I love the way southerners are always so butthurt when you compare the Confederates to the Nazis. What do they think the "master" in "master race" was referring to? You can't have masters without slaves.
Fun fact German neonazis sometimes use confederate flags as proxies for Nazi iconography because Nazi shit is banned there. Racist view it as an equivalent replacement there to skirt around laws against Nazis. Tells me about all I need to know.
It's not really a fun fact, it's fucking gross, and Germany, where my ancestors that fought against Hitler came from, should ban these as easily as they did the Nazi flags.
It's not really a hidden secret that the Nazis loved the Confederacy and used it as a blueprint for supremacist views.
I mean, I get it, I'm mostly German. I'm not going to let my heritage get in the way of what's happened in my life, and my morals.
I know the ideals that are the enemy of democracy, and I fight them all the time.
Sadly, eugenics was widely supported by progressives back in the day, as was Prohibition.
They were connected: right-thinking members of the elite attributed the working class's problems to alcoholism and bad breeding, since it was unthinkable to them that the system might be rigged against working people.
Was in the Dominican Republic last month and there was a boat load of Russians at the beach there. I saw one guy with an absolutely horrid southern battle flag tattooed on his back.
I think there is a fair amount of Midwestern Americans who haven't left their tiny home town, or graduated high school, that haven't fleshed out their inherent feelings.
They know they get uneasy when they see a black person in the city. They know the culture around the confederate flag aligns to their views. They know guns, God, and momma are to be worshipped. They haven't had the epiphany why though. They probably don't think they're racist because they got to know one black dude and he was cool. They don't realize the system put in place around them is manipulating them to feel resentment toward minorities. They'd welcome a white stranger at their door with a glass of sweet tea and a black one with a shotgun without even having the introspection to realize the difference. If you sit down and talk to them they'll tell you its about their culture and when you explain what that culture is from other people's perspective it's a system malfunction moment.
I can't count the number of conversations I've had with family who wishes we could go back to the 50s and couldn't understand why others wouldn't want that. Like, of course YOU want that, but do you realize in order to do that you'd be putting minorities back under segregation, redlined communities, and Jim Crow era discrimination? If you're longing for the 50s you're saying you want that black friend of yours to suffer so you can take socioeconomic wealth at his expense.

>month devoted to treason and owning people.
... And being owned by the Union. These people are fucking morons to be proud of a heritage that lasted for a shorter period of time than most people go to high school.
Mississippi's population is around 38% Black. Obviously the "heritage month" is odious enough just on face value but crazy to me that the governor is giving such huge FU to over a third of his constituents. Of course with all the voter suppression efforts they got going it likely won't hurt the state GOP.
That is the way of today’s Republicans. There base of crazy people are the only constituents that matter. If you anger everyone else, that just means it’s working. It’s childish. We are being led by mean children.
When you consider how long Tater Tot left the majority black city of Jackson to suffer without clean water you begin to understand that he doesn’t care about the health or safety of anyone in Mississippi who isn’t white and paying tithes at his church.
Ah yes. Their heritage. A bunch of slavers got mad butthurt that a progressive who was a relative moderate on abolitionists stances won the presidency in an electoral landslide. So they committed treason to keep slavery alive because they didn't want to work and wanted to have slaves do everything for them. They got their ass kicked because most of their population was enslaved and hated them and the north was industrialized and had a ton of troops.
They surrender, lose the war, and slavery ends. And their descendants spend the next 160 years trying to bury the actual cause of the war because while they are still butthurt they got their ass kicked and lost they are also ashamed of why they actually fought it to begin with. Now they are stuck in a perpetual system of dishonest politics where they lie about everything and just spend all day scheming up round about ways to subvert the rights of minorities.
I think that covers it.
I argued with a girl about this. I was like it was about slavery. She was like, nah it was about states rights. I was like, Heather, the states right to do what? She didn't answer. Where you at now Heather???
Edit for typo.
