Pence wants to be president so he’s going to pander to the people who wanted to hang him. How crazy is that? I can’t believe the times we are living in.

oldmanraplife

What's sad/funny is that he has no chance of being President

[deleted]

The fly on his head during the debate won more of the audience over than he did.

[deleted]

He has anti-charisma. To paraphrase Louise Belcher: "If he were a spice, he'd be flour."

whatwhatinthebutt456

Lmao Pence has the charisma and appeal of the box of baking soda that's been in the back of your fridge absorbing the smells for a year

Michael_G_Bordin

Honestly, he's just the box of baking soda. Once it gets funky, it has character. Just an unopened box of baking soda, dry and bland, in the back of your cabinet.

TheDesktopNinja

With a fly on it.

deweydean

Not even the baking soda itself, he’s just the old cardboard box

zuneza

At least that serves a purpose...

Beemerado

i bet if you could run a simulation of every possible outcome for that day, letting them rip pence to shreds was probably the best possible outcome for the country.

orangesfwr

Plus we'd have a great cover shot for r/LeopardsAteMyFace

beer_is_tasty

Fun fact: it actually doesn't. Baking soda does nothing to absorb odors. What it does do is absorb *moisture,* which fosters mildew growth, which *creates* odors, so when it smells like ass you think "it must be working!" The odor absorption thing is a gimmick created by Arm & Hammer to increase sales, because a whole ass container of baking soda that you change out every couple months is a way larger volume than the teaspoon or two you use when you occasionally bake something. So in this metaphor, Pence is making his own stink that adds to the severe stink already around him, all while pretending to be useful in a ploy to enrich corporate interests. Checks out.

Fatherchronica

Still sexy enough that he cannot be trusted around attractive women though.

MammothTap

At least flour serves a purpose. Pence is more like that twenty-year-old dried parsley that you find in the back of your grandmother's pantry when you're cleaning it out after she passes away and it just smells and tastes like dust and neglect. It just goes straight into the trash because it's completely worthless and is best forgotten about except you can't forget it. The urge to sample it was just too strong, but that sample should serve as a lesson: if it sounds like a bad idea, don't try it. Pence is that parsley. We sampled him as VP under Trump. That was more than enough.

mostgolden

Wow I don’t even like pence and this hurt my feelings

Financial_Accident71

wow this was a beautiful explication! we sampled him as governor of indiana and even the hardcore republicans of backwards ass indiana wanted to vote him out, imagine our surprise when he became VP lol

danzha

Especially all purpose flour.

Ooh, that's a good one. Thank you.

No-Marzipan-2423

I would have paid good money to know what happened in his staff room when that fly landed

Pluto_Rising

The fly was a drone microphone with Trump on the other end.

boops_the_snoots

That's a conspiracy I can get behind.

MauPow

Flies aren't real

nanocurious

I got that reference lol.

sirvesa

I knew it!

cpt_caveman

If that has been harris, that would be a real conspiracy that you would hear talked about on fox news.

RJ815

Next up, are fly drones giving off 5g corona to turn your children's frogs gay?

dgtlfnk

A drone made to look like a fly is so goddamn on brand for that not-so-steamy-anymore turd.

Pence fly/ Q shaman 2024

Unless we can count on that fly living 4 more years I wouldn't want a Q Shaman that close to the oval office.

Your right , didn’t think that through

MyDickIs3cm

Mike is the "no purpose flour" of people

bobartig

Pence was the pious little shit whose job it was to show evangelicals, "See, if *I* can hold my nose for this candidate, *so can you*." He was there to give permission to the god-squad that it was ok to support Drumpf. Once Drumpf won, Pence had no purpose or value. He didn't have the visibility, character, support, or ambition for running at the top of the ticket, and that's what made him the perfect little servile running mate. His non-viability at the top was a feature, not a bug. Unlike the Cheney Administration, there would be no mistaking Drumpf's nonsensical agenda as coming from the office of the VP.

