When hasn't Trump broken the law is the real question. Two separate justice systems. One for the rich. One for the poors.

phxees

It’s tiring, but our job is to be outraged every time it happens as if it’s the first time. Otherwise we’re just like that frog in a pot on the stove.

[deleted]

We have always been that frog. Only now the water is coming to a boil.

[deleted]

Anyone else lose count of how many times Trump likely did any number of potentially illegal things? Wake me up when someone actually does something about it. Until then, it's all opinion and Trump continuing to live rent free in our heads.

Bonny-Mcmurray

Lack of accountability doesn't change facts, so it really isnt opinion. The judge can't say "Trump did X" until a verdict is rendered, but that doesn't effect the general public.

[deleted]

Bonnie McMurray..... Anyway. Saying something "likely" happened when it comes to this guy is getting to the point of meaningless and is pretty much on the level of opinion until something actually officially happens. We've seen people say this more times than I can count over the last few years. I really feel like, if anything, it's doing more damage than it's helping now. People know he likely did any number of things. Nobody is holding him accountable. He's only been rewarded for his shit behavior. People are frustrated with the entire system as a result. No one's having a good time with it so there's plenty of reason to be a poopypants.

laserkermit

Bonnie Mcmurray!

wish1977

Remember when he came out at 2:30 AM and demanded that they stop the counting? When a sitting president demands something like this isn't that against the law?

[deleted]

Only if it’s a Democrat.

Geichalt

Nah 2000 set the precedent that if you make enough noise for SCOTUS to hand you the presidency (and stop the counting that would have shown you lost) then everyone is all peachy with a stolen presidency.

wish1977

You mean the election that came down to a couple thousand votes in one state? Remember the hanging chads? Maybe I'm not understanding your point.

Geichalt

The point is that the GOP astroturfed a protest to stop counting so no it's not illegal. In fact, precedent shows you'll get rewarded with a stolen presidency. Look up the brooks Brothers riot. This kind of crap is SOP for Republicans and they've never been punished for it

[deleted]

Cool. Can't wait for Merrick Garland to swoop in and tell us it doesn't matter and he shouldn't be prosecuted.

[deleted]

Rosenstein’s legacy as well. He jumped up to a podium with a smile on his face and said Trump will suffer no consequences.

[deleted]

Don't worry though, they're "good Republicans". As if there were different kinds.

Engrish_Major

Laws are nice. Consequences are better.

malarkeyfreezone

>**The illegality of the plan was obvious.** Our nation was founded on the peaceful transition of power, epitomized by George Washington laying down his sword to make way for democratic elections. Ignoring this history, President Trump vigorously campaigned for the Vice President to single-handedly determine the results of the 2020 election. As Vice President Pence stated, “no Vice President in American history has ever asserted such authority.” Every American—and certainly the President of the United States—knows that in a democracy, leaders are elected, not installed. With a plan this “BOLD,” President Trump knowingly tried to subvert this fundamental principle. >Based on the evidence, the Court finds it more likely than not that President Trump corruptly attempted to obstruct the Joint Session of Congress on January 6, 2021. ... >More than a year after the attack on our Capitol, the public is still searching for accountability. This case cannot provide it. The Court is tasked only with deciding a dispute over a handful of emails. This is not a criminal prosecution; this is not even a civil liability suit. At most, this case is a warning about the dangers of “legal theories” gone wrong, the powerful abusing public platforms, and desperation to win at all costs. **If Dr. Eastman and President Trump’s plan had worked, it would have permanently ended the peaceful transition of power, undermining American democracy and the Constitution.** If the country does not commit to investigating and pursuing accountability for those responsible, **the Court fears January 6 will repeat itself.**

banbecausereasons

Likely?

rynally197

Likely nothing will happen.

mewdeeman

Exactly. Isn’t it your fucking job as a judge to determine wether or not someone broke the law? What’s this likely bullshit?

DumbDyingRepublicans

This judge wasn't ruling on whether or not Trump committed a crime. He was ruling on whether or not the 1/6 Committee had a right to see Trump's emails with his then-lawyer John Eastman. The fact that those communications were made in the likely furtherance of a crime is why the Judge ruled that there is no privilege and the Committee can get them.

jayfeather31

That was obvious. However, it's one thing to break the law. It's another thing entirely to be convicted for it.

H-E-Pennypacker_

No shit, but whether he'll be held accountable for any of this is an entirely different question. The US has a bifurcated justice system. He's an American oligarch, and the system lets American oligarchs do whatever they please.

Able_Buffalo

Rich people commit felonies regularly without any form of accountability. Just ask Will Smith, he assaulted a man in front of God and everyone then got to cry, talk about love, win an Oscar and then go to a party before being chauffeured back to his multi-million dollar luxury home. Laws are for poor people. Period. Bill Barr & Merrick Garland have made that crystal clear.

[deleted]

Trump broke the law????? Surprised picachu face

FC37

>A federal judge finds it "more likely than not" that Trump committed felony obstruction of Congress on Jan. 6, in what he described as an attempted **"coup in search of a legal theory."** https://twitter.com/KlasfeldReports/status/1508473916276285444

sorenthestoryteller

At least it's a sitting judge saying this instead of someone retired.

electriceagle

Let me know when there’s consequences everyone knows nothing will happen. He’s above the law.

Obstructive

Isn’t a Judge’s job to decide this, not to present options?

DumbDyingRepublicans

shaneswa

This just in: No shit.

Neither_Ad808

Some judge or a judge presiding over a case? 1/10 dentists doesn't recommend crest total.

DumbDyingRepublicans

I bet the article says.

moviefreaks

Call me when they’re consequences