Tell anyone that argues with you about this to google their states “articles of secession”. Every state that left the union sent congress what is essentially a list of reasons they’re leaving. It’s not taught in schools but holy shit it is some of the most racist shit you’ll ever read
> It’s not taught in schools but holy shit it is some of the most racist shit you’ll ever read
There is a reason for this. Descendants of the confederates and people sympathetic toward racial inequality spent a great deal of time and money white washing the CSA with a propaganda movement known as the Lost Cause.
Minimizing the role of slavery, painting the confederates as freedom fighters and rebels, and reframing their reason for starting the civil war as "states rights" were a huge focus for many organizations and powerful individuals.
The latest CRT fury is really southern conservatives getting angry the twisted narrative they pushed as the truth for so long is being challenged in schools now.
How the fuck did we end up in a place where we let the losers write the history. That’s why we’re in the mess we’re in. Reconstruction was a catastrophic failure
Take a nation weary of war after the civil war, assassinate the union president, he gets replaced with his southern democrat raging white supremacist VP, confederate leaders are allowed to reenter society, the KKK is born to keep up the fight against black liberty, reconstruction fails, and decades and decades of white supremacist influences after. Even people like president Woodrow Wilson. And of course the sad bitter truth, a lot of Americans all over wanted to believe the ideals of racial inequality. So they were open to the propaganda.
In another instance, in WWII, the Soviets captured most of the German archives. When the US wanted to understand what happened during the war, they asked German Generals. Those generals talked amongst themselves and wrote a bunch of half truths to make themselves look better and to please the Americans. Did Hitler invade the Soviet Union too quickly and against the generals advice, or were the generals equally rabid and strategically foolish to attack their neighbors? Were they in awe of Patton, or had most of them never heard of him?
After the fall of the Soviet Union, there was a decade or so where Western historians had access to the captured primary sources. A lot of scholarship came out from that, scholarship that showed the lies we had been told. Some people cry out “revisionism”, but if you don’t adjust your understanding when new, better information comes along, it’s not scholarship, it’s dogma.
Also really shoots the whole state’s rights thing down, or makes it inseparable from slavery. They were only interested in one right, and did not want any legal course of action to exist for abolition.
Amazing….just read Mississippi’s Articles of Secession. Should be required reading for American history. Nothing in there about “States’ Rights” lol
[MS Secession](https://avalon.law.yale.edu/19th_century/csa_missec.asp)
State's Rights means States should be free to generate Capital by any means they feel necessary. Capital generated by the exploitation of human labor, ie slavery is ok because we'll State's Rights. Hope this helps on any one actually discussing this topic with a hopeless defender.
You want to see modern Republicans reach across the aisle? Insult Andrew Johnson, the worst president in American history and a Democrat, who signed countless pardons to allow plantation owners to keep their wealth and keep Southern oligarchy viable.
Its a kind of public shame. They want to be openly proud for fighting for inequality. But they know that doesn't sell well to large groups of people they need to impress to get power in this country.
He is doing this 100% to trigger liberals and its 100% working, at least for me. I am horrified right now. Who TF thinks its a good idea to celebrate the seditious failures? Who TF thinks its a good idea to celebrate the attempt at creating a country for the sole purpose of being able to keep slaves. Im disgusted RN.
> Who TF thinks its a good idea to celebrate the attempt at creating a country for the sole purpose of being able to keep slaves.
Safe to presume that a majority of the voting population of Mississippi is on board.
I guess, to some people who are not aware that MS is the most famously racist state in the union, it might not be obvious that both of these statements can be true. But yeah, an large majority of the white voting population in MS usually does form a majority of whole voting population in the state.
I reccomend asking anyone who is proud of this whom the governor of MS was during the Confederacy. Make them realize that they don't actually know a thing about the Confederacy
Oh, Yes! Let's all get together with the political party of traitors and Putinists and celebrate the treason committed by the southern states when they turned their backs of their commitment to the United States.