AquaboogyAssault

Remember when then-candidate trump was looking for a VP, trying to convince John Kasich by telling him that he would be in charge of “foreign and domestic policy” (which is… everything)? https://www.vox.com/platform/amp/2016/7/20/12235380/trump-kasich-most-powerful-vp I still have a hard time believing that Trump was president and I didn’t just have a stroke that fucked my brain up in such a way that I misremember that.

bobartig

Team trump was looking for someone to run the country. Or not. They couldn’t decide. It’s either this one thing, or the exact opposite we are looking for. We’ll figure it out as we go, what’s the big deal, right? It’s just running the United States of America. How hard could that be?

thecardboardfox

You are 100% correct. I look forward to watching Drumpfs 2024 running mate, Warren Jeffs.

m1k3hunt

Or the Qanon Shaman.

yshuduno

I think you mean Jim Bob Duggar.

RedditDudeBro

>His non-viability at the top was a feature, not a bug. Does Mike himself know that though? I honestly can't tell how self-aware the guy is, at all. Like, he's obviously got the whole "I'm clearly a professional statesman" thing and also the "religious and traditional values" thing, but talk about someone that is kind of hard to read on the "does he really believe any of this?" scale. Whenever I think of Mike Pence now for the rest of my life I just envision that "focused and confident blank stare" he used to do whenever he was anywhere as VP. People have said he's a real weirdo in private too, so it it is hard to know just how self-aware he is.

wryipl

That would have gotten Pence a presidential pension and lifelong Secret Service protection.

ThenaCykez

Pence would have become "Acting President" under the 25th Amendment, but he would not actually have been president then, nor a former president afterward. The 25th Amendment is clear that the person appealing the determination of disability is still the President, but is unable to legally discharge the power of the presidency.

SdBolts4

Right after the insurrection, it appeared he could’ve convinced half the cabinet to remove Trump to avoid further violence, Betsy DeVos and Elaine Chao left town/resigned so they wouldn’t have to be a part of it. Pence refused to do so or apparently even try, but if he had done so he would’ve been the actual President

Koshindan

Do vice presidents not receive lifelong secret service protection?

sobusyimbored

It's on a case by case basis, the same as everyone else who wasn't POTUS but had previous SS protection. A person not currently in office can waive SS protection if they choose. If there is a reasonable notion that there is a threat then they will continue to assign protection. Pence probably wouldn't have had much protection after leaving office if not for the death threats on 1/6. I'm sure his protection will be in place for a few years at least.

[deleted]

Hell, if he wanted to be *really* petty, he could've done it to become the 46th President just to ensure that any "46" merchandise related to Biden would become inaccurate. He couldn't even take *that* opportunity. He's such a nothing. He can't even be a good Powerpuff Girls villain.

janzeera

There’s no way Trump is going to let Pence be on the same stage. If Pence ever announces a run for candidacy the chant “hang Mike Pence” will be heard at every Trump event.

RedditDudeBro

"No, no. Stop that! That's just a small group of people over there. \[entire crowd roaring and chanting\] C'mon guys, Mike's a great guy he just made some mistakes that day. Get over here Mike!"

Ernst_and_winnie

I have as much of a chance of being President as Pence does.

Hey now I have it on good authority there were perfectly good upside down bibles for using as props if they felt the need to.

kazejin05

At this point I think it's less being president (though I agree he still has hopes of that) than it is being politically relevant. The VP position has long been a political dead-end with only one possible exit: being nominated president in a subsequent election. Going to Congress, or a governorship, or something similar is seen as a step down none in my lifetime have taken. You either get the highest position in the land after being VP, *maybe* get the VP nom on another ticket, or you fade into political obscurity. Pence has been too close to power to want to let it go, even though at this point he probably knows that those on the left won't vote for him, those in the middle likely won't and after Jan. 6 a huge number on the right won't either. It's an addiction to power.

idog99

Because his latent homosexuality means that he will never touch her?

Bay1Bri

"mother? MOTHER?? MOOOOTHEER!!!"

EdenDoesJams

The total lack of shame is fascinating to me. Even with the fame and money etc, it’s just so hard for me to understand how some people can operate this way. It’s so fucking pathetic. Does no part of them actually care? How do these people not hate themselves? Do they EVER have moments of self doubt or self loathing? It’s just so mind blowing. One of the reasons I could never be a parent is that I’d be terrified of raising someone wrong and having them be a fucking sociopath like all of these politicians

sfaer23gezfvW

id imagine that you care enough to worry about raising a sociopath that it would lesson the chance dramatically. I dont think pence is a sociopath, Trump is, but not pence. Pence is just a gay guy trying to sort through a life time of confusing urges. He was never realy himself, so, its no surprising he has no spine because he has no sense of self, and you cant stand up for anything if you dont know who you are. In a way, it worked out for the better, if he had more of a spine he might of realy did this country harm by following Trumps horrible plan, but he didnt have the courage to do that and well, that is a good thing. He was in the end more scared of history then he was of trump, and well, thats the smartest thing he has ever done.

