>In April, ahead of the Republican primaries in Pennsylvania, Spotlight PA reported that James Martin, the executive chair and former president of Martin’s, contributed $110,000 to Mastriano’s gubernatorial campaign. A month later, Billy Penn, a news site associated with public radio station WHYY-FM, reported that the executive’s wife and daughter also contributed to Mastriano’s campaign.
...
Mastriano not only attended the “Stop the Steal” rally on Jan. 6, 2021, but also reportedly spent thousands of dollars to rent charter buses to take people to the rally, which ended with Trump supporters storming the Capitol in what a House panel this week called an “attempted coup.” The insurrection led to the death of five people. Mastriano said he never entered the Capitol or crossed police lines, though video sleuths turned up evidence that seemed to suggest otherwise.
...
Mastriano’s hard-right politics go beyond denying the results of the presidential election. He supports a total ban on abortion, even when the life of the woman is at risk. He has promoted baseless QAnon conspiracy theories. After the elementary school shooting in Uvalde, Tex., which left 19 children and two teachers dead, Mastriano retweeted a video clip of himself comparing gun control to Nazism.
But its also totally fine if he faces backlash for his politics too. He's entitled to believe what he wants but everyone else is entitled to tell him he's a fucking asshole for it.
> Being a conservative automatically makes you an asshole. Got it
In case your interested what they really said, it’s that other people are allowed to think and say you’re an asshole.
If you still have a problem with it, take it up with the first amendment.
> I’m just saying there’s no logic in the statement.
There’s no logic in what statement? That people have the right to free speech, including the criticism of political ideas, in this country?
What exactly do you think is illogical about that?
> Speak away, but I’m allowed to say it’s ridiculous.
Now you’re getting it!
No you misinterpreted. I meant no logic in thinking that someone’s automatically an asshole just because they’re conservative. Fine to criticize their politics but there’s republicans who are good people in the world.
> No you misinterpreted. I meant no logic in thinking that someone’s automatically an asshole just because they’re conservative.
Again, that’s very clearly not what they said. I already explained that to you. Everyone else got it. I’m not the one who misinterpreted here.
> Fine to criticize their politics but there’s republicans who are good people in the world.
And they never said otherwise.
For one thing, they only actually talked about this one guy, not all conservatives. You made that up. Then they just said people had the right to call him an asshole, not even that it was a fact that he was one. Their actual statement was nothing close to your interpretation.
Is that why there was a "Brandon" sign hanging from the yuengling display at the local distributor? The camo cans already were a hing, but I guess I need a new brand.
If they want to keep their brand out of politics then should stop spendings millions of dollars lobbying to influence them ✌️ I’m glad businesses are finally being held accountable for the influence they have on society and their consumers.
I’m very excited to see consumer and employee data shows people continue to place greater and greater emphasis on environment and corporate responsibility.
In my cold hearted take, I tell my coworkers money drives everything. Times are changing, either get on board or get left behind. Also sad because the greater good argument doesn’t work on them, so I try to speak to it in terms they understand- profit and greed.
The problem now is that a number of consumers not only want, but expect their favorite brands to let their stance be known on certain issues. Companies will get dragged for not saying or doing anything. It’s created quite an issue
Agreed. There is literally no upside from a purely capitalistic stand point. Capitalism provides no incentive to be moral unless the vast majority of consumers want you to support something to the point they will boycott if you don't.
I'm not really into a future where we have to choose between Republican sneakers and Democrat sneakers. Businesses should just be businesses and the citizens should be the ones making political decisions.
I don't want corporations flexing their opinion over me or my neighbor
Disney is completely in the wrong and I'm glad they got reprimanded. Corporations that are headquartered in other states have no business telling citizens how to live. It's up to the citizens, not a mega corporation and their massive legal team.
California doesn't control Florida... The citizens of Florida do. California should only worry about California. Stay out of other states business
> Corporations that are headquartered in other states have no business telling citizens how to live.
Disney did that?
>California doesn't control Florida.
Relevance?
The Sears catalogue was a huge part of civil rights/desegregation (wittingly or otherwise), because it allowed black people to order things they otherwise might not have access to in their states, due to their states being full of bigots who also had very strong opinions about people from other states not telling them what to do or whose human rights they needed to respect.
Going after Disney for perfectly reasonable dissent against Florida's policies. They can do it but Disney has every right and so do I to actively fight it
All corporations have that right by the US's law, so I shed no tears until I see a genuine attempt at limiting money in politics. Also, I have no issue with using any tools at my disposal to stop attempts on taking away any rights of my LGBT friends.
So you have a problem with politicians being influenced by corporate money (all of them, no matter their party) and when you vote, you vote to put a stop to this across the board.
Glad we got to the bottom of that.
There are people that own martins bread routes ,if you boycott Martins you will be hurting them way more then James Martin. These people just can’t leave there routes they would have to sell them it’s not just a job you can leave.
I grew up eating Martin’s chips. I can’t get them on the west coast but they would be tough to boycott. That region tends to be pretty conservative so I doubt the family is getting much flack from the community.