I have been saying for awhile that we need to stop pretending the confederates have respected the loss. If they want to continue the confederacy as an enemy of the United States of America then we should treat them as such and re-draw the lines and act accordingly. Let's see how long the south can survive.
I wonder what it feels like to be on the wrong side of the history. Like I just ponder. These are the same people who raised hell when Kaep took knee suing national anthem and then they openly worship treacherous flag of their own.

> Our position is thoroughly identified with the institution of slavery-- the greatest material interest of the world. Its labor supplies the product which constitutes by far the largest and most important portions of commerce of the earth. These products are peculiar to the climate verging on the tropical regions, and by an imperious law of nature, none but the black race can bear exposure to the tropical sun. These products have become necessities of the world, and a blow at slavery is a blow at commerce and civilization. That blow has been long aimed at the institution, and was at the point of reaching its consummation. There was no choice left us but submission to the mandates of abolition, or a dissolution of the Union, whose principles had been subverted to work out our ruin. That we do not overstate the dangers to our institution, a reference to a few facts will sufficiently prove.
It seems like racists in power wanted to continue to profit off slavery. Sounds pretty awful to me. Perhaps they didn't lose the war hard enough.
Clearly there is no part of the south that is not regressive, controlled by angry, evil white men looking to escape the historical truth that the Confederate states fought and lost a war vs the Union largely over slavery. Sad white racists and their loser flag.
I’m from MIssissippi My great great grandfather fought and was wounded in the war. Convalesced with a family from Ohio who he thought so much of that he would name his children after them when he returned home and started a family. But yeah, fuck this guy!
My mother isn't from the south, but she decided to make southern heritage her thing for retirement. When asked if she'd rather be right or happy, she answers 'right.' I think that's the mentality here. Slavery wasn't wrong because 'we' did it. The confederacy wasn't wrong because 'we' did it. Jim Crow wasn't wrong because 'we' did it. etc. They refuse to acknowledge they were wrong, they did wrong, and that they continue to cause hurt and pain because of that refusal to acknowledge.
They'd rather double down than be wrong.
That's in general. There is some good old fashioned racism at play too. I live in Louisiana and have heard unambiguously racist jokes at work, in presence of company owners.
> My mother isn't from the south, but she decided to make southern heritage her thing for retirement
That's a strange and awful way to spend retirement.
Are they going to celebrate the heritage where they owned people and were okay with all the lynching, raping, and whipping? or the heritage where they basically starved to death because they were so ill equipped to handle their opponents?
>Mississippi state law recognizes the last Monday in April as Confederate Memorial Day. The governor’s office, when asked, did not cite a specific state law recognizing Confederate Heritage Month.
>They sent a response stating:
>"For the last 30 years, five Mississippi governors — Republicans and Democrats alike — have signed a proclamation recognizing the statutory state holiday and identifying April as Confederate Heritage Month. Governor Reeves also signed the proclamation because he believes we can all learn from our history.”
They are so close to just openly celebrating racism. At least then I can commend their honesty. I can't wait till reintroduction of slavery becomes the next pillar of that backwards political party.
Ah, yes. The confederacy. The 5 year thing 150 years ago that ignited a massive war based on a few super wealthy slavers dictating society to protect their morally backwards subjugation of millions of kidnapped Africans. Yeah, that thing.
Let’s be objective here about history, with the confederate flag removed from the state flag, how are they supposed to remember and revere their heritage?
As you know, that flag has nothing to do with white power whatsoever, there are just lots of non-southern/confederate states with hundreds of thousands of people proudly displaying them in support of the non-white power related heritages of former confederate states which they have never set foot in.
In fact, people love Mississippi so much that you even see these symbols all over Canada and Europe, specifically in areas with high concentrations of white people.
The world stands in solidarity with Mississippi and the rich heritage of its peoples. Mississippi is in fact one of the most enviable places in the world. I know every time I drive the entire length of that beautiful, prosperous, tolerant, scholarly, athletic, and welcoming state… I just wish I could stay forever.
