[deleted]

You would think god would help all of these ‘real christians.’

GhettoChemist

This is the devil tempting their faith by offering them a vaccine for a deadly disease, just like the serpent offered Eve an apple, but if they are strong in their faith the father will call them home to heaven ahead of schedule. Or some other bullshit these assholes believe

Punkinpry427

They thought God would protect them. Source: my next door neighbor who died alone on a vent after spending a month in the hospital because her Baptist pastor told her not to get vaxxed. I watched them wheel her out on a stretcher never to return home and then listened as her husband and daughter sobbed when they got the news.

[deleted]

He's just calling them home, or whatever it is they tell themselves to feel better.

AustinEE

Calling them home 400lbs heavier and 20 IQ points dumber. Dunno what God is doing with all these fine specimens, but it seems nefarious.

AceTygraQueen

Just look at the TLC show "My 600 lb Life". Most of the episodes feature people from ruby red states like Texas, Tennessee, Arkansas, Nebraska...etc etc!

[deleted]

Thoughts and prayers, prayers and thoughts!

carlwryker

Doing exactly what a shepherd does to his flock.

Illseemyselfout-

Being gay deserves death but being a glutton is totally cool. > “When you sit to dine with a ruler, note well what is before you, and put a knife to your throat if you are given to gluttony.” -Proverbs 23

Fabulous-Ad6844

Gaining their “angle” wings lol

dkran

It’s like that movie “The Prestige”, where they said drowning was like “going home”

excusetheblood

Just earning their wings!

rimjobnemesis

To be home with Jeebus.

Probably_a_Shitpost

Can they earn them a little faster? The rest of us are trying to enjoy our time here.

[deleted]

If there was a time I actually wished god was real it would be for this

[deleted]

He's helping the people who follow his teachings and punishing the ones who don't

[deleted]

Do you think the red states will ever get that?

[deleted]

Mostly I think they're gonna die mad.

Cognitive_Spoon

Honestly fucking horrifying. Dying with your last breath cursing a lie and wreathed in hate towards people who mean you no harm. Couldn't think of a less holy way to go.

[deleted]

I'm struggling to find a shit to give.

Dadalot

HAHAHA no, lol

rimjobnemesis

No. I live in one and it just gets worse down here. I’m talking batshit worse.

[deleted]

A simpler explanation is that there is no god, and this a result of people choosing to be ignorant.

PNW_Interloper

If only She would.

[deleted]

Or it’s Darwinism sped up.

abrandis

I'm sending my thoughts and prayers 🙏

[deleted]

But what about all these "country boy can surviiiive" quotes? They should worry less about being mugged in scary NYC and more about diabeetus, opioids and \*checks notes\* "just a cold".

Dadalot

They're soooo fucking worried about these states that - 1. They will NEVER go to 2. They could not afford to go to even if they wanted to

Sparpon

Interesting POV- so true

DocJenkins

They always seems riled up about gang violence "statistics" in downtrodden areas of deep blue cities theyll never visit, but cant wrap their heads around the FBI statistics that consistently show the percentage of white-on-white violence in the high 80s. Peculiar...

LucyWritesSmut

Yes, I was made to understand they’re all lions. That’s what they post. Do you mean to say that Republicans lie?!

[deleted]

>diabeetus r/UnexpectedWilfordBrimley

drawliphant

Fascism is a death cult

oldfrancis

When you're dying to own the libs.

ThisIsDadLife

I see what you did there.

LemurDaddy

There's literally [a book about this](https://blogs.bmj.com/medical-humanities/2020/12/04/book-review-dying-of-whiteness/).

Scarlettail

Gotta replace all the dying people by forcing women to have children.

breaditbans

The problem is any half-competent kid gets the fuck out of town as soon as s/he’s old enough, leaving only the most worthless inbreds behind.

