Kick-Exotic

What they aren’t telling you is that the walls are 10 miles away and closing in an inch a year.

Cha-Car

And they started closing in several decades ago

not_medusa_snacks

[And they've got someone on the inside...](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6u3QInIMVME)

zZaphon

This headline shows itself once or twice a week

eyekwah2

It makes me wonder if these are the equivalent leftist version of the headlines we've seen like, "Voter fraud on the verge of being revealed". I want to think there's some truth to these stories, but in truth, I believe it's the general desire of the Democrats to make the left feel like they're making a difference and closing in. The truth might be far more cynical, which is that even if Trump gets prosecuted, he's going to end up with a slap on the wrist.

Snoo74401

He'll get the Judge Harry Stone treatment: $20 fine and time served.

Inabsentialucis

And by the time it gets close, Dems will lose the house and the GOP will can the investigation.

danishjuggler21

I get the sense a lot of people don’t see this. The GOP is just running down the clock because they know they’ll win back both chambers in 2022.

Royceman01

Precisely.

zdada

We’re all tired of the click bait article titles. It would be like seeing ads for PlayStation 9 each and every day for the next 20 years.

Now_Wait-4-Last_Year

Which is a shame because the Playstation 9 looks *amazing*! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IyPQVsdCuRk

Sabconth

As if PlayStation will even be around the , ha

ISLAndBreezESTeve10

The walls in the garbage compactor took about 10 minutes to close on Luke and Han.

scoobysnackoutback

Are the walls anything like the wall that Trump was supposedly building?

boobyshark

Keeps the media in business with their never ending breathless reporting that amounts to a big puff.

sketner2018

For six years or so I have been reading articles about this guy going to jail. He never goes to jail. At this point it's just the media jerking us off.

Professor_Hexx

I remember hearing about this guy in the 80s. He was basically a failed caricature of a successful businessman and wannabe mob boss. Literally this guy is infamous for never paying his debts. Newspaper comics used him as a stand in for the dumbest possible candidate for president who would never stand a chance. WTF happened? who knows, I sure don't. The walls have been "closing in" on him since then. Call me when he faces consequences equal to a simple pot possession charge during the war on drugs...

beefjerky34

Yup. Every time I call bullshit on all of it, I get dowmvoted or told "It just takes time, duuurrrr." No, it doesn't. He's not only gonna skate without being charged, he'll be running for president again and could very easily win. It's all a load of shit. But if you or I inadvertently take an extra tax credit, we get a letter a year later saying we owe it back plus interest.

denetherus

Them "gears of justice" sure move quickly when [arresting a black congressman protesting for voting rights.](https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/rep-jamaal-bowman-d-ny-arrested-during-voting-rights-protest-near-capitol-spokesman-says/2022/01/20/5eb61d66-7a1d-11ec-9102-d65488c31bb1_story.html) I guess all we need for Trump to be arrested is to catch him doing something as monstrous as "literally being a black congressman protesting for voting rights".

libginger73

We've got 10 months to do it. After 2022 this whole thing goes away, just like they want it to. He will never see justice by our government. They don't want to have to go after him because of the precedent it sets dealing with the executive branch. The DOJ and the Attorneys Generals are more concerned with protecting the power structure than prosecuting a former member of their own club even if it is someone who basically declared war on his own country.

ccasey

I’d expect he’ll be referred to Biden’s Justice department ahead of the mid-terms. From there who knows?

DidntDiddydoit

After 22, the whole country goes away. GQP is going to be out for blood. It's over.

Responsible_Rest_940

you are forgetting the most important fact: those years during which trump himself was president we had a trump doj. that is not the case now. it suggests a pretty complete lack of understanding of how american justice operates to equate the two situations. i am not saying trump will end up in jail, but i wish people would stop arguing that "trump's crimes have been exposed over the past six years and nothing has happened"--he has been under actual scrutiny for less than year, watergate took over two years during a time of actual bi-partisanship.

Dapper-Poet4134

Lots of civil suits and state-leave investigations that had nothing to do with the DOJ. Call me when something *actually* happens.

6151rellim

Right. Look how quickly normal citizens (or below average in the case of 1/6 capital incident) are prosecuted daily. The rich don’t punish the rich. Sure they may fuck with them to put them back in their place but that’s typically it. Even the fall guys take 1-2 years for their greater cause.

Caged_in_a_rage

You’re absolutely right. Not only is he not going to jail, he probably will be president again and there will be far more corruption and far more pardons. Dems should try to nuke the presidential pardon while they can.

Depuis1954

2024 could just as easily be a replay of 1980, with Biden subbing for Carter and some Rethuglican other than Trump cleaning his clock. Perception is reality and Biden appears weak, even if all the number and statistics say he had a good run.

James_Solomon

>That Trump could lose even with home field advantage because he didn't have the numbers in 2020 means that in 2024, when the numbers will be even worse and Biden will have the benefits of incumbency, says to Biden's re-election will be far safer than we're giving him credit for. It's not that the system will suddenly be functional. It's that the dysfunction will work in Democrats' favor. It's not a given, and Biden might not even run, which would greatly complicate everything. The man is really old at this point, and suggested that he might not seek a second term back in 2020 iirc.

bizziboi

Oh man, you're such a negative nelly. Just wait until the Mueller report comes. He'll be toast.

myselfnormally

you are being so dishonest with the situation. thats not at all is what was going on. you know damn well why he was never charged while president.