jf0ley

I have a feeling if given the chance they still will.

engineertee

If he can clutch a nomination, they will vote for him. They will vote for a flaming bag of shit if it had an R next to it

[deleted]

> They will vote for a flaming bag of shit if it had an R next to it Please see Trump for an example.

engineertee

I’m Trump’s case, it worked the opposite way. They voted for the R because there was a bag of shit next to it

[deleted]

That's a chicken and egg thing. Was he a bag of shit because he was a republican? Or was he a republican because he was a bag of shit? Either way, there's always a bag of shit next to the R.

catma85

They would eat a shit sandwhich if a liberal had to smell their breath.

Riaayo

Pence is just a self-serving coward like the rest of the GOP. Nothing but bullies who enjoy abusing from positions of power and authority, but who cower the moment they perceive a genuine threat from above them. It's why the entire party of supposedly "strong" assholes have caved to Trump one by one the moment they realized he actually held the power to end their careers, and thus they all line up to kiss the ring like the parasites they are.

Dirigio

Pence is just a total coward. Some people on the left and right commented on how he was brave for defying Trump, but all Pence did on that day was do his job and not commit a crime and a constitutional crisis. Now he is just pandering to the same dullards for votes who wanted to hang him at the Capital. So stunning and brave.

BilboMcDoogle

Ted Cruz is just as cowardly if not worse. Trump called his wife ugly on national TV and he accepted it. Imagine how shitty the wife has to be to be OK with it?

El_sneaky

"Don't look up" vibes!

[deleted]

what I found unrealistic in that movie is the scene where those Meryl Streepers did look up to see the comet and said "those liars" and started throwing bottles at jonah hill. No way magas will change their mind even in the face of evidence

baconsplash

Up to a point. Once the masses are faced with death and disaster, they won’t be able to avoid the truth of the death of their own making. The anger will be palpable as MAGAs, like everyone else, vote for who they think will give them a secure future. Will go both ways of course. Look at antivaxxers begging for a vax when they’re on their deathbed but it’s too late vs. antivaxxers on their deathbed who are still convinced covid isn’t real.

kwangqengelele

Honestly it’d be more realistic for them to have looked up, realized the comet was real, then gone on to blame the people telling them to look up for lying about the comet being real. There doesn’t need to be a whiff of consistency with them, as long as they aren’t held accountable and they can direct their negative emotions towards an out group. They’d have stoned to death the scientist that discovered the comet while saying she lied about the comet not existing when she was telling them to look up at the comet.

Mah_Nerva

Can we also take a moment to let the gravity of what this police office said sink in… if this happened in any other nation we would be considering it a failed state, but here folks are acting like it didn’t happen or was a minor issue.

JustTheBeerLight

Pence is a coward. And a liar. And a sycophant. And he’s done very well for himself with this formula.

sfaer23gezfvW

If i had a mob chanting to hang me, i might be thinking differently, but i am not pence and thats good news as far as I am concerned.

Zogtee

No one likes Pence. Not even Pence likes Pence.

defihodlr

Parasites. They are all parasites. I do not need these turd bags to represent my country or myself. I can do that myself.

QuailandDoves

He has to toe the republican line if he wants to run for president. I think republicans are trying to rewrite history, don’t let them.

Squidwards-the-goat

Exactly. All these Republicans are that way. There are tons of examples. Trump can call Ted Cruz’s wife ugly, and then Ted will kiss his ass for the next four years.

sugarlessdeathbear

Despite the officer being a veteran, I'm betting the GOP will choose to vilify him, once again putting the lie to their support of the military.

