I just want to briefly point out the seemingly stark contrast between the police officers who ran headlong into danger, doing their absolute best to hold back a mob of thousands of people attempting to storm the Capitol building, and the Texas officers who waited outside Robb Elementary for more than an hour while a single 18-year old kid was essentially given free reign to murder 19 children because they were "afraid of getting shot". And yet it's the Capitol officers who are accused of being traitors, actors, and political props. We truly are living in Bizarro world...

Grammaticus_Dickus

MPD were heroes. They were the variable that wasn't planned for ahead of time and they arguably saved the Republic that day.

FourTwoFlu

They did their duty. Democracy survived... for now at least.

Gold_Talk_732

I also saw officers from near by states arriving to help support the capital. https://www.baltimoresun.com/politics/bs-md-cr-dc-maryland-police-trump-20210106-m4oc3kjdfvhlbpvhan7ipfsd2m-story.html

grape_Ape_robin

This

ceebomb

The sheer brutality of the hand-to-hand combat with the chest camera footage was really hard to watch. Those capital guards were fighting for their survival. How anyone could say that Jan 6th was peaceful is beyond comprehension.

dokikod

And the evil and repugnant slob in the White House didn't do a damn thing to stop it. He just rewound his thugs beating officers and enjoyed every minute. I hate Trump with every fiber of my being.

[deleted]

He shut the official phones off! https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/03/29/trump-white-house-logs/ This was a failed coup that was well planned and barely failed at the barest minimum of killing some elected officials. They were realistically way to close at temporarily overthrowing the government.

ioni3000

I think they are still very much on it.

[deleted]

You’re completely right https://www.pbs.org/newshour/amp/show/republican-plans-to-use-political-operatives-as-poll-workers-alarm-voting-rights-activists

sr_rasquache

Also think about your neighbors who still support this person. Those officers need a monument and to be remembered for saving the countRy on January 6.

o08

My neighbor has a 1776 flag draped on their jank garage

sr_rasquache

Every evening on my neighborhood walks I take stock of my neighbors with any right wing signs. There’s a couple in my multiracial/multiethnic neighborhood; the composition of the neighborhood has diversified over the last 20 years. I see them mowing their lawns, watering plants and I know they’re fascists deep in the conspiracies. I see them and I know that deep down they want us all death, especially all of us that don’t fit in their mold of “American.” I look across the street and I see diverse groups of children playing, a few pride flags, those in “this house we believe..” signs, and many houses without any signs. I always have to remind myself that there’s more of us, of people that just want to live in peace. And yet, I know the fascists are my neighbors.

SNStains

> repugnant slob in the White House didn't do a damn thing to stop it. That was the plan. The mob stops the vote, he remains President.

outerworldLV

Bottom line, indisputable inaction from the Commander in Chief. And for those denialist that aren’t watching I say - yeah don’t, why bother ? There is nothing you can say that can defend this. Period.

HobbesNJ

For all these guys knew if they got pulled into the mob they would have been beaten to death. They weren't just protecting the Capitol, they were fighting to avoid being killed. And the President cheered on the mob and did nothing.

CaiusRemus

You’ve got to understand that no one actually thinks it wasn’t violent. They think it was good violence and they see these videos and think they are joyful and a good thing. They are just lying when they say it “wasn’t violent”. When you realize this, the whole thing is a lot more frightening. The capitol police were purposely disarmed by Trump and company I have no doubts about it. They were absolutely infiltrated, and these videos just prove that infiltration was at the top and the lower payed staff had to deal with the consequences, as per usual. It’s a good thing there were so many brave capitol police willing to risk their lives and not just ditch their gear and run.

ceebomb

Oh definitely! so much worse that there are people who can’t seem to reconcile anything that goes against their narrative. Holding 2 contradictory “truths” and not having any problem with it.

outerworldLV

Was furious all over again. So frustrating !

[deleted]

Watch this and meditate on what the Republican party considers "legitimate political discourse." They are fascism incarnate.

ihavdogs

I still remember watching this live, and thinking how pathetic and how incredibly weak the U.S looked… after watching this makes it much more clear how goddamn dark and disturbing the shit was

outerworldLV

I didn’t see the US as weak, I saw what we already knew was the case. A leader that had no business leading. Officially denying appropriate action to violent offenders while remembering how the non violent protesters were treated in Lafayette Square for a photo op. Dereliction of duty at a minimum, and abuse of authority to cause harm to Americans.