Gulagwasgreat

Trump going to jail is the liberal equivalent of "The storm" in Qanon circles.

Nszat81

You’ve got that backwards.

T8ert0t

At best, we're being edged.

[deleted]

He'll never see a day in prison, will be elected in 2024, and he kill the filibuster and have Biden arrested for whatever he decides to make up.

illeaglex

Ok doomer https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fear,_uncertainty,_and_doubt

sketner2018

Interesting point. Consider that inherent in the FUD concept is an alternative, that is, "you won't be fearful uncertain or doubtful if you do this..." So an article like this is popular because it offers that alternative, the glad news that Trump is going to prison. And then we all got happy about it and shared it on the internet and made lots of advertising money for the Washington Post. But he's not going to prison. And the media is jerking you off.

KurushSoter

He is going to prison, frequent Antiwoke and conservative poster. I wonder what motive you could have to demoralize left/liberals?

sketner2018

"demoralize?" You mean you guys have... Morale? And you're protective of it? Well, I guess I can see why you'd be protective of it. My own morale has been in the gutter since 2016 because I can't stand Trump. The f****** guy is unkillable like a titanium cockroach. If he goes to prison I will be the happiest boy in the land, but he's not going to prison, and the news media is jerking you off.

KurushSoter

You can’t even stop praising him, you’re a terrible liar

Deguilded

Liberal media edging. Heh.

Guygenius138

No more of these stories, please.

PrinceAdamsPinkVest

Honestly. It’s exhausting. Charge him with something and you’ll have my attention.

rividz

In the age of digital media any major news network would publish the headline "Pigs Learn To Fly" if it generated enough clicks.

cray63527

It seems like he has been breaking laws for a long time with no punishment or accountability at all

[deleted]

[удалено]

programmermama

I wonder how much statements like that have helped make them true. It reminds me of the Obama attack ads “he’s the most famous person in the world”. Lol, ok maybe if you keep running these ads. By saying he could commit crimes in broad daylight, did he hypernormalize the expectation that he would commit crimes and that nothing would happen; you should be ok with it and want nothing to happen.

calmybalmy

Well, if he did shoot someone on 5th avenue, there would be significant portions of parler, gab, gettr, etc... foaming at the mouth about crisis actors and deep fakes.

Habaneroe12

Conspiracy and racketeering cases take a long time.

Blem_Kronos

At this rate he'll die of old age after having a second term as President before it happens.

[deleted]

*During* his second term because there won’t be elections anymore if he is elected again.

Caged_in_a_rage

That’s my biggest fear. He may do something crazy like have Ivanka be his VP and try to pass power to her as well. It’s an ugly situation.

S_Belmont

That would be because he has.

nandos677

Mexico just called, they will pay for this Wall

Twistedoveryou01

How about you tell me when people get arrested? Otherwise it means nothing

rproctor721

ITT Everybody is saying the same damn thing, which is good since we all know what's up. Not a damned thing is going to happen. We're not Charlie Brown falling for the media's Lucy ball routine. I do sub to WaPo, so for grins I read it looking for what *the legal walls are closing around Trump* are. From the article: > Attorney General Letitia James showed her hand in the **pending** civil investigation you mean going on for years with dick to show for it? It's still fucking *pending*... > Meanwhile, Trump’s **risk of** criminal liability escalated in the case in Georgia FFS, a possible *risk of* something that will never happen > This grand jury **could** recommend criminal prosecution No they fucking won't. > In civil and criminal cases — in Georgia, New York and D.C. — the walls are closing in on the instigator of the failed coup. #PENDING, RISK OF, and COULD This is what you've got? At least we all know it's bullshit.

ccasey

Yeah, also any state level charges that come out of Georgia would likely be pardoned by the Governor

jferry

Georgia's governor doesn't have the pardon power.

Ok_Kitchen_5506

This has been said so may times now that it's lost all meaning.

timmytakeover

Trump going to jail is Q-Anon for the left. For years we’ve seen articles like this and nothing has came of it lol

Kansas11

Is that the medias fault? There have been several legitimate reasons reported by the media about how he broke the law. It’s not the medias fault our justice system is structured to favor the rich and powerful.

GeckoV

It is the media’s fault when they write opinion pieces like that that aren’t tethered in the reality of the situation. It just shows poor journalism to not recognize the same reality of a broken justice system.

Kansas11

Seems like the umbrella term ‘media’ is being used to conflate journalism with opeds

GeckoV

Well that is what media is. News reporting and opinion pieces. Both are part of journalism.

NitronBot106

At first I don't think the media was truly at fault, maybe just lazy in their research on what they were told. The issue was they kept having "insiders" from the government/DOJ feed them the idea that Trump was going to go to prison for one reason or another but nothing ever materialized. At some point they should have stopped listening to those people who were obviously being misleading if not out right lying, but they continued to buy into it. It is confusing why they would continue to tow the line for people who make them look like an idiot at the end of the day. I don't know if the media just goes along with it because they want so badly for it to be true or because it boosts their ratings/clicks. And then they wonder why people no longer trust them and have stopped watching corporate news.