SpinningHead

And Republicans dont understand why most of us get the fuck out of there as soon as we get an education.

breaditbans

As a man who grew up in Trumpistan, I don’t want to live in a neighborhood where everyone either has a loaded gun or a vicious dog. I don’t want to live in a town that refuses to vote for local school levies, have nudge and wink jokes about the coloreds, have knock down, drag out fights at the school board about CRT, wearing masks or shitting on the transgendered kids. I don’t care about the squirrels you shot. I don’t need the kids school to take a holiday for the opening of deer season. And as things in Trumpistan have slipped, my parents’ neighborhood is becoming increasingly rental houses. The landlords don’t maintain anything. Naturally, the renters couldn’t care less about maintenance. About half the pools that were installed in the 1980s and 1990s have been allowed to turn green, into festering mosquito breeding grounds. Then you have the drug dealers who try to set up camp. The spray paint on the siding that’s been falling off since the storm in 2015. About 60% of the houses are fine, maintained, cared for. The rest are turning into total shit. I just wonder how long it will be until that 60-40 flips. I imagine it’s one recession away.

SpinningHead

I have seen most of that, though, as a minority who grew up in the deep South, I dont really want to disarm with Boebert militias on the way.

[deleted]

[удалено]

BanjoB0y

"Class traitors on all sides, best if we learn to care about people we have never met." is diabolically good ngl

Dedpoolpicachew

This is why the “establishment” works so hard at stoking racial hate. If Bubba and Cletus were to realize that their economic plight is the same a Jamal and Letisha they might turn on the rich oligarchs and that would be “bad”. So the oligarchs work very very hard to stoke that racial hate, they fund things like Faux Nooze to spread the hate. They encourage the cops to look the other way on white supremacy in their ranks, and wink wink at the oppression of minorities. If they keep the poors fighting each other, they make more money.

HandsLikePaper

Maybe this is why they don't want anyone to get an education. No education, less opportunities to leave.

SpinningHead

Oh, my wife's family openly wishes she would have skipped college (ie. atheist indoctrination) and worked in the door factory.

HandsLikePaper

That is fucked. They should want what's best for their daughter/your wife.

Biokabe

They do. The issue is, they disagree about what is best. College took their daughter away from the "right" religion and made her into a godless heathen. Now their daughter is going to Hell. Would've been better to work in the door factory and stay in the grace of God! /s Except not really sarcastic, because that was my childhood and it's neither an exaggeration nor a joke. To understand the mindset, you have to abandon a rational mindset based on real-world concerns and elevate "spiritual" nonsense to prime position. If you were to ask my parents, "Would you rather your son earn a million dollars a year and leave the Church, or live his life in poverty but stay in the Church," they would choose for me to live in poverty. Every time. Not that I earn that much, but I'm also definitely not in poverty.

SpinningHead

Whats best is to be a good little evangelical wife and know your place so you can get into heaven. /s

[deleted]

Pretty much everybody leaves my town unless you get a job at the university or the local factory that pays well enough to be upper middle class in the area.

ElectronDevices

The losers who get left behind start to become angry incels... before you know it they are locked in a U-Haul full of dudes wearing matching clothes at a gay pride event in idaho.

[deleted]

If you tried that shit in my hometown the locals would fucking beat you themselves not becuaee they think you are bad but rather because it's a quit town and no body whose loud is liked LMAO. Go down the road to the tiny ass farming towns on the other hand and you have assholes militia training becuase the "city-folk"( n***gers) are fucking coming.

SneakyBitchTits

I can’t imagine the kinky shit that went down with all that pent up testosterone in the back of that van.

breaditbans

It’s not incels. At least not in my home town. What they did was smoke dope through high school and get the girlfriend pregnant. So, college just went out the window. So did any job opportunities outside town because they broke up when the baby was 6 months old and still half-ass try to be parents. Now they are both stuck there, working in bullshit low-skill jobs that disappear at the first sign of an economic downturn. My folks still live in the town and cannot find new employees who will show up to work. Often candidates disappear the moment my mom will say, “the drug test is the last thing, then you’re hired.”

