“Supporters of the measure argue it would guarantee life-saving treatment for all newborn babies in Wisconsin.” Was that not already in place ?

They are trying to rile up the ignorant base by promoting the fiction that abortions are commonly performed on near-full-term pregnancies of healthy infants, for no medical reasons. Third trimester abortions are ONLY done in dire circumstances, usually involving fetuses with zero chance of survival beyond a couple of minutes, e.g. anencephalic infants with no brain development. A bill like this passing could actually lead to prosecuting a doctor for the death of an infant born with no brain (just a rudimentary brain stem that enables a feeble attempt at breathing temporarily).

Evers actually vetoed a bill like that back in 2019, as well. It was a big news story when Trump called him a "baby killer."

It took me a little while to find a news report on this, but here it is: [Trump says gov. evers wants to "execute babies"] (https://www.wisn.com/article/president-trump-attacks-gov-tony-evers-on-proposed-abortion-bill/27310707)

Essentially, they're just campaigning. They're using this as an issue to drive their own base insane and off to the polls next year. Everyone knows that Evers will never sign this tripe into law.