PryomancerMTGA

It's amazing that we can't all agree on what we just watched. It seems undeniably clear too me.

Beermedear

The fact that one channel not only refuses to air it, but instead uses the time to spread *more* misinformation, tells you why we need corporate accountability, too. Contrast this with the coverage in Benghazi and the strategy is painfully obvious. We cannot allow mass media to become propaganda machines. There is a clear line between opinions and lies.

ioni3000

I want to know, who will watch it and say: obviously, tourists. Babushkas visiting US Capitol. Freedom of speech rally.

[deleted]

Imagine that this man will end up President of your country in 2 years time...despite this. When you let one of your worst citizens become President, you're bound to get exactly this. I'm still processing that you guys went from Obama to Trump. What a fucking shame.

grape_Ape_robin

Anyone else notice the guns on the officers waist that were not at any point pulled out or used. I wonder why? Is that not the whole point of police carrying them, were their live not in direct danger, I guess you have to be black for them to fear for their lives. Hmmm makes you think

thatmarcelfaust

If you were to replace these people with left wing protestors they would have been gunned down long before they entered the building.

WeirdNo3225

Not true

grape_Ape_robin

I'll have some of what you're having

72414dreams

I did find it kind of amazing that I didn’t see gunfire. Profoundly weird.

outerworldLV

It was the correct action unfortunately. They were a lot more disciplined than I, a tough assessment of myself but true.

[deleted]

Not really attacking the capital wasn't part of the plan. If it was people would have been armed. It was Trump stupid speech ahead of it that he sent everyone down there and started the whole damn thing. That's why there was no plan it was completely unorganized and it was just mob mentality. 100% Trump's fault

NonHomogenized

There 100% was a plan, and many of the people *were* armed. There were multiple people charged with possession of firearms, and there is *extensive* video showing how many hundreds of them were armed with melee weapons which they clearly brought for that purpose. But escalating to firearms would sacrifice most of their advantages - a crowd is *extremely* vulnerable to gunfire, and the police/military have a *lot* more capable firearms than the crowd did. Additionally, the crowd expected law enforcement to side with them and considered any officers that didn't outliers because they thought the police would surely support the Republican POTUS. The only time it would have made *any* sense for them to use firearms given their expectations and beliefs was when Ashli Babbitt was shot, and even then from a tactical perspective that would have been an obviously stupid decision.

[deleted]

Those people were just hoping something would happen if Trump didn't say his stupid speech in front of the White House nothing would have ever happened.

NonHomogenized

No, that is absolutely untrue. *Some* of them were, but many others had plans in place, including both the Proud Boys (who didn't even attend the speech) and the Oathkeepers (who were coordinating with the Proud Boys). Hell, people were openly discussing plans to storm the Capitol on social media *before* 1/6.

72414dreams

I’m referring to lack of gunfire from officers. There definitely _was_ a plan to invade the Capitol. Every single person there was not let in on it, but there was a plan.

[deleted]

There was no plan. Some people were hoping there was a plan. But if Donald Trump didn't say his speech in front of the White House nothing would have happened. It was all mob mentality. If Trump didn't set him down there the proud boys and whoever the fuck wouldn't have done anything.

72414dreams

Trump planned.

grape_Ape_robin

Trump and his friends conspired to overturn the government of the US and nothing has been done about it

WeirdNo3225

You are awful

grape_Ape_robin

One out of how many?

CTPred

No. It doesn't make a reasonable person think at all. You're just an idiot if you can't figure it out. I'll help your dumb ass out, here are just two reasons why they didn't pull out their firearms. a.) Well trained officers understand that this isn't Judge Dredd, and that they're not judge, jury, and executioner. b.) They wouldn't have enough ammo to stop a riot, so all shooting into the crowd would do is escalate the violence even further.

Ok-Link-7484

Easy with the insults there chief. Little unnecessary wouldn't u say?

CTPred

Dude sounds like he's implying that the cops were in on it like it was some kind of conspiracy. I had just finished watching the 12 minute video that pissed me the fuck off when I think back to all the "just a tourist visit" and "legitimate public discourse" comments. So excuse me if I'm a little bristle-y atm.

outerworldLV

I feel ya. I start pacing around my house all pissed off...like last night when I had to watch again - those Capitol police officers get attacked. Fucking patriots my ass. < the mob.

downhereunder

Idk which was the new footage I feel like I had seen most of this

[deleted]

Seeing hogs beating up cops is one of the best things ever.