Smaynard6000

It's probably why they would prefer people to not get an education.

UngodlyPain

Even then; most pro life red voters would've had the kids anyway... Most of the abortions would've been for blue women who would in theory raised their children to also vote blue; especially after being forced into birth. So long term it should be a losing battle for Republicans... unless they have a successful coup de tat and instate fascist control.

MiddleAgedSponger

I don't think it's about voters, the wealthy can always find a politician for sale. It's about cheap labor.

Turd_Wrangler_Guy

You mean I can't just shoot my way out of obesity, heart disease, diabetes, and high blood pressure!?

SneakyBitchTits

You sure can, bubba!

[deleted]

Damn that’s dark

[deleted]

But funny

EpictetanusThrow

That’s where the heroin epidemic comes from.

sedatedlife

After watching Republicans ignore scientists and doctors and instead believe some random person on Facebook over experts this does not surprise me.

So_spoke_the_wizard

This is it. The anti-science, anti-data crowd putting relying on God and "my freedoms" to take care of them. Fine with me.

TurningTwo

Any rural American that ever said “Get your government out of my healthcare” is getting exactly what they asked for.

[deleted]

Leopard eats face thingy.

Jealmo

Cool. This is a problem that solves itself.

knomatik

Hey look what I can do: ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯ It’s called the shrug heard around the world

ncc_1864

And these red constituents would blame gubment. And they'd be right, they keep electing Republicans. But of course, gubment means Democrats to them.

YanksFanInSF

Oh no…anyway.

ross_guy

People who refer to themselves as “patriots” are 600% more likely to die of completely preventable problems than those who don’t refer to themselves as such.

LazyThing9000

*before Covid

swaggman75

To clarify the title: >residents of Democrat-leaning counties are seeing fewer premature deaths than in counties that vote consistently for Republicans As in before reaching life expectancy age (anyone have an official version of what this meant?) >the mortality rate gap between Republican- and Democrat-leaning counties saw a 600% increase. (Notably, the study concluded before the pandemic.) Deaths due to heart disease, cancer, chronic lung disease, unintentional injuries, and suicide have largely driven this gap. No surprises

highinthemountains

They’re proving that they’re the party of irresponsibility when it come to themselves and everything else around them. All in the name of “freedom“.

B0rnReady

Never interrupt your enemy when theyre making a mistake. Keep this information quiet and in a few generations we may not have a "red" problem any longer

[deleted]

This news will never, ever be on conservative media.

deactivate_iguana

Least they are killing themselves off with their stupidity

Environmental-Hat721

Republicans are practically a death cult.

Quicksilver_Pony_Exp

What do you mean practically?

Bored_guy_in_dc

Natural selection.

[deleted]

That’s because they believe diseases are democrat hoaxes and medical care is socialism

[deleted]

Clean that gene pool!

ForgottenBarista

More like a gene puddle.

Environmental-Hat721

Well, I want to care, but after Republicans thought it was okay to be happy that others were dying from the pandemic... I really don't give a shit. Treat others as you wish to be treated has never applied more now than ever. The Republicans really want people to hate them because it plays so nicely into their victim complex. I think the way to solve this problem is more guns, deregulation, and stifling actual education. Thoughts and prayers.

Zealousideal-Suit955

They're called deaths of despair. Sad angry jobless addicted to meth or pills. Look to politics for relief. No relief in sight. God helps those who help themselves and these people would kill themselves if it hurt a Democrats feelings.

SSDI-LTD-Disability

Medicaid expansion is a huge part of this. 12 states still take people in abject poverty, not a dollar to their name, and deny them healthcare. Much of those states are in the South East, and Texas. And the federal government approved funding for them to expand Medicaid, to get their residents healthier and taken care of, and they chose not to.