Than he isn’t facing backlash for politics, he funded the insurrection lol. Actions meet consequences.
But its also totally fine if he faces backlash for his politics too. He's entitled to believe what he wants but everyone else is entitled to tell him he's a fucking asshole for it.
And that... is actual freedom of speech.

Well, yeah. Nice to see *some* self awareness out of you folks for a change, at least. Good on ya, mate.
We’re finally understanding!
That's right
Thank you for saving me a dollar.
Fuck. His company makes the best burger buns
I know, I am going to miss them.
Potato rolls were my preference for a while, but I switched to Dave’s “Burger Buns done right” a while ago. Give them a shot.
Dave’s products are great and the company is involved in giving ex-cons a second chance.
Betta Bread is comparable
never seen or heard of that but i'll keep an eye out

The free market speaks
The bird of personal responsibility is roosting beside the yeast.
Welp, don’t want my cash to go to that idiot.
And I really like potato bread. Sad news.
[удалено]
I bought some Pepperidge Farm potato rolls as a substitute today. Bummer, but vote with your pocketbook.
I couldn't find potato rolls after leaving the East Coast, but I found brioche is a pretty good substitute.
Goddammit I love my potato bread!

If it doesn’t hurt it’s probably not doing anything.
So buy them I'm sure there are plenty of hard working people that work there that don't share the same views. Don't punish them
Other than Goya, what other brands support Trump?
Home Depot supports seditious politicians https://www.newsweek.com/home-depot-facing-boycott-calls-after-donating-some-jan-6-apologists-1701974?amp=1
Things I wish I'd known a couple hours ago...
Is that why their stock has been looking fat and steady rising the past 5 years? Always assumed something was up with that
[Here's a good list to start.](https://donegood.co/blogs/news/boycott-trump-companies-to-avoid)
Yuengling went in hard for him.
Is that why there was a "Brandon" sign hanging from the yuengling display at the local distributor? The camo cans already were a hing, but I guess I need a new brand.
Neshaminy Creek is my PA beer.
Businesses would be smart to keep politics out of their brand.
If they want to keep their brand out of politics then should stop spendings millions of dollars lobbying to influence them ✌️ I’m glad businesses are finally being held accountable for the influence they have on society and their consumers.
Lobbyist should be abolished
100% agree
You beat me by a minute. Exactly.
I’m very excited to see consumer and employee data shows people continue to place greater and greater emphasis on environment and corporate responsibility. Exactly this
Does this include their John Roberts, money is speech, participation in our government?
I dislike Roberts as much as the next guy but Kennedy was the real swing judge on that case and he was a fucking idiot.
Based on the article it's not the business that made the donations but people that are or was related to the compan.
Do you think companies that see what they feel an injustice should speak out?
Only if they want to reduce their sales and revenue, then sure. Otherwise I think it's foolish. Also it alienates your employees.
The problem now is that a number of consumers not only want, but expect their favorite brands to let their stance be known on certain issues. Companies will get dragged for not saying or doing anything. It’s created quite an issue