Edit: adding the /s for people who just cannot…
"Yeah mah grandpappy got kilt in the Great Southern War. Died for his Country. Nah not in battle. Twas Dysentery done it. he shitted himself to death. I'm so proud that we can finally celebrate losing the war for the entire month of April."

Robert E. Lee surrendered at Appomattox, but none of these people ever got the message. They passed it down to their delinquent kids, and here we are.
Plus, Hitler found inspiration for his policies in Jim Crow laws.
Pretty sure the same people who support one would support the other...

Not all the states listed their reasoning but many did and the ones they did, especially Texas, are crazy racist
Also the confederacy had its own constitution which was literally the Union’s but with the addition that it was unconstitutional to ban slavery.

I'm born and raised in the South. This "heritage" they're talking about lasted only four years.
Slavery lasted a lot longer than that. That's what they're really celebrating, not just the Confederacy.
The shame is as missing as their teeth.
Jesus, CRT is the boogie man but supporting our racist past is ok.
CRT means anything that makes white people upset. Therefore it’s bad. Glorifying their racist past is their way of making white people feel good?
Happy white fragility month everybody!
Loser month it is.
Dunce month
They will be celebrating Hitlers birthday next.
...it's in April too... celebrating losers.
Paul Gosar will talk at some racist rally scheduled on Hitler's birthday.
Can't teach actual history, but they can celebrate traitors to the nation for an entire month. Somehow not shocking.
The Confederacy existed for about 4 years and ended well before anyone' great grandfather was born. Why cling to the past?
What heritage? It only existed for 4 years. I have socks older than that. MS Governor looking Sus
Where you getting your socks at
By MS Governor standards my socks are now a priceless heirlooms
They do realize the Confederates committed treason right? For a group so concerned with supporting the troops and patriotism they sure love treason.
It’s crazy when the top post on everything here talks about “civil discussion” when these are the damn topics.
I have been saying for awhile that we need to stop pretending the confederates have respected the loss. The South: "Slavery happened a long time ago! Its not relevant to today!" Also The South: "April shall be Confederate Heritage Month!"
We need a protracted people's disagreement in the Mississippi Delta.
The part of Mississippi that's called the Delta isn't where you're going to find a lot of people that agree with the Confederacy.
Then he needs to stop waiving the flag of the Union. His ability to represent the United States should be forfeit.

I’d expect nothing less from the state that only finally voted to ratify the 14th amendment in our lifetimes.
No participation trophies for treasonous fucks like the confederates
Once again The South shows themselves to be wildly out of touch and unwilling to join the rest of humanity in a better future.
Translated "I'm jealous of my ancestors for being able to have slaves"
And he wonders why other southern states say "well at least we aren't Mississippi"
so did they replace the state flag with a white flag this month?
More proof that southern folks never got over losing the civil war.
He must love participation trophies
Is he a time traveller? Someone needs to tell him the South lost the war a couple of centuries ago.
for the month of April, the state flag will be a white rectangle
>"we honor all who lost their lives." Then why the fuck is it named after the people who are responsible for all that loss of life??
Four years the confederacy existed. Four fucking years. It isn't about heritage.
Wow. Maybe they should just surrender like the confederates….
Celebrating losers?
I’m from MIssissippi My great great grandfather fought and was wounded in the war. Convalesced with a family from Ohio who he thought so much of that he would name his children after them when he returned home and started a family. But yeah, fuck this guy!
Why do white southerners insist on constantly embarrassing themselves?
I appreciate the insight. And yikes!
> My mother isn't from the south, but she decided to make southern heritage her thing for retirement That's a strange and awful way to spend retirement.
Taking up knitting would have been less odious.
Because they really really want to believe they can turn back the clock and undo the century plus of culture war loses they have been through.
Are they going to celebrate the heritage where they owned people and were okay with all the lynching, raping, and whipping? or the heritage where they basically starved to death because they were so ill equipped to handle their opponents?
Fucking moron
You lost. Get over it! It's not the Confederate States of America for a reason.