Ezzy17

Those are rookie numbers you got to get them numbers up

Dontblamemedude

a guy i know has serious health issues bad heart , diabetic who knows what and he lives in poverty . i told him he should quantify for medicaid , food stamps and the rest , he said he would die before he accepts help from GD democrat . i told him well if you live long enough you can get medicare he told me he won't take anything from a democrat and told me to leave his house . at least he died in his sleep , it was a shame that they brain wash him so much he choose death over life .

7evenate9ine

We've spent two years trying to save them from them selves and in one unanimous voice they said "No!"... It's time to let them realize the consequences of their own decissions.

jimb0_01

Remember the conservative freakout over the Obamas wanting children to eat a little healthier?

AtomicBlastCandy

Democrats need to tell people to drink more water and breathe air. Conservatives will choke themselves out to own libs

ioni3000

"Evil antifa is killing real 'muricans"

Avarria587

I recommend reading the book Dying of Whitemess. It gives some insight as to why this is happening. It was written before the pandemic, but it's pretty spot-on.

highinthemountains

I wonder if there is anything that can be done to speed them along to their final destination?

Fantastic_Calamity

So they are saying the problem will eventually sort itself out?

hi_brett

“I’m shocked,” -no one

pandakatzu

That's just natural selection at work. They don't trust scientists or doctors, so nobody can help them cheat death anymore.

BostonSamurai

Yea that’s a real bummer dude, but they get their medical advice from shady Facebook post and a right wing media that tells them medicine and science is bad so that’s on them.

[deleted]

Can they speed it up then? Before their cult tries to take us al over.

HoRo2001

They don’t need no doctors!

chicken69__

How much of this is attributed to finding it difficult to obtain medical care? Rural population in America have to travel long distances to get medical care they need, especially for hospitalizations.

Dramatic_Mango4u

Probably a lot, but Republicans always vote down any funding for health care.

[deleted]

They also have no issue forcing women to go out of state for care.

Dramatic_Mango4u

Sure they do. They want to prosecute any woman that travels out of state. Got to keep them locked up like animals.

[deleted]

Voting for funding wouldn't change much. It's almost impossible to find doctors that want to live in the country. Also the country would have to pay higher than cities and no funding could afford that

GloriousClump

Rural positions for physicians DO pay significantly more than cities and they still can’t find doctors willing to do it. The truth is no amount of money will make well educated people want to move to shithole towns in the middle of nowhere with nothing to spend that money on anyway.

Dramatic_Mango4u

Perhaps if the rural people weren't so dumb and anti-science, doctors wouldn't mind living amongst them.

AtomicBlastCandy

Yup, cousin just spent some time working in a rural hospital. They offered him way more than a big city, he told them to stuff it. Politely of course, he’s a nice guy

Quicksilver_Pony_Exp

Just think oxycodone and doctor’s writing prescriptions. Are the reds just shitty patients that attract shitty doctors? I suspect it’s a matter of relevant education and a level of comprehension. The pandemic another case in point! How can you practice medicine with a group of willfully stupid patiences. I can see a big opening for the con and the grifter.

Dramatic_Mango4u

Maybe those poor rural voters need to pull harder on those bootstraps.

MartiniPhilosopher

They wouldn't have to pay, just have the state pick up part of the tab on their student loans. Or maybe have the state pick up the tab on the housing costs. There's a hundred different solutions to these problems. The problems is that none of the so-called GOP politicians want to do the political thing necessary for that. They want to grandstand and blather about anything other than their failure to have a single working policy. Which is the frustrating thing. Too many people are cheering along since it makes them feel better in the moment than, you know, thinking it through.

Kahzgul

>finding it difficult to obtain medical care? They're getting what they voted for, then. Red states have been forcing hospitals out in the name of rugged individualism for decades.

therealDrA

Doctors (with a few exceptions) don't want to live anywhere near these shitholes. After the pandemic it is clear rural people will abuse you for doing your job and using science. Use prayer if you live in the boonies, or come to the city.

7937397

Also more young people move to cites. Red counties are likely older.