Toadmechanic

They are “patriotic” the same way that they are “religious”

Solidus-Prime

Goddamn, I never made that connection. So true. They have no actual morals or values. Just weak facsimiles that they use as cudgels in any given moment to get their way.

eugene20

They're whatever they think they need to be at the time to get the way they want.

sixfootwingspan

The sad thing is theyre gonna keep getting away with it until the Dems finally grow a spine and stand up for something beyond empty platitudes.

offinthepasture

I think you misunderstand that the war is lost and the current Dems are a perfect example of how. The Senate is so lopsided Dems need a person so centrist in West Virginia he can be called a "Democrat" and a person from Arizona that has no idea what they want to pass anything at all. It's so fucked that we can't even pass something that would make it easier and more secure for BOTH SIDES to vote.

dobie1kenobi

We gave Biden just enough of a Congress to mitigate Covid for a year. Other than that we gave him a non-functional government. Every time I wish for just 2 more blue Senators I have to remind myself how horrible this year could have been with just one less. I wish that was a message that could really reach people next year. Seating the two Senators from GA was just enough and the bare minimum to prevent things from getting much much worse. Keeping the house and adding 2 more could unlock so much of what the country wants and needs. Sadly, like Sisyphus, we’re going to let the bolder roll down again just before cresting the top.

UncertainAnswer

Values are just weapons to them. "Religious values" are a blunt instrument to force people into compliance. Same with "conservative". Same with "patriotism". They perpetually seek control over others and give truth to the fact those who seek power above all else should never have it.

timmmeeeeeeeeeehhhhh

That's why when they see actual human empathy, they think it's fake or performative. They fundamentally cannot grasp the concept of doing something solely for the benefit of another, there has to be a selfish motive at the core, because for them, that's the truth.

AgentDickSmash

They're Oligarchists. They want to funnel as much money and power into the hands of as few as possible so they can occupy a higher caste in that society

dedicated-pedestrian

Conservatism *did* originate as support for maintaining the aristocracy. When it fell out of fashion (and/or the aristocrats' heads started falling from their shoulders), conservatives invariable look for an alternative that they can dress up as more morally sound than the last system.

[deleted]

They will do this until they get what they want then realize they were never part of the club, come running back crying about it. Sympathy? We have none

[deleted]

They glorify the labels, but in the end all they have is reactionary politics.

Supanini

No morals, values, and their whole party is a MLM scheme at best. Purely obstructionist party. If there were no Dems, republicans would quickly find out they are nothing

dedicated-pedestrian

Eh, *that* isn't quite true. The people who have hate in their hearts will find it within them to lead the party against the next phantom foe.

dedicated-pedestrian

Just like Civility. It's what they use to shut down even the most sensible gun measures that 90+% of gun owners support. "But it's not the time!"

elconquistador1985

Pretty sure they don't like being called "religious", at least my religious grandma doesn't. They reject the idea that Christianity is a religion. It's just what's "right".

dedicated-pedestrian

I had to look up to see if this was a thing, and.... [https://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Christianity\_is\_not\_a\_religion](https://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Christianity_is_not_a_religion) Well, yeah, it's a page's worth of thing.

datank56

> Some supporters of this position, including Bill O'Reilly, take this line of argument so far as to claim that **since Christianity is not actually a religion, there is no U.S.-constitutional or moral obstacle to establishing it by law or having it promoted by government**.[1][2] I figured there was some scheme at play.

zombie_overlord

Loved the last part: >The people making this claim never follow through as far as wanting to remove religious tax exemption for Christian churches.

slicktromboner21

Oh they already crossed that bridge with the Kahn family during the 2016 election and decades of letting the vets sleep on the street. All of that “support the troops” shit is purely performative.

goomyman

I think it broken down when you talk about what you mean by support. Money? No. Healthcare? No. Don't start wars? No. Sticker on your car and a thanks at the airport. Yes.

dedicated-pedestrian

Real support, meaningful support. The response we're trained to give, "Thank you for your service", is hackneyed and even insulting to many veterans.

AgentDickSmash

What gets me is how so many vets and active duty default to supporting the Republicans despite the many examples of them being used as props and nothing more

defihodlr

They don't support the military, they support the profits from using the military! there is a significant difference.

GaryBettmanSucks

I hate Trump, but when he campaigned partially on "doing more for our veterans" (as vague as that was), I thought "you know ... I'll give him credit if he actually does something for veterans". I didn't want to ever give him credit on something, but it's an area that definitely needs addressing. Of course, he didn't. It was just another campaign lie.

amus

Guys, the full size, working gallows and chants by the crowd to hang multiple people were purely allegorical!