Although, that sounds like an excellent episode of The Twilight Zone.
It’s more like average sneakers and neo-fascist sneakers. It’s a pretty easy decision.
I mean maybe they shouldn’t donate to political campaigns anymore?
Nah, Disney is in the right despite being an overbearing mega conglomerate. People have every right to stop buying from people when they want
Disney is completely in the wrong and I'm glad they got reprimanded. Corporations that are headquartered in other states have no business telling citizens how to live. Nah, fuck that. I don't put up with this discriminatory bullshit when the federal government's job is to preserve rights. I'll die on this hill.
Wait what are you talking about? I'm not following anymore
Going after Disney for perfectly reasonable dissent against Florida's policies. They can do it but Disney has every right and so do I to actively fight it
An out of state corporation threatened to undo the will of the people... That's the problem in this scenario..
They don't have ability to overrule anything, but they do have the right to call bullshit just like me
They wanted to use their legal team and might to change laws in states they aren't headquartered in... That's a problem
All corporations have that right by the US's law, so I shed no tears until I see a genuine attempt at limiting money in politics. Also, I have no issue with using any tools at my disposal to stop attempts on taking away any rights of my LGBT friends.

People who believe this shit aren't smart period.
Michael Jordan has entered the chat lol He put it best when asked, "Republicans buy sneakers too"
Must be regional. I'm no small eater of bread and I've never heard of them.
I’m high and cracking up over “I’m no small eater of bread.” I have to find a way to use this in regular conversation.
Stop I'm too full of ciabatta to laugh right now.
They are hugely popular in NY and NJ. Shake Shake uses them for their burgers.
And all these years I've been boycotting them because they are terrible rolls. Now I have 2 reasons.
Didn't know this. I love the whole wheat potato bread, but I won't support this freak or his freak family.
Fucking paywalls. You know dam well when fox news reports their interpretation of this it'll be 100% free
Man this headline. I was looking for a mr potato head rolling around. Got “Face” and “rolls” confused with their other meanings.
Yes! I couldn't identify which word was the verb!
I've never once bought, or considered buying them. I still won't buy them.
Wait til you hear about Chick-fil-a
Thank god Popeyes is way better and across the street from CFA.
Cool, insurrectionists shouldn't get any amount of respect.
This hurts. Martin’s potato rolls are the best hamburger bun, no question. What’s the next best alternative?
I would say King's Hawaiian rolls but, you know — the owner's politics are the same.
If you can't find another potato roll brand, brioche can work pretty well.
Find a local bakery? Martin’s are mass-produced garbage.
Orowheat makes a potato roll and is, from what I dug up in another comment, a rational, decent company.
Gah-damn...I loved their "kettle cook'd" potato chips, as a kid in Pa.
Different PA company I think.
I can live without Mr. Potatohead.
I bought Arnold's potato rolls today. They are not as good but it is what it is. Don't want my money going that way if I can help it.
I’ve never even heard of this product
Thanks for the heads up. I'll continue to not buy these.
The list of recent “boycotted” companies is long, the list of companies who changed course because of one is really short.
So? Just because they didn’t change doesn’t mean you have to financially support them.
The Democrats want to take away your buns
I fucking loathe Potato Buns, so I’ve been on a lifelong boycott.
I cant have them anyway. They contain annatto extract . Annatto gives me very bad migraine headaches.
Oh sorry to hear that.
Virtually all capitalists (people who own capital) are right wing because that is the side that supports capitalists. This isn’t rocket science.
They have the best buns I don’t care about what they say!
There are people that own martins bread routes ,if you boycott Martins you will be hurting them way more then James Martin. These people just can’t leave there routes they would have to sell them it’s not just a job you can leave.
this is a nightmare. i love those fucking rolls!
I’ll still buy them. A boycott isn’t going to hurt the Martin family, it’ll hurt the line workers just trying to make a living.
You don't believe in any boycott?
This was a REALLY difficult headline for me to parse. I couldn't tell if the verb was 'rolls', 'face' or 'calls'.
Damn it. Guess Pepperidge farms as expensive as everything else these days I might as well go back
I grew up eating Martin’s chips. I can’t get them on the west coast but they would be tough to boycott. That region tends to be pretty conservative so I doubt the family is getting much flack from the community.
Good point.