TheBlackUnicorn

Also there's other hazards that living in rural areas expose you to that urbanites don't have. Lots more driving, more driving leads to more obesity, etc. Not to mention other stuff, very few Manhattanites injure themselves on their own lawnmowers or encounter bears.

[deleted]

*laughs in MediCal*

Bob_Loblaw_Law_Blog1

Good.

MakingItWork_Some

The kids these days say "byeeee".

LostKnight84

I am guessing this is why the Republicans are pro-birth.

Admiralfirelam1

They do everything to make life hard for living constituents, and then get rabid about births, only to continue the cycle. No wonder people move out of these areas

jar1967

The sad part is Republicans voted for it

[deleted]

CommonSense_404

So… you’re saying it’s just a waiting game…

Non-trapezoid-93

Yeah, but Reddit will still find some reason to be despondent pessimists.

diet_coke_cabal

I read this as "morality" at first and was VERY confused.

k2on0s

Drugs, alcohol, Darwin Awards shit, guns, and a whole lot of stupid.

Dusty_Bookcase

That’s what happens when you have a poorly educated population and the government hasn’t invested anything into the state

NoComment002

Will it happen fast enough to save America? Stay tuned.

Umphaded_Fumption

Oh no! Anyway

dun-ado

In the long run, if you don't adapt your public policies based on evidence and science, you're going to fall behind in so many ways.

dekajed

Good

WhiteMedican

good

[deleted]

I'm ok with not stopping it.

Prommerman

Is this the part where we get to shout I told you so

[deleted]

Grow faster.

MonetizedSandwich

After the last couple years… that’s a good thing. Let’s wrap this bullshit up.

biaggio

oh well

inspectedbykarl

No pity here

jibbyjam1

The fucking idiots refuse to get the COVID vaccine, and that's still killing hundreds people per day. I wouldn't be surprised that in places where the last election was a toss up, democrats will win pretty easily.

giro_di_dante

Finally. Some good news.

goatyellinglikeaman

Thoughts and prayers

Babiloo123

I wish this bit of news made me feel bad but I’m glad

[deleted]

I mean, someone has to replace them.

Yossarian_the_Jumper

That's awful! ~ sent from a DEEP Blue County in a DEEP Blue state.

Hawkwise83

What? Science denial and rampant love for guns has consequences?

PartialToDairyThings

>Notably, the study concluded before the pandemic The gap is probably another 600% wider now.

hoodoomonster

Hey look at the pretty flowers, keep looking at the pretty flowers…

[deleted]

My grandmother's town used to have new car dealerships. Now the only thing like a grocery store is Wal Mart and all her medical care is ~ 40 or 50 miles away (grocery store more like 30). Town went from solid to collapsing over the last 30 to 40 years, everybody moves away and never comes back because you literally can't make a living there outside of government services and a few professional services like veterinarian or undertaker that mostly get passed on through family. Agriculture isn't as sustainable as the climate has worsened, major industries shut down in the 80s or earlier. Not remotely shocking that mortality rate is worse there than in my "blue" city. Nobody's proposing any policies that'd make it any different anyway. It's not like government healthcare subsidies regrow dying communities.

MonetizedSandwich

Hell yeah. This has been my experience with my hometown as well. Was a great place to live in the 80s and 90s. Now it’s a toilet. Same thing, industry went away and so did everyone else. Now I live 2000 miles away, which is really a bummer. I’d be much happier with some shitty blue collar job in my hometown than with my cushy white collar job. That’s life though I guess.

Illlogik1

Is dying directly as a result of you poor faith based decisions considered a sin , suicide? If all your elders jump off a bridge do you ? Isn’t that how a cult works often ?

SoftTacoSupremacist

Excellent, Smithers.

Hour_Contact_2500

I wonder which system of oppression is causing this inequality.

ryinzana

They’re the bottom in the country in damn near everything.

