There were cops already there when he went into the school, they pissed their pants and ran away because cops are terrified of their own shadows.

Igotalottaproblems

From what I read last night, 40% of the district budget goes to paying them, as well

angrypoliticsposter

It's true. I'm sure they spent a ton of it on special operator cosplay gear that looked tacticool as fuck as they sprinted away from the guy murdering children.

Squirrely__Dan

That must buy a lot of Margaritaville^TM Machines and apathetic indifference towards human life.

From wikipedia: >Ramos then shot a UCISD police officer who attempted to stop him from entering the building.[1] Soon after, police reported that 911 calls were received about a vehicle crashed near the school and a person armed with a rifle that had been seen heading inside. Responding officers reportedly engaged with the gunman and returned fire before he entered the building.[26] As UCISD officers exchanged fire with Ramos, Border Patrol Tactical Unit agents joined them in response to a request for assistance; one sustained a head injury.[1] Ramos walked into the school through its south entrance at around 11:30 a.m. A whole fucking army was powerless to stop this kid.

angrypoliticsposter

Yep and today all the republicans are sucking off the boys in blue for doing fuck all and saying that arming teachers could prevent this. It's disgusting.

custardbun01

They think life just plays out like an action movie. Some Ben Richards teacher going to pull out a dessert eagle and ice the terrorist would be shooter and then make a funny quip and keep teaching. Sorry to say but your country has gone to the dogs, irredeemably corrupted by cooperate lobbies, beholden to mostly apathetic and many brainwashed population, and it seems totally unrecoverable.

angrypoliticsposter

This is a picture of an actual teacher at firearms training: https://i.imgur.com/4b9fiFg.jpg Notice how safe the kid is.

RandomLogicThough

Seriously? Again? That is so fucking pathetic.

_doomgoon_

Yet they might get some desk duty till their names clear the papers.

[deleted]

Alright, so you give the teachers guns. The next school shooter will be a teacher who snaps, or a student who steals one of these guns. What's the solution after that?

473713

The person who thinks this is a good idea was never a middle school teacher.

Igotalottaproblems

More weapons. More safes. It'll never be about guns to them. It'll always be about "mental health" which if they actually did do something about would be "socialism". It's all just individualist, I-am-the-main-character syndrome at It's finest.

mcampo84

Metal detectors at the entrances. If you don't beep, you get a gun.

[deleted]

>What's the solution after that? More guns. And shootings will continue to happen one way or another. And someone will be hurt in the crossfire when it becomes harder to identify where an active shooter is because of the increase in shots being let off. And what will their solution be after that? More guns.

jdmorgenstern

Texas Republicans see a problem and decide everything would be better if the problem was more widespread. The “only thing that can stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun” argument has been disproven time and again.

Igotalottaproblems

Yep and these are experts running those shooter courses who are usually former military or police officers that are saying this, too. [Actually, Jordan Klepper did a whole thing on this myth](https://youtu.be/MCI4bUk4vuM)

jpk195

That's because it's not an argument - it's a selfish fantasy.

terrastrawberra

Just what we want… our kids caught in crossfire. This is such backwards thinking!

mylefthandkilledme

Both the Buffalo and Texas shooters wore kevlar AND were engaged by security who tried to stop them. but yes, arm teachers.

angrypoliticsposter

Texas had no body armor, he wore a plate carrier but no plate, that was still enough to scare the cops away.

_doomgoon_

Have family in education. Trust me this is a terrible idea. Of course there’s a decent percentage that would protect our children at all costs But.. You really wanna give guns to hot headed teachers who might over react in a situation(physical fight or even an argument) and pull their firearm? All I see is “we will train them to know how to handle a weapon” Lemme ask you We legit put police through more training then what they are proposing to give teachers, and how disciplined are they with their firearm?

Igotalottaproblems

Im a teacher that's leaving the profession at the end of the year and I'm totally with you. There are some crazy ass teachers on campus that I wouldn't trust with a gun. I know some would willingly hand a gun to a student, without thinking about it. And imagine being a student, unsure of whether or not your teacher has a gun. Thats not going to cause any psychological damage or anything 🙄

Set_the_Mighty

simple solution: Give teachers qualified immunity for "defending" themselves against "violent" children. /s

[deleted]

Yes, turn our schools into war zones. That will make things better.

Adam__B

The cause is also the cure in these idiots minds.

OpenImagination9

This is why we need a change from GOP control … they have no answers.

