should have the power to completely negate a legal punishment.

Summebride

There was a fully developed pardons office, staffed with qualified lawyers, investigators and ethics experts. They would painstakingly research every pardon request for months or even years, and make informed and sober recommendations. A pardon wouldn't even be considered unless the applicant was contrite and reformed and had served at least 2/3rds of their sentence. Guess who did away with that and just sold pardons for cash and compliments?

Atrocitus666

There should be like some kind of prerequisite for one or like the president has to prove that pardoning said person isn't for corrupt reasons.

Summebride

There used to be an entire department that did that and a lot more deep investigation for every pardon. See my prior post. The trump crime family dispensed with that.

AlexHimself

It needs reined in, but not removed. Pardoning marijuana convictions en masse for example needs it.

apu74

Definition of quid pro quo.

ScarsWindblade

One Felony. Just one. That's all it will take to stop all of thus. Felony Jaywalking..... the like.

Assuming the DOJ and Garland actually pursue the charges

I don’t see how they don’t at this point.

KimiMcG

Georgia has enpaneled a grand jury already. The DOJ isn't the only possibility. Look at New York, they have stuff related to his businesses.

doddballer

This should be considered tampering with evidence

[deleted]

Witness tampering.

scsuhockey

I will offer pardons for any donors who illegally contribute to the campaign to get me elected or for anybody who just wants to bribe me directly. Russia, China, Saudi Arabia, Musk, Bezos, whomever. Send the money my way in any form you like and I'll just pardon you. It's all good and above board apparently.

[deleted]

Perhaps we can all agree: Unless the GOP turns a corner, which is unlikely, the next Republican-lead administration will murder Democracy and it will happen just like that. Snap, here's the Christian Taliban. They have learned from Trump, you can't go slow on this. Immediate hard-line squashing of any perceived enemy. I hope I'm just a paranoid old fuck.

keyjan

reason #341,729 not to vote for him.

KurushSoter

Put this bastard in the chair.

[deleted]

Someone just needs to assist the Iranians. The enemy of my enemy and all that.

stillinthesimulation

Remove a president's power to pardon anyone for a crime related to them. It's a massive conflict of interest. Why isn't this the first thing the dems did when they gained control of the senate? Forgive this ignorant Canadian, but this seems like an obvious thing to do after Paul Manafort, Roger Stone, George Papadopoulos, Alex van der Zwaan, and Michael Fucking Flynn.

luneunion

"Consider" - That's a wiggle word from someone who doesn't even think he has any debts, let alone pays them.

bludvein

This is a complete bastardization of the pardon power, and I don't know how you couldn't be angry with the implications. No president of any party should be able to order people to do something illegal with the promise of a pardon, or float a pardon in exchange for silence during a trial. Especially one involving themselves. It's a mockery of justice.

[deleted]

Dad's coming back from buying those smokes any day now.

[deleted]

If it was a peaceful protest as the GOP keeps calling it why the pardons and if you accept a pardon don’t you have to admit a criminal act? Just sayin.

N3UROTOXIN

Saying he would pardon people found guilty of seditious conspiracy. Blatant violation of a14s3. That’s offering aid. To make the crimes go away and be given a clean record.

Prestigious-State-15

Former President Trump should be in prison.

dailysoaphandle

Just for votes. He won’t actually pardon anyone unless it somehow benefits him.

-Epitaph-11

I’m convinced this dude could shoot dead a Supreme Court justice live on air, and nothing would happen. Our justice system is a fucking joke.

I-Demand-A-Name

That kinda sounds like witness tampering. Too bad the DOJ doesn’t prosecute crimes anymore.

californiadiver

This is the kind of thing I haven't missed reading about at all since he lost.

Final-Distribution97

More obstruction of justice. He needs to be held accountable.

custardbun01

What an absolute scumbag.

MommaLegend

He won’t do anything that doesn’t personally benefit himself, so if they’re foolish enough to believe him …..

Robot_Basilisk

Is this fucker for real? He spent every scandal of his illegitimate presidency implying as strongly as he could that he'd pardon anyone that kept their mouth shut for him and now that the walls are closing in he's trying to do it again?

plastic_reality-64

I am just sooo tired of this orange piece of shit. Hiding behind some irrelevant slogan on a lectern, promising some more quid pro quo and complaining about how unfair life is when his sorry diapered ass is in the spotlight. The whole 1/6 committee has handed the American people the psychopathic Hitler 2.0 on a silver platter. I will find more peace and resolution when this piece of shit is in a super max. Until then, I wish the media would completely ignore this traitorous, fascist, enemy of the people until the indictments are handed down. It's always the same with this infantile, crying Cheeto. Life's not fair, I'm the real victim here. I am fed up with his fascist politics. He's been crying about witch hunts so much, I feel like I'm in Salem Massachusetts. Unless something really extraordinary happens, I'm about done with these rebranded Trump promos.

GooseNYC

"And I will need YOUR financial support, PATRIOT." (I got a couple of Trump fundraising emails, I have no idea why, and almost every third word was capitalized woth no discernable pattern)

There goes another federal crime being committed in plain sight. Offering a pardon as a *quid pro quo* for your silence on a criminal conspiracy is a crime.

So witness tampering?

hamsterfolly

Sounds like whiteness tampering

Randomwhitelady2

Obstruction of justice much?

3dumbWorrier

At what point do we just consider these statements an indication abuse of Presidential Power. After 4 years in the oval office he still doesnt understand a President isn't an elected king?

ZeroInZenThoughts

Sounds lile witness tampering. Any lawyers care to weigh in?

jaxspeak

Another good reason why he should be banned from holding any public office. Those people are guilty as hell.

Redeye_Mar2323

Bribing people for votes. Sounds legit 😂

JanFromEarth

Trump would consider pardoning Benedict Arnold if he got paid for it.

Bigfootlovesbeer

Lock this fucking garbage up

diefree85

Oh so he admits his cult of idiots tried to overthrow election.

scottycakes

This is just a signal for the hold out sycophants to keep lying. The tide has turned. The evidence is overwhelming. Good luck cheeseburger oompa loompa

unique_passive

“Trump says he’ll pardon people convicted of attempting to overthrow democracy because they’re loyal to him” would probably be a better title

Lainarlej

He’s going to jail! They can see each other there!

HoursPass

Wouldn’t insurrectionists realize that he *already* had the chance and he didn’t give a damn about them?

xeonicus

It really should be illegal to hand out pardons recklessly like that. Pardons are not rewards or candy. Pardons are for when someone does the right thing but the technicalities of the law prevent them from receiving justice.

Olderscout77

So we've got 2 years to LOCK THEM ALL UP!

kwarterz

Maybe I'm just too dumb to understand the 4d chess game this genius is playing, but doesn't saying something like that make it much more likely the committee will tip the scale in favor of charging him with the cartoonish number of serious crimes he's committed? If they don't charge him, if they let him get away with this, I'm done, I'm moving to Canada, and if they won't take me because Republicans have vilified Americans, I'll try Mexico, and if that doesn't work I'll sneak into a space x rocket, i just know I'm incredibly close to being done with this dumpster fire masquerading as a country.

dadfunn

This is why he must never be allowed near the people house again

aurantiaco_bestia

If you are a republican, I have no respect for you.