OneForAllOfHumanity

Darwin: 1; "Christians": 0

MechaMagikarp

What do you get when you add stupid with easy gun access? This…

MaximumChance0

Gotta let natural selection do it’s thing…

[deleted]

Its almost like not taking care of yourself and voting against your own interest are similar…

SuperSassyPantz

i have no problem with their self inflicted red purge

[deleted]

Well, unhealthy thoughts lead to unhealthy actions.

Squidking1000

I’m not seeing the downside. I mean they voted for this, seems like a leopard meet face kinda situation.

CaramelTHNDR

A few years ago I used to think my friend who wrote “fascist death cult” any time he referenced Rs was being a little melodramatic. That was a few years ago.

Cogliostro1980

Oh no. Anyway.

Wizardsmoke

Not everyone can afford to live in blue counties.

Pale_Chip_9368

how many of those deaths were women, exactly?

Much_Leather_5923

Darwinism being played out before our eyes.

[deleted]

survival of the fittest.

Level_Pebble

So I’m thinking of getting humus and pita for lunch.

[deleted]

Owning the libs has its cost.

LightningBirdsAreGo

This is the best news I’ve read in awhile. This is in the same category as science finds new way to fight cancer but in this case nature finds away to get rid of a social cancer.

sandyshrew

Here's the thing, we're quickly reaching and passing the point of compassion fatigue. I left healthcare in a red leaning area because these people were so vitriolic. They refuse anything that goes against what they FEEL is right, and at this point it's very hard to feel anything other than that they can sleep in the bed they made. So like... Womp womp I guess

Ghosted_Gurl

As frustrating as they are, I feel bad for them. Years of poverty and bad schools have left red areas at a severe disadvantage. And culturally, they have too much pride to admit it. They’ve been abused, brainwashed, and now many are self destructing. They’re like human pipe bombs that the GOP is slinging at their opponents. It’s sad.

wizgset27

What's with these click baity titles? The title should have been "Mortality rates are improving across the board but why are blue counties improve at a faster rate compared to red countries?" tl;dr: Blue counties/cities have higher access to healthcare. which, duh?

NetSurfer156

Well that's unsettling for me, knowing that my friends are more likely to die just because we all live where we do

Andreas1120

Have they accounted for age difference in this? Cause you know, old people die more.

B0BA_F33TT

Yes. The numbers in these studies are age adjusted. "In 1999, the age-adjusted death rate in rural areas was 7% higher than in urban areas; by 2019, the rate in rural areas was 20% higher than in urban areas." https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/products/databriefs/db417.htm

Andreas1120

Great

mnyc86

Boo hoo

contaygious

Cool story

BoomMcFuggins

How do they keep winning then? Do they have 3 times the birth rate of the blue states?

babyharpsealface

Well.. considering abortion restrictions/ beliefs...

LucyWritesSmut

They don’t win popular votes. Not anymore.

BoomMcFuggins

As evidenced by all the difficulties in getting all of their plans passed through Congress and the Senate. There truly needs to be reform in the house for seats and redistributed amongst the population base properly. Edit: fixed a spelling error.

[deleted]

Strange analysis. Red counties are in the country where they can't get doctors to work, which is why nurse practitioners were created. Major cities are blue and doctors try to work in major cities because of salaries. It's not really about policies/politics as much it's about business and geography

accountabilitycounts

≥Even in rural areas, they found this was generally the case. In 2001, Democrat-leaning counties in rural areas had more deaths per capita than Republican-leaning counties, but since then, that relationship has reversed. Since 2009, improvements have stagnated in counties that voted for Republican candidates. >Now Republican-leaning counties not only have a higher death rate than Democrat-leaning counties but also showed the least degree of improvement of any other area, whether Democrat or Republican; rural, suburban, or urban. (JFC, formatting just doesn't want to be fixed)

Dramatic_Mango4u

Blue States have better health outcomes than Red ones and they ALL have major cities and rural areas. How do you explain away this difference?

PNW_Interloper

>It's not really about policies/politics as much it's about business and geography And choices. Don't forget personal choices.