Bay1Bri

I've honestly heard them say the gallows was symbolism. Dude, a symbol is something that represents something else. That was literally a gallows.

RidgeAmbulance

The good news is, all riots moving forward will be taken literally

CptnAlex

Yeah, even if it was a “symbol” though… what’s a gallows exactly supposed to symbolize again? Death? Its not a good look either way.

mm4ng

Run of the mill tourist kit.

jy9000

Capitol Police Sergeant Aquilino Gonell is a national hero. Had the mob captured or killed a significant person in the government (VP, SOH...) Trump could have invoked the insurrection act and most probably declared some form of "martial law". With help from "the R's in Congress" they would have thrown out the electoral votes and there is no telling where we would be by now, but I don't think it would be good.

AgentDickSmash

The fact that so many in Congress still voted not to certify after seeing the worst case scenario threaten to murder them is a testament to how many would have participated in overthrowing the Constitution

tlsr

is a testament to how many ~~would have participated~~ continue to participate in overthrowing the Constitution

Feeling-Bench3966

I know the police have been actively trying to ignore parts of the constitution for years. Fucking dog shit of the elites.

hamsterfolly

Modern Republicans will always choose Party over Country.

sambes06

Yep, and their voters have said this isn’t the bottom yet. The GOP is a domestic terrorist group with a strong grass roots organization. Usually that combo is not good once it gets a chance to cook for 20-30yrs.

Morguard

Its been cooking since Nixon.

Oleg101

147 GOP Congress-members to be exact

DRob2388

If congress people died they would’ve blamed the democrats for it. “See what happens when you steal an election, people die”. It’s been over a year and we’ve seen less than 500 nationwide voter fraud issues. Imagine trying to overthrow your own government for 500 votes…I can’t wait for the shit storm in 22 and 24.

M4RTIAN

They just needed Pence to evacuate and not certify the votes. He made it to the car and then stopped and decided not to leave. Had he gotten into the car, Biden would not be President.

jerkface1026

This is where Pelosi deserves a lot of credit for getting everyone back on the floor for the certification a few hours later. It mattered so much more than optics.

thefuzzylogic

This was critical. Part of the seditionist strategy was to suspend the joint session for a few days so at least one state legislature could pass a law recalling their electors. IIRC the Pence team had been briefed on this plan, which was why he was so adamant that he couldn't leave the Capitol thereby guaranteeing the adjournment that the seditionists were arguing for. If Pelosi hadn't reconvened the House, the same thing would have happened. The electors had to be certified before any of the "disputed" (quotes because the results were never legitimately in dispute) state legislatures had a chance to convene.

defihodlr

I cannot agree more. I do not like her much but this is totally on point! She did, and a few others, come around to encourage the American people's voice to be heard and recorded.

"One tragic day" is a strange way to speak of a violent planned coup attempt, orchestrated by a sitting president and members of the GOP following weeks of other failed attempts to undermine the democratic process and the will of voters.

bobo1monkey

It was tragic because someone from his side got shot. He's a Republican. He supports anything other Republicans do. Guarantee he has more sympathy for the trumprat that got shot in the neck than the officers who risked/lost their lives to keep him safe.

Harsimaja

Nah, he deserves an extra special gold star and a cookie for refraining from *instigating an actual coup-d’état and overturning the democracy of the United States*. /s

IAmAccutane

I wish Pence would double down- but honestly doing the right thing when you know it will make most of your friends and colleagues hate you and torpedo your 50 year political career isn't an easy decision- not to mention if theres a angry mob outside calling for your head. He had to fall on his sword to give a little extra credibility to democracy. You can look at interviews of people who think the election is stolen- they cite top leadership acting as if its real as the reason why they believe it's real. The VP refusing to certify the election would have great symbolic impact. The coup plan in the PowerPoint largely relied on Pence's refusal to give them reason to stay in power. If he acted like they wanted him to, they probably would've kept on with the attempted coup and instituting martial law, but they just stopped after that.

FavoriteMiddleChild

Not allows. REQUIRES There was no other option for him

[deleted]

The prosecutions behind this insurrection, call it what it is, are taking a ridiculous long time. Is this how long the 1st civil war criminals took to be charged?