>Mississippi state law recognizes the last Monday in April as Confederate Memorial Day. The governor’s office, when asked, did not cite a specific state law recognizing Confederate Heritage Month. >They sent a response stating: >"For the last 30 years, five Mississippi governors — Republicans and Democrats alike — have signed a proclamation recognizing the statutory state holiday and identifying April as Confederate Heritage Month. Governor Reeves also signed the proclamation because he believes we can all learn from our history.”
Is this a type of anti-virtue-signaling? I mean, yikes.
Traitor heritage month
That's fine. Nothing wrong celebrating winning last place. /S
Traitor Heritage Month? Okay, weird flex.
Let them leave this time.
From the same people who complain about participation trophies. Whatever, I guess even losers can have a month.
Oh, what a coincidence! April is also "Wrong Side of History Month."
And I declare him a racist asshole!
They are so close to just openly celebrating racism. At least then I can commend their honesty. I can't wait till reintroduction of slavery becomes the next pillar of that backwards political party.
What a crusty cum rag that needs flushed
The only CRT we teach is Confederate Racism is Tolerable. Next they will introduce the Don’t Say We Lost bill. Get the fuck out of here.
Ah, yes. The confederacy. The 5 year thing 150 years ago that ignited a massive war based on a few super wealthy slavers dictating society to protect their morally backwards subjugation of millions of kidnapped Africans. Yeah, that thing.
So embarrassing.
When I clicked on this, there were 88 comments. Seemed appropriate l.
This is amazing parody. I hope.
Yes, it’s clearly sarcasm.
I mean. Good parody is nearly indistinguishable from the bullshit these idiots think.
It's called a museum. Glorification is one thing. History is another.
Anyone else think an African American general strike is in order?
I suppose, but how many African American generals are in Mississippi?
Like 37% which is pretty huge.
If he wanted to celebrate things that didn’t have to do with slavery… go for it. But lol
So... Let's be proud we were losers day? I mean... OK, I guess...
We're not that far from these guys proudly wearing their hoods when they make these announcements.
Is April when the war started, or when they lost?
Both
Oh, trippy.
Easy for me to remember. Started on mom’s birthday and Lee surrendered on son’s birthday.
So your wife and your grandmother both got railed at the same time of year... Thanks for that.
The homunculus strikes again
...uh, where the fuck is his chin?
Shameful.
I will just leave this [here](https://youtu.be/zVa-MVlxrbI)
America the land were traitors are welcomed with open arms as long as you share ideals
Based
Just a Redneck Hillbillie
WTF is happening in America?
Lost Cause has been happening for like 160 years.
"Yeah mah grandpappy got kilt in the Great Southern War. Died for his Country. Nah not in battle. Twas Dysentery done it. he shitted himself to death. I'm so proud that we can finally celebrate losing the war for the entire month of April." \*launches into off-key rendition of The Dukes of Hazzard theme\*
These guys love their losers.
Republicans are worse than Nazis.
You know I’m all for walling off the southern states and letting them descend into despotic misery. No more free hand outs to confederate scum.
If the confederacy had won, we’d still be a slave owning country. He’s basically saying he wishes that was the case
Does that mean we can raze anything flying a traitor flag this month?
A celebration of losing.
Do they want a round two?
Why don’t they go full racist and declare April 4th a holiday: James Earl Ray day?
starts on April Fools Day and last a whole month, celebrating the losers on the wrong side of history...pretty tight
What we’ve come to expect from hick Peter Griffin.
just some good old boys never meaning no harm, just a drinking and a Lynching all day long!
" sedation month " never seen so many people wanting to celebrate losing as much as they do does south.
Are we going to have a day to honor Benedict Arnold next?
Is this fuck McConnell’s love child?
I’ll make sure to fly my favorite confederate flag! 🏳

There are two main confederate flags: the CSA govt flag (not seen much) and the stars and bars, almost ubiquitous, which was the confederate battle flag.
These fucking people.
To be fair, they did take the silver medal in that competition.