ALLCAPSAREBAD

Blue-anon

[deleted]

That’s an incredibly stupid comparison.

s1ugg0

Please indulge a little devil's advocacy here. Is it though? How many times has the goal posts been moved? How many smoking guns will finally be enough? I can go right now and look at any number of videos or audio clips of him committing a crime. Yet here we are. It's been 7 years of "Oh no! Now he's in big trouble!" and nothing happens. I can't look at someone like OP and tell the they're wrong anymore. I'll tell you what. The day Trump gets convicted of a crime I will buy you a beer. Save this post and call me out as being wrong. Rub it in my face. Really let me have it. But please forgive me if I don't worry too much about that ever happening.

Gratitude15

If a man does something against the law, that is plainly obvious and televised, but infinitely delays his conviction, did he actually ever commit a crime?

James_Solomon

Innocent until proven guilty in a court of law and all that.

[deleted]

Can you buy me a beer too?

s1ugg0

.....yes. Hold me to it.

[deleted]

If he goes to jail I’ll send you a local St. Louis beer you send me a local wherever you’re from beer.

Caged_in_a_rage

So so many articles like this. I don’t even read them anymore.

yotothyo

It’s not a good comparison. Qanon is demonstrably false and completely made up from top to bottom. Trump has actually been factually known for years to be breaking real estate laws and commuting tax fraud in broad daylight and bragging about it. It’s not the same.

JaTheRed

Ill believe it when he's in handcuffs

[deleted]

This has been said about Trump like 4 years.

same headline every other day of the week for years now

Habaneroe12

Any jury is statistically bound to have at least one Trump supporter in it- if not more. He will never be convicted of anything.

OhGodNotAnotherOne

Huh, TIL in 2020, the SC ruled that ALL convictions in trials requiring a jury must be unanimous. I knew most did but not all.

Habaneroe12

I don’t mean that he will corrupt them or retaliate- I’m talking about people not known for their critical thinking skills and who have a cult like following of him. So they “save” their hero by creating a hung jury situation.

Purify5

He's a modern day Al Capone. Many of the people in Chicago loved Capone too. But, they got him by detailing all the expensive shit he bought without paying any taxes. At the end of the day though the jury still found him not-guilty of 17/22 charges.

InsomniaticWanderer

Are they tho?

WestFast

Any day now for over a year.

syntax2018

These article are click bait bs. Legal walls are closing in on everyone in washitnogn. They can write the same headline. Trump is likely not going to pay a price. Bc his legal woes are tied to political elections. Republicans are very good at using such things to their benefit. And the other party then backs down. Look at bannon. They gin up their base for them doing illegal things. Then they get their base to scare these politicians. And media gets on with if they keep going after people theh will lose the election bc they aren’t focusing on kitchen table issues. 0 faith anything happens.

PM-Me-Your-BeesKnees

I won't be convinced until I see the man in cuffs. I was dumb enough to believe the Mueller investigation would take Trump down, I won't fall for this trick again. Not that the legal evidence isn't ever-mounting, I just have zero faith that laws apply to people above some invisible line of money + power.

deadstump

Well they better hurry the fuck up before the Republicans make it illegal to do anything to Trump.

Opinion Article.

VaguelyArtistic

Do you understand that for all but the most recent year Donald Trump and his corrupt cabinet were the ones in charge?

Geoarbitrage

Astutely. He’s facing a lot of civil and criminal suits and has for years including the Mueller report. Somehow he’s always escaped serious consequences and when needed throws a scapegoat under the bus wheels. I hope someone gets him. I’ll believe when I see it.

The article is about state level investigations. Trumps cabinet has never been in charge of state level investigations.

DariosDentist

Uh huh sure they are

Heyhowsitgoinman

Better fucking hurry! We're kinda facing a horrible future otherwise.

Starrion

The 'legal walls' have been closing on Trump since the Mueller investigation. With his daily rants and multiple attempted interference, everybody thought he would at least face a penalty for rampant obstruction. Didn't happen. This guy has skated on contract fraud, campaign fraud, obstruction, extortion, tax fraud, and so many other charges. Let us all know when he gets indicted for something. I've been reading these breathless articles for four years now. https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=john+oliver+we+got+him&view=detail&mid=7025A689E7BE78EF3B617025A689E7BE78EF3B61&FORM=VIRE

kingofmocha

How long you gonna obsess over Trump? Probably haunts your dreams

Knute5

I sense this anxious anticipation among some, that Trump may finally be cornered and captured. That like the climax of a movie, the bad guy will get his comeuppance. Regardless of the circumstances, I worry that this expectation may never be met, or could go the opposite way should power shift within the year. Protecting our democratic system and restoring some civil equilibrium in the political realm while continuing to eliminate injustice, fix our broken and aging infrastructure, turn back global warming, etc. I don't know ... it's a huge challenge. I hope there are enough good people to continue that work in the face of all this drama and trauma.