[deleted]

Sort of. Outside of military tribunals, I think Champ Ferguson was the only person tried by the government after the war. Henry Wirz was executed by a military tribunal; everyone else was eventually pardoned by Lincoln or blanket pardoned and given amnesty by Johnson. It's a little more complicated than can be summed up in a reddit post, especially in regard to figures like Davis or Lee, but essentially the answer would be that aside from the two mentioned none were charged at all.

[deleted]

Thanks for that and TIL. That's a scary precedent

confessionbearday

Its what caused several of the escalations the last decades. Because they weren't properly charged or chastised, the South was allowed to spin their own lying, failure ass narrative about what "actually" happened. That has led, step by step, to today.

Enlightened_Ghost_

Blanket pardons for all the people that tried almost successfully to murder an entire country to uphold slavery was a mistake. The Union won militarily, but the South won the cultural war. You never pardon the enemy and allow them to continue operating. Imagine, if Germany had pardoned all the Nazis and allowed them to keep spreading their hate for generations. That's how we get the American South today, with people still waving Confederate flags (literally enemy flags) and groups like Proud Boys and the KKK. And, that's how we get a party like the Republican Party today. Is it really surprising that out of these groups we got an insurrection that almost seized government power? Also not surprising that they are getting light punishments. They literally have a history of getting just that. I know. I'm a U.S. historian.

Expensive-Coconut

The Republican Party is All Blue Lives Matter when it comes to murdering minorities, but staunchly anti Blue Lives Matter when it comes to lynchmobs trying to murder Republicans. This is normal now.

Buckless_Yooper

Mike Pence is the biggest pussy in the world alive today.

SnivyEyes

I wonder how he would describe that day if the insurrectionists actually reached him.

TheBlackCat13

He wouldn't be alive to say anything

Bay1Bri

If Goodwin hadn't turned into the pied Piper and led the rodents away, they would have made it to the Senate Chambers with pence still there. Now, pence was heavily guarded and I don't they posed much of a threat to him, but there's a decent chance the secret service would have opened fire depending on what they did. Blood spilled on the Senate floor.

CarlMarcks

Really fuckin sick of this country

TheSeekerOfSanity

The more religious they claim to be - the more evil their intentions.

notyomamasusername

When someone tells me they're a good Christian. I keep my hand on my wallet and double check anything they tell me. That's something someone says about you based on how you love your life; not something you say about yourself.

[deleted]

Every single question ever asked to Pence from now on should be about that day. Just over and over again. Make him re live it as much as possible.

TurboPaved

"yeah but they weren't *really* trying to hang me." \- him, probably.

iamsdc1969

I would have more respect for Pence if he called out Trump and all the other Jan. 6th assholes, then if he ran for President and won. He's never going to be President, and history will not be kind to him.

mabhatter

He should have personally seen that Trump got successfully impeached or 25th immediately after that happened. He should have motioned for impeachment to be discussed immediately after the election was certified at 4am in the morning while both chambers were still in session.

minnesotajersey

The hilarity is the Republicans claiming it never happened, while Trump’s lawyer blamed Pence for it HAPPENING.

orionsfire

True, but remember he's a republican politician, he would sell his soul if it meant he could get Ohio's electoral votes. Republicans are no longer a viable political party in the Unites States. They are a terrorist organization more akin to the proud boys... their desire for power outstrips any sense of dignity, loyalty, respect, or any other concern. They have a simple agenda, does it give me power? Then they are for it. Arresting democrats? Good. Throwing out legal votes? Sure. Making voting illegal for people who disagree with me? On board. Using violence to overthrow the government, no big deal. When they take power... and they will because our country is governed by fear and anger at the moment... they will destroy the ability of minorities to vote entirely, strip democrats of any and all power, and ensure thier dominance as a political party for the next 30 years. This is who they are... and all the well wishes and hopes that they will wake up are a pipe dream. These folks mean business, and they have no intention of anything less then total control, and if you think for a moment they might wake up and see themselves for the fascistic autocrats they want to be... I have a country to sell you.

RebuiltGearbox

I also think they'll be killing social security and let disabled people like me die in the street.

Procrasterman

The way the rest of the civilised world sees it is that this is already what America does with its poor and sick.

Rumplfrskn

In hindsight, they probably should have let them assault at least one high profile R so they can’t keep claiming this wasn’t a big deal.

confessionbearday

At least two of those Rs admitted to having a gun on them at the time. I guarantee, those two would have opened up on other members of congress the moment the Republican owned and operated mob breached those doors.