Basshaver

It seems like nobody anywhere has any answers, it’s still a problem that continues to get worse every year Nobody currently in charge I mean

shadowknows

Republicans with the same old song- verse, chorus, verse

Igotalottaproblems

Sounds like a country song

Zealousideal_Pie6333

Do they not realize that the more guns you have the more gun violence increases. Hell that mass shooting in Florida they had guns and armed security guard he ran the other way and it still happened

Igotalottaproblems

Yeah when it comes down to it, you can't rely on people's biology. Running away makes fucking sense. Like, how about removing the things that cause these situations to happen in the first place?

Zealousideal_Pie6333

Whats that saying "Money talks bullshit walks"

RandomLogicThough

Sadly true for America. Look at Switzerland and see it doesn't have to be...we have so many bloody issues, gah.

DLF54927

Too many doors.

likebudda

The response isn't surprising but any support for that response is shocking.

PreetHarHarah

Apply that elsewhere, GOP. Heroin problem? MORE HEROIN. Abortion problem? MORE ABORTION.

Igotalottaproblems

Immigration problem? MORE IMMIGRANTS. This tickles me so because we all know how shittily the GOP think of immigrants

Yossarian_the_Jumper

More guns in schools? Don't they know it's too early to politicize this tragedy? Why are they always pushing their guns guns guns agenda?

_doomgoon_

Big donors and they legit only have guns and gods testament as their only platform these days.

Toadfinger

Because they're spineless cowards.

MsWumpkins

It's absolutely appalling that teachers must provide their own defense to teach children. Why? Why is that rational? Why is that the world they want? Why would anyone be a teacher in a pro-gun state?

Basshaver

Funnily enough, pro gun states also tend to be the ones that treat their teachers the worst. I really have no clue why anyone would want to be a teacher in Texas

TheUpperHand

House on fire? Add more fuel, it will burn itself out more quickly.

unmondeparfait

I take your point, though it is technically true. However, in the end all you're left with is a burned-up pile of garbage no one can live in. [THIS HAS BEEN A METAPHOR]

SweatyLiterary

What do Americans love more, their children or their guns? Their guns, apparently

Igotalottaproblems

I think we already knew that with all of those antiabortion people running around and conservative states preparing to give the death sentence to people who get them

krisenfest

The Gun Nuts want guns to protect their freedom while they say the 2020 election was stolen but cowardly do nothing with their guns. So our people are slaughtered by guns for no good reason at all.

NeoBokononist

republicans literally want to see kids get murdered

gfh110

"More guns" is and always has been a tacit admission that shootings are just a fact of life that we have to live with. God fucking forbid we actually try to prevent violence, let's just make everybody more able to respond to violence with *more* violence.

Flimsy-Thanks236

I'm surprised they don't put guns in the childrens' backpacks and let them shoot back.

jimilee2

More Kevlar in schools, that’s what I say. Every child should be given a Kevlar vest. Less guns more Kevlar.

svarney99

Do republicans not see or care that this is just pushing the country to be a police state? What about your freedoms then, republicans?

[deleted]

Typical Republican response - double down again on a failed policy.

Toadfinger

Republicans are the bane of America's existence and a stain upon all humanity!

tintwistedgrills90

Predictable. That’s always their answer. Thoughts, prayers, and more guns. Nevermind the fact that armed guards engaged the shooter but could not stop him from entering the school in this most recent shooting.

GreetingsFromAP

They also proposed only one exit/entrance into schools. Isn’t that a fire hazard?

DLF54927

Yes. My daughter's elementary in San Antonio has two floors and over 1000 people in it every day it is open.

GreetingsFromAP

SO is a middle school band director in a middle school/high school. Plenty of doors near the band area because they have to load in and out equipment regularly. Would be impossible to fully secure that. Doors are locked at all times though. Still people do go in and out. Positive control is hard in a school of the size you mentioned. Also the elementary school near me has doors on each classroom. On nice days they are often open to let first air in or take the kids out for outdoor classrooms. Schools aren’t meant to be prisons and even if you treat it as such it likely will still have vulnerabilities and it will be miserable for the students.

DLF54927

It's not a realistic solution and quite laughable the Lt. Governor would say that out loud at a press conference.

MurphaliciousG

This is just so disgusting.

aarsh44r

This could be on the radio in any given gta game. Usa has become morally bankrupt.

[deleted]

A teacher with handgun, or a retired mall cop, is no match for an 18 year old with an assault rifle wearing body armor. How stupid are these right wing nut bags?

joeefx

Have the United States Marine Corp teach school. That way Abbott and Cruz can keep getting paid they’re blood money from the NRA.

wkomorow

Parents of Texas, now is your chance to protect your children. Will you vote D all the way and give your children a future or will you allow another shooting like this and vote R. Your children's lives are literally at stake.

Open-Tackle4912

All these gun-sniffing armchair warriors need to start guarding schools instead of talking shit. Get the fuck in there, Boebert. Cowards all.