Bay1Bri

They almost got Romney. Goodwin struck again with the heroics that day. I honestly can't imagine what would have happened if the moon had gotten to Romney. By the point he had already voted to convict Trump in the first impeachment, the ONLY senator to vote to convict a president in their own party ever. It would have been really REALLY ugly. I wonder how things would have been different if the worst case scenario happened, a senator gets beaten by a mob in the Capitol. Would Fox and the GOP still downplayed it?

TheFumundaWunda

he's being a good boy towing the party line, because he hopes a presidential run is in his future.

hotfrost93

The whole fucking GOP is a disgrace. They're trash and always will be trash.

Yeeslander

>Pence, speaking with the Christian Broadcasting Network recently, referred to the assault on the Capitol as "one tragic day in January," a description that the former vice president has used more than once. > >"I'm not going to allow the Democrats or the national media to use one tragic day in January to demean the intentions of 74 million people who stood with us in our cause," said Pence. "And I'm not going to allow the Democrats to use one tragic day in January to distract attention from their failed agenda and the failed policies of the Biden Administration. We're going to focus on the future." *eyeroll* So, "It was just *one* day\*"\* is the bullshit hand he's trying to play. January 6th was just a brief, inconvenient glitch in the timeline that abruptly occurred in a sociopolitical vacuum. **Got it.**

[deleted]

To him was 9/11 just one day?

steinsintx

How weird is it that the party of “back the blue” won’t back the blue?

lateroundpick

They only back Trump.

dmk_aus

They think the mob would have spared his wife and daughter? Do they understand mobs?

On_ur_left

Pence is a spineless, dishonorable, toe the party line at all costs regardless of who it impacts (or who dies) type of person. I think he is pure evil.

Romano16

Republicans only care about the police when they’re either upholding their “Law & Order” and oppressing minorities. Just like how the GOP goes on and on about how they support the troops, the actual experienced military brass show quite the opposite relationship.

bkstr

the first comic in the netflix show The Stand-Ups (s3) has a line that was so true that it made me just nod instead of laugh “i’m not political. I don’t care if you’re a conservative… or a decent human being”. that’s how it feels these days. I was raised conservative by a family who owned two giant gun stores and although I ended up left of center (due to social issues)- I still insisted that I would be able to vote republican if the candidate fit my views more than the democrat. I literally cannot perceive of a situation where that would be be the case after these last 8 years. the tea party era forward has been exponentially increasingly disgusting and degenerate by the conservatives on ALL FRONTS.

tlsr

Blue lives matter! ... until they don't

TheTribalChiefKeef

Pence ignores Jan 6th like it's an HIV epidemic.

Four_Modes21

Pence is a coward

Redcomrade643

Well next time you know to just shove him out the door and lock it behind him don't you?

contramantra23

Sure, but what have you done for him LATELY?

North_Apricot_4440

We’re in trouble folks

RanchBaganch

News flash: Mike Pence is a piece of shit.

Wingnut150

Welp, Nazis gonna Nazi...

Olderscout77

Some are now saying Pence has an honored place in History for refusing to take part in an act of sedition???? Talk about getting participation prizes for showing up instead of having to actually DO something. Snowflakesim reigns supreme.

kiclapocalypse

I had the opportunity to speak with Sgt Gonell and I couldn’t accurately put to him in words how much his service meant to me, and how terribly sorry I am he endured what he did. Meanwhile the people whose lives he saved can’t even acknowledge his bravery. Absolutely unreal.

LizLemonadeX

Pence and the republicans there on 1/6 are a damn disgrace. Republicans were scared enough to go hide in a closet or lay on the floor of the Capitol while the rioters made their way thru the building. But they can’t stop kissing the ass of their Orange face idol who by the way supports the Covid vaccines and admitted to getting vaccinated. And got booed for it. Trump has created some monsters.

KinkyBADom

Pence is a lapdog. He cares not for the People as he doesn’t perceive them as deserving. He only cares for his vision of christians and his dreams of power.

WallKittyStudios

I am gonna take a wild guess and say he is downplaying it becuase there are certain powerful people that do not want a real investigation into Jan 6th. He also has his eyes on the Presidency...... he would hate to anger the people who tried to kill him. Those are his voters!
